Noelle Tannen, singer and songwriter from Washington Heights, NYC with a soulful orchestral R&B style.

Noelle musical journey started at three years old in church, where she grew up singing. Noelle was always into artists like Stevie Wonder, Temptations and Aretha Franklin. She also had a classical upbringing playing the cello.
At the age 18 Noelle started singing with a hard rock prog Blues band called - The Louisiana Sun Kings. Noelle stated "the political elements come from me just being feed up with the way people treat each other and the earth and what better way to try to break way from the negativity then music."

Noelle stated "For me, music is more about telling stories through the architecture of sound. I always just felt really compelled to do this and I can't explain why."

Noelle's music is unique because she use it as a desperate plead for humanity to wake up and she generally does not use typical song structures.

"I think this album, especially the music video is one of my biggest accomplishments. I took my time with the project and did everything I believe neededd to be done to it to make "Survive" what it should be.
"Survive" is a political Hip Hop R&B Gospel about how every little thing we do can and will effect the world at large. I was inspired to write it when I was traveling in California after an anti police Brutality Rally in Oakland. However, it is about everything, not just police brutality."

Brianna Colette, a soulful and melodic Jazz Pop singer born in Nashville, TN and grew up there as well as in Northern Virgina.

Brianna descibes her music as jazz pop because there are elements of Jazz, Soul, Pop and R&B. She state that her sound really come from her voice not her music. She has recorded music in all genres; dance, jazz and pop. She stated, " I do not want to stay in one category because that wouldn't be staying true to who I am as an Artist."

Brianna had no desire as a child to be a jazz singer. She just knew that she wanted to entertain and perform. Brianna grew up listing to Sade, Barbara Steisand, Billy Holiday and Sarah Vaughn, a mixture of what her mother use to play when she was a kid. Which lead and developed into the voice and vocals that you hear from Brianna today.

Brianna stated, "I think when people look at me and see the big Afro that they immediately think "NeoSoul" but that's not the case. I think people are generally surprised when they see that I'm not just a soul singer. I have a big personality and love to have fun on stage."

Brianna's music is unique by the variety of music that she can do. She said, "there is something for everyone and I try to give my audience that."

Brianna is currently working with new producers on her upcoming EP, she said they are incredible producers and writers and feels she has learned alot from them.

When asked about her accomplishments, Brianna stated, "Being able to perform at Stevie Wonder's tribute for Harlem week with Ray Chew and the band was incredible! We had no sound check and no rehearsal. I was nervous before hand, but the band was incredible!"

Brianna has toured in Russia twice, which is a trip she will never forget. She has also performed in Connecticut, New York, Florida, DC and Belgium.

Brianna's new single "Glorious" was written by one of her producers Josh X. She stated, "when I heard this song , I knew it was for me. It has all the emotion and happiness I want my fans to feel. It really makes you think about what your most glorious moment is, because we all have one."

Brianna's next show will be April 26th at "A Piece of My Heart" for Autism at Five Town College in Queens, NY

Melody Cole-Gates from Dayton, Ohio is an independent artist who paints mostly soulful expressions of people. She descibes her art as soulful, compassionate, bold, colorfu, spiritual and inspirational with a bit of whimsical pop.

Melody got involved in art at the age of seven after writing an essay and drawing pictures for her story "My Trip To Califonia." She won first place and that moment encourge her to keep drawing and writing, which led to where she is today.

Melody's inspiration for drawing comes from God, her husband, children, dreams and intuition. She stated, "my insiration also comes from my desire to express myself and portray my culture in a positive light that uplifts and units others through their love of art. I am inspired to paint bright, beautyful, bold inspirational paintings which embraces natural hair, inner beauty, relationships, motherhood, African American culture, unity and spirituality for everyone to enjoy."

When ask what do you love most about painting, Melody stated, "I love feeling exhilarated while painting. I love mixing colors together to get the perfect shade. Chaz Langley a Boutique R&B artist from Virginia Beach, Virginia. His music is lyric and melody-driven, soulful, uplifting and thought-provoking.

Chaz stated that he became involved in R&B music because he wanted to write music that he like to hear. "Fortunately I'm the only one that could write it because it comes from my life."

When ask who influenced you to pursue music, Chaz stated " my mother and Lionel Richie. My mother is an AMAZING singer and she led by example with a passionate but firm hand. She played Lionel Richie everyday that I could remember growing up as little boy, which led to an amazing story about the two of them later in life."

Chaz stated that his music is unique because it comes from him. He writes his own songs. They are written from things that have shaped his life in various capacities: from love, lost, joy, sacrifice and events that he see in the world that need to have a light shine upon them in the shape of a song.

Chaz has been performing since he was seventeen, thanks to his mentor Chip Gallagher from the Magnet School for the Arts in Virginia. Chaz said, Chip Gallagher shaped the path that he is on.

Chaz has been fortunate to sing on serveral TV commercials and with some amazing artist. He has shared the stage with Michael McDonald, Lucy Woodward and a few others. He had an appearance with R&B sensation Keri Hilson on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Chaz had a couple of his songs on hold with Kelly Clarkson as well as have that song be a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition.

Femi the Drifish, the alternative black licorice flavored lyricist, spoken word artiste, poet, Emcee, British born Nigerian living in Baltimore, MD.
His style of music is what he call Soul-Lyrical-HipHop-Rock but is classified as Alternative in genre.

Femi the Drifish has been a poet artist and performer for over ten years, touring as part of the spoken word duo called The 5th L with his partner Native Son. In the past two years Femi the Drifish started a solo project separated from The 5th L. Femi the Drifish wanted to operate as a band because he enjoyed live music as much as he enjoyed A Capella performances. So Femi started a band called, Femi the Drifish and The Out of Water eXperience as a music meet lyrics experiment that took off for them.

When asked what makes your music unique and different from other artist. Aaron Myers

Aaron Myers - Jazz and Neo-Soul artist, musician and songwriter born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Kerens, Texas. His style of music is old school jazz with a Neo-Soul influence. Growing up, Aaron's mother exposed him to great artist from the 50's, 60's and 70's such as Ray Charles, Sammy Davis Jr, Nina Simone, Mel Torme, Al Green, Billie Holiday and Aretha Franklin, which fueled his passion for Jazz and Soul.

Aaron states that the music he write and perform is inter-generational. "So often music is marketed by breakdowns: 18-24, 25-40, 40-65 and 65 plus. The feedback I have received from my latest album show that my music crosses age demographics."

Aaron was featured entertainer for the 50th Anniversary of the Peace Corps, had his own comedy night at Miyagee's on Sunset and served as Music Supervisor for the film "A Song and a Prayer". He is currently the Resident Artist at the Black Fox Lounge in DC and his new album "Leo Rising" is Grammy Submitted.

Anthony began creating and designing jewelry around the year 2007. He stated he was going through some life changing events in Dallas, TX and decided to pursue his interest in art.

He said, " My inspiration comes from the Most High-God. I often times have dreams of designs that I create. Through vision, things manifest. In some cases, I see something I like, a design of some sort, and try to recreate that design with different mediums."

Anthony loves working with copper! He said, "Copper is so natural to me. It's a pretty metal." He also like working with precious and semi precious stones and beads.

When ask how would you describe your creations, Anthony stated " My creations are natural looking. You can surely tell that they were created by hand.

Arsena Schroeder born in Pittsburgh, PA and raised in Charlotte, NC. She is a talented, songwriter, musician, acoustic soul artist with Christian and Jazz influences.

A lot of Arsena original music is faith-based. "I tend to write about things I'm learning in life with a passion for dispelling religious ideologies" said Arsena.

Arsena started writing music during her sophomore year in college. Which is when she also decided to pursue playing the guitar to accompany the overwhelming amount of melodies and lyrics that occupied her mind.
She has been performing for about four years now, but performing professionally for a year.

Arsena stated," I believe the unique element in my music is vulnerability and authenticity is present. Because I sing faith-based music, one may think my music is religious, "churchy" but it is nothing like that. I literally sing my hurt aches in life. I also incorporate various genres and artist interpretation of cover songs such as jazz, indie rock and folk."

Arsena advanced in a round as an American Idol contestant. She is also endorsed by Breedlove Guitars. She host Open Mic Night in Gaffney, SC at the Capri Theater and she has a series called the "Unplugged + Live House Concert Series. She has performed regionally, nationally and internationally.

Born in Baltimore, MD and raised in Kalamazoo, MI: Rajdulari - songwriter, jazz vocalist at core but also loves performing neo-soul, soul, and gospel-style music.

Rajdulari describes her music as down-home, sittin in your living room with a glass of wine or bubbly, talkin-to-your-favorite-girl-friend/cousin soul/jazz music. Radjulari states she writes songs that women can relate to, that empower and encourage us and tell our stories. She especially writes feel good music for her fellow CurvyGirls out there!

Influenced by vocalist Ella Fitzgerald after seeing a clip of her in " A Tisket, A Tasket", Rajdulari decided to pursue music. Rajdulari is also a huge fan of Anita Baker, Chaka Khan, Sarah Vaughan and Nina Simone.

When asked what makes your music unique and different from other artist, Rajdulari said, " Every artist is unique! Out of the millions of vocalists who are out there, no one has my voice, my story, my body. "

Through her music Rajdulari shares her struggles, her pain and her triumphs with her Loved Ones.

Rajdulari has been in the music industry for fourteen years. Her first album HoneyWine was winner for "Best Jazz Band" @ Urban Music Awards 2011. Her new single "Natural" remains among the Top 100 MP3 Downloads in the Neo Soul Category and is also ranked #4 out of 30 on the overseas UKSoulCharts.

Rajdulari has recently been nominated for a "Black Celebration Award 2013" as a musician in New York.
She has performed in Philly, Boston, Michigan , California, Georgia and Texas among other cities.

Tiffannie Michelle, owner, creator and designer at Sugar Pop from Las Vegas, NV

Tiffannie describes her line of fashion as costume and wearable art, which represents fun flowing, meets rough and edgy woman with alter ego.

Tiffannie has been designing for about a year. When asked why did you choose fashion? Tiffannie stated, " I did not choose fashion, fashion chose me." She said when she and her partner started a photograph company, she saw that it was missing something. So she started making props which lead to making outfits.

Fashion just naturally happen. She can look at fabric and stones and know what she wants to create.

She has recently done a show in Las Vegas for RAW.

Tiffannie is now working on her new line for fall, which includes jackets, scarfs and jewelry.

Sir Abstraxxx - Poet, Spoken Word, Neo-Soul and Hip Hop Artist born and raised in Charlotte, NC.

Sir Abstraxxx got involved in Spoken Word because he always had a love for entertaining and being different. Sir Abstraxxx stated he wrote his first poem at age twelve. Later he started doing research on the Art of Poetry and became very intrigue by it and from then on there was no turning back for him. He has been performing for five years now.

Sir Abstraxxx was influenced by artist such as: Marvin Gay, Jay-Z, Andre 3000, Ruby Francisco, Joshua Bennett among other artist.

He has performed at Upstage, Johnson & Wales University, A.M.C.S and Bodega & Etc in Charlotte. As well as Nuyorican Poets Cafe in NYC and Open Mic in Hampton, VA.

When ask what can one expect to see at his live performance, Sir Abstraxxx said, "I love putting on shows, so one can expect to feel good vibes, crowd participation, me doing unexpected thing and just a great time overall."

Sir Abstraxxx stated that the motivation of the song " I Am Not A Poet" Is based on a situation he was in with a young lady. The meaning behind the song, he said, "Is That I may not have been this when you first met me but you encourage me to do different things or simply do better."

Sir Abstraxxx put his work into videos because not many poets do so and it gave him a chance to do something that he loves which is the Art of Story-Telling.

His upcoming event is: Touch One Thursdays " I Am Art" at Upstage In Charlotte, NC on August 8th

I would like to introduce to you singer and songwriter from Nairobi, Kenya, Wambura Mitaru. This artist is so full of life and enjoys music. She says her music is hard to explain because it cannot be put in one category. "people like to call it a fusion but I call it the music that comes out my mouth"
Wambura likes different styles of music such as Indian, reggae, dance hall neo-soul music. She also like Mali and Senegal as well as different Kenyan styles of music.

Wambura was influenced by her high school music teacher Mrs. Ngunjiri and drama teacher Mrs. Odumbe who really encourage her to pursue art.

Wambura stated, " my dream is to be a teacher in and of music. Performance came to me on this journey of life as a chance to grow and do something that I didn't think that I would jump into at first."

Wambura has been performing for two years now. She performed with her band in Boston and also had the chance to perform in Helsinki Finland and St. Petersburg Russia.

Well Wambura, I must say that I am enjoying the wonderful music that you deliver. Your style speaks volume. So keep blessing us with your lovely sound. I am now a fan and look forward to you recording in the near future.

Check out Wambura Mitaru song "Let Me Love" (one of my favorites by her) which was written by Wambura while she attended a meeting by UNA-GB where a group of people was discussing the issue of early childhood marriages in Africa. " It is basically the cry of a young woman to be allowed to learn about life as a girl growing up into a woman and eventually let her love whom she wants to love rather than being married off and becoming a wife and eventually a mother."

Nadia Washington singer, songwriter and musician born and raised in Dallas, TX . She is a very talented artist with an amazing soulful voice.

Influenced by her mother singer/songwriter/pianist, Nadia decides to pursue music as well and now has been performing for fifteen years.

Nadia describes her music as a mixture of Jazz, Soul, and World Music. She stated, " I usually gravitate to styles that allows me to express full spectrum of emotion and neo soul along with gospel and jazz allow me to emote how I feel."

Nadia also plays the guitar which she has been playing for five years. " I have always been attracted to the guitar since I was a little girl. The sound overall is very beautiful and soothing."

Nadia toured in Russia, performing in fifteen cities with two upcoming artist from New York City. She stated, " it was a lot of hard work and travel but it was a great experience."

She has also performed in Dallas, Los Angeles and New York. She performed at show at Carnegie along with Esperanza Spalding, Lalah Hathaway and George Duke.

Nadia Washington is making waves with her unique soulful sounds.

"I'm excited about the new video! Title of the song is called What We Got. What We Got is a simple song that's despite the crazy things we put ourselves through in a relationship, no matter how we fuss and fight about little things, In the end, all we have is each other. The feeling that I want to convey in the music it self is ease, relaxation, comfort and light hearted sentiment."

When I heard Nadia's vocals, I was blown away by her sound, which is soft and soothing. She grabs your attention and takes you on the journey with her.

Volunteering at the Houston Foodbank

This past weekend I and many others answered the call for 1,000 volunteers to help the Houston Foodbank practice preparing and distributing food and supplies in the event of an emergency. It was the first time they actually coordinated a large crowd for their disaster preparedness drill. Channel 39 Newsfix was even there to document this big event.

It was a great opportunity and I hope to volunteer again individually.

I attended with a local group of Houston naturals volunteering on behalf of the ACHE-SouthEast Texas Chapter which is a organization for Health Executives.
Below is a picture of the many tables and stations filled with volunteers. It was chaotic at first but once you got a system going it was awesome to know we were helping so many people in need.

So many people! Way to go Houston!

J. Hoard & The Greenhouse People

I would like to introduce to you a talented soulful artist from Columbus, Ohio that I had the chance to interview.
J.Hoard, singer and song writer, who attended Berklee College of Music and who is with the group J.Hoard and The Greenhouse People.

J. Hoard created the band in the summer of 2011. The band consists of a solid group of like- minded musicians. Their goal is to always connect, “we humans need to be reminded we aren't alone at our lowest and highest moments in life-music, good music can help provide that reassurance of companionship.”

If you have never heard of J. Hoard and The Greenhouse People, then trust, they are artist and musicians you may want to keep an eye on.

J.Hoard open for and perform with artist such as Victor Wooten, Kim Burrell and Willy Rodriguez of Cultura Profetica. He also has used his soulful vocals to sang background for Richard Smallwood, Regina Bell, Byron Cage and Jonathan Nelson.
As the band, J.Hoard and The Greenhouse People had the amazing opportunity through Feta Music and Jjuanent in Providence to open for (who J.Hoard called the neo-soul genius) Dwele.

When I ask J. Hoard why did he choose music and the sound of neo-soul? He stated, "to be honest, I didn't. I fought it, thought it wasn't for me. It was through my first single " Live To Love You" That I realized how perfect neo-soul was for me."

Well J.Hoard I would say that you have definitely found your sound.

When asked, what can people expect to see at your live performance? J.Hoard stated, "Hopefully the way a collection of individuals committed to enjoying music can fervently deliver stories shared through the lyrics to make bodies sway, heads nod and minds to awaken is the expectation and accomplishment."
