Why you should support 'Red Tails' this weekend...

Yes movie tickets are expensive, and the price of a soda and popcorn is entirely too high for life, but I highly recommend you all to go out and support 'Red Tails." Why?

Not only because it's the first movie with an ALL black cast, but because it took 23 years for the producer, George Lucas, to get the film in theaters. 'Red Tails' is the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, who were the first all black aerial combat unit in WW2. But there's more...

The screenwriters... all black.
The director... black.
Film scorer... black.

Hollywood wasn't supporting the film financially, Lucas came out of pocket himself. Everyone doubted the film would even see light, saying an action film with all black cast wouldn't do well. But finally, after 20 years, the movie is out in theaters, and with an all star cast. Hold on, let me name them: Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Tristan Wilds, Ne-Yo, Method Man, David Oyelowo, Ryan Early, and Kevin Phillips.

We've all got to go out and support this film, not just blacks, but everyone, and prove there is a market for black films.

Remembering Etta James

The feisty, and outspoken diva known as Etta James has been called home. The soulful RnB singer who made 'At Last' a classic has died on Jan. 20, 2012. She was 73; after years of battling leukemia and dementia.

Over her 50-year career, she's won six Grammy Awards, 17 Blues Music Awards, and she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. Not to mention, she won a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Artis, and two sons.

I'm a huge fan of Etta James, and the ironic thing is my mom brought home one her greatest hit albums not even two weeks ago, and I been having these moments where I'll go hours playing her album, straight through. My favorite song by her, and probably a lot of others, 'I'd Rather Go Blind."

Her voice was so soulful, and so powerful, it's so sad to see such an iconic figure leave us, but at least we know she won't be suffering anymore.

News: What is S.O.P.A? End Piracy, Not Liberty.

Why is Wikipedia blacking out for 24 hours? So the internet won't be free? The web will be censored? Everyone is trying to figure out what is going on with the whole S.O.P.A, and after a little research, this is what I've come up with.

If the bill is passed, the government, and private companies will gain a lot of power over the internet. It'll be like a death penalty for websites. With a court order, the US Attorney General can force an internet provider to prevent access to the website of choice.

If you're still confused, CNN explained it best:

Let's say a YouTube user uploads a copyrighted song. Under the current law, that song's copyright holders could send a "takedown notice" to YouTube. YouTube is protected against liability as long as it removes the content within a reasonable timeframe.

When it gets a DMCA warning, YouTube has to notify the user who uploaded the content. That user has the right to file a counter-motion demonstrating that the content doesn't infringe on any copyrights. If the two sides keep disagreeing, the issue can go to court.

The problem with DMCA, critics say, is that it's useless against overseas sites.

SOPA tackles that by moving up the chain. If you can't force overseas sites to take down copyrighted work, you can at least stop U.S. companies from providing their services to those sites.

I agree that online piracy is a problem, but this S.O.P.A solution would mean sites would have to check through millions of links to avoid copyright infringement before posting the links, and in reality those pages who do get caught, and shut down, only have to change their address, and can continue their activities. I don't have the answer to online piracy, but I don't believe censoring the web, and giving all that power over the internet to private companies and the gov't is the way to go.

Fortunately the Obama administration is on our side, having recently issued a response:

“While we believe that online piracy by foreign websites is a serious problem that requires a serious legislative response,” said the note, “we will not support legislation that reduces freedom of expression, increases cybersecurity risk, or undermines the dynamic, innovative global Internet.”

I have someone I want you all to meet: a dope female who is new to the whole blogging world.

Her name is Cassie, she's gorgeous, she's funny, and she's taking her hilarious personality to the blog world, and writing about everything from music, movies, television, to fashion... basically all of today's pop culture, through Cassie' eyes.

Unlike NeverJaded, "We Got The CASSh" is not a personal blog, venting about her life, just simply what I mentioned before. Just read her post here, on the recent Common, and Drake beef, and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Amber sings of living life in the spotlight, the ups and the downs. I don't know about you all, but I like it. This song doesn't show if she has Beyonce range or anything, but it's cute, and with the help of studio effects, it's better than what I expected.

2012. New Year. New You? Eh. How About A Better You?

Everyone hates those people who tweet, and make statuses every year talking about how it's their year. And I dislike them just as much as the next person, but even more I dislike the tweets that refer to people entering the new year, not changing anything. "New Year. Same Me?" NO. If you're not going into each year trying to better yourself than what are you doing? Settling? Getting comfortable?

You should never get comfortable... not in a relationship, in school, in life... not in anything.

Personally, I've always been a career-oriented person, my ambition has fueled me. My desire for success to support my family has always been my motivation. That's how I lived 2011. I started my first semester of college, interned, and advanced my blogging, all apart of my plan on becoming successful. Everything seemed good. But it took my brothers death to realize that I've gotten too comfortable. I never thought I'd lose my brother. I settled on the thought that he'd always be here. And it made me realize I've settled with a lot of things. All the blogs are doing well. I'm passing classes. My relationship is good. I'm cool. Just living. BUT I could always be doing more, always doing better.

I realized that the problem most people have with accomplishing goals, is they'll make progress, get comfortable because things SEEM good, and then make excuses why they haven't continued to achieve whatever it is they're trying to.

When you're making New Years Resolutions, be realistic. Don't say you want to lose weight, stop smoking, partying, or whatever when YOU KNOW you're not going to. I'm not really for New Years Resolutions, because when you're serious about change, you'll start taking those steps the day you realize you want change. But I understand that the New Year gives people motivation to start fresh, and allow people to look back at the previous year, and figure out what they need to do to become a better person.

So instead of making these outlandish New Year resolutions, look back on 2011, and figure out how you can do better.God challenges us, throws these things in our way for us to get stronger. Think of all the obstacles you've been through in 2011, and ask yourself what you learned from them, and utilize that.

You don't have to enter the new year as a brand new person, just, you know take the initiative to become better than you were last year.

Hello Hello. So I took a little break from blogging; a little over a week, and before, a week was nothing, but now writing for three blogs, a week is forever. So I have a lot of catching up to do. I hope you guys like the new direction I'm taking with the blog. It's a little more personal, and basically not only a blog covering everything from entertainment to news, but also a look inside my mind as I make this journey to get where I want to be in life. Also the blog is more visual, which I really like. Different than your average blog, and hopefully makes it more fun to read; grabs your attention.

Christmas wasn’t the same without you. Honestly, it felt like another day, but the Christmas tree was up, and decorations everywhere. There wasn’t even any snow! When do you ever remember a Christmas without snow in Missouri? Nothing is really the same anymore. When I was Christmas shopping last week, I started picking up stuff to buy you, and that’s when it really hit me. :/ Then yesterday I’m used to going out to Dad’s, you coming out of your room, and us opening gifts, comparing who got more. Lol But I didn’t even go out there, Dad just brought the gifts to the house. And going to Granny’s…Granny’s house was just…different. All the fam was there, but something was missing. That something was you, and we all could tell. If there hadn’t been NBA Christmas games, yesterday would’ve been beyond horrible, but you know Miami winning put a smile on my face for the time being. :) #HeatGang

Not a day goes by where you don’t cross my mind, it’s really hard, but Dad gave us that strength, and ability to pull through with a smile, even if it’s a strain. I’m starting to realize that I’m getting too good at it though. Everyone comes to me to talk about you, like this isn’t hard for me too. God has put me through a lot of tests, and this is by far, the most challenging. I miss you so much. I would do anything to give you some more time. Time was all you needed. Time to find your path.

Thinking back, people always asked, “Why couldn’t you rub off on your brother?” And I’d answer, “I don’t know, but he’s alright, he’ll get it.” Yeah I shook my head when you told me of your adventures [Lol] and didn’t agree with what you were doing, but all teenagers go through those phases of finding themselves, and that’s exactly what you were doing. Time was all you needed.

But now it’s hit home. Time doesn’t wait for no man. Tomorrow isn’t promised. And while you were here, you were having fun, and living in the moment. You’re time with us was short, but we all know you lived one hell of a life. Wiz Khalifa and Snoop have this song called “Young, Wild, and Free,” and it is soooo you. Lol And I know you’re so happy about the fact that Snoop and Wiz are collabing on an album. But my outlooks on life are changing everyday, and you’re in my ear, motivating me to start living for me, and putting me first.

I always put everyone else first. Family has been first. I want the world for you, and Trell, and not to see my family struggle anymore. I hear you saying “When you make it big, I'mma turn on the TV, like ayee thats my sister" and I want you still to be able to say that. To make you, and everyone who has faith in me, proud.

They say this will get easier with time, that this pain will never completely go away, but will become easier to cope with. All I know is the pain is unexplainable, hurts worse than anything I’ve endured, and a pain I’d never wish on anyone. Your lil brothers aren’t supposed to go before you man. You know how many times I stare at my phone hoping you'll call. That I'll log on to Facebook, and see a new status from you. That it's all a dream, well more of a nightmare, and I'll wake up soon. Apart of me knows this is life, that this is real, and and I’ve got to accept the fact that you’re not coming back, that you’re gone physically, but still in our hearts. That anytime I want to talk, you’re there listening, and that I’ll see you again.

Before all this, death was my biggest fear, it still is for I have so much I want to accomplish. But now, I know that when the man above calls me home, you'll be waiting. You, Mckenzie, and all our loved ones. I have to keep telling myself God has a plan, and he works in mysterious ways.

I love you. I miss you. R.I.P.

Chris Paul is officially an Los Angeles .... CLIPPER!

Finally a trade has been made! And Chris Paul will be taking his talents to LA. Suprised by many when David Stern rejected the three-team trade between the Houston Rockets, LA Lakers, and New Orlean Hornets, which prevented Chris Paul from going to the Lakers. BUT as you see CP3 still found his way to LA, just not in the purple and gold jersey.

In order to get the Point God, the Clippers sent off Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman, and Al-Farouq Aminu. AND the Clippers will receive the Minnesota Timberwolve’s first round, unprotected, 2012 draft pick and 2 future round draft picks.

Was it good deal for the Hornets? Of course. Since Stern and the NBA own the Hornets, they weren't going to just let any trade deal pass by. New Orleans may not win the ring this season, but they got young, fresh, talented players that are most likely going to be a great franchise in the next five years. I said it now. Stern knew what he was doing.

And with Griffin, and Paul together, the Clippers may actually be a contender in the West. Looks like the may even go farther than the beloved league-dominating Lakers... or am I getting ahead of myself?

I definitely think Jhene Aiko's Sailing Souls should've been on here. I thought Section 80 was an album. o.O I'm not a big Curren$y or Fab fan, so I haven't heard those two. I agree with the others tho. The Dream's mixtape was GREAT, could've been an album. Meek Mill's stays in rotation, along with both of The Weeknd's tapes. Pusha-T I wouldn't necessarily have put in the Top 10.
