Rainbows on Sapphire Beach

We returned home on Monday night and decided to stroll down to the beach to see if we can catch something. As the sun started setting, a magnificent rainbow formed over Split Solitary Island. The turquoois water, the sunlight catching the top of the island and the headland next to us, and this massive, extraordinarily bright rainbow created a magical play of colours.

We only had the little Panasonic Lumix with us (in this place you never leave home without your camera). Sadly, I could not move back far enough to capture the entire, full bow. Two of them, actually!

I stood there at one stage thinking "this is what Heaven must look like".

The old mill in the beautiful historic Oatlands has recently been restored. Oatlands is considered to have the largest number of colonial sandstone buildings in any town in Australia.

Moonee Beach

Moonee Beach has a large estuary that pushes up inland for a few kilometers.

This part of the estuary is an easy 3 minute walk down the road from our house.

The best way to explore the estuary is by kayak.

Coffs Harbour Jetty

A giant sandcastle competition was held as part of the Festival Of Sails. The Jetty can be seen in the background.

Ryno and Kayla's school is called Jetty High. It is a short walk from there.

Lots to do around the jetty. Excellent selection of restaurants on the jetty strip. People taking a leisurely stroll or swimming, fireworks on New Years Eve. Or getting some adrenaline by jumping from it into the cool waters below..

My beautiful friend Ilse sent me these. She took them in Betty's Bay near Cape Town. Incredible how the deep blue of the ocean blends into the awesome blue sky! Now that the days in Tassie are getting shorter, it is impossible not to miss the African sun..

We awoke yesterday to yet another glorious Tasmanian summer's day. Our friends invited us to go sailing with them.

I have this strange connection with dolphins. Can't help seeing one without getting all emotional. Imagine our delight when three dolphins decided to come swimming with us! They were frolicking in front of the boat, riding the wave under the bow for nearly half an hour! They were not happy at all when we stopped to drop anchor :-(

Such a hard life being a sailor...

How fortunate we are to have such generous friends. Thanks guys, we had a whale of a time!

Hello Tasmania!

3 January 2010. The Spirit of Tasmania is floating silently into Devonport with a belly full of weary passengers from the mainland. We opened the door just in time to see the lighthouse. After an enjoyable but exhausting trip in the scorching heat of Victoria, we were delighted to be in the beautiful Tasmania again.

We spent New Year with the Winthrops in Healesville, Victoria. Healesville is one of my favourite little towns, surrounded by thick forest (it is near Marysville). It is a paradise where you find an abundance of wild things (Brad included ;-) and birds all the colours of the rainbow. Thanks Brad and Tracey, we had an absolutely awesome time!
