As a part of the worship gathering we'll have a time for the "Prayers of the People" where we'll open up our prayer time for all who would like to to pray to do so. We ask that you pray loud enough so that others can hear you and succinctly enough that others may have the opportunity to pray as well. We'll end our prayer time with St. Patrick's Prayer, aka. the Breastplate of St. Patrick prayed outloud together.

We'll call ourselves to worship with Psalm 149. And these are the songs we'll be singing together:

Come See the Son (Get this free download and add it to your iPod!)

Be Thou My Vision (We're singing this beautiful, rich, Celtic tuned hymn particularly in light of St. Patrick's Day.)

We all ought to worship, give glory and honor to God, everyday in all that we do. But there is something special about the people of God coming TOGETHER for worship (Hebrews 10:24-25). Thus, we hope Sundays at New City are a highlight of your week. In an effort to help you get more out of it, we're posting a short preview of this Sunday's gathering.

This Sunday we continue in our second week of the new sermon series called LIVING IN THE GAP: Between Promise and Reality, based on the life of Abraham in Genesis 12-25.

Take a few minutes to spend some time with this week's text, Genesis 12.10-20.

It doesn't take long reading the Scripture before we are faced with the reality that the saints who have gone before us and are remebered in its pages are flawed, sometimes quite seriously flawed. And yet...God pursues them, calls them, uses them for His Kingdom. What does this mean for us? Josh will walk us through this episode of starting and stumbling in Abraham's story and challenge us to faithful living in the gap.

We try to pray in different ways during our worship gatherings. This week, we'll open the floor up for anyone who feels led to pray. You can pray for a specific need you have, or offer prayers for our city and our church's mission, as well as the work of the Gospel around the world.

Songs we'll sing this week include:

Come Ye Sinners

This Sunday we begin a new sermon series called LIVING IN THE GAP: Between Promise and Reality, based on the life of Abraham in Genesis 12-25. Our text for this week is Genesis 11.27-12.9.

Abraham is a seminal character for the major faiths of the world so wherever you are in your faith journey, this journey with Abraham will be of help, because as Josh posted earlier this week, "you'll never be able to understand world history without knowing about Abraham. You won't be able to understand the Bible unless you know about Abraham, because the Scriptures (both Old Testament and New) are chalked full of references to him. And, unless you know about Abraham, you won't really know what it looks like to live faithfully in the gap between promise and reality. Abraham lived most of his life in the gap. And the Bible calls him 'the father of all who believe.' "
