Product Review: Kinerase C8 Peptide Products

I have a problem with too much baggage, dark baggage. Under my eyes! (He, he, you thought it was emotional or something at first, didn't you?)

My point is, I always look exhausted no matter how much sleep I get. This is partly inherited and partly due to severe allergies. I have been seeking a solution or at least some help for this problem for some time and as we all know, the over-the-counter stuff doesn't always fit the bill, so to speak.

I was sent two products of a their C8 line to try.

First up: For those awful dark circles, C8 Peptide Under Eye Treatment. It promises to reduce wrinkles around the eye area, puffiness, and dark circles within 28 days. BIG BONUS: It contains Vitamin C and is hypoallergenic.

I've only used it for a week thus far, but I have before and after pictures for you. Is it working? You be the judge. Keep in mind, it hasn't been 28 days yet...

Before. No make up. Bathroom lighting.

On week after using product twice a day. No makeup, same bathroom, same spot, same lighting. No tricks, I promise.

Honestly, I had my doubts. Just looking in the mirror, I saw no difference. Looking at the photos, however, I think something is changing (I believe the upper bag, right beneath my eye is smaller. The bigger bag still needs those three extra weeks.) and I look forward to seeing where my baggage goes at the end of 28 days.

I hope it doesn't go to my butt...or my waist...LOL

Item two: Kinerase C8 Peptide Deep Wrinkle Treatment

This product promises to smooth deep wrinkles and aid your skin's elasticity in 14 days. I don't have any deep wrinkles so there is no way for me to test that claim, but I do like the "lotion". It has a slight orange blossom smell, very subtle, and I was worried at first it would lead to pimples as I'm wont to get when using creams on my face, but to my great surprise and pleasure, I didn't get any at all. My skin did not increase its oiliness, but instead, this cream rid my skin of those irritating white flaky dry spots without making me oily. It promptly soaks in and does its thing. No grease. You can put on makeup afterward.

As you can see in the eye photos, my skin ton seems to have evened out a bit. That's also due to this cream. I have used it once a day for a week.

How the ingredients work: (copied from website):

-Stabilized vitamin C, a natural brightener and collagen booster, evens skin tone as it fills in the look of fine lines and wrinkles.
-Kinetin, Kinerase's cornerstone ingredient. It is a plant-based technology and anti-oxidant clinically shown to delay signs of aging.
-Snap-8, A neuropeptide (specifically, an octapeptide), which is also an elongation of the famous hexapeptide Argireline®. Reduces the appearance of wrinkles caused by repetitive facial expressions.
-Leuphasil, Pentapeptide that reduces the appearance of wrinkles caused by repetitive facial expressions. Works synergistically with Argireline by attacking the wrinkle in multiple angles.
-Argeriline, Hexapeptide that reduces the appearance of wrinkles caused by repetitive facial expressions. Works synergistically with Leuphasil by attacking the wrinkle in multiple angles.

Do I recommend it? I'll know more at 28 days, but so far, it does seem to be doing what it promises. I love the fact they aren't greasy or oily and I didn't break out.

My honest two cents: I had a very hard time with this one. First of all, it's not a fairytale romance, nor is it a "skipping through the flowers and live happily ever after" novel. That's fine. I like real life. I like realism. I get tired of HEAs, but this book has so much ugliness. For me, the ugliness overshadowed the romantic stuff.

The main reason I didn't like it, however, is the heroine. I could not relate to her at all, or sympathize. She made her bed; she had to lie in it. She continuously made decisions that just didn't set well with me. Having an affair, I don't blame her for that. Staying in the rich man's house knowing he's a child molester? Can't fathom it. I realize times were different then and it wasn't like a woman could just walk out and take the child with her, but strong women did exist then and I'd sell my body before raising a child around a man like that. Worse, she abandons the kid to live with her lover.

I bailed a quarter through, but that's just me. I do believe anyone with a strong interest in Native American history and customs, who doesn't have strong feelings toward the topics mentioned above will enjoy it. It does immerse you in another time and place. It is rich in historical detail and it's a real eye opener as far as Native American customs.

You’ve booked your venue, purchased your dress, signed contracts with the catering company and taken engagement photos. The hard part is officially over and now, you can start planning your wedding music.

Before you start picking songs however, there are a few things to keep in mind such as ambience, budget and your venue acoustics. After food, music will be one of the details that your guests will remember.

No one knows the importance of music more than Brian Austin Green. In his latest show “The Wedding Band,” Green plays the lead singer of a fun-loving Seattle rock band called Mother of the Bride. Alongside his band mates, he experiences outrageously funny ups and downs! They haven’t figured out their personal lives, but they do know one thing for sure — weddings are the best place to meet women, drink up and rock out. Ambience

Before you decide whether you want a wedding band, a DJ or an iPod, you have to ask yourself a few questions: How do you picture your wedding music? Do you want a party or do you want an elegant event with minimal dancing? Are your musical choices reflective of you and your fiancé? Or do you want the music to appeal to your parents?

Once you figure out what you want, the next step is to figure out if you can afford it. Once you’ve determined the DJ, band or laptop of your dreams is within your purview, you have to figure out if your wedding venue has the electronic capabilities to host your music.

Budget

How much money are you willing to spend on music? Some people are fine with a DIY wedding DJ’d by a friend or an iPod. Some folks hire a band or a professional DJ. Whatever you decide, be sure to check if:

· Bands are allowed to play at your venue

· How long will they need for load-in and soundcheck?

· Do they charge a flat rate?

· How many sets can they play?

· Does the DJ understand your vision?

· Does he have the songs you like?

· Will he charge you if he/she needs to download songs?

· Is the DJ on the venue’s preferred vendors list?

· If not, would they open to having a new vendor on the premises?

Acoustics

Will your ceremony and reception be indoors, outdoors or both? If your ceremony will be outside, you’ll have to make sure that there are electrical plugs near your set-up. This will ensure that you’ll be able to plug in your speakers and microphones without worry. Also, if you’re having a wedding march and post-ceremony music, you’ll need to be able to triangulate a musical “sweet spot” so that your songs can be heard clearly outside. If your ceremony is indoors, then you needn’t worry about this bit.

The Reception

Some venues have a strict music policy with loud music being allowed up to a certain time. If you’d like to party later than the standard 10 p.m. be prepared to pay extra by the hour. Some venues will be open to extending their music policy, others will not. Be sure to discuss these issues before signing any contract.

Special Post and Giveaway: Why The World Needed A Children’s Book About A Deaf Little Girl

Please welcome Wendy Kupfer, who wishes to share her children's book just in time to honor Hearing Loss Awareness Month.

In 1977, at 10 months of age, our beautiful baby was diagnosed with a profound hearing loss and the very prominent doctors said she would never speak. There were unlimited resources back then for parents... no Internet... no Google... no "Apple”… no anything. Gathering pertinent information was quite challenging.

Today it's a different world and fortunately a totally different experience for parents. My daughter, Ali, has beautiful speech, a master’s degree in social work and a career of service to adults with disabilities. The world is now entrenched in technology. Parents are supporting each other through Facebook and Yahoo groups and access to resources and information is truly endless. But yet, children's books showing vibrant characters wearing hearing devices haven't advanced in the marketplace as much as you would think.

Books pertaining to hearing loss are not usually found on the shelves of your favorite bookstore (fortunately they can be ordered on-line). Many of these books are lacking in eye appeal when compared to the likes of Pinkalicious or Olivia. Is that why they aren't usually found in our beloved book stores or, are these books lacking in eye appeal because the major publishers aren't all that interested in publishing them and the bookstores aren't all that interested in offering them. The question is what came first...the chicken or the egg???

I must clarify that you just can't ever have too many books and the authors that wrote the existing books are truly amazing and their efforts are to be commended! Many of these authors had to self-publish with limited resources because the publishers weren't interested. But they did it...because of how much they care! All of these books are important in the life of a child with hearing loss, but something was clearly missing.

Honestly, I was stunned...completely baffled. After all, this was 2011 and we had advanced in ways we never dreamed possible. And…according to the March of Dimes, hearing loss is one of the most common birth defects. There are over 3 million children in the US with significant hearing loss and 50% of these children are under the age of three. So why wasn't the literary world nurturing our deaf children's self-esteem and teaching hearing children about hearing loss? Why wasn't there a book with the style, appeal and whimsy of Knufflebunny or The Cat In The Hat?

This realization reignited my passion as a life-long advocate for deaf children and launched this journey I was about to begin. I was determined to produce a hardbound book featuring adorable characters wearing hearing aids and cochlear implants. I was determined to create something so visually appealing that hopefully ALL children would want to read this book. And I was determined that this book would be of the quality that would proudly sit on the shelves next to Eloise and Fancy Nancy. My goal included giving back and making a difference by donating a percentage of sales to organizations that generously and tirelessly support children with hearing loss.

It’s now two years later and I am overwhelmed with the results. I am extremely proud of Let's Hear It For Almigal and our reach is growing every day. There are countless rewards that have made this journey and its numerous learning curves so incredibly worthwhile and rewarding!

It's the eager and mesmerized faces of the hearing kiddos I read to in the schools...it's the questions they ask about hearing loss. (And of course they always want to know if Buster the mischievous poodle REALLY ran away with Almigal's cotton-candy pink cochlear implants and whether it’s true that Almigal forgot to remove her implants before jumping in the swimming pool?) It's the knowledge that Almigal is raising awareness and creating sensitivity towards all special needs in today's young minds and reminding our youngsters that we are all special in different ways! It's also about connecting with parents and sharing my experiences, helping any way I can. But nothing compares to getting an email from a parent telling me about their "Almigal" and thanking me for writing this book!

I am so appreciative of the support and enthusiasm Let's Hear It For Almigal has received in addition to the many wonderful awards Almigal has won. Our Mom's Choice Gold Award for "values and life lessons" was especially meaningful for us. Kudos to the amazing Mom’s Choice organization for selecting a book about a spunky little girl who desperately wants to hear “every single sound in the whole entire universe”.

Nadia was pulled from her short 15 minute nap when she heard Gabe and Kevin talking outside of the SUV. She looked around and noticed there were several cop cars lining the street. She opened the SUV door and stepped outside, her hands moving up and down her arms, the cool night air giving her a chill.

“Hey Kevin, did you go in yet?”

“No, not yet, Nadia. I was gathering a statement from Gabe and waiting on back up.”

She nodded her head and looked off at her house. “Can you go in now? I want to check on my cat.”

“Yes, ma’am. You and Gabe stay here and preferably inside your vehicle. We’ll come get you when we have the all clear.

Nadia and Gabe both nodded and moved back into the SUV. Nadia appreciated the warmth the vehicle was providing. Gabe grabbed her hand and they watched the handful of police officers enter her home. She noticed that the front door didn’t need to be kicked down, which meant it was already open. That man had definitely been in her place. The officers made a bunch of noises, and four of them came outside. Kevin ran up to the vehicle, his face shaken, his voice edgy.

“Nadia, there’s been a crime. You need to stay put. He isn’t in your house anymore, but he was most defiantly here. There’s a body inside, we believe it’s your coworker Matt. I need one of you to come confirm the identification.”

Nadia started opening her door when she heard the news. “What are you doing?” Gabe asked.

“I am going to identify the body.”

“Like hell you are, you stay put.”

“Gabe it’s my house. I’m going.”

Kevin interrupted their argument. “I think it’s best if she comes. We need to know if anything was stolen, and only she can do that.”

Nadia wasted no time. She was out of the vehicle and walking up to her house within moments. Kevin and Gabe had to jog to catch up to her. The three of them walked side by side together as she approached her front door.

“It’s bad, Nadia, just to warn you,” Kevin said.

She grabbed Gabe’s hand, and together they walked through the door. They made sure to stay where the officers told them so they didn’t disrupt the crime scene. Nadia squeezed Gabe’s hand tight when she saw Matt hanging from her fan. He had a rope tied around his neck and attached to one of the support beams of her living room. Gabe pulled her into his body, and she started to cry.

“This is all my fault.” The tears fell from her eyes and down her cheeks. She held onto Gabe tight as the officers talked all around her.

“I take it that’s Matt?” Kevin asked.

“Yeah, that’s him. I’ll call Scully,” Gabe said.

“Wait till we’re done, okay? I don’t need everyone trampling the crime scene. Nadia, your bedroom is clear. It doesn’t look like anyone has been in there. Why don’t you and Gabe go sit down and wait in there until we’re done?”

Gabe didn’t wait for her to reply, he simply walked and guided her into her bedroom and shut the door. He sat her on the bed and went to her closet to get a warmer sweater for her to wear. Her arms were freezing, and he needed a moment to compose himself.

“Nadia, look who I found on your dresser.” Gabe came out of the closet holding Triple T in his arms.

Nadia’s face lit up when she saw him. “Thank God you’re okay, little guy.”

She cuddled the kitten in her arms and curled up on her bed. She stroked his fur, and he purred into her hand. His rough tongue ran over her skin, and Nadia looked up at Gabe. “I killed him; he’s dead because of me.”

“Not because of you… He chose to not follow the instructions and brought attention to himself. That’s not on you.”

“No, but he never would have been there in the first place if it wasn’t for me, so it’s my fault.”

Gabe sat behind her on the bed and stroked her head. His fingers played with her hair, trying to give some comfort. “Things happen, Nadia. You cannot take responsibility for everyone’s actions good or bad. This was the man who killed Matt’s fault, ultimately.”

“I should give up being a journalist. Look what damage I’ve caused, all the trouble I keep bringing to people, my coworkers and family.”

“Nadia, sweetie, stop. This really wasn’t your fault. I wish you could see that.”

“Gabe, you will not convince me otherwise.”

Our Thoughts

Christmas in a bag the day I received this gift-set! These items smell fantastic and I had a lot of fun testing out each one. The Parisian Charm body cream and the Bath Pearls are my two favorite out of the bunch, although they are all excellent. The bath pears really make your skin super soft and I was able to wash my hair still without the pearls affecting it. The Morning Glory milk bath also had a great affect on my skin, however when I washed my hair it really dried it out for twenty four hours. So take note, the milk bath is GREAT for a good soak, just remember to wash your hair another time ;)

To my second favorite product, the body cream. Anything that helps with dry skin is a keeper in my book, however a lot of products leave that greasy feeling, which I cannot stand. As stated from Calgon, this product does not leave your skin feeling greasy and they weren't lying. Also, it just smells wonderful!

The Morning Glory body wash is very fragrant on my skin when bathing and the Blushing Blossoms body mist is now my daily fragrance! Excellent products from Calgon!

Our Thoughts:

This product is as simple as putting a hair band, beanie, or hat on your new born! A great help for any parent to help prevent flat head. It's simple make up is easy and self explanatory to use. When you want to switch sides of the "tunnel" simply move it to the other side of baby's head.

I totally recommend this product to any new parent, or parent to be! A preventable problem has been made even more simple by the makers of Tortle. Baby doesn't seem to mind wearing it, as it's not bulky, or a hassle to deal with. Tortle can also be worn anywhere at any time! If you know someone expecting a baby soon, buy this as a baby shower gift! There are a few prints, all of which are very cute!

Hearing Loss: It May Be Closer Than You Think

The month of May is Hearing Loss Awareness Month. I'd like everyone to take a moment...not just now, not just this week or even this month, but try to remember throughout the year, that millions of people throughout the United States have hearing loss.

Some tips for the hearing world:

-The next time you speak to someone in a public place and they don't acknowledge you, don't just automatically assume they're being rude. Stop a minute and ask yourself, "Did they hear me?" Maybe they have hearing loss. Hearing loss isn't a visible illness. You don't SEE it. Hearing aids can be well hidden.

-Make it a habit of speaking clearly and enunciating your words. Don't mumble; don't stare at the ground; don't talk too fast. Try to make sure people are looking at you when you speak to them. This was a rule taught in my household growing up, regardless of if someone had a hearing impairment or not. Back in those days, it was a sign of respect to look at someone when they speak to you and vice versa. We need to bring this back.

-Facial hair...is a nightmare for us hard of hearing lip-readers. If we can't see your lips, we don't understand you. Men, keep that hair trimmed.

-Do not assume that because we can't hear, that we're any different from you. I can get married (I am!), I can have children, I can drive, I can ride a bike. I can do everything you can do, except HEAR. This does not in any way or form hinder my mental capabilities or make me dumb. Let's separate deaf and dumb. It's past time.

-Do not speak to us as though we are slow. Speak normally. There's a big difference in plain enunciation (speaking clearly) and spending one minute on each word you utter. Don't draw it out and move your mouth in an exaggerated fashion. We learn to lip-read normal moving lips, not comical.

-Don't yell at us. Many of us are deaf to certain sounds and it doesn't matter how loud you say it, it won't get through. Plain and simple: if you're not speaking clearly, we won't understand it. Your quiet blah blah blah maw wah just becomes a very loud BLAH BLAH BLAH MAW WAH.

-Don't leave us out of things and talk over our heads. We feel ostracized. When everyone around us is laughing at a good joke, we want to laugh too! Include us. Make an effort. If you feel it's too much work to talk to us, we're going to decide it's too much work to be your friend. And you could really miss out on a good friendship.

-Hearing helpers are just that: HELPERS. If you're asked to be a hearing helper, don't permit others to speak to you as though we aren't there. Don't answer for us. If someone says to you, "What does she want to eat?" do not tell them, "She wants pizza." A hearing helper should turn to the deaf person and say, "He asked what you wanted to eat." We can and will answer for ourselves. Be careful not to take over and remember to just help. We do value our independence.

-Don't say something and then get mad when we ask you to repeat it for the second or third time. Count to ten if you have to, but try to avoid that callous "never mind". If you said it once, I'm going to assume you wanted me to hear it. It must be important enough. It's very frustrating when people do this.

-Cochlear implants and medical procedures of that ilk are personal matters. Do not try to fix us. Many of us are happy the way we are and have no desire to change. We don't see ourselves as broken or in need of fixing, so don't act like we are.

-Teach your kids that we're no different from them, that deaf isn't dumb, that hearing aids are nothing to be ashamed of. Talk to your children about bullying and its long-term effects.

Our Thoughts

I was sent a cable lock for this review. Being that we have four to five bikes depending on when and where we go bike riding, the cable lock is great. We found a fantastic way to lock all five bikes when we have them out!

Camping season has just started in Wisconsin since the weather has finally cooperated and warmed up enough to get the water turned on at our normal camping spot. When we go camping we take Helga, our 34 foot camper. My husband has figured out that when we do take Helga and the bikes, he can lock the bikes to the awning arm or to the hitch. For a family like ours with three little boys and two adults the cable lock works fantastic for multiple bikes. The biggest pluses of the cable lock are that it's six feet long and has a lock with words instead of numbers. The lock with words gives my older boys the ability to unlock their bikes without needing my husband or I to help all the time. It really makes life a little easier when we have kids moving in three directions.

Personally I would recommend this lock for those who have a multiple bike household!

Book Review: Dirty Harriet by Miriam Auerbach

This is proof you don't need a romance in a book to be wholly entertained and love every minute.

I was hooked from the get-go. The story opens with Dirty Harriet telling us about how she killed her husband at a wedding with a .44 and confesses she said, "Go ahead. Make my day."

I knew from that moment this was my kind of heroine.

What follows is a mystery involving illegal immigrants in tomato fields, mysterious female problems, car and motorcycle accidents, rick women, and more. To reveal too much would ruin the story. But I was not able to figure it all out until Harriet did--a plus for me. I like to have an inkling but I don't like to figure it all out by page 50.

The mystery was good, but what makes the book awesome is the heroine's wit, snark, and thoughts. And just her, herself. She's very down to earth, though she hasn't always been. She's dealing with her mother, who's on a cruise and babbling about a mysterious man. She rides a motorcycle and works on it herself in her free time. She cracks jokes about it being a 500-pound vibrator "always up for a ride, the pushrods pumped hard and the tires never deflated..." If you haven't figured it out, she was saying her bike was better than a man. LOL

She talks to an alligator and drink scotch at the end of the day.

There's even a moral in the end. Two, actually. 1. Never assume. 2. Nobody can be free until we're all free. Everyone is a prisoner to something.

I think my favorite, LOL moment was when Harriet has to get a pap smear...I laughed so hard, I was glad I wasn't in public. I'd have appeared like a lunatic.

"Please scoot up here a little bit," the doctor said. That was gynecological code for, "Shove your a** in my face."

Hilarious. Fun. Empowering. No damsel in distress here at all. I highly recommend this and I'll be eagerly watching for book two, due out this summer.

When Avant climbed back to the cave, his hair was wet. He'd slicked it back from his face and tied it into a little ponytail with a leather string. The sexy shadow of a light beard softened his angular jaw, and the thick waves of his hair shined with chestnut highlights in the morning sun. It was a good look for him, but then again, what wasn’t? Abby ran her fingers through her own tangled tresses and pulled her hair back. What she wouldn't give for a hairclip.

“Would you like a thong for your hair?”

She giggled at the word thong, certain that what she pictured was not what he referenced. “Do you have an extra one? I’d like to get it out of my face, and I don’t have anything.” Actually she had her own thong, but she sure as hell wasn't putting it in her hair.

He immediately unlaced the tie at the neck of his shirt and handed it to her.

She gasped and put a hand to her face to hide the heat in her cheeks as his shirt fell open below his breast bone. “You don’t have to do that.”

Her blood coursed wildly at the sight of the smooth muscles of his chest. A soft sprinkling of dark hair beckoned her fingers. She swallowed hard.

She trudged down the mountain with the previous day's tumult weighting her down like the “freshman ten.” Avant helped her along on the steeper steps, but, for the most part, she made them on her own, clippity-clopping in those damned Docinis all the way.

When he reached the bottom, he disappeared around an outcropping. Abby took the last little step to the base and hurried after him. As she turned the corner, Avant grabbed her arm and spun her around. Driving her back against the rock, he pressed the length of his rigid body against her. His face, barely three inches from hers, clenched in thin lines of stress. Her heart raced…with fear.

She was pretty sure it was fear.
