Several weeks ago we commissioned directors and assistant directors to lead us in continuing the ministry of Jesus through their respective commissions. The following is a brief summary of how your commissions are serving in the many activities and ministries of Neffsville Mennonite Church.

The Congregational Care Commission, led by Gene & Bette High and Glen Hostetler, continue to coordinate care teams as needed. Glen has been instrumental in organizing the deacon ministry, a process that is gradually taking shape here at church.

Perhaps you are signed up for the “Guess who’s coming for dessert” event on Sunday, February 12th? This event finds itself under the Fellowship Commission’s umbrella. Jeff Witwer, director, is excited about the meals planned for the month of February. You have already enjoyed the subs served by the Junior High this past Wednesday. Next Wednesday, 2/8, the Wednesday Night Out (WNO) team is planning a surprise meal, followed by Jeff Brown’s homemade lasagna on Feb. 15th. The meal is being donated by Jeff so that all monies collected will go to support our children’s ministries. The Partnership class will delight us with spaghetti pie on Feb. 22, and taco

salads by the Agape class round out this month’s culinary treats. Assistant director, Marlene Weaver, provide leadership and oversight to the WNO programs and related activities.

Jon Burkholder, director, and Laura King, assistant director, lead the Nurture commission. They are working on developing a continuing Sunday School elective for adults. Their plan is to offer a variety of topics with different teachers throughou
It was a busy 2011 for the Stewardship commission, directed by Dave Snider and assisted by Dave Strong. They are continuing to work on the survey results from the November 13th elective Sunday School class. Consideration is being given to how they might use various commissions, individuals, and committees to work on each of the top three results, which are 1) creating a master plan, 2) fellowship hall renovations, and 3) the sanctuary sound system. Finalizing the process of approval for fund raising projects by church council, costing, evaluating and giving priority to various capital maintenance and improvement projects, roof replacements, nursery carpet replacement, and the replacement of light dimmer equipment in the sanctuary are all facility demands clamouring for their attention.

t the year. All adults are welcome to join the class for a week, a series, or an entire year. Classes will be held in room 101.

Haiti, Uruguay, and Italy are a few of the countries that have been, or will be, visited by ministry teams from our congregation. The strong desire to take our faith beyond our doors means that many requests are brought to Witness commission director, Bob Unruh, and assistant director, Zach King. A team has just returned from Haiti where they continue the connection with Radio Lumiere, a radio ministry to the Haitian people. Also significant is the planning beginning now for oue Weekend of Service, scheduled for August 17-19. The hope is to have twice as many people as last year involved in an even wider range of community projects.

A planning team under the auspices of the Worship commission meet regularly to plan the worship services. Currently plans for our lenten season are being made. Director Carolyn North and assistant Dave Leaman are also investing time in updating the organizational charts and overseeing the accompanist schedule for the worship services. All behind-the-scenes details that need to be covered so that our services flow seamlessly.

This weekend at NMC we are going to be talking about what it means to be the church. One thing that the church does is it helps each other grow into the image of Christ. But that can be hard if we don’t know how to help each other in healthy, loving ways.

We are going to share together 7 easy ways that we can help each other grow into who God has created each of us to be individually and as the body of Christ.

Join us this Sunday morning at 10:00 AM at Neffsville Mennonite Church. We are the place where tradition and innovation meet!

Want to watch the last few messages in our Series on Community ?

Community doesn’t just happen. It needs to be cultivated just like a garden. When cultivated, community produces wonderful fruit for all to enjoy. Many of you know that joining a church doesn’t always mean that we have instant community. Some people attend a church for years and still feel lonely and disconnected. Paul wrote to the churches and said, “You must learn to be considerate of one another, cultivating a life in common.” (1 Corinthians 1:10, MSG). So community (living life in common with one another) is something that we must learn to do. For community to succeed we must pursue it intentionally.

That is what our next series beginning on January 8, 2012 is all about. It will be all about living in community and how when we do we are “Better Together.”

Please plan on being here each Sunday during the series and bring a friend as well. Let’s become Better Together.
