If you don't know already about the launch of www.wolframalpha.com than I will tell the news, these guys who made it call it "computational knowledge engine", in the front page you are given the impression that it "does everything in all directions".

They clearly say what their engine is not, it is not Google, it is not a search engine, and it is not a Google killer neither. Actually many many people arround the world are just waiting for the "Google killer" to come one day and break the mono-web search owned by Google, the last attempt to "kill Google" was Cuil the total failure, anyway it made such a big buzz those days that I wrote an article about it.

Wolfram doesn't precise how the data is processed, and for which purpose, it has a very large and blure vision that you may not understand right the way, not even in days for my case.

The open text area on the front page gives the temptation to write anything and still expect results, so as a normal human being I begun with myself, I typed my first name "Haroun" and oops, they don't have anything about me :(

What I realised later that it does many things such as : solving equations, drawing graphs, getting and comparing stock quotes...

Their data they get it from experts in different domains, here I clearly prefer Wikipedia which is an open encyclopedia which is highly reliable and has in it a lot more than what Wolfram experts can possibly give.

I think Wolfram is another useless buzz that wasted some of my time typing these words. I don't care how complicated and advanced are its computations, I only see it as an unreliable encyclopedia, and a tool that might take down Microsoft Excel.

Facebook and the third person

There is no doubt Facebook is facing lots of success and booking more and more users, with about half a million new members every day (upon recent numbers) it is definitely the super star of the internet these days.

One of the most interresting features at Facebook is the "What's on your mind?" thing, you type something in a text box, you press "Share", and your saying is accorded after your full name. For example I type "is watching TV" and it appears like this "Haroun Boutamani is watching TV".

Hundreds of millions of people arround the world are "sharing" "what's on their mind", this simple idea of a text box and a button is having huge success and here a question stroke me: "Why is it so popular?"

I believe the answer lays exactly in that part of human ego where you like to speak about yourself in the third person, this is a sophisticated way to be narcissic and almost nobody notice.

Actually I have read about a therapists asking his patients in a remarquable way, instead of saying "How are you today?", he says "How is (first name) today ?", and it seems that on a psychological level it works better for pushing the person into an expression.

Facebook is putting that box in the front of it's home page making it easy for people to express themselves in the third person, this unjudged narcissisme, in my opinion, will be driving facebook to more success.

I was searching for a free web host, and among the first 20 results I had this 000webhost(dot)com , I have registred and I was asked to download a certain file that was supposed to give me site information.

That file contains a trojan, so beware from opening an account at that site.

At some Technology conference in California, within a crowd of most influent people of the tech industry Bill Gates unleashed a number of mosquitoes in the room.

His point was to make the attendees more aware of the danger of Malaria, a desease mainly transported by those mosquitoes.

He told the crow that the ones he unleashed were malaria free.

Bill isn't used on doing real cool things like this, so well done Bill, it wasn't as bad as unleashing Vista !

Incorrect Exchange Rate in AdSense paiments

Most of AdSense publishers who will receive paiments these days must have noticed under their "Paiment details" page a clear mistake in the exchange rate.

Publishers from arround the globe are reporting this, for Indians 1 US Dollars : 1 Indian Rupee, for the UK guys 1 US Dollars : 1 GBP, and so on for every other currency.

One member of the DigitalPoint community forums has posted a message that he received earlier from AdSense team, here is the message he posted :

Deep digging in keywords' sphere

Choosing the right keywords is a crucial step for the success of a website, or an advertising compaign.

With many SEO solutions emerging I have seen that I could add something useful, a keyword discovery tool, that will give a wider view into what people are searching for.

So I begun coding SEOKeywords a few days ago, starting from suggestions given by Google to each keyword I have built an anlgorithme I like to describe as "generous". Generous because from the few searches I tried on Google Keyword Tool and the free of charge WordTracker, I have noticed that SEOKeywords returns more results. For now the tool works best with shorter search queries, the longer your search gets the fewer are your chances of getting a suggestion.

When you search for a keyword on SEOKeywords.110mb.com you will be given suggestions all provided by Google, which means what users actually searche for.

Mess in US flights because of FAA computer problems

Computer problems at FAA computers (Federal Aviation Administration) cause mess in the aviation within the United States.

The problem is identified in flight planning which caused delays for flights in several airports accross the US.

Some CNN aviation expert said "This is really not a safety issue, this is an aggravation issue".

I am not some expert in airports' software but I think it won't be worse than Microsoft Excel that makes calculating mistakes : D

iPhone Pwnage tool 2.0.3 available

Happy news today for iPhone and iPod touch crowd, the new Pwnage tool 2.0.3 has been released less than 15 hours ago.

iPhone dev team said on it's (official unofficial) blog "Happy Update Day!", I admit these are good news but the day won't be so happy because about ten hours later they add a new post with the title "Swatting...", it is about troubles with the iPod touch. I understand that they give more importance to iPhones than to iPod touch, anyway we should wait for the next release.

knlwrap.exe - information and removal

Many people are complaining about knlwrap lately, most of Antivirus set a warning on it.

Unconfirmed information says knlwrap.exe is a keylogger, keyloggers are malicious software that record every keystroke you make on your computer including : passwords, credit card numbers... and then sends this data to people you don't want them to have it. Knlwarp is not confirmed yet to be a keylogger, but we know it is a risk.

For removal I suggest you perform a search for "knlwrap.exe" on your system hard drive (usually it is found on the path ..\program files\common files\installshield\engine\6\intel32\ , the file size on Windows XP is 126976 bytes), once found delete it, if you are unable to delete it that is may be because it is already running so open the "Task Manager" look for knlwrap.exe and kill the proccess.

It is necessary also to make a registery cleaning, I recommand CCleaner you can download it at www.CCleaner.com .

How to create a "Top Queries Cloud" with PHP

For site owners who would like to add a very important feature to their sites.
The Cloud represents the search queries you want visitors to notice. It is a number of links to a search results page, whether you are using your own search engine, a Google Custom Search, or you want to link to an exterior search engine in this post I will give you a fully detailed tutorial and code for creating the Cloud.

This code I will put here is in PHP, you don't need to be some kind of super genius to apply it ! I am not genius neither for making it !

The main particular thing about Queries Clouds is the different size between different queries, this is proved to have a great effect to attracting visitors, that will increase your chances of visitors clicking on the queries.

We will make three different PHP files and one SQL query for the table .

- query_treat.php : it will take care of getting the searched query and inserting it into the database, with counting the most searched queries. This file you must include it into the search results page. If you your cloud will link to an exterior search engine for which you don't have access to the results page you will have to fill the database manually or anyway you chose.

- show_cloud.php : will read the queries from the database and show in the magic way you saw on my site.

- cloud_config.php : has the config inside it, such as database access details and cloud's preferences.

Android, I love it already

Google made another huge step in tech world, the all new Operating System for mobile phones Android is launched. The FCC ( Federal Communications Commission - US ) has approved Android in the last days, which means it can be officially used and commercialized on cell phones.

I love the whole Google spirit, I am tracking G's moves ever since I discovered how efficient it was : I am reading blogs, internet news, watching documentaries, and there are things I'd like to share with you :

- The founders don't care much about money.
- Google is oriented into scientific development, open source software, and charity.
- Employees at Google are appreciated (Best Place To Work, According To Fortune Magazine), and genius ideas are welcome.

And now comes Android, and guess what : it is open source. The Android developement kit is totally downloadable (the link in the bottom), and I can't wait to see where the imagination of creative coders will go, there was even a challenge for developers with $10 million cash prizes. I love the fact that there is so much money put between young fresh talents, I love the fact that a company with such big presence in tech world goes for open source, and I love the fact that this is happening in the mobile phone industry.

Android 0.9 Beta SDK

I am downloading the 84 Mb ZIP file, it is supposed to have an easy and simple developing interface, emulator, debugger, documentation and everything. Download hasn't finished as I type, I might write a review about it if I see it is worth it. If you are a developer go get one for your own it's free (link in the bottom).

But iPhone has a "Developer Program"
Yes yes, but being "open" isn't really Apple's thing. You would know that if you knew Apple, or have heard about iPhone's hacks that were distributed by independent hackers, and the upgrade (official) software that blocks every hacked iPhone.

Anyway, iPhone Developer Program is sold for $99 the Standard Program, and $299 for the Enterprise Program, there is a free SDK but it must be very limited comparing to two paid onces.

How about iZune ?

Microsoft's Zune (music player) was seen as the "imitation" of the iPod, after the launch of the iPhone there was some buzz about Microsoft launching a phone device, they said they won't, but today the competition is even hotter, Google is on the mobile phone field, and it would be lame if M stays apart from the 3G world. To be honest I am not quiet excited by Microsoft doing it, but a little more competition won't hurt.

Android and privacy

Google always gets the worst scores when it comes to privacy. All these free Google software and services track you down to the least move, they say it is done to deliver better ads relevancy, but many people don't like it.
The big question now is : How about privacy in Android ?
This thing reminds me all the spying movies/series where some "agency" puts "something" into the cell phone, and "hooobla" they track the moves, listen to calls, read messages and everything, is Google gonna do this to you ?
I see two sides of the answer : 1- Android is open source (privacy may be kept by independent developers), 2- Tracking you down is Google's thing.But It is still early to answer this question.

Visitors of Digg.com must have seen on the home page of the site an advertising for "a thicker fuller-looking hair" with a before-n-after picture of a bold guy and what a beautiful full hair he got after using the product.

Come in Digg guys! We are living the age of relevant ads, this means super algorithms making matches between advertisers and customers, some companies record each byte their users down/upload to give them relevant ads and the best you could put on your home page is that ???

I don't know how much those ads can earn for you but I'm sure you can find better.

Just don't suggest (all) Diggers are bold. No offense to the bold onces.

AdWords seminars now given on 3 levels

AdWords team has announced today the three levels of their seminars. These seminars are for advertisers who wish to make the most of their AdWords account.

They are available only within the US, new cities were included lately such as : Houston, New York City Area, Atlanta and Charlotte, North Carolina is promised to be add soon.

Monetize your Feeds, AdSense has made it

When I logged into my Adsense page today, and under the "Adsense Setup" tab I have noticed a new image : it is the colorful one you see on top. Feeds' universal logo with Google's famous colors. It is Adsense that launched a new way to monetize : Adsense for feeds. So let's go inside it.

It is available to every Adsense publisher with a site/blog that delivers feeds. The new feature has been launched after Google has acquired FeedBurner.com .

Overview on Feeds

The importance of feeds is to keep your visitors up to date with your new posts, that will guarantee you readability and visitors loyalty. Feeds content is usually very simple, no complicated or heavy content.

Start publishing Ads on Feeds

Click on "AdSense for Feeds", you will see a form about your feeds and the preferences of publishing Ads like : ad type, frequency of appearance, post length and the position of the ads. You have no control over the size of the ad, and the name you can edit it later under "Manage Ads" area. There is also the choice of colors or letting them be automatically chosen, and of course channels can be add.

Now it is time to "Burn a Feed", click on that, you will be asked for the URL of your Blog or Feed. After entering the URL and clicking "Next" your Blog or Feed will be scanned and will be given choices upon your situation. The next step is defining the title, the address, and the language, usually they are already set.

Click "Next", now comes an important step but don't worry we will go for it nice and easy.

Redirect your Feeds

The idea is to set your Feeds redirected to FeedBurner, you must sign up for an account on FeedBurner.com unfortunately they don't accept Google Accounts, on the main page enter your Blog or Feeds address and than fellow the simple registration steps. After doing that I suggest you these detailed answers and step-by-step tutorials for : Blogger, WordPress, TypePad, MySpace, and Podcasting .

Fellow the steps that work with your blog software, if your blog software is not listed among the past five onces contact your supplier.

Useful FeedBurner stuff

This my first use of FeedBurner and I find it quiet interesting, so I've chosen for you my favorite promotional tools :

The chicklet : this is not an option, if you want your visitors to subscribe to your feeds you must put something on your pages to invite them to, this where FeedBurner makes it easy, after you sign in your FeedBurner account go to "Publicize", then on the left side click on "Chicklet Chooser", you will have a wide choice of stuff you can put on your blog.

PingShot : it is about telling some sites when you post something new, some sites like Technorati, My Yahoo, Google Blog Search and more, it is very useful to promote your content. This feature is inactive by default.
Email subscription : a less popular tool because of the spam paranoïa but still useful, this service is by default inactive, once you activate it, you can choose how emails will be delivered, than you will be given a piece of code to put on your site.

What is left is to see how much am I going to earn from this, I am optimistic : )

Top 7 things not to do with Google Adsense

If you have an Adsense account and you are interested in raising your revenue you must have read a number of articles about what you should do, the kind of articles with the title "Top 10 tips to do...", some of these tips really work if you give them the necessary time and attention, but I decided to gather 7 things you shouldn't absolutely do when you are part of the Google Adsense program. If you commit one of these "7 major sins" that may decrease your revenue, cause the loss of payments, or in the worst case being banned from the program forever.
So let's start from the worst :

7 - Don't click on your own ads

Seriously, don't think you are very smart and do it. Don't click directly on them.If you think the only way Google can notice fraudulent clicks is the IP of the clicking computers, you are wrong, so don't use IP changers and still click on your own ads.

Sometimes you may need to see the site behind the ads, whether you are just curious or you want an URL to put under the "Competitive Ad Filter", in either cases don't click, do yourself a favor and start a new tab/window and type in the address, if it is not a text ad or the URL isn't clear I suggest you read this article : https://www.google.com/adsense/urlfilter#finding .

6 - Don't use auto-clickers

Don't use codes/programs that click automatically after a period of time, don't use the same codes/programs with random periods of time.Don't use codes/programs that click automatically when a visitor comes in, you may think it is smart to make it click on limited number of visits and not on each visit, that ain't smart too.

5 - Don't make others click on your ads if they are not interested in them

On some sites we see beside the ads banners phrases like "Support our site by clicking here" or "Favorite sites", don't use it, just let the visitors notice the ads and click on them voluntarily, it is believed that internet users have "developed" a sense that notices ads and divert their intention away from them. It is crucial for your success in this field to make ads "seen" and "clickable", but let clicking be a volunteer action.

Some people make others click voluntarily on their ads, others like partners, co-workers, friends, family members. This type of activity can be flagged by their algorithms.

4 - Avoid repetitive words and irrelevant keywords/content

It is an old trick that was used to improve sites' ranking (SEO spam), also used for Adsense fraud. The concept is to increase the presence of certain keywords within the body and meta tags of the page with the hope to get better paying ads. I don't recommend you use this way for either Adsense and Search Engine Optimization, because you will eventually be banned from either affiliate programs and search engines, and that is bad my friend !

3 - Don't make your Adsense Account part of your usual Google Account

Most of people may use the same Google account for everything : Adsense, Adwords, Blogger, Gmail... I don't think it is wise to do so. It is important for you to know that if you have a problem with anything associated to your Google account that will effect your Adsense account associated with it, Google reserves the right to disable your account.I have a story of someone who had an Adwords and Adsense account under the same Google Account, once his Adwords' balance became zero, and had no active credit card under Adwords his Adsense account got blocked, he was told that to get his account reinstated he must add a new card and make a payment to Adwords.The summary is : don't take the risk, make a Google account for Adsense, and another one for everything else. Anyway if you haven't yet associated your Adsense account to any Google account you should do that soon, that's what the Adsense.blogspot.com says.

2 - "Don't mail me checks with ordinary mail"

Receiving checks via ordinary mail is your worst option. Checks are often lost this way, and even if Google can reissue the check for you I don't recommend you use it. Checks may be lost forever, or if reissued you will loose time.

In most of developed countries EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) is available, it is the best option. If you don't have it in your country I recommend you use Secure mail delivery, checks are usually sent via DHL and the whole process is fast and secure, this will cost you $29 cut from the grand amount of the check but I personally think it's worth it, an extra feature is that under your payments' page you will be given the DHL code with which you can track the trip of your package, use it on http://www.dhl.com/, it provides accurate details on where and when your check landed.

In a number of countries it is almost impossible to withdraw a check issued from Citibank (United States), like where I live for instance : Algeria.I have contacted Adsense team late 2006 and suggested they add Western Union as a payment option, they did (yeah they took my advice), but unfortunately it is not yet available in my country. 1 - Don't fool with Adsense code

It is known that Adsense revenue has declined for most of publishers ever since Google reduced the clickable space of the ad. In the past every pixel of the ad space was clickable, but now only titles and URLs are. This change reduces the number of accidental clicks and it reduces clicks and revenue for publishers but protects Adwords advertisers and gives more credibility for the whole advertising program.

The bad thing that you shouldn't do is "breaking" the code, the idea is that if you put the ad unit code all as one line, no nl between different lines the ad will look ugly but fully clickable.

This is not a tutorial on how to cheat ! Ok ? It is just another you shouldn't waste time on trying.

Google Adsense made a lot of noise on how much money you can make from just putting a code on your site. Google is dominating the online advertising business, and there is no doubt in the results that count in $ billions.

We hear about people who make their living without leaving their house "while still in pyjamas" some site said.

I am so curious to know how much REALLY people like you are making from this program, so there is no better way to know than a poll.
