But I just installed Vista Ultimate SP1 on my crappy Gateway laptop, and…uh…well, it’s pretty good. In fact, I don’t regret moving away from XP at all. And the crazy thing works great now. It hibernates good, resumes good, all my software has been working fine…

And to put the Apple Fanboy Spin on it, it looks pretty decent as well.

I’m more shocked than you that I’m giving WIndows Vista a good review. Seriously. I’m going to go drink some beer and make sure my soul is still here. Well, if I believed in souls. But you know what I mean.

In fact, I almost think this will be a great movie for Marvel. After they destroyed a past incarnation of The Hulk, finally drove the Spiderman franchise into the ground with the third one (could that movie have sucked any more than it did?) - could they come up a winner with Iron Man? Let’s wait and see.

Sigh. What can’t science do??

I’d rather actually have Britney babysit my children than pay .99 cents for one of her songs…maybe this court order can keep her in Vodka and McNuggets.

Ok, I wouldn’t let her babysit a stuffed animal, much less my own spawn. Just being funny.

Personally, I’d check out Amazon’s mp3 service. Get the one or two nuggets you want, no DRM, cheap as hell…and then don’t sweat all this lawsuit shit.

Anyway, sadly, you are taking your chances if you are still filesharing music.

I have just finished suffering through 98% of Halo 3, just so that I can tell you a little about it.

First, it was easy to get my hands on. I went over to Walmart around 7AM and just picked it up. No line, no fuss. They had many copies. The sales guy in Electronics told me the sad story about how all the Special Editions are winding up with scratched disks; the evidently aren’t secured in the tin.

Well, I didn’t care - I had Halo 3 Normal Edition in my hands. Time to get home!

First of all, the graphics. They are nice. They are not the nicest game graphics I have ever seen. They are nice. I think Resistance Fall of Man might have been better. But they were great, don’t get me wrong. It very much feels like a “touched up” Halo 2, which is fine with me. I liked Halo 2.

I just finished up what I think is the second to last mission of the campaign - you are hunting around a crashed ship for that crazy hologram lady that lived in your head in Halo 2. This level sucks balls. Good luck 1) surviving and 2) not getting incredibly lost and wasting a ton of time walking in circles.

With that complaint out of the way, I have really enjoyed the game. The story is great, the gameplay is smooth and nice. The game is a real challenge, but it isn’t ridiculous (except for that level I just mentioned where I was lost forever).

You get some new perks, too. You can carry these little devices around with you for some neat effects; portable shelter, shield sphere, power drain, etc.

On a whole, I totally recommend the game. It’s about 7 hours of play on single player campaign; I haven’t touched the online yet, but I promise to update you after I do.

Over at oreillynet.com, Derek Sivers has an opinion piece about why, after two years, he’s switched back from Rails to PHP. I found this pretty interesting to read. When something fresh like Rails appears on the scene, you get what I call “The Java Reaction”. Everyone craps their pants about how amazing it is and how it will save the world from Space Nazis. Then, after a while, some really cool apps show up using the New Thing.

Then, inevitably, some people move back to where they started. I think there is an “early adopter” mentality that can overcome business needs, skillsets, and often good taste.

I’m not crapping on Rails, though. It’s amazing, and I really enjoy tinkering with it. But…I know PHP pretty well, and it does what I need. So I’m not in a hurry to go 100% Rails, or to even move this site over to Rails.
