Being very slow when it comes to economic progress and commonly known as the “poorest municipality” in Negros Occidental, Toboso has surprisingly thought its way to excelling in some business establishments.

Historically, Toboso is a municipality that originated way back during the Spanish regime. It was known before as a barrio of Escalante. The community expanded with the cmming immigrants from the Island of Cebu which extensively taught and help them develop fishing, agriculture and commerce. Being declared as a town separated from Escalante on July 1, 1984, Toboso has been independently seeking ways on improving their means of livelihood.

Nowadays, the municipality of Toboso has entered into a livelihood program which gives the local residents an opportunity to earn money with their little businesses. There had been trainings and seminars which made them aware that through simple things and exposure, they can make a living out of it.

During the Panaad Festival of Negros 2010, the Municipality of Toboso has displayed their native products proudly made out of these livelihood programs. They have successfully mastered the art of weaving native bags. These native bags can really catch up with the latest trends of fashion. They are designed in a way that you won’t be able to tell it is locally made from Toboso. But not only that these native bags are unique in their designs but they are of good quality and are of reasonable prices.

An exciting phenomena is going to happen tonight a lunar eclipse and a meteor shower. According to the PAGASA director Prisco Nilo, a partial lunar eclipse will start to take place at 6:16pm and the peak will be seen at 7:38pm the eclipse is expected to end at 10:21pm. The eclipse can bee seen by South East Asian Countries, including the Philippines; Most of the United States, some islands of the Pacific Ocean and Antartica.

At midnight the sky will light up with for the yearly Bootid meteor shower, the said shower will last till the end days of this month of June. The meteor shower is caused by the debris of the comet 7P/Pons-Winnecke. The peak of the meteor shower can be seen at the night time of June 27, 2010.

However we are experiencing cloudy and cool rainy nights lately which gives us a little chance of seeing this twin phenomena. According to PAGASA, base on the latest satellite images there is a possibility that tonight is gonna be a cloudy night caused by the Southwesterly surface windflow prevailing over Northern Luzon and this weather will be experience for the coming days.

But let’s try our luck tonight hoping to have a cloudless sky for just an hour or so will make the night.

Ever got to taste a locally brewed beer which ends up to be organic? It may not be new in store, but it always made our minds wonder how can an organic beer taste nothing different from a commercialized one?

Bacolod must be proud to have talented minds when it comes to foods and drink products. Aside from the original recipes invented by famous cooks, from main dishes to desserts, they never fail to excite the tongues of the locals and the tourists alike.

Felix “Bugoy” Hagad, had his long-held dreams come to reality after producing the first ever Bacolod’s local organic beer complete with muscovado.

According to lifestyles Bacolod, an online edition of Bacolod City’s lifestyle magazine, Bugoy’s story with beer started way back on the 80s. The idea had originally sparked in Bugoy’s mind during the late 80s when one of his classmates got his hand in making his own beer. That left him thinking of why not doing it himself?

It must be his fate, for after a few years he got acquainted with one of his wife’s classmates who happened to be engaged in the business of brewing beer.

Bugoy perfectly crafted an original organic Bacoleno Beer with the two main ingredients: pure Negros spring water and the Negrense muscovado.

Believing that Negros is an ideal place to brew beer, he was able to perfect the taste by mixing the beer with purely muscovado, which imparts a caramel-toffee flavor to the beer.

Negros has also mountain spring waters which he believes that most brewers all over the world knowingly will give the beer a unique character of its own.

Bogsbrew beer comes in several variants. The like of which is India Pale Ale, Aussie Pale Ale, Czech Pilsener, Canadian Blonde, Mexican Cerveza, Euro Lager and Negros all-grain. They have different recipes and distinct characteristics making each unique in taste but as Bugoy would quote, they are all made with muscovado and refined Negros sugar bathed in Negros spring water.

Cheers to Felix Hagad for brewing a unique blend of an organic beer!!!
