For or To

2020-08-04T20:57:00.004+05:30

English prepositions are pretty difficult sometimes. English prepositions don't have a lot of logic to them and they don't have always sense. For all these reasons, English prepositions must be learned and practiced in context with other words.

Sometime we are use wrong preposition and it's completely change the meaning of sentence. Today, we are going to learn "to" or "for".

To

When should you use preposition "to" ?

Direction / destination

Something move to one place to another place. We can use to when there's some kind of transfer happening or something is being moved from one place to a destination.

Example:

Do you usually take the bus to work?(here work is destination)
If you're feeling sick you should talk to a doctor.(here doctor is destination)
Can you quickly run to the shops.(here shops is destination)

If you are talking about a distance you should also use to.

Time/time between two points.

It's a quarter to seven.

Use "For" when the motive or reason is Noun.

You can use "To" and "For" both. Both are correct grammatically but it's change the meaning of sentence. So, this is where you have to be a little careful.
