271 Meters!

Today, 6th of may 2013, is the opening day of the "271 Meters" exhibition in Copenhagen (Denmark) organized by ArtRebels. This exhibition is a selection of 12 projects (on 140) presented for the "Ørestad Street Art Competition", that intended to paint a 271 meters long wall (the winner is Hyuro, that will realize the painting in may).

We are happy to be in the 12 selected artists and also honored that a part of our project has been used for the graphics related to the exhibition (as you can see in the flyer above).

The 12 projects are presented in the exhibition that started today at 2:30 pm at the Ørestad Bibliotek (Arne Jacobsens Allé, 2300 Copenhagen, Denmark).

This is a painting we realized on commission in january 2013. It's an indoor painting made on two different floors connected by stairs. It's impossible to see it for entire without moving, because of the structure of the place, and so becomes suggestive the moment when someone walks upstairs or downstairs, perceiving two different moods and two different situations. Discovering step by step that the percentage of oxygen is changing, and that it ts proportionate to the volume of the notes of the song of the whales.

Making Triangles, a sculpture!

"Making triangles" is the first sculpture of our recent series of works (that we use to call "living-structures"). It is an aluminium sculpture of 70x70x30cm, realized in 2012.

The first image appearing readable is an equilateral triangle from which, shortly after, becomes noticeable the speed control and a connection of twisted intertwined mechanisms. Approaching more appear more evident a pipes system and some elements that would suggest a living being: an eye, a mouth and two arms, but still remains a mechanism and, as such, seems to have a function and perhaps an operator. This "living structure" recalls the first creation, in a creative sense, in terms of production and construction; recalls the human potential for growth and creation. The large triangle made to generate something smaller, and it does thanks to the fluid passing through it. This fluid does not, however, come from the outside, but by the same mechanism, it is the lifeblood that flows in the pipes. The reality is self-powered, the man shape itself. It should be added that the equilateral triangle, moreover, is harmony and proportion, and in a sense we have an harmonic system as such and in its parts, with the ability to create.

A "Red" version of this sculpture was presented at ArtYou - Urban Art Basel 2012, and this new one will be presented at the Grafik13 in Zürich (22-24 of march 2013).

Undercontrol!

It 'a long time that we do not publish something new here on our blog, and fortunately this is due to the fact that we are working and we have not much free time. However, we are preparing so much material and so many projects that we will realize soon. :-)

The painting you see in the big picture above is named "Undercontrol", we realized it in august 2012 in a pedestrian underpass in Monte Carasso (CH), under the highway, in the context of a project proposed by the Urbanova association.

At the same project were involved also BigTato, PlusPower, Panho, Zeta, Rysk and Irons.

About this painting and its concept we can say that: Everyone moves, since he was born, on roads, means, thoughts and planets that feels as if they had always been here as they are now and as if they always belonged to him.

NEVERCREW at ArtYou Basel 2012

From the 20 to the 23 of september 2012, we will be at ArtYou 2012 in Basel (CH). We've been invited to partecipate at this year edition, in a selection of nine european artists: Alëxone Dizac (France), Morten Andersen (Denmark), Cicolupo (Switzerland), Doppeldenk (Germany), Jers & Aley (Switzerland), Bruno Santinho (Portugal), Tin-Tin (France), Rae Martini (Italy) and Nevercrew (Switzerland).

We've also realized this year ArtYou Edition, creating our personal vision of the "ArtYou" logo. This creation is now used as the main image of the exhibition (poster, booklet cover,...) and from the occasion it has been printed in a limited edition silkscreen (99 pieces) of 60 x 80 cm, available to buy during the time of the exhibition.

ArtYou - Urban Art Basel, from 2006 became one of the largest and most established urban art exhibitions in Switzerland. This year selection "focuses on artists who have already been intensively dealing with the relationship between urban space and artistic orientations. Artyou presents a broad range of local talent as well as international celebrities who together cover the facets of urban art (...)"

"Magenta" making of video by Ledfilms!

Here the new making of video of our painting "Magenta - The never-ending game between the Astronaut and the Plastiline Rabbit" shooted and edited by LEDFILMS.com.
We realized it at the elementary schools of Bozzoreda, Lugano (CH) between May and June 2012, covering two walls for a total of 240 square meters. LEDFILMS followed this work from the first sketch to the last paint line, and then realized the final editing.

BlueBalls Festival 2012!

The Blue Balls Festival is a Swiss music and arts festival which every year transforms the lakeside of Lucerne for 9 days and attract more than 100,000 visitors. The Blue Balls Festival presents national and international stars, newcomers and young talents during 120 events of music, art, video, film and talk. The 20th Blue Balls Festival took place from 20 to 28 july 2012 at the KKL Lucerne, the Pavilion and the Schweizerhof Hotel.

Our turn arrived friday 27th of july, on a stage in the KKL plaza, and we had to realize a painting on a 1,90 x 1,90 meters canvas during 90 minutes of time. We used acrylic paint and spray cans and we realized "The Experienced Traveller", now property of the Blue Balls organization.

Magenta!

We recently completed our latest painting: "Magenta - The never-ending game between the Astronaut and the Plastiline Rabbit", a 240 square meters outdoor painting realized at the elementary schools of Bozzoreda, Lugano (CH), on request of the DSU of Lugano (the public services department of Lugano).

It is mainly realized with spray cans paint, with some part in acrylic paint markers and lacks. It is composed by two big walls, one perpendicular to the other, and it shows an evolving scenery, a story (or more) that's taking life. The basis of this painting are the idea of creating, of creativity, imagination, thought, discovery and memories; of the great abilities and possibilities from which we naturally can tap into at any age.

...You can hear strange noises coming from behind the little door: the rustle of paper is mixed with the roar of a fully active engine, a slight fluttering of wings seems to accompany the notes of a guitar, while something is moving in the water and seems to enjoy. The small key can reveal everything and involve the visitor in the never-ending game between the astronaut and the plastiline rabbit.

The Funnel Project

"The Funnel" is the project that we proposed to Arte Urbana Lugano, in the national competition for the temporary renewal of the Lugano-Besso (CH) pedestrian tunnel.

A 80 feet long blackboard that runs through the tunnel, on one hand, a white wall with benches to observe, on the other one; colored chalks in an automatic-vending machine, the four cardinal points written with neon lights; messages which are randomly generated by a computer. This is "The Funnel", where the constant flow of travelers and passers-by brings messages, information, ideas and suggestions.
The idea behind this project is very simple: give to people, who go through the tunnel that connects Besso to Lugano or that come from the railway station, a tool to express themselves and a place to leave their own messages. But the developments are full of potential. Who has never written a sentence of love, an insult, a thought on the blackboard at school? Who has never dreamed of doing it using all the available colors?
A dream comes true to the nth power, with a 80 meters long blackboard placed on the south wall of the tunnel. Divided into four colors regions representing the four cardinal points that meet up int the tunnel, the blackboard will turn it into "Funnel," a funnel of information, news, messages, thoughts that come from the four corners of the world and from the two poles of the city : the Besso quarter and Lugano. Mixing visions and travels in a single, large collective fresco.

To participate in this work, the distracted traveler or the rushing passer-by, will have at the disposal colored chalks, which can be found in an automatic-vending machine located at the junction of the North / South and East / West flows, at the underpass that leads to the train tracks. Each color is linked to one of the four cardinal points, and thus, perhaps, influence the choice of the message to leave and in which part of the long blackboard leave it.
To inspire the passer-traveler-writer will be distributed, along with chalks, a phrase printed on a ticket. Dark, disturbing, maybe funny: it is randomly generated by a computer and, perhaps because it's random, it speaks us about our fate... or maybe not. After leaving his mark on the large blackboard, the traveler-passer will recover from his labors by sitting in front of the long black wall, on a simple bench at the foot of a luminous white and just as long wall (the north part). To view, read and think.
"The Funnel" is this: a place where the flow of information, thoughts, desires, stops for a moment, on a long blackboard placed at the intersection of different worlds. In Lugano. A simple idea, full of potential developments: into "the Funnel" you can organize events, lectures, happenings, drawing contests, reading evenings of the messages that stranded on the blackboard. But "The Funnel" will become ath first something alive, a landing place for the flow, one that binds and unites the whole, an organism with a life of its own made of urban legends, love stories and oblique messages written in chalk.

We planned to use about 80% of the maximum budget allowed for this project (CHF 100'000. -): 50% for the realization and 30% to support events and activities within it.

The competition was won by Sophie Maffioli and Paola Tallarico, with the project "(S)Guarda Lugano", and it will be realized in june 2012 for Arte Urbana Lugano.

Highlighting invasion!

"Highlighting invasion" is a mixed media planar living-structure.

The basic concept of the work is the relationship between man and nature, between mankind and its nature. The bio-mecha structure is at the same time a symbol of scientific and creative potential, and personification modern life chaos, confusing excess of information and new media increasingly becoming part of our existence. The two sides of the coin. The flow of color, which originates from the "Space Invader" into the big brain, makes everything readable and unified in its parts. It's life and creativity, coming from everyone, from the streets, revealing new ways and new systems and showing that problem and solution are strictly connected in our decisions.

Of this living-structure we created also a smaller version, with reduced proportions and scale of values, named "Highlighting Invasion: Life Space Invasion".

NEVERCREW at Grafik12

From March 1 to March 4 2012, Grafik12 took place at the Maag Halle in Zurich (CH): an exhibition of graphic design (intended in its widest meaning) and young art. They were exhibited 100 between graphic designers, illustrators, and artists from all over Switzerland (like Ata "Toast" Bozaci, Donovan Gregory and the Designer's Club, Amadeus Waltenspühl, Michel Casarramona, Suki Bamboo, Rips1, C-Line and many more). The event has had 1800 visitors during the opening night and 6000 during all the 4 days.
We were there too with four of our recent works and we also had to realize a 4 hours live painting for Boesner during the opening night, and another 3 hours live painting during the last day (March 4) for Yootea Cares, a charity organization. For the same event were painting also Mr.Kong, Queenkong, Shark, Rips1, C-Line, Amadeus Waltenspühl, Lluvia Tresmil, Suki Bamboo, Kevin Högger, Safu, Stvan, Pase, Felix Wastütü, Kkade, Fafa and Dr. Drax.

Sluggy P - Superfrosted!

Sluggy P Superfrosted is the hairy version of Sluggy P (our latest 4 inches designer toy), evolved for situations of considerable frost and frosting (outdoor or in the kitchen). As the "regular" Sluggy P, the Superfrosted lives in the cities and look at us from the top of the buildings; but he's more relaxed and also likes to visit mountains and nature, or to walk right on the streets. His new hairy surface gives him the necessary protection from low temperatures and bad weather (also between persons), and also more adherence on his head to grab everything he needs. Needless to say, thanks to his white hairy-look he's frequently confused with a Yeti, but he's more common and not aggressive.

In the first series, we will produce 50 pieces with white hair and pink donut and 50 pieces with white hair and blue donut, both numbered and signed and buyable on our store.

Sluggy P!

"Sluggy P" is a character that we created for the upcoming movie "Tutti Giù" by Niccolò Castelli (ImagoFilm), for wich we worked as art directors, that's going to be released in 2012.

Sluggy-P is a pigeon like any other one, but probably not so easy going. He doesn't like the chaotic life of the metropolis, also if he likes to live there. He desires a better life for everyone (and for himself, of course) with all the modern comforts and technologies, but without the excess and disorder of bad informations and without pollution. He loves colors, creativity and diversity, but can't stand confusion and intolerance. This stressful situation makes him very hungry and a bit depressed, and he takes comfort from the sweetness of donuts, like an edible colored lifebelt.

Parts of the Process!

We were invited by the RSI (Radiotelevisione Svizzera Italiana) to create an image for the T-Shirts of the 10th anniversary of the broadcast "BandZ On Air".
So we started a search of the necessary elements, looking into the underground music scene of Ticino, going through homes and pockets of singers and musicians, asking to the experts and to the beginners, scouring the streets and the bars in our cities. What we found are the pieces that will help us to create a musical and creative living machine, and in this special picture we will show you how it works. :-)

As everyone knows, there are balloons in the sky filled with color... so, this is the starting point of the machine we're building for the T-Shirt. Through an elaborate process, the balloons are attracted and captured and, passing into a system of canals, are transformed by the special elements that compose the living machine (and that we have worked so hard to find).

There are, for example, the "Bio Fermentation" that produces a velvety feeling through an inevitable explosion of plastic bacteria; the "Music Jam Jar", the container where the various elements find the right tune; the "Fluidisation Prism", that receives the imput from its dark side and delivers new variations from the opposite one.

The musical and creative living machine is almost ready, we just have to do the final touches and catch some flying color balloon to make some test! :-) In the meantime, you can download this image (in 8 different colors), to use as wallpaper or just to learn more about the machine, in our DOWNLOADS page.

Volvo Art Session 2011 Art Book

After 9 months from the Volvo Art Session at the main station of Zürich (CH), organized by Eqal, the event reached his end with the presentation of the book "Volvo Art Session 2011" during the Kunst 11 art fair in Zürich.

The book is the result of the work that the photographer Michel Comte made during the 5 days of the event in february 2011. During the exhibition, where were presented big prints of selected pictures and the Volvo car painted by Wes21, a personalized copy of the book was given to each artist of the Volvo Art Session (DAIM, Wes21, Donovan & Onur, Pius Portmann, Nevercrew, Blackyard, C-Line, Yummy Industries, Michel Fr, Sukibamboo).

In april 2011 we were invited by a crew of UK based journalists (Redwood Group), from the Volvo's LIV magazine, to partecipate in theyr "European Art Movement" project. The basic idea was a trip trough Europe on their Volvo XC60 with three stops, one for every selected artist. The stops were Bornholm in Denmark (Anne Sofie Meldgaard), Leipzig in Germany (Metulczki) and Lugano in Switzerland (us). We had to choose a place to realize a work and we decided to do that on the top of the "Balestra" Carpark in the center of Lugano.

The work we realized represents a kind of exploration: the astronaut is a person who visits places that few humans can see, looking at things with wonder and, of course, for the first time; he discover them. The car instead explores the inside, lives the place in detail; it knows it and it's part of it. The article and the interview are published on issue n°2 - 2011 of LIV magazine and also as video documentary on Volvo's website.

Goodbye Donuts!

It's out now on iTunes Store, the latest album of the japanese band Icon Girl Pistols, for which we made the cover art and we created a new band logo: "Goodbye Donuts (Hey, statue of Liberty)".

We were contacted by the Icon Girl Pistols after using one of their songs for our art-video "Lack of ispiratione" (made with Andrea Todaro). They gave us 100% of freedom and we created something that in our minds could fit with their music.

The big mechanical creature spread with pink paint a heap-dump-city district floating on the water; he's probably dancing and making a lot of noise while a new life arrives everywhere around him.

Paint Club Switzerland Video!

On 2nd september 2011, we partecipated in the "Paint Club" Swiss competition at the "Rok" club in Luzern (CH), which consisted in an "art battle" between three teams of artists (2 artists in every team). With a subject decided just before the start ("BlockParty"), we had ninety minutes to create a painting (improvising) using acrylics and markers.

In the end, two judges and the audience chose our painting as the winner, and then we got the opportunity to participate in the European finals of the "Paint Club" in Berlin, that will probably be in 2012.

Unlucky Munnies Series!

The "Unlucky Munnies" is our new series of 4" munny customs (Kidrobot). Two of them were already part of the first projects for the Munnyworld Megacontest 2011, but due to time constraints we decided to make only the "Vampirized". Given its success (awarded "Best Minimalist Design"), we decided to make the remaining two and expand the series with other new ideas.

So the series "Unlucky Munnies. In the wrong place, at the wrong time" is mainly made on 6 Munnies (Kidrobot) and then accompanied by other characters of the same group (Trikky, Bub, Foomi).
These unfortunate DIY toys have found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time, and therefore were "Vampirized", "Werewolfed", "Zombified", "Facehugged", "Assimilated" and choose the "Dark Side" of the Force.

The "Vampirized" is a twin of the winner one, maybe bitten during the night by the same vampire too. The "Werewolfed" was infected by the scratch of a werewolf (this happens when you leave a Munny unattended on the window sill). "Zombified" is a living corpse of a Munny, gradually decaying and hungry for Munny-flesh. "Facehugged", "Assimilated" and "Dark Side" were Space travellers, but also in deep Space you can be really unfortunate: so the first one was attacked by an Alien's facehugger, the second one met the Borgs and the third one was too angry and scared and a Sith probably persuaded him.

Smart Painting Video!

During this summer we had a lot of different things to do, and this is just one of them! During an event in june we were asked to create a painting on a "Smart" car in 2-3 hours. So now we edited a a short video, filmed by us and Andrea Todaro, which shows our performance.

Making of The Daughter of the Sea!

We finally made the making of video of the sculpture we realized for Costa Cruise's ship "Costa Favolosa", inaugurated in july 2011.

"The Daughter of the Sea" is based on the theme "Ondine", the water nymph from the mythology. The sculpture, a little bit different from our usual style, was realized with different media, both for the shell and for the girl, and then casted in bronze and refined at the artistic foundry "Rimart" in Senago (MI, Italy).
For the video we used pictures and videos from many different cameras, mobile phones and so on. The song is "At the Mall" by Emerald Park.

Lack of inspiratione

New website!

It's finally ready and online our new website nevercrew.com!

We decided to create a new one for many reasons: sometimes we like to change, we desired to show more and to communicate more, the old one was funny and stylish but not enough user-friendly and easy to update.

In our new website now we have 4 sections: Paintings, with our walls, murals, graffiti, canvases, and more; Designs, with graphics, objects and our series of "spaces"; Art toys, with our own production toys, our customs and our "Hangselm"paper-toy; Video, with our videos, making of of our artworks and video about us. There are also more informations about us (About us, Contacts),a store, and the MBox (memories box), where we show random picture about us, our past, our works, and so on.

Moreover, we added descriptions and related links for every work, more connections with the social networks (to share our work or follow us, if interested) and we also changed the style of this blog (as you can see).

In our website, we made the graphical, artistic and conceptual part, but the entire structure was programmed by Igor Kovacevic (m4tricol.com), a professional programmer and developer of websites, blogs, mobile applications, templates, and so on.

Best Minimalist Design category winners!

The 31th of may Kidrobot and its judges published the results of the Munnyword Megacontest 2011, and we're glad to announce that our "Vampirized" Munny won in the "Best Minimalist Design" category. In addition, also other two of our customs reached a bit of glory: 2nd place in the "Best Animal Design" category for "Apartment Bat" and 3rd place in the "Most Innovative" category for the "Living City" Munny. Our biggest compliments to the brazilian artist Sergio Mancini for the Best in Show prize.
