Don't worry, just this blog's last post, not Faid's last post. I'm upgraded to a real domain and all of that, so let's get this move underway!

When I first created NerfFaids I did not anticipate it ever becoming anything beyond a public journal for my own gold making. I never thought there would be fans or any reason I may need to give out the URL and so the URL was always clunky. "Uh, it's nerffaids.blogspot.com but that's with a double f and Faid is spelled weird . . ." Just don't really flow, does it? Let's not even start on the fact that it caused people to refer to me as Faids more often than not!

Thanks to generous donations from fans (if you'd like to chip in check out the widget up top!) I was able to register a domain. Clockwork Riot? Yeah, it's a bit nonsensical, but so is my blog so that's alright. Plus it just sounds badass, which also describes my blog.

Don't worry, I'm not about to change my content; you can expect the same quality Faid-content here, it will just look prettier and be easier to direct people to the site. NerfFaids will no longer be updated. Don't worry, if you ever need to reference anything or just want to relive past memories the entire blog will still exist at nerffaids.clockworkriot.com for your viewing pleasure.

I've also renamed my twitter and created a new Youtube account to mesh with the new domain. Be sure to follow/subscribe and all that good stuff at the links below to stay up to date on any Faidnews from here on out. I will be making my "Best of Nerf Faids" videos available on the new Youtube channel in the coming weeks and will also be publishing all of my new gold making videos there, so be sure you're following!

Importable TSM Mog Lists v2.0

A while back I made a post on the Consortium forums containing importable TSM shopping lists for Keelhaul's Cloth, Mail, and Plate mog armor recommendations. However, there were some issues with it. For starters, it was a full list. It included things like pants which wouldn't even show under the robes, tons of bracers that wouldn't show, etc. Also, there was no leather list.

This morning I decided to completely redo my shopping lists. I completely deleted my original lists and began recreating them now that I know a bit more about mog selling.

What I Used

The lists are almost entirely based off of the lists by Keelhaul, farli_wow, and EpicPennyPouch which can be found in Power Word Gold's Hatchery. Here are the original lists, if you would like to take a look at them: Cloth, Leather, Mail, Plate.

What I Did

My previous effort to make the lists which resulted in the Consortium post was essentially taking the entire list and everything in every set and making it importable into TSM. It was very helpful as a starting point but many people found themselves filling up on bracers, ugly hats, and cloth pants that they don't need.

When creating the importable version of the leather list, and in revamping every other armor type, I was much more discerning this time around. I removed almost every bracer and simple-looking hat or belt. Most cloth pants and shoes are not in this list, nor are most simple looking shoulders. To put it simply I included the sets that looked best or most unique, and the most important pieces of those sets. Many lower tier sets, or sets that look so plain or similar to many other sets were removed altogether. I trimmed the fat, so to speak.

Miscellaneous Notes

Some items that are very rare and sell very well on your server may have been removed; every server is different. I tailored these lists with my own experiences in mind (e.g. the Lord's set was removed since I have a million of those sitting around, too common for my tastes!) and while the armor may be one-size-fits-all this list probably isn't. You may want to use these lists as a starting point to add or trim to work for you.

Leather sets were an interesting animal. They have many sets that look almost identical but are different colors. (Chieftain's Set shares a skin with several others in the list.) I included all the different colors and types that share a color. Understand when buying and selling though that one item may have a much more common item that's virtually interchangeable; this is especially apparent with the leather belts that appear to have studs or rivets in them, like in the Chieftain's Set previously linked. I included them but buy at your own risk!

Nerf Faids Live: The Stream!

I finally had the chance to get together with Jim from Power Word Gold and get my settings all figured out and we were able to get my stream up and running! So be sure to follow me on twitch.tv for live gold making videos as they happen. You can participate and ask questions and see how I play in real-time!

I did my first stream this morning, thank you to everyone who participated. I did go back and delete the saved file I'm afraid. The reason being is that in my noobness to streaming I did two very bad things: For a brief moment my login name appeared and then I accidentally said half my password as I typed it in. So, naturally, zee evidence had to be destroyed!

I intend to record future streams and embed them for those who can't make it to the live recordings but I do invite everyone to come participate in them, they're a lot of fun. (Follow me on Twitter for up-to-the-minute updates on when I start streaming.)

End of Expac Slump + Two New Videos

Before we get into talk of the end of expansion slump I'd better get these videos in! A few days ago I put up episode 4 of my new shorter video series and tonight I've put up episode 5. Sorry I didn't post right when 4 went up but I think the slump has hit my blogging as well as my gaming and I overlooked posting it. Better late than never, though, so here are both of the newest episodes.

We were in ICC for almost exactly a year. A year. Sure, Halion came out, but that was a shadow of a real raid. Once we'd cleared everything we likely would in Wrath of the Lich King I was bored out of my mind. I turned to gold making and have been enjoying that ever since. Gold-making was new and interesting. There were things to learn, actions to perform, and rewards if I did well. Like raiding.

Now that Cataclysm is nearing that same point in ICC my interest is waning once more. But gold making, my old go-to, isn't new and exciting anymore. It's like farming raid content for gear you don't even want. I've set an arbitrary goal of 2 million gold before Mists of Pandaria but that's not enough to motivate me.

Hell, I pulled in 70k the other day just doing the same old same old. Nothing's challenging about gold making anymore. When MoP releases and there are all sorts of new items, strategies, and gold sinks I'm sure I'll be dying to compete in the market but right now I'm just spinning my wheels here.

Really, what do you do when you've got gold making on farm status? Play TF2, I guess.

Disenchant Scans - The lazy gold maker's best friend.

For those who listen to the Power Word Gold podcast this won't be super new as I mentioned it in a past episode. However, the response to the tip has been so great I thought it would make a great subject for a quick Gold Rush video.

I was originally introduced to the idea by Zerohour at the Consortium forums and noticed quickly that many people over there seem to use this tip. Just one of many great tips that I've picked up over there; check em out if you haven't already.

Gold Rushes are back!

This (early) morning I'm announcing the repurposing of the Gold Rush series. I did Faid's WoW Gold Rush to feature ways to make gold in 15 minutes or less of play time. The videos are still up there and the like but I've decided to repurpose the title. I've launched a new video series under the Gold Rush name in which the rush refers less to the time spent in-game and more to the time spent watching the video.

Each video will be fairly short (this first video is only a minute long!) and will feature one or two assorted gold making tips. The reason I'm doing this is that shorter videos will allow me to put out new videos more often. In other words you can look forward to a video every few days. I'm going to shoot for every other day! So I hope you all will enjoy those, here's the first:

My second announcement is a bit less exciting I would imagine. Not often, but occasionally I'll have a fan of my blog or videos ask me how they can contribute/show their appreciation, such as donating to PayPal. I've not used PayPal extensively so I tried setting up an Amazon wishlist but there were complications, so for now there is only PayPal donations which can be accessed via the button in the top right.

The Obligatory Schedule Post

Over time I've had many people ask me to post my daily gold making routine. There are two reasons I haven't done so.

The first is that I've been worried people will take my schedule the wrong way. You see, I'm a total no-lifer in this game. I play day in and day out. So my "routine" often plays out over 10 or so hours of playtime. I worry that this sends the message that the reason I have a lot of gold is that I spend a lot of time getting it. While it certainly helps I don't want to send that message. Even with very little play time you can get great results. I just happen to have a lot of time on my hands so I spend it playing.

The second is that it's difficult! I wanted to make a video but with two accounts going at once it was a nightmare to figure out how to record and edit it into a video that would show what it needed to show in a decent amount of time. I brought up this issue with flux and he recommended I just keep a written log of my activities and use that. So here's that log from yesterday.

The blue text is my main account which houses most of my crafters and max level toons, the red text is my secondary account which is mostly made up of AH/bank toons. Green text is out-of-game information.

4:50 AM – Log on to Liquidate, cancel and repost auctions. Liquidate is a general purpose AH toon. She handles enchant scrolls, belt buckles, items I'm flipping. Generally most things are sold by her on Alliance. Do a TSM Dealfinding search, no deals right now.

4:50 AM – Log on to Faid to check mail, clean out bags from last night's raid. A friend in my guild has been asking me to get him a Horde Festival Lantern in exchange for his Alliance one, so I need to do that. Sending the Lunar Lantern I received to Tekelili for banking until after the holiday to sell later. My Oracle Egg hatched but I just got aged yolk. :( I'll have to buy another when I'm out doing dailies for Argent Tournament later.

4:50 AM – Check the Consortium forums, e-mail, twitter.

4:56 AM – Put on my Blessed Medallion of Karabor and port to Black Temple to check for Collidus the Warp Watcher.

4:59 AM – Killed Collidus, put on my Argent Tournament tabard and port to Icecrown. Log out after porting, I need to do other stuff before I forget.

5:01 AM – Log over to Andawe, my Horde scribe/enchanter. Check mail, do an Auctioneer+Disenchant scan, and Northrend Inscription Research. I found several items in the disenchant scan. I spent 110g on them and posted enchanting materials worth 478g. It doesn't sound like much but doing this every day has net me about 20k in the past month! I learned Glyph of Frost Armor.

5:01 AM – Log into Verixi, my Horde alchemist/Jewelcrafter. Do the Orgrimmar JC daily, Transmute Water to Air, and check ore prices. (Still bad! Horde are often much more expensive than Alliance, but always worth looking.) The JC daily is Nibbler! No! which is great news since that means I can do it on my level 76 warlock easily. When it's Elemental Goo I either have to dualbox it or must skip it. I trade my JC token for a Chimera's Eye and sell it. (I have all the cuts on my two Alliance JCs and rarely cut on Horde, so I just sell the eyes.)

5:08 AM – Not much going on on the interwebz (Did you know I put my e-mail address up at the top of the blog in case you wanted to contact me? :D I'm lonely.) Switching to Pandora.com.

5:11 AM – Do a TSM destroying scan for any Blackfallow, Ethereal, or Ink of the Sea at 6g or less on Horde. I didn't get very much. Since the bots have been banned it's slim pickin but I was able to buy enough to make 12 IotS and 17 Ethereal Ink. I'll bank it; I can use it to make glyphs for Horde or Alliance but I'll keep it here for now.

5:20 AM - Log on to Byakhee, my Alliance warlock. Do the JC dailies for Dalaran and Stormwind, Transmute Water to Air. I still do the JC daily in Dalaran for any JC that's still leveling since it's worth good experience.

5:21 AM - Log onto Klix, my Alliance DK. Do the JC daily in SW.

5: 25 - Rapid succession Alchemist visits. Log to Lexicar, Kendran, and Lockbox to Transmute Water to Air on each. (Two procced x2!)

5:29 AM - Log to Tekelili, my glyph seller. Today is not my day to sell glyphs so I'm taking in the gold I earned yesterday and the glyphs I didn't sell. Finding out what needs to be restocked later today.

5:32 AM - Log to Rixen and do an Auctioneer+Disenchant scan on Alliance. I sell mats I have a lot of and anything I'm often running low on, such as Large Brilliant Shards, get banked. It looks like someone was leveling LW because there are tons of leather crafted greens to DE. Cha-ching. The guy who sold them whispered me and asked me why I bought all his stuff. I told him and he said "If I had known people were going to buy it I would have put it up for more." I'm like "But then I probably wouldn't have bought it . . ." I don't think he gets it.

5:46 AM - Finished bringing in my glyphs/gold. I spent some gold yesterday on my glyph toon (I needed it for the other account but didn't want to log to my general banker, so used GlyphGold. Had I not done that I think my take from yesterday was about 16k for glyphs.

5:47 AM - Log onto Kickback, my general auction house toon on Horde. Most of my Horde selling is cross-faction pets and recipes, so mostly this is just cancelling and reposting those. I also am checking the price on Festival Lanterns and buying any under 6k. Looks like my competitor's auctions have expired on most cross-faction stuff, cancelling to raise prices always feels good. :D

5:57 AM - Log onto Neutrality, Kickback's Alliance counterpart. She mostly deals in cross-faction stuff, as her name implies, but she's also my "old stuff" bank. Any crafting materials and such that aren't from Cataclysm are in her guild bank <Your Self Storage> and if anyone gets the reference without looking it up I will give you so many Faid Rep Points. Both of my cross-faction banks are looking pretty empty, I will need to go on a recipe run later today.

6:00 AM - Done doing the DE stuff on Rixen. Most of teh other toons on this account have no real daily purpose. A level 60 PvE twink rogue, a herb/skinning druid and that's about it. This account's now on hold until I finish with second account maintenance and can plan the rest of the day.

6:05 AM - Logging back to Liquidate to do another Dealfinding search. If I can find cheap Runecloth or something I can give the main account something to do while I finish up second account stuff. I found some cheap Runecloth. Hooray. Also buying and banking a bunch of cheap Volatiles while I'm here since I'm running a bit low. Also bought 7k gold worth of Elementium, sending it to Klix.

6:11 AM - On Rixen turning Runecloth into bolts, then headbands, then DEing the headbands and selling the materials.

6:22 AM - Logging onto Croft, my Horde glyph posting toon. I can post any day on Croft, I don't have a deal on Hordeside. But I'm also much less interested in the Horde glyph market so I usually just recycle the glyphs once a day or so.

6:29 AM - Hold everything! Someone on Hordeside is selling stacks of Elementim for a decent price and selling in bulk. To the bank toon!

6:40 AM - Deal complete! I bought 102 stacks of Elementium at 110g per stack (Average on Alliance is 140g/stack) so I've got lots to prospect! I'll prospect all of it on Verixi and then send the raw gems cross-faction. Logging back to Croft to continue flipping glyphs on the second account.

6:43 AM - Logging onto Verixi to start prospecting all that ore. Hooray for macros!

6:56 AM - Taking a good bit of time to flip glyphs on Horde even though I don't have very many of them. I have issues with TSM Warehousing so I have to do it with BankStack. It takes longer but at least it works. :D Hoping to get to the bottom of my Warehousing problem soon.

7:07 AM: Woo, finally finished Horde glyphs. Just one more bank toon to check. Off to Kickstart. (Not to be confused with Kickback) Kickstart has two purposes: She's my transmog seller and also is the guild leader of my guild experiment Lackadaisical. So I'm going to flip my mog pieces and spam Super Guild Invite invites. I'm going to spend a lot of time reworking some pricing tiers for transmog today because I've been unhappy with my results lately.

7:21 AM - Finished prospecting all of Verixi's Elementium. Send the raw gems to Andawe to move across the neutral AH later. Right now I'm going to Klix to prospect the smaller amount of ore I bought on Alliance.

8:18 AM - Finished prospecting Klix's ore and turning the green gems into jewelry.

8:18 AM - I'm not done managing my transmog settings but I'm going to get off Kickstart temporarily to move the raw gems from Horde to Alliance. This way the main account can continue to shuffle while I'm dealing with mog stuff. Also, my feet are cold. :(

8:30 AM - Haha, someone just sniped 4 Hessonite from me. I am so amused because they just missed about 7,000g worth of Inferno Rubies a few seconds ago. Ah, that's hilarious. Anyways, finished moving the stuff across.

8:32 AM - Back on Kickstart finishing up some mogging management. Now Klix can start making jewelry and such. :D

9:19 AM - Finished making jewelry with all my green gems and mailed the jewelry to my enchanter. Now time to cut the blue-quality gems.

9:50 AM - Finished doing my mog list management, switching back to Liquidate to cancel and repost.

9:54 AM - Finished cutting blue gems and mailed them to Liquidate, now off to the enchanter to DE the jewerly. Totally playing Plants vs. Zombies while I DE this crap. :D

10:25 - Alright, all the jewelry's DEd. I've been selling a lot of enchants recently so I'm going to restock now. Time to do a TSM scan on Rixen, queue up profitable enchants, and hope there's enough materials to make them. :D

11:25 AM - Finished restocking enchants, still just AH camping on Liquidate. Going to run to the first boss of H MgT on my mage for a mog dagger I'm hoping to get.

11:28 AM - No dagger, again. :(

And now this is about where I "drop off." I start most days strong, doing gold making tasks as you've seen above. But then once all the basics are taken care of I start a task. Like, today I'm going to spend the afternoon visiting vendors for recipes and pets. So I AH camp on one account while working on a project on the other and that's about it!

As much as I wish this were just a clever marketing ploy to get everyone to follow me on Twitter it's not. I just had my Google account disabled for no reason. Just minding my own business and bam, I was locked out of my e-mail, my blog, and my YouTube account and all posts on my blog were removed.

I'm back in for now and the blog is here, thank God. I'm not sure if I'm permanently back in or if I'll be re-disabled for another non-existent reason. This is just another reason why I hate that Google controls so many important services. They have next to no customer service so if I do get locked out I'll probably be fucked.

I want to stay with Google because I like the services but should it break I'll just restart a blog at WordPress. Not my plan right now, but if you ever come here and Nerf Faids is missing that's probably what's happened.

Louder Audio for the TSM Guide Videos

Hey folks, I could use just a moment of your time to help me out. I had several people comment on the quietness of the TSM guide videos. While I'm sure those folks could turn it up it did create a problem for me. I intend to eventually do a few more guides for other modules and tips/tricks kind of stuff and there would be a problem with volume uniformity. So I've reuploaded all of the TSM guide videos. They're virtually the same, just more normalized in volume with slightly worse sound quality as a result.

The more views, likes, comments, etc that my videos get on Youtube the more it helps me out. By uploading all of these again I lost any likes and comments you folks had on the previous. I would be very appreciative if, assuming you did like them, you could take a look at the louder videos and give em a thumbs up if you approve. Thanks folks!

TSM Videos - A Beginner's Guide

The time has finally come! Sapu and the rest of the dedicated TSM team have released the newest version of TradeSkillMaster! I've been using a pre-release version for a while now and have had a lot of fun with it. The team's done a great job and I'm sure you all will enjoy the changes.

At the bottom of this post is a series of videos which should help newcomers to the addon find their way around and perhaps teach veterans a few things. They are not designed as an advanced manual of tactics; my goal in creating these videos was to help people who have just installed TSM to learn the basics. I'm still learning certain aspects of the addon mysef (Sapu even gave me some tips on my own use of it after I showed him the videos!) but this should be a sufficient primer for those who have found it intimidating in the past.

There is currently no video for Warehousing. While I have used the tool for a limited time I am still fairly clumsy with it myself as I attempt to learn how exactly it works with my setup. Once I am more well-versed with Warehousing I will make a video but it is not required to use the core of TSM so for now it is absent from my video guides.

So what's new?
A lot! In its new form TSM has shed the side-bar style and has integrated into the main AH panel with its own TSM tab from which you use the TSM plugins like shopping for crafting mats and posting auctions. There are new reset scants, shopping lists, and an easy to understand UI.

I hope you all enjoy these videos; I admit my editing isn't top notch but they should serve their purpose well! PLEASE watch these in HD so that you can see the settings and whatnot.

One of my favorite enchanting markets involves heirloom enchants. While they may take certain miscellaneous items like Essence of Air or Righteous Orbs they pretty much all take a few common components: Greater Eternal Essence, Illusion Dust, and Large Brilliant Shards.

No, I'm not going to rehash the same tired Enchanted Thorium Blades and Runecloth Headbands post, though you can certainly integrate them into this little shuffle I'm about to introduce. You see, I hate Enchanted Thorium Blades. Rugged Leather and Thorium Ore are rarely in abundant, cheap supply on my server with so many people leveling. Doing only Runecloth Headbands will give you far more Dust than Essence. What's an enchanter to do?

It's time to visit Gorn One Eye. Never heard of him? That's because he's being sneaky and hiding behind this tree root in Timbermaw Tunnel:

Now, any enchanter into heirloom enchants is already exalted with Timbermaw for the Agility enchants. If you're not go get it done, since Cataclysm it's crazy nerfed and won't take you long at all. Gorn will sell you an item called the Furbolg Medicine Totem, a one handed mace which will cost you about 9g 31s with all discounts applied.

I bought 50 of them (465g78s50c spent) and DE'd all of them. They DE into Lesser Eternals, Dream Dust, and Small Brilliant Shards. This is what I ended up with.

There are very few uses for Small Briliants so I turn those into +100 Health to chest. They move slower and for less than +4 Stats but since you can give them a lower price tag they can be attractive to the thrifty alt.

On my server right now a Greater Eternal is 41g, so leaving aside the shards and dust I can already sell these items at a 400g profit and all I did was visit a vendor. I didn't need to rely on anything on the AH and could essentially do this endlessly.

However, I do this for enchanting materials. Now, Dream Dust is virtually useless as an enchant material but can be "traded up" in a few different ways. The most popular way to do this is probably Enchanted Thorium Blades. That tends to net more Eternals (not a bad thing.) So be sure to have Rugged Leather and Thorium Ore and Bars on a snatch list. Also consider Wizardweave Robes, though they are not very efficient, they're just a way to get rid of way too much Dream Dust without flat out destroying it should you be unable to find enough Thorium/Leather.

In short, this is a way to always get unlimited Eternal Essences without having to worry about depleting your AH of the materials necessary for the blades and headbands and the like. Unlimited essences are at your finger tips!

TSM Guide Videos are coming!

For a long time people have been asking me to make TSM set up guides. I've always just recommended guides other folks have made because other gold makers have made some very informative videos. However, people have continued to request them since, as I've been told, I'm "really good at explaining things." Whatever that means.

I've been putting off making the videos for a while but Sapu is preparing to release a new version of TSM. He was very kind in allowing me to preview this version and I thought this would be a great opportunity to buckle down and make these videos.

They will not be in-depth gold making strategy guides for making gold with TSM. If you'd like some of those check out the Consortium, as they have great guides posted there. My mission in creating these videos is to give someone who has just picked up TSM a primer in how the addon works.

So when the new version of TSM is released be sure to make your second stop (after downloading the addon) this blog and/or my Youtube channel as I'm looking to release these whenever Sapu officially launches the update!

Lunar Festival: Gather ALL the coins.

On the 22nd of this month the Lunar Festival will begin. For those who don't remember or don't care the Lunar Festival is a holiday where we go all around Azeroth visiting our Elders. Each Elder gives a token and you can then go to Moonglade in Kalimdor and buy fireworks and dresses and the like with your little Tokens of Ancestry. There's a big dog in Moonglade named Omen to kill and that's pretty much it.

Until this year! This year we will see the arrival of two new pets the Festival Lantern (Horde Version) and the Lunar Lantern (Alliance Version.) For fifty Coins of Ancestry you can get your faction's version and learn it, or sell it on the AH.

But why stop there? So far we have a few examples of faction specific pets. There are the Argent Tournament pets as well as the enchanting pets so this idea shouldn't be new to most gold makers. These pets create a tremendous opportunity for gold making in a few different ways.

The Swapper

If you have toons of a decent level on both factions then you could just earn your own pets and swap them across. All you'll need is some neutral AH skills and, assuming you only have one account, a friend to help you out. New to the business? Check this out:

The Shopper

If you have enough gold on the opposing faction (or are willing to take a 15% cut to move a bunch over before the holiday) you can do the usual buy-low-sell-high concept. A lot of people will probably see a sellable pet and flood the AH with them. I'm not sure how these will be priced when they come out but unless your economy is completely screwed you will probably be able to buy them cheap and resell at a much better profit on the opposing faction. So if you're a Horde player add Festival Lanterns to your snatch list (Alliance hit up Lunar Lantern) and buy them out when they're relatively cheap. Move them across the Neutral AH and enjoy your gold.

Remember that this will be depleting your gold on one faction in favor of making more on the other. To keep your gold stores up on both factions be sure to be doing this both ways. While I don't personally care much about gold on Horde, for instance, I still would buy Alliance pets to sell to Horde to keep my gold up so that I can keep buying Horde pets to sell to Alliance. Winning!

The Sniper

This probably won't be quite as worthwhile but it's something of interest to mention. I know I will definitely be a Shopper this holiday season. There will probably be at least one person, if not more, per server trying to move pets across the Neutral AH. If you are the type to do this you may want to keep an eye on the Neutral AH zones (Booty Bay, Tanaris, and Winterspring) and snipe the pets as people attempt to move them. It's a bit shady and not my style but if you're interested in it it will be a great way to pick up a few cheap pets.

Bonus: Fireworks!

I love Fireworks. Especially when I can shoot them at my friends. While most people will probably spend all their tokens on pets you may end up with a few extra. For the past several years I've been buying Elune's Candles (using a MOLL-E to mail them then a guild bank to store them, as they are Unique) and then barking them in Trade throughout the year. Quite popular on July 4, New Years, etc. They're slow sellers but if you have the tokens to waste anyways no real reason not to.

As long as you're up there . . .

I always thought this dress was ugly as all hell but apparently a lot of people are interested in Formal Danguis. This item has a very very low spawn rate on Geenia Sunshadow in Moonglade so when you're bored take the moonbeam to Moonglade and check her out. Be aware that I believe the huge demand for this was because the dress once had a very high iLevel and could have nice higher level enchants put on it. That is no longer the case. However many people would still be interested in it because it is so rare, so no reason not to check.

While there be sure to pick up Pattern: Runecloth Robe from Darnall (sell the pattern or learn it, the dresses are nice for transmog,) Pattern: Felcloth Pants and Formula: Enchant Cloak - Superior Defense from Lorelae Wintersong.

There are likely many other gold making opportunities, such as hitting up other vendors while you're running around spamming Elders for coins, but that's a pretty good start for gold making this holiday.

I was twiddling my thumbs, rather bored with the game for a while. Well, not bored with the game, just too dazzled by the Steam Holiday Sale to pay too much attention to WoW. I have more gold than I could ever really need but wanted to keep trying new ways to make gold, so what was something I'd never tried?

Other people. /shudder. I veer drastically from super friendly to complete bitch on a nearly hourly basis so I tend to play solo when it comes to gold-making. But unfortunately one thing Legacy of the Illuminati is short on is guild drama. I try to pick fights with Eluniar but he won't have any of it. =[

So where am I to get my fill of WoW soap opera drama? And try a new tactic to make gold? And meet up with new people for laughs and good times?

<Lackadaisical> of course! I decided I wanted to try the Great Guild Experiment. Many people have already done this I believe. Start up a random guild, invite anyone with a pulse to grind out levels, sit back and wait for gold to come in.

Now, I'm not technically doing this to make gold. In fact, I've put a bit of gold into it already (bribing lowbies to stay in by offering guild repairs, not that they cost a lot and providing Netherweave Bags in a limited quantity) and don't really see it as a money making powerhouse, more of just a little experiment.

So I named it Lackadaisical. Apart from being able to call my members my lackeys I felt that the definition fully encompassed how I feel about my guild experiement.

I made a new alt for it because, while I'm not super secretive about who my main is, I didn't want everyone to whisper me with every little noob question every 30 seconds while I was in raid. I downloaded Super Guild Invite and away I went!

Once I got Super Guild Invite running (the 4.3 update had temporarily busted it but it's been fixed now) I was getting 10-20 members everytime I logged on and ran it. Granted, around half, sometimes more, would leave the guild within a day but I didn't mind; my focus is not on retention. While we may lose ten level fives I can log on and recruit fifteen more, so I should come out of it all okay.

One thing I did, though, is set SGI to blacklist after one invite. I don't mind spam guild invites as long as they're not truly spam who keep inviting you over and over again. So that was my small service to the guildless community there.

Currently we're sitting at 120 members and are about 30% of the way to Level 2. It's slow going since most of the guild members are very low level and none are running guild dungeons together, but it's getting there. Considering I'm putting in virtually no work any progress is fine with me.

I figure best case scenario I get a level 25 guild someday that grinds gold for me via guild challenges and Cash Flow, worst case scenario I go ballistic, get rid of everyone (though it's not my plan) and have a guild bank to store stock for Pandaria.

So that's what I've been up to when not buying all sorts of games I never knew I wanted on Steam. Oh, and since I'm completely addicted to starting new blogs for new projects, check out One BLU Medic if you're interested in TF2 and/or in-game economies.

Merry Christmas: Update on the Give-Away

I hope everyone had a good Christmas! As scheduled I did the /roll at random for the Amnesia game on Christmas Eve, a winner has been chosen. I haven't been playing WoW much, I log on once a day to do auctions but the Holiday Steam Sale has distracted me quite a bit. Orcs Must Die!, Defense Grid: The Awakening, And Yet it Moves, Limbo, TF2's Australian Christmas, Audiosurf, Borderlands, Plants vs Zombies for Christmas . . . yeah, WoW's not been at the top of my list.

I've been thinking for a while that I would like to do something, maybe have a little contest with a giveaway on the blog. I think people do it to get readers but I don't really care. I'd rather reward people who have been reading me all along.

Today I saw that Amnesia: The Dark Descent was on sale on Steam so I snagged a copy because it's a game I really wish more people played. What's Mine is Not Yours

Scugger left a comment on my previous post that I wanted to address today:

I need an opinion. Since the 4.3 patch dropped I've been aggressively selling gems, belt buckles, leg armor, mining and LW bags and some BS rods. My guildmates hae noticed and I have taken my gold holdings from 50K to about 250K. Now my guildmates are mad at me accusing me of forcing them to buy high priced gems and complaining that they cannot list anything themselves to make gold since I keep undercutting on all the goods I'm selling. What is the best way to handle this? I tried to explain that there were 20-25 other JC's competing and driving prices but the message did not seem to register with my GM.

This seems like a pretty unfortunate situation to find oneself in, and one that might not be too foreign to a few people.

People who win the lottery tend to complain that they have family members coming out of the woodwork looking for money. Likewise, if people feel their friends or guild members have a lot of gold they may feel entitled to some of it for some reason or another. It's your choice whether you want to give handouts, I'm going to assume you're someone who does not for the purpose of this post.

Avoiding the Issue in the First Place

The best way to avoid these types of people is just to avoid being a known gold maker. So, step one is don't write a gold blog. <_< If you do write a blog or post on a forum like the Consortium use an username that's not affiliated with your character or server so that people don't stumble upon the fact you're a gold maker.

This applies in-game as well. Roll alts with unrelated names and create your own guild bank so that people won't see their friend selling them a 400g Inferno Ruby. Avoid having people who aren't close friends on your RealID friends list to keep your alts secret.

Playing Nice with Friends and Guildies

If you are public about your gold making, as I am, or if you are "found out" what happens will largely depend on your relationship with these friends.

To avoid my friends thinking I'm Ebeneezer Scrooge unwilling to help others I offer services for free to friends and guild members. I'll cut gems, do enchants, whatever, for free. While it may cut out a potential sale it's a small amount in the grand scheme of things and often the good will ends up being reciprocated somehow.

That said, I don't give items away regularly. If Inferno Rubies are 400g and Mr. DPS didn't stockpile Inferno Rubies that's his problem, not mine. Think about living with roommates; while you may share a living space, generally speaking, your food is yours and they aren't entitled to it. If they can't make rent one month they may be able to rely on you for a bit of support but you're not their mother/father and you're not there to pay their way.

Do be kind, courteous, and within reason generous with offering free crafting. If you feel comfortable and confident doing so you may even offer to help them learn to make gold, or direct them to gold making resources. Never feel obligated to give away gold or items to those who are less market-savvy than yourself. If your friends are claiming they are entitled to your wealth or its products they are not your friends.

Gems: Selling an Item, Not a Service

First off, allow me to do a little dance in honor of this, my 200th post. /dance Okay, now on with the actual post.

With epic gems being so heavily gated at the moment the supply is very limited and prices are quite high. Now, as a relatively wealthy raider I've spent a fair amount of gold on these gems to give myself stat boosts here and there in my new gear.

But I have a problem, and it looks something like this:

Let's say I'm a frost DK. Frost DK's look for Strength/Haste with their orange gems, aka Fierce Lava Coral. While there are four orange gems for me to choose from on the AH three are completely useless to me. I have to buy the uncut piece for 9.8k if I want to buy a Lava Coral while the Fine, Reckless, and Deadly sellers have completely missed out on any opportunity to sell to me.

This is mostly a plea to those who have cut these Fine, Reckless, and Deadly Lava Corals and to any JC who is pre-cutting their gems to sell: Please don't.

I am currently in the market for two Queen's Garnet since I owe them to a friend who traded me some gems I needed on the first day of the patch. I would pay 10k each for these Queen's Garnets just to pay my friend back promptly. But I cannot because he is a warrior and everyone's pre-cutting their Queen's Garnets to Brilliant and selling them for 5,000g. That person could have had 10,000g per gem but instead, by pre-cutting their gem they missed out on every bit of my gold.

When there is a plethora of supply and JCs to cut that supply you are effectively selling the service; the gem is more expensive cut because anyone can go get an Inferno Ruby but not everyone can cut it.

When the supply is this low you are no longer selling the service. The service is an afterthought, a 10g tip in Trade for most people. The value is not in the cut or the profession to cut it, it's in the item itself. It's this value that you diminish drastically by cutting the gem. By pre-cutting a gem into anything you are narrowing your pool of potential buyers significantly and completely alienating many buyers like myself.

Please give a thought to this for any item you selll, but particularly for hard-to-come-by item enhancements and consumables like this. While cutting a gem isn't necessarily the worst idea it's important to recognize just what you may be doing to your buying pool by doing so.

Replica Dungeon Sets Sellable on the AH

Transmogrifiers and gold makers alike should enjoy this little gem. One of the goals of the Darkmoon Faire was to allow people to get retired models; namely the dungeon sets that used to drop in Stratholme and other endgame vanilla dungeons.

You're able to get the model of both the normal and the upgraded Dungeon sets from Barum and Baruma in the Darkmoon Faire. Barum sells the normal sets, Baruma sells the upgraded versions. This was great news to people like me who loved a few sets but didn't get around to farming them before they were removed.

The bad news is that they cost a lot of tickets.

Boots - 55

Gloves - 55
Belt - 55

Wrists - 55

Hat - 75

Pants - 75

Chest - 75

Shoulders - 75

So we're looking at 520 tickets for a full set. Bashiok has reported that the maximum amount of tickets a player can get from any Faire is 145 tickets. As I was told there are tickets in the PvP arena I believe that those who truly apply themselves or are very lucky may be able to get more, but not much more. If you're grinding this on one character it will take four months, and that's assuming this is your first priority and you're not after any of the neat mounts and pets.

What's a better option for impatient collectors? Get them from others! Each of these pieces is BoE. A player with enough alts can get an entire set in one month if they get all the tokens on every alt.

What's a better option for impatient collectors with a lot of gold? You. Gold makers can both farm these themselves on mains and alts if they don't care for the items, or even just look for items to flip if they appear on the AH.

A Tip

I would recommend focusing on the more visible pieces if you're buying some to put on the AH. Ideally you may want to seek out a buyer beforehand instead of betting on a certain set. If you do buy the pieces to put on the AH consider what is most visible. Most people will want the chest and shoulders of every set, but many may not see the rarely-visible wrists as an important piece to get. If the chest is a cloth set with a robe there's virtually no need to get pants. Keep these principles in mind when trying to figure out what pieces will be in highest demand.

Deathwing Down

WTFaid?: 4.3 Impressions

Welcome to another installment of WTFaid?, a semi-regular column in which I discuss things that might not directly impact gold making, but that I want to talk about nonetheless. If you're looking for gold-specific tips, check out my archive and blog roll! If you're looking to get some insight into the mind of Faid, God help you. Also, read on!

4.3 has arrived and raiders are finally able to kill Deathwing. There are new five mans, epic gems, a new Darkmoon Fair, and more! I have to say it: I'm really pleased with this patch. Here are some reasons why:

Five Mans

I haven't seen a new five man since Cataclysm release date. I did so much ZG and ZA before they were rehashed for Cataclysm that it was just more annoying trolls when they released Rise of the Zandalari. This was the first patch in a long time I felt I got a lot of new content for my non-raiding characters.

I really enjoy the new five mans. Most of the fights are interesting and have new or relatively new mechanics. Rarely can I explain a fight by saying "It's just like ____________ in ________ raid." like I'm able to do with so many other fights in the game. I felt the instances were quite fresh.

In fact, I've been so not-bored with the new five mans that I've actually sought out alts to gear up just to have some fun. My DK, Priest, and Shaman all went from 335-353 item level to 376 in the span of two days.

The Northrend Nerf

Another alt-friendly change is the nerf to Northrend leveling. It now takes less experience per level and they've moved a lot of quests inside the dungeons. Now when you zone in all of the quests which were previously outside and needed to be gathered before queueing are right there and several have even had new quests added; leveling in Northrend is now much quicker.

As a result I've also been leveling more alts again. I had four alts which had stagnated around Northrend but I've been enjoying dusting them off and playing them once more as well.

Transmogrification!

For Faid this won't be a big deal until next week. I want Faid to wear Season 11 and so I've not done much for her but have greatly enjoyed finding neat outfits for my alts. I'm not farming old stuff for that perfect piece but have been enjoying playing with pieces I do have on hand. Add to that the ability to transmogrify heirlooms, taking even more monotony out of alt leveling, and I love Transmog!

The New Darkmoon Faire

The first few times they nerfed Insane I raged pretty hard. I guess I've raged myself out and don't really care anymore, so the fact people can now daily their way to Darkmoon Exalted was an afterthought.

I thought they did a great job. Particularly with the deathmatch arena. Since it's just a big thing and there are achievements for it there's always a massive PvP free-for-all every three hours and I love watching and sometimes participating.

I've nearly got all the non-Deathmatch achievements and fished up my sea pony pet right away. I love this event, it's far and away better than the Argent Tournament and I think it's something I'll look forward to every month.

But what about raids?
I've had some ups and downs when thinking about the new raiding style. Looking for Raid is a joke to anyone with a pulse. As long as your tank knows where to put the boss and what way he needs to face him you'll win and get loot, it's that simple. I mused for a while that LFR was just teaching new or casual raiders exactly the opposite of what it should be: that you can ignore mechanics and no one will care and you'll one-shot the boss.

Plus many of the fights are altogether different due to the LFR changes. Yor'sahj the Unsleeping, for example, has a different kill order on the globules. In normal mode you need to kill Green as a top priority but in LFR mode you can ignore the green altogether.

I was under the impression that LFR was, as well as being a raid option for casual players, a way for guilds to learn2raid, for lack of a better term. I don't mind the easier bosses, but the fact that they're so easy mechanics can be entirely ignored makes me wonder how well it will prepare people for Normal modes.

Speaking of Normal modes, let's talk about LotI. I waited to make this post until tonight because I wanted to say I was 8/8 in the first week. I may still be if tomorrow goes well but currently we are only 7/8 and it's mostly my fault.

We steamrolled through the first four bosses, they were complete and total jokes. We ran into some issues on Ultraxion (Once again, my fault) because several of us just had some issues with the timing of when to leave the twilight realm. Once we got the swing of it though it was a bit of a tight DPS check but we made it through pretty easily.

The boat was kind of a hassle until we figured out that a hunter Flare down will keep Sappers from stealthing, then it was smooth sailing.

Spine of Deathwing was interesting. Not because the fight was difficult but because if we fell off the back due to silliness or a wipe being called we would be DCd. This ended up causing me to be unable to rejoin the raid after a wipe and we had to stop raiding that night while we waited for a GM to extract poor Faid from the nether.

We reconvened tonight, trounced Spine and moved on to Madness. This fight is actually really really boring for tanks. While the fight itself is interesting to watch and the mechanics are neat with all the aspects the actual tank job, when you get down to it, is laughably dumb. You tank a tentacle. When the tentacle casts the thing you pop a CD. Then the other tank tanks the tentacle and pops a CD when the tentacle casts the thing. Then you switch. Then you move to the other platform and do it again. Seriously, that's it.

So we spent the first hour or so just learning the fight and me doing my little taunt/CD thing. By the time we'd figured out what Aspect order we were using, what we needed to do and who needed to stand where I was so bored I began to really lose my focus. I think by the end of the night I'd wiped the raid about 5 times due to just zoning out with boredom and forgetting to use my cooldowns at the appropriate time. I'm really hoping that the Mists of Pandaria tank model changes fix these sorts of mind-numbingly boring fights.

So let me repeat that: We're 7/8 even after quite a few bad screw ups and being cockblocked out of a night by DC issues. In the first week of the content. Another guild on my server had killed Deathwing about 6 hours after the servers came up.

While there is still plenty of heroic content to chew through I can't imagine this is truly the last content patch. They have to introduce a filler (likely with epic gem transmutes/for honor/etc.) or there are guilds that will be farming this content for nearly a year, just as ICC was set up. So I anticipate filler content in a few months.

4.3 Is the Patch for Me!
All in all I'm very impressed with 4.3. It definitely revitalized my interest in the game which, while not gone, was fading slowly. I think they did a great job and I can't wait to quit writing this blog post and get back to playing.

There were going to be some cool raid screenshots I took but Blogger crapped out about uploading them, so maybe I'll edit them in later. Sorry for the wall of text in the meantime.

GCEs from Bountiful Bags

It only took eight months! For those who don't follow me on Twitter, why not? And also, you may not be aware I've been trying to keep people bumping my bug report since April. It seems that 4.3 has finally brought an end to the ordeal.

scu at the Consortium forums has posted that GCEs are now proccing from Bountiful Bags and I can now confirm it from my own experience. At the moment Inferno Rubies are too profitable to warrant making spikes to DE but I'm sure once that changes I'll be incredibly pleased over this long-time-coming fix.
