O.K., I have to say it:

“Google Adsense blows chunks.”

Now, maybe I offended a few people here but there’s definitely easier ways to make coffee change online.

None of these ways involve Google Adsense which is basically ancient history…

But why am I putting down Google Adsense specifically?

Simply because Google Adsense takes up valuable advertising space on your websites you could use for high ticket affiliate products or even “baby” affiliate products like Yanik’s Instant Sales Letters that have a great conversion rate.

By the way, I highly recommend you get Yanik’s product even if you just use it to make some money on your blog. It only takes a few sales to pay for itself and it’s totally one of the easiest ways to get started with copywriting.

But enough self promotion, we’re talking about making you money.

And Google Adsense is not the way to go…

But don’t confuse Google Adsense with Google Adwords which is a “crazy good” way to make money if you can avoid the Google “Slap”, “Bodyslam” or “Pedigree”. Yeah, how can you tell I had the TV on last night? Gosh…

Anyhow, I bet you would like to make a little more money while you’re getting your business up and running. And maybe you’re wondering how to do that.

Honestly, I can’t think of an easier way to make money online than to get into affiliate marketing. At least, in a small way.

You might already be an affiliate and not even know it.

Because almost every product you buy online has a program where they reward you for selling their products by giving you a small commission. Some products only payout a couple of bucks. Other products payout as much as 70% of the selling price. Although, that’s the exception not the rule.

But most people go about it the wrong way.

They post flashing banners on their websites. They write crazy reviews for products they don’t use or believe in. They spam people with links.

Those are all good ways to make people hate you…

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Especially when you think about how many products you buy every year.

You could be writing, recording, or filming short reviews. You could be sharing the products you love with your list. You could even use affiliate products to make more money while you’re learning Pay-Per-Click, Copywriting, Or Search Engine Optimization.

Imagine getting paid to learn

And you can get paid to learn…

It’s not hard to write a short product review today, post it on your blog, and send a quick note to your list. In 30 minutes you could make your first affiliate commission online.

And if you don’t make a sale today… don’t worry about it…

Babe Ruth did not hit a home run every time he swung the bat…

But at least he swung the bat.

Wowzers, there’s so much content out there it gets a little overwhelming some days.

Maybe you’re like me. I tend to “bookmark” everything in my web browser to read at a later date. Sometimes “later” never seems to happen at all. But this morning I came across a quote in my “bookmarks” I really thought you would like.

If you let it, this quote will forever change the way you look at success in our industry, or any industry for that matter.

It might very well inspire you to greatness you can’t even imagine today.

It’s also a great answer to a tricky question:

“How long does it take to be a world-class Network Marketer?”

Because the answer is basically: “Ummm… about ten thousand hours.”

If there’s one skill that will determine your future success in Internet Marketing without a doubt it’s your ability to write articles, letters, and website copy that sells.

But most people don’t have ten years to read all of the old books on advertising and copywriting. They want to get started making money today, not next year.

What Books Do I Personally Recommend?

Now, I’ve read almost every book you can imagine on copywriting. As a matter of fact, a few weeks ago I paid $481.90 to get four rare copywriting books shipped to me.

One of them was a really hard to find classic by advertising man Maxwell Sackheim. Another was a rare book by Clyde Bedell. I was grinning ear to ear when I ripped that box open.

But I would not recommend most of the books I read to Network Marketers starting out. Because they’re usually hundreds of pages long. Because they’re usually boring as sin. And because they’re usually expensive.

There are exceptions like Joe Sugarman’s “Adweek Copywriting Handbook” or Dan Kennedy’s “The Ultimate Sales Letter” but most people just want to get started fast.

That’s why I recommend Yanik Silver’s “Instant Sales Letters”.

You won’t even have to wait for it to be shipped to you because it’s an online membership site. And it will definitely get you started fast.

Not only does Yanik give you sales letter templates you will actually use “right out of the box” but he gives you a “copy and paste” file that I use even when I’m writing articles… like this one.

He calls his “copy and paste” file the Ultimate Sales Letter Toolbox but it’s really all the openings, bullets, selling words, phrases, copy-connectors, guarantees, closes, and P.S.s you’ll ever need to create “killer” sales letters.

It’s Probably The Easiest Way To Write Money Making Sales Copy…

Basically, when you’re stuck, you just open up that book and look for the words you need. It really has made a difference in how fast I’m able to write copy.

I used to have my own “copy and paste” file but I use Yanik’s now because it’s way more organized than my chicken scratches will ever be – maybe you’re the same.

If you really want to stand out from the crowd then you have to breathe some life into your articles. One easy way to do this is to pick a popular subject and relate it to your tips, tricks, and secrets.

That last headline is from Better Networker instructor Jim Yaghi. He artfully combined “How To”, “Theme”, and “Lists” into a powerful headline and article. It’s even a little controversial, because almost nobody is marketing in Myspace these days…

#5 – “News” Headlines

People are wired to respond to news. They’ll sit in front of the “boob tube” for days waiting to hear the latest. They’ll watch the weather channel for hours before they’ll look out the window. It’s crazy.

But be careful with news headlines. Your company might be launching a new line of products, that might be fascinating to you, but not to prospects who don’t even know your company exists.

Hey, you know those sci-fi shows like Star Trek where they hit “warp speed” and shoot through space like a bullet at the speed of light?

Well, most sites are moving at “turtle speed” instead.

When you visit these websites it takes them 20-30 seconds to load. You get bored, you get frustrated, you see something shiny and click away. And your readers are doing the same every time they visit your sites too.

What does this have to do with SEO?

You see, the longer it takes your visitors to your site in the first place, the less visitors you get. Which means, less pages views, clicks and time spent on your site. Which essentially means you’re losing half of your web traffic by making it hard for your readers to see your content.

Back in the “old days” of the Interweeble…

Now, this used to be a huge problem in the “old days” of Internet marketing. Because back then the most important thing you could do to improve your site was to speed up your load times.

But today we’ve grown so accustomed to fast computers, quick loading web pages and high-speed Internet. It’s easy to forget that half the world does not have high-speed internet or a modern computer to “surf it”.

The truth is, a lot of people are using the 2010 equivalent of Commodore 64s (an old type of computer). And a lot of people are stuck with substandard Internet access. Some people are using WiFi connections in bookstores, restaurants, or Internet Cafes. Others are quite literally “surfing the interweb” with a rusty coat-hanger and a can of Pringles. I kid you not…

The point is…

Make your website load faster and you’re automatically going to increase the amount of traffic you’re getting. Or at the very least, the amount of traffic that stays on your site more than a nanosecond.

How can you fix this problem?

#1 Visit your website from somebody else’s computer. Or take that old rusty computer from your basement, put on rubber gloves and plug it in. Assuming it can actually connect to the Internet through black magic or a modem, you’re all set.

#2 “How fast is you web page loading?” If your site taking more than 20-30 seconds then your website basically doesn’t exist. Nobody will stick around that long without clicking the “back” button. You need to fix this problem pronto.

Here’s a quick checklist…

• Resize your pictures – big pictures take time to load.
• Remove Google Ads from you site – ads take time to load.
• Use lower quality video – videos take time to load.
• Try a different template – some templates take forever to load.
• Remove the whizbang widgets – some widgets take ages to load.
• And anything else that might be slowing you down…

Basically, log in to your website and rip out everything that could be slowing your site down or get somebody who knows how (the Pizza Boy) to do that for you.

Because this is serious stuff. If your site isn’t loading properly, forget about leads or making money online, nobody will even read your content in the first place.

But, hit the warp speed and you’re ready to roll… or errrm… fly, I guess?

There’s actually a few plugins that help with this too, but I haven’t reviewed them yet, so I didn’t want to recommend them myself.

Imagine waking up, stretching your arms, plopping your feet on the floor, and grabbing breakfast.

You pour yourself a cup of coffee. You slap your computer: it whirs, beeps, buzzes, and dingles. Finally, you check your e-mail and your jaw slaps the floor…

Your inbox is flooded with leads!

You could be the world’s worst copywriter, you could be a total jerk, you could even be a convicted criminal, and some people would still do business with you as long as you have your magical endless bucket of leads.

I hate to even say that, because it’s obviously easier to get leads if you’re a decent person, but the sad truth is, in our industry, leads are big money…

And you already know, some people will sell their soul to the devil for a gigantic stack of Benjamins, C-notes, Greenbacks, or Smackeroos.

So what’s my point?

The point is, leads are the life of almost any business and they’re easily converted into Dead Presidents, Bones, or Macaroni.

Which means, leads are worth their weight in gold – literally.

Fact is, there’s no more valuable possession on earth than a hungry list of leads willing to buy what you’re selling. And today, while I was strolling around the Better Networker forums I stumbled onto the mother lode of lead generation tips…

In our industry, you can get started with telephone, a piece of paper, and a pencil. You might be wealthy or broke, clever or dull, male or female. It really doesn’t matter.

Because nobody is entitled to success in Network Marketing.

Success is something you earn. And in our industry, more than any other, there are no excuses. You are entirely responsible for your success.

Attraction Marketing Works In “The Real World” Too

Blanco Tacos + Tequila + Marketing = Derek le gusta mucho!

What the heck am I talking about?

I’m talking about one of Monique and my favorite restaurants, Blanco Taco + Tequila, here in Tucson, Arizona.

(Funny name, I know — but it has some good food, great ambiance, and awesome service.)

Plus, they know how to market themselves, which is really what this post is all about.
What, you thought I was going to talk about the Chicken Molé?

You see, there are a lot of restaurants in the Tucson area that Monique and I love — but this guy Sam Fox, who owns Blanco Taco, along with several other restaurants throughout the Southwest — keeps finding a way to get us coming back to his restaurants.

How does he do this?

MARKETING!

When you get a bill from a Sam Fox restaurant, it has a little piece of paper that says something like, “Join our V.I.P. Club.” Then it asks for your name, email address, and birthday. Genius, really.

Why? Because he’s getting permission to follow up with his customers through emails.

Every holiday, every special occasion, every chance he gets — Sam Fox sends an email to his list telling us about his latest offer.

This past Valentine’s Day, it was dinner for 2 for $35:

• 2 drinks
• an appetizer
• 2 entrées
• and dessert

Wow, what a swell guy, that Sam Fox! I can take Monique out to a nice restaurant, get a nice meal, and not break the bank.

And he made sure to tell me about this a couple of weeks beforehand, so I could make some plans and get a reservation.

He made my “what to do for Valentine’s Day” decision an easy one by making me an offer I couldn’t refuse.

None of our other favorite restaurants did this and that’s how I end up at Sam’s place instead of theirs.

Everything he does sets him apart — from his restaurant’s food, atmosphere, and service — to his special offers and the way he lets his customers know about them.

And he even gets his loyal customers to help him spread the word, like I’m doing in this blog post

Nobody really wants to know what it takes to succeed. That’s why I’ve been holding out on you.

Because the truth is, it’s not easy, it’s not fast, and it’s downright terrifying.

But if you really want to know what it takes,
ask the Spartans.

The Spartan’s didn’t make excuses when they faced Xerxes and the Persians at Thermopylae. There were 300 Spartans and scholars are still arguing about how many Persians. I’ve seen numbers cited online as high as the millions. The number is not important.

The point is, 300 men decided to “Do it or die”

They made up their minds and stood their ground while other Greeks retreated. They died but their last stand thwarted the advance of the massive Persian army. Possibly saving the whole mainland of Greece. Xerxes, was terrified of being caught on the mainland.

But what are you willing to give up for your goals, your ideals?

An hour, a week, a year?

Your right arm? Your left? Your life?

Would you let a fox eat your guts?

When I was a boy I read a story about a Spartan teenager. He stole a fox and, rather than admitting that he stole the fox, let the fox chew out his belly under his toga while he was being questioned. That was the Spartan way. He died.

Maybe, this is a little extreme, but if you really want to be remembered in 30 years, you’re going to have to develop that hard boiled attitude…

At some point you’re going to have to throw away your excuses and “Do it or die.”

The Spartans were a military state…

They sacrificed their own children for their ideals, bathing them in wine shortly after they were born to see if they were strong, leaving the weak on a mount Taygetos to die.

The survivors in their teenage years would be sent out into the countryside to survive with their brains and a knife.

Forget food, they had to kill or steal it…

They did it or they died…

Don’t forget the women…

Spartan women were some of the first women to have power in society. They were educated and athletic. They governed in the absence of their husbands. And when their husbands left for war, they would present them with shield saying: “With this, or on this.”

Meaning, “If you don’t come back a victorious, you loser, you better be dead!”

Okay, I took some liberty with that last translation…

But It Makes Network Marketing sound like a walk in the park doesn’t it?

Nevertheless, until you’re ready to make some sacrifices for you goals you will never succeed in Network Marketing or any other endeavor.

Until you’re ready to burn all your bridges, lock all the doors behind you, and risk everything you own in this world… you will never make a major breakthrough.

Success is about breaking out of your comfort zone…

In a lot of cases it’s about taking risks.
