I’m totally obsessed with Slickdeals. Like ridiculously obsessed. Its become a religion. Fuck Taoism. Fuck Transhumanism. Slickdealism all the way. Anyway, I joked one day that I was going to build a computer from strictly slickdeals deals. Then I decided I wasn’t joking.

I started my endeavor about two weeks ago, with the intention of posting each of my purchases as I made them. That turned out like you would expect… So over the next few days I’ll be posting the components I’ve purchased so far. That should be enough motivation to post the deals that I have yet to buy as they go down.

My first purchase was on Newegg for a Sony Optiarc Black 2MB Cache SATA CD/DVD OEM Burner

and a OCZ ModXStream Pro 500W Power Supply.

The burner was priced at $19.99 and the PSU was $54.99. If you purchased them together there was a $20.00 discount. There was also a $20.00 mail in rebate. P.S. Shipping was free.

If you are keeping score at home the totals are as follows:

Regular Price: 74.98

Deal Price: 34.98

Total Spent: 34.98

Total Saved: 40.00

More to come soon.

I was originally going to post this yesterday but upon second thought found it to be bad form. Memorial Day is a day to remember those that died in service to this country, not to be overshadowed by politics.

I suggest we create a day to remember those that have died or have their lives irreparably changed by the incompetence, negligence or greed of big business. Hows June 4th sound? Oh, can’t think of anyone to remember? I can help. How about those that have died in mine explosions? Just another tragic ”accident”, right? Babies that decided they don’t need quality cribs. Those that have been unable to stop their cars. The food we eat is pretty safe yet pretty safe isn’t quite good enough for everyone. One of the biggest tragedies that has effected us all, some more than others, is the Great Recession. These just scratch the surface of extremely recent history, but you get the picture.

What astonishes me is that I constantly hear people saying government is too big, too invasive and it should not be so involved in our lives. Do they really know what they are asking for? If the government isn’t there to protect us from Big Business’ desire to make more and more money, who is? Sure, government isn’t perfect but unless I’ve missed something its our best and only option. Be careful what you wish for people, you just might get it.

Oh! I almost forgot.

Also, if a drilling a relief well is the best chance at stopping situations like this it should be required to have a relief well 90% drilled before the well is operational. And don’t tell me their blowout preventer system should do the trick. We know they are just for show anyway.

Yesterday I tried to use HP’s Drive Key Boot Utility to make a bootable USB flash drive with Server 2008 . I was not successful. I’m not exactly sure why as I’ve used it to install XP Embedded from a USB flash drive before. Regardless I gave up and looked for another solution. Now there are plenty of solutions floating around on the internet but all seemed to rely on a 3rd party solution for creating the boot sector. After a bit of web sleuthing, I finally found a working solution. Now we are happily running Server 2008!

Yes, I understand that there are easy solutions other than a bootable USB flash drive but I’m stubborn. And this solution should allow me to get rid of a lot of disks and keep a handful of .iso files instead. Now just to up the nerdery with a sweet Star Wars USB mod.

I am tired of the following healthcare bill arguments so please stop using them.

1. This bill is poor fiscal policy and the CBO doesn’t know what its doing.

I’ll agree its hard to predict these things but if you can’t judge a bill by the CBO’s assessment how do you suggest we determine fiscal viability? Gut feeling, Uneducated guesses?

2. I don’t want to pay for the uninsured to get insurance.

News flash! You already do.

3. Healthcare doesn’t need more government regulation.

Right, because the people making a profit off our sickness have our best interests at heart. Just like the banks and wall street. Oh wait…

4. Its socialism.

One, all the uninsured that will get insurance will either be in the current market system or an existing social program. There is no single payer system (unfortunately). Second, Don’t be a hypocrite.

5. Poor people don’t deserve health insurance because they are lazy, stupid, don’t take care of themselves or some other ridiculous ignorant statement.

Go DIAF. Seriously. At the very least don’t breed.

Feel free to use other dumb arguments until I tire of them. I’ll let you know. Trust me.

I originally wanted to post more than just once a week but as you can see that hasn’t happened. I’ve been so busy with work, surprising my girlfriend for her birthday and the time sink that is WoW that I have had no time for anything else, let alone blogging. I have changed the name of the blog thanks to some help from the masses (how ever small) on gbuzz. Still not sure how I feel about the new name or what content it will drive me towards but its a start. I almost went with the suggestion Nerd’s Words. Which might be more realistic seeing how I’m probably going to talk about nerdy shit ALL of the time.

Now my girlfriend may try to comment that I had time to blog this weekend while she was doing homework but she is wrong! I was busy playing…

I got so excited about some of the Civ 5 news coming out and had to brush up on my skillz. And I have a lot of brushing up to do… I would actually like to get a weekly multiplayer night together to practice but we’ll see if I can get enough interest. Maybe Tuesday nights?

So like the fanboi I am I had to run out to Best Buy at lunch to get a copy of Final Fantasy XIII.

After a lot of back and forth and even some trash talking with the BB clerks I went with the PS3 version. I’ll let you know what I think. What I’m afraid of though is not finishing the game. I’ve yet to finish Mass Effect 2 even though I love the game (except for planet scanning, AWFUL). And there are a slew of other half finished games I have laying around including Fallout 3 and Fable 2. Yes I know, they are old. And yes, I’m embarrassed. So I’m going to make a commitment; No new games (or gamefly) until I’ve beaten at least a few of these finished. The PS3 is finally finished updating, Final Fantasy calls.

P.S. Gonna try and work on the look of things this week. Maybe add a real logo and some additional pages too.

Welcome, my friends, to Never Eat Soggy Waffles. I am woefully unprepared to begin this new blog but yet I must. I’m slightly embarrassed that I must ask for help on my very first post. I need assistance with an actual name. NESW is just plain awful name and I am hard pressed to come up with anything that I like. Part of that may be due to the fact that I have no idea really what I’m going to make this blog about . I guess (hope?) that the content will come about organically. We shall see. In the meantime maybe someone can suggest a name that maybe will push me towards a theme and maybe even content.

Expect this site to change dramatically over the next few days and weeks. I’ll be creating a new layout or maybe use a Thesis theme; I’m still undecided. I still have to clean up some of the links and formatting prior to a new design just for usability sake. For example, its a pain in the ass to get to the registration page. Currently registration is required to post comments, we’ll see how long that lasts. Anyway, I have to run. Business to intend to!
