HOWTO Transfer a Domain Name

This is a step by step procedures to transfer your domain name to/from NeedName.com. The procedure will guide you from initiation of domain transfer request to completion. The procedure is also applicable from other domain name registrars.

Before you start the domain name transfer request. You need to complete the following requirements.

Unlock the domain name through the management console. If the domain name is locked, your domain transfer request will be denied.
Retrieve the EPP Key (or Authentication Code as other registrar prefer to call it). You will need this information when you initiate the domain name transfer request.
Domain Name administrator email address. NOTE: Do not change the administrator email address when you're transferring the domain name, if you changed the administrator email address you have to wait for 60 days before you can transfer the domain name. This is a registry system security implemented to provide additional protection from un-authorized domain transfer. To check your domain name administrator email address, check the public WHOIS record.

Domain Name Transfer Procedures:

Login to your domain name management console. For example, login to www.needname.com to manage your domain name using your username and password.
In Domain Manager page, click the domain name you want to manage/transfer. Or use the filter to search the domain name if you have hundreds of domain names under your account.
Click the General Settings icon, here you will see the EPP Key, click the "Send EPP Key to to registrant email". Check the registrant email mailbox for the EPP Key or Authorization info.
Login to the winning registrar to initiate the domain name transfer request. Login to the website management console using your account and password, click the "Transfer a domain", enter the domain name to transfer, and the EPP Key or Authorization Code. Proceed to check-out, the domain transfer fees varies from $10-$25 depending on registrar pricing. NOTE: When the transfer is completed, additional 1 year registration will be added to your domain name expiration date.
The registry will check if the domain name is unlock, and the EPP Key provided is correct. If correct, the registry will send a confirmation to the domain name registrant/administrator email address. So the current domain name owner (registrant/administrator) will wait for the confirmation email that contains a link to approve or deny the request. The current registrant/administrator "will need to approve" the transfer request. Waiting time for this email is between 2-8 hours.
If everything is approve, the waiting time is between 5-7 days to complete the domain transfer.

In July 2011, eNom (NeedName.com main registrar) was notified by VeriSign that it plans to raise the cost for their respective TLDs on January 15, 2012. As with previous VeriSign price increases, eNom must adjust our Reseller Tier pricing such that we can absorb the increased costs for reselling VeriSign’s TLDs.

This is to inform you that the .CN registry is requiring verification on all existing .CN domain names. If they are unable to verify the registrant, they will be deleting these domains. As such, the registrant, for the given domain, will receive the email below on Monday Feb 8th, 2010. This includes instructions that they must follow, in a timely manner, in order to retain their domain name.

All information is required to be accurate and completely filled in.

The registrant name is the contact people’s name, if filling in company name here will be regarded as unqualified.

The registrant and organization names on the application form must be totally consistent to the names on the photocopies of personal ID and business license.

If the registrant and organization names on the photocopies of personal ID and business license a re in other languages, rather than Chinese or English, the names on the form (and other related information) must be totally consistent to the names on the certified translation document.

Please keep the consistence between registrar name in the application form with the name in CNNIC system

Requirements about personal ID:
The name on personal ID should be consistent to name on application form and the name in registration system.

Please provide the photocopy of both sides of personal ID.

How will my customers be affected?

The .ME Registry is about to open domain name registrations on a first-come, first-served basis, and if initial indicators are accurate, the .ME domain names will move quickly. Open Registration officially begins July 17.

The .ME Registry concluded its Land Rush Period June 26. The 20-day time span was the first opportunity for the public to apply for .ME domain names. More than 80 different accredited registrars from 24 countries are offering the catchy domain extension. To date, through Sunrise and Land Rush, the .ME Registry has received more than 30,000 .ME applications.
