August is one of the merry months of the people of Davao. This is the month when the Kadayawan Festival is being held. There are many events during this festive occasion and no wonder, a lot of tourists flock in at this time of the year.

Conti's Bests!

My July 2011 scheduled trip to Manila to visit my friends is one unforgettable moment that happened in 2011. One major fact why it's deemed unforgettable? It's because it was the time I first visited Conti's Pastry Shop and Restaurant which is located along Greenbelt 2 in Makati CBD.

The moment I stepped into Conti's, I knew I'd love being there. Seeing the ambiance, being able to smell the aroma of foods being prepared, and watching over those pastries being displayed, I certainly knew Conti's is among the Philippine's bests. It took a while though before we got ourselves a table because of the many customers inside. When the food was being delivered to us, I was in awe! I loved how the foods are being served. Plus, they come in big servings! Take a look at some of the few recipes we ordered:

Mango Bravo Cake - highly recommended!

I feasted my eyes on while the foods were still in shape but later savored them all. They're all so yummy and delicious and I forgot about dieting that day.

For sure I'd be visiting Conti's again when I have my next visit to Manila.

Isla Reta - Talicud Island

Isla Reta is another good beach destination in Talicud Island. Crystal blue waters surround the place. A cool breeze with a sense of serenity can be attained in there. A good view of the shoreline is also breath-taking.

Accommodations/cottages can be rented out during the stay. There's a canteen there for some necessities. A videoke is also found in place. They also cater short orders for food. The resort personnel is very accommodating and is always ready to assist their guests.

Blue Waters is one of the best resorts in Samal Island. The finest blue waters, both on the seashore and in their infinity pools, is one trademark of this beach resort. It also boasts of good accommodation at reasonable prices. One more thing, they do not charge a corkage on food except for drinks. The resort sells drinks at reasonable prices too!

What I really like most about staying at Blue Waters is the serenity of the place, plus the cool temperature in it. It is never crowded. Thus, there's always a reservation made should one wants to visit and stay at Blue Waters.

I don't claim myself as a movie fanatic because I prefer music than movies but lately, I got addicted to downloading. Thanks to my friend who told me how to do it step by step. For the net book that I am currently using, I downloaded uTorrent. Once it's completed, I immediately browse on isohunt.com and there I was given a list of wonderful stuff for downloading. My greatest accomplishment on the art of downloading via uTorrent and Isohunt? I was able to complete the Harry Potter Film Series! So proud really for it!=) Now, I am still on the verge of downloading more movies and I should say that I am now enjoying the luxury of watching movies in my net book.=)

Eating @ Trellis 'N Vines

Guess what? I've been eating at Trellis 'N Vines thrice already since July 2011 kicked off. It must be the ambiance and the food that makes me want to go back there.

I once ate in their branch near Davao City High School sometime last year. Later I found out they have branched out to F. Torres, near Yahong Restaurant and I was told they also have one branch in Matina. With my going back there for three times already, I just can't resist having a taste of their Baby Back Ribs!:D It really got a wonderful taste plus it comes in a very saucy presentation. My mom even liked it so much when we were there last week because it's never hard chewing them. I also love their Crab and Corn Soup! Just one of the best soups I've ever tasted. They also have a chicken specialty served with yellow rice. I just forgot the recipe's name. :D

Talking about prices, Trellis 'N Vines offers quality foods at affordable rates. Customer service is also good plus I also love the ambiance inside the resto.

If you want to have a taste of Filipino and Asian cuisines, don't hesitate to try and visit Trellis 'N Vines!:D

Lovebohol Tours, The Best!

Two months before the scheduled getaway with friends last March 2011, I was a bit pressured because my two friends gave me full responsibility about our Bohol itinerary since accordingly, I am a frequent Bohol visitor. Well, I knew where to go and where to bring them but the itinerary as to how to do it very conveniently and comfortably for them, I wasn't that confident. It was for that reason that I was making queries online about some Bohol packages because what I really wanted is really the comfort and the convenience and not worry about those matters once we're already there.

With my queries, I found one tour agency. I just kept the number but never had the courage to ask for more queries. While browsing my Facebook account, I came across Lovebohol Tours. I found out the account is connected to a friend of mine that's why I didn't have hesitations. Immediately, I sent a message asking her bout some details. Maam Alou, the person behind the Facebook account is so accommodating and never fails to give you a quick response in your every query. I ended up having my own customized itinerary=Panglao Tour+ Countryside Tour with two hotel/beach accommodations. The price was actually just right!:D We got the total package for only 8770 in Philippine peso, good for three persons. After finally deciding we hire Lovebohol Tour's services, she asked for a 3k deposit so she could book us to our hotel/beach accommodation. I never had second thoughts because she actually posted the receipts as proof of bookings in her Facebook account. One more thing, Maam Alou also answers text messages so quickly and even calls you up when needed. She also informs her clients once a reservation has been made. We also made her aware of our flight details from Davao to Cebu.

A day before our flight, that was February 28, 2011, Maam Alou asked me if we already had our tickets for our Supercat trip from Cebu to Tagbilaran. I just told her we're still trying to find out if Supercat tickets are sold here in Davao City. She just told me if we can't make it, we should really contact her right away. To no avail, Supercat tickets aren't sold here even in their Superferry Terminal Offices. I informed her right away and she volunteered she'd do the reservation for us. Really so nice of her to assist us!:D

The flight going to Cebu was a bit delayed for like 30 minutes and she's again concerned about it. She told us to immediately head to the pier so we could catch the Supercat trip she reserved for us. When we finally arrived in Tagbilaran, we were fetched by a great ride and the journey to a wonderful escapade has began. Twas really a 2-day great, great escapades for us with good memories to treasure! We would not have achieved it without the full assistance of Maam Alou of LoveBohol Tours.

Darunday Manor - A Cheap Place To Stay In Tagbilaran

Prior to the trip we had last March 1-4, I made sure that our travel will make us more convenient. Thus, I was getting a head on the planning. Staying at Darunday Manor was actually part of the plan.

I personally chose Darunday Manor which is situated at Clarin Street in Tagbilarn because looking at the pictures, I already knew it will give us a homey feeling plus the fact that it's way too affordable for us. I also like the location because it's just situated at the heart of the city, a walking distance away from the cathedral and to many commercial establishments in the area.

When we arrived at the pension house on March 2, 2011, we were warmly greeted by the staff. We were then ushered to our reserved room - a twin bed accommodation, with a cable television, and a hot and cold shower. There's also a free breakfast as part of the accommodation, a major plus plus why we chose Darunday Manor. For an overnight stay, we only payed 1,300PHP.

Panglao Stay at Dumaluan Beach Resort

I'm a frequent visitor of my birthplace, Bohol, but it was my first time last March 1, 2011 to step foot at Dumaluan Beach Resort! Much more excitement was when it was confirmed that I'd be staying overnight there on the said resort. True enough, we were dropped straight to Dumaluan Beach Resort after our Panglao Tour.

Why Dumaluan Beach Resort? I personally suggested that we stay here mainly because we're all looking for a place where we can relax and be one with nature and more importantly, it's not crowded with people!;) When we reached the resort, we were immediately ushered to our room (we got the lowest price in the resort that can accommodate the three of us). I found the room very convenient at a low price. It's also fully air-conditioned with a big bed and an extra mattress for the three of us. I also like the resort's swimming pool and the beachfront! I super love the serenity of the environment. So quiet. So peaceful. So stress-relieving.

If I'd be given the chance to visit and stay overnight in Panglao again, I still would prefer Dumaluan Beach Resort. Yeah, Dumaluan it is!;)

Dencio's Sa Hilltop- Davao City

I've always wanted great memories to be spent with the people I love that's why as much as possible, in every occasion that we have in the family, I always try to think of where should we eat and how should we spend it. After all such memories do happen so rarely since my parents are always based in our hometown.

On my Mom's birthday, sometime in the 3rd week of March, it was me who suggested that we should dine at Dencio's Sa Hilltop. It wasn't my first time to be there though since I did visit the place for like a few times already. However, the choice of foods that they have is very much great especially the Filipino foods in store which can really satisfy our stomachs. What made me decide to pick on Dencio's Sa Hilltop is also the fact that it's on top of a high ground, with a cool breezy air to experience at all times, plus the fact that it also gets one a good glimpse overlooking the wonderful Davao City at night. ;)

Eat-All-You-Can Breakfast @ Taste of Malaysia Davao

One graveyard shift was over and guess what? I got so hungry after spending my tiring 8-hours at work! That only signifies that I should get breakfast sooner if I don't want to nurse my I-guess-progressing-ulcer. I don't wanna go home very hungry after a graveyard shift and I don't want to have a hungry stomach whenever I sleep!

Thank GOD, the Eat-All-You-Can Breakfast @ Taste of Malaysia has been created! This really saves me from becoming hungry. This is actually an egg-filled breakfast because you can choose how you want your eggs to be made. My choice? I always choose Scrambled Egg with Cheese Cubes because I'm so much into cheese when it come to foods! Plus, you can also get hard boiled eggs at the counter as an addition to your egg meal.;) There's also a soup recipe along with other meat recipes of at least 2-3 viands for breakfast which has been a part of their Breakfast Buffet. I also love their bread. You can toast it just right there and spread butter on it. Another personal craving? It's Maja Blanca! I get to consume many slices of it. However, it's not always available everyday because they have certain foods in variety which they can be made available from time time.

The price? It's so much affordable! This Eat-All-You-Can Breakfast only costs P50! Yes, it's only fifty pesos which is so, so affordable!;)

If you wanna try breakfast at Taste of Malaysia, you can visit the place along Lanang Road going North of Davao, which is just near the Jetti Gasoline station, fronting the soon-to-rise, SM City Lanang. ;) I heard that there's also a Lunch and Dinner Buffets happening everyday at Taste's and that's still to be figured out soon.

So what are you waiting for? Experience breakfast at Taste of Malaysia along Lanang, Davao City and your breakfasts will never be the same!;)

Experience Paradise Island Beach Resort

Paradise Island Beach Resort in Samal Island is one of the best trademarks in Samal. It is seemingly one of the famous beaches around since it existed many years ago. The beach itself boasts of its fine white sand with crystal blue waters. Rates are so affordable that anybody who wishes to go there can instantly be there without having much to worry about the fees. Paradise Island is a few minutes away from Davao City.

Medical Scrubs, I Want!

I am always fascinated watching medical professionals in Grey's Anatomy wearing wonderful medical scrubs. They look good on it especially their blue-colored medical scrubs. It looks so comfy on them even if they're at their busiest hours and yet they still look good even under pressure.

If I were to work in the United States as a medical professional, I'd sure I'd be getting medical scrubs for work. I'd like to have a variety of it in different styles and in different colors. In this way, working would certainly be a lot easier compared to our old-fashioned white uniform.

But reality sucks! I am still wearing a standard white uniform which I found so uncomfortable. There were suggestions about wearing medical scrubs at work but the authority still opted to wear the old-fashioned white uniform. Now I can't really wait to work outside of the country and buy scrubs on my own which I knew is the standard uniform for hospital personnel.

Karl's Koffee Korner - Davao

With the rise of coffee shops here in Metro Davao, I still find myself being so attached to Karl's Koffee Korner. I remembered it was a few years ago when I first had a taste of their coffee in Jack's Ridge, then later became a frequent visitor of their Buhangin Branch inside the vicinity of Shell Station-Buhangin, til it moved to Lanang, Davao City that lasted for a few months. Now on its present location for many months in Dakudao Avenue, I still find time to go and visit Karl's Koffee Korner.

What's really with Karl's?

For one, I really like the ambiance, the environment, and it's not jampacked with people. You can just witness people talking (not-loud-talks), the music perfectly fits the place, plus, it's a WiFi-hotspot and majority of the people have laptops with them, either researching, chatting, or just facebooking.

I'm not really a super coffee fanatic but I've tasted Karl's classic coffees and they tasted great! I'm also a big fan of their frappes and perhaps I've already tasted them all. I also like their french fries because they're not expensive but they serve big time, and in two different flavors to choose from. They also got an array of mouthwatering cakes too!

It's really no wonder why I keep coming back to Karl's despite the many new coffee shops found in the city.

Surigao Adventure 2010: Enchanted River (Part 3)

It was already 2:00PM when we headed to our last stop of our Surigao visit---> The Enchanted River. We traveled for like 30 minutes before we reached the spot. We're surprised because a lot of people were there to savor the beauty the nature has brought the Surigaonons.

Just as we arrived the place, we were like kids on the loose! We immediately took a pose on Enchanted River's landmark and took some pics.

After taking some pics, we immediately changed to our swimming clothes and off we went swimming, and testing the green-blue waters of the river. The water's gone cold but somehow, it was tolerable. We even had our life jackets on because the water is too deep!

We spent like almost three hours just swimming til it was time for us to head back to Davao. But before we left the place, we again took our group picture as our remembrance.

The entire Surigao Escapade that happened only on November 26, 2010 is very unforgettable and will forever remain in our hearts. It's an escapade worthy to be treasured and will always be a part of my OB Ward experience.

Surigao Adventure 2010: Maomawan Islet Visit (Part 2)

Aboard on two convoy vans, RTours led us to another significant and beautiful spot in Hinatuan, Surigao which is the Maomawan Islet. When we reached Hinatuan proper (where we'll be taking our lunch), we were immediately ushered to a motorized pump boat that will take us to the islet. It was a 15-minute cruise along the sea waters of Hinatuan. We're gone tired and sleepy but within us, we're still overruled with excitement as to what's in store for us at Maomawan. Along the course of the trip, we're all so silent and some even took a nap. Oh well, it's not even possible to talk when I, myself was situated near the motor that runs the boat and what I could only hear was the loud noise coming from it! *grin* To pass away boredom, we just took some pics.

Of course, who couldn't resist taking pics right away on the beach front where the fine, white sands are all over the place? We took advantage of the time and the place itself and we got a loooot of pictures again!:D

We only stayed there for about 3o minutes. We didn't even swim because all became so hungry and can't wait for lunch.

We took another 15-minute ride back to Hinatuan Proper and surprisingly, lunch was served! It was really a feast to have unlimited crabs, shrimps, and rice (plus softdrinks) for lunch!

After more than an hour, we got inside the van again and we're on to our next final stop: a visit to the Enchanted River (still a part of Hinatuan municipality).

Surigao Adventure 2010: Tinuy-an Falls (Part 1)

Who would have thought that busy people like us could still get together for at least a day, away from the demands of our work? Thanks to RTours, for the assistance made from transportation, food, and even on touring us around the famous spots in Surigao, making all of it possible for us.

It was midnight of November 26 when we convened ourselves in DMC Canteen waiting for our ride that will take us to Surigao del Sur. We're all so excited even at the brink of dawn because of that anticipated long distance adventure. It was 2:00 AM when we left Davao City bound for Bislig, still a part of Surigao. It took 4-5 hours before we reached Bislig for breakfast. It was 7:00 AM when we tasted Surigao's pride for breakfast - Sinugbang Isda, Bulalo, Piniritong Isda - all of which are good for the palate.

After breakfast, we immediately paved our way to the Niagara Falls of the Philippines - the Tinuy-an Falls! Upon reaching the place, I personally got so amazed of it at first sight even from afar!

As we got in the premises, we got so awed with the view and we took pictures (and a looooot of them!).

Not satisfied with the view, we drew nearer the falls until we're ushered to take many steps up to be closer to the beauty of nature. And this is what we got up there.

We so enjoyed the beauty at the top and we spent hours just having fun!

We left Tinuy-an Falls with so much joy in our hearts but before the act of leaving, these peeps did try to ride on the raft and went under the biggest falls at Tinuy-an. ;)

It was almost 11:00AM when we left Tinuy-an Falls but every moment spent there will always stay forever in our hearts!:D

After every tiring day tours during our Palawan escapade last November 2010, we're just lucky enough that we stayed for two (2) nights in a great yet affordable accommodation at Ysabelle Mansion in Puerto Princesa City. We got a Family Room good for 6 pax with free breakfast. The location itself boasts of a quiet environment that will surely give a good rest for every tourist who wants to retire after a very tiring Palawan escapade done during the day. The air-conditioned room itself is great with a private toilet and bath equipped with a hot and cold shower. A cable television is also provided for entertainment. The price we've paid is "sulit"!:)

Palawan 2010 Adventure Day 2: Island Hopping @ Honda Bay

November 9, 2010 was Island Hopping Day in our Palawan 2010 Itinerary. As early as 7:00AM, the van fetched us and took us to the port where it will lead us to Honda Bay. It's already past 9:00AM when we arrived at the port after a series of stopovers in the city, and guess what? we've gone sooooo excited! After paying the fees and some negotiations, off we went exploring the Honda Bay Islands!

First Stop: LuLi Island

Since it's way too hot and our skin might get burned, we religiously put on an ample amount of sunblock on our skin. After a few minutes, we reached LuLi Island- the island that can't be seen from afar when there's a high tide but becomes visible during low tide, thus where the name of the island was derived from. Accordingly, this is a privately owned island and we saw caretakers there. We payed a 50-peso entrance fee and we explored the island. The island is so quiet with calm waters surrounding it. We took pictures and stayed there for a few minutes. Special thanks to the boatmen for taking pics and for giving great ideas in photography. :)

Second Stop: The Starfish Island

After staying for quite some time at the LuLi Island, we next headed to the Starfish Island. We're not so surprised anymore why it's named as the Starfish Island. Even before disembarking the boat, we already saw plenty of starfishes on clear sea waters. After paying our 50-peso entrance fee, we readily took some pictures. We even took some starfishes out of the water and made them as props in our photos, however we have to return them back after a while so they'd still be alive.

Since we've grown so hungry and could no longer bear the scorching heat of the sun, we decided to go to our next stop: The Snake Island.

Third Stop: The Snake Island

No, there are no snakes in the island just like the starfishes at the Starfish Island!;) Kidding aside, it's named as the Snake Island because of the beautiful snakey stretch of its beachfront!:)

Certainly, this is really my best pick among the four island included in the Island Hopping Package we got. After disembarking from the boat, we immediately look for a vacant cottage and settled ourselves there. And take note, this is the only island with cottages in it and this is the only island where foods can be cooked. Good thing, the boatmen did the cooking at an extra fee while we loitered ourselves on the island. Again, we took pictures! After getting the signal that lunch was ready, we went back to our cottage. We had an indeed burpy lunch with seafoods in stores for us. After an hour, we had our snorkeling stint. Using our rented snorkeling gears, we fed the fishes using the loafs of bread we bought just meant for them. It was soooo amazing having to see them all in different colors! The island is so rich with those type of small creatures! They would even tickle your feet, lol!;) We spent many hours until it was time for us to move to the fourth and last stop of the getaway which is the Pandan Island.

Fourth Stop: Pandan Island

It took a few minutes before we finally reached Pandan Island. This time, the sun became so friendly and we had the time to swim. I simply adored the fine, white, sands in the island. It was nearing high tide that's why we enjoyed swimming. We only stayed here for a few minutes since it's almost 5pm.

The entire Island Hopping was so 'SULIT'! I did enjoy every minute of it spent with friends. Indeed, it's one unforgettable experience worth keeping!;)

Visiting KaLui Restaurant - Puerto Princesa, Palawan

After a very exhausting, yet a very enjoyable trip at the Underground River, we headed back to Puerto Princesa City and decided to reward our palates with a very satisfying power packed dinner. This time we decided not to patronize the usual value meals offered by famous fast food chains nationwide and instead opted to go to a famous Palawan restaurant, grabbing this once-in-a-lifetime adventure in a different place. After setting our things at the Ysabelle Mansion (our official residence which is to be posted in another blog entry), we prepared ourselves up and went out for dinner. We never had an idea of where to go, hence, we asked the front-desk where is the best place to eat in the city. We even asked some tricycle drivers and KaLui Restaurant is the same answer we're getting from them. After a few minutes of traveling, we finally reached the said restaurant which is situated in Rizal Avenue. At first sight, I knew I was reminded of a Philippine home. It is actually a wooden house with clean and well-polished floors. We were greeted by the friendly staff when we arrived. Surprisingly, we were told to take off our foot wears and they were neatly place in small lockers. I personally got amazed with the whole set up inside. We chose the area near the window with many pillows all over. We ordered the their Choice Catch served with veggies of the day (which is the amazing friend talong) with rice along with Tuna Steak, Fish Cordon Bleu, Shrimps, and a Blue Marlin. We also added Sizzling Seafood Sisig. We tried the Dragon Fruit Shake and it tasted so awesomely! I did enjoy dining at KaLui's! Definitely one of Palawan's best attractions/dining place for everyone!

Palawan Adventure 2010: Day 1

I knew this has been a long overdue post but because of time constraints, I have this posted late. Please bear with me for it.

Our Palawan trip was quickly planned. We only arranged it for like one month, and the communication for negotiations were only done online. Thanks to our friend who's based in Australia for taking charge of the planning - our fare, accommodation, and package trips! The five of us were all excited for that anticipated 3-day trip!

All five of us headed to the Davao International Airport on November 7, 2010, despite one friend who was sick at that time who's still set to go. Originally, we're set to leave Davao for Manila via Airphil Express at 8:00PM. However, it was delayed because of the rainy Manila weather and was set to 11:45 PM. We were even told that we no longer had our seats to that said flight because we arrived late during the boarding time though we managed to line up to the check-in counter earlier before the closing time. We patiently waited for hours until such time that we're informed that we'll be accommodated on PAL's Davao-Manila flight as chance passengers which will leave at 10:00PM, earlier than Airphil Express. Without much hesitations, we took the PAL flight instead and yours truly was lucky enough to get a Mabuhay Class accommodation which I later offered to my sick friend. It was past almost midnight when we reached Ninoy Aquino International Airport. We took a cab and stayed in a hostel near the airport, to make ourselves comfortable before our early morning flight bound for Palawan. Around 6AM in the morning of November 8, we immediately headed to NAIA 3 for our domestic flight bound for Palawan. We took our breakfast at the airport shortly after we finished checking in. Funny cos we almost lost the flight after taking too much time to eat and had our umbrellas checked in (we thought umbrellas can be part of our hand-carried baggage). My friends who got back to the check in counter to include those umbrellas in the checked in baggage had to run as fast as they could so they wouldn't be able to miss the flight. Thank GOD, they arrived just in time at the pre-boarding area. It was exactly 8AM when we left Manila bound for Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. It was a one hour flight and I was surprised that it was raining at the island when we arrived at 9:00AM. Good thing, Airphil Express had their umbrellas for us. We took the chance to take pictures with the aircraft as the background while we're using those orange umbrellas provided.

From the airport, we're fetched by the van we hired that will take us immediately to our first tourist destination: Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park. Prior to the 50km travel going to Sabang, we stopped by at a certain government office that will give us the permit to visit the Underground River. After getting our permits, we're set to go! It was really one hell of a ride because of the many zigzag roads plus the fact that we're just done with our flight (some were still on a jet-lagged mode!). Personally, I was nauseated at that time and my friends did vomit! The driver ran the van too fast because according to him, we should be there in Sabang at lunch time. True enough, we reached Sabang, the gateway to the Underground River at about lunch time. Fees have been paid first before we took our buffet lunch that costs P200. After lunch, we were immediately guided to the boat, that will take us to the Underground River. We really enjoyed the boat-ride for how many minutes as our eyes feasted on the wondrous naturey sights as we passed by them while traveling. We finally reached mouth of the Underground River and we're welcomed by photographers and co-tourists. Then we're being ushered to the mouth of the cave where the Underground River is located. And yes! I personally got amazed with the beauty of nature in there! Too glad we had a boatman who get to speak in Cebuano and we got along well with him all throughout our 4.5 km boat ride inside. We got so many pics there however sad to note that we lost the camera we've been using as our official camera for the entire getaway to some dishonest people!

After that afternoon trip to the Underground River, we headed back to the city and we've grown so tired that we slept during the 50km ride back to Puerto Princesa. We were dropped at the Ysabelle Mansion, our official residence during our Palaway Getaway Adventure! We dined at KaLui's before we finally called it a day!
