But with the LTE always on, you can expect a shorter battery life. But still, a single charge assures you of a full day of use of your smartwatch regardless of the usage of the apps.

There may be several negative initial reviews of the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2, being more expensive than the original for a few unpromising upgrades. That’s because it was true during the early months of the launch. The most notable upgrade is the LTE connectivity. Fitbit’s second smartwatch production: The Fitbit Versa is a far cry from the Fitbit Ionic. This huge contrast between the two products of the same company could be due to the Versa’s slightly disappointing predecessor. Its perfect battery life and slick design make it a fitting competitor to the more expensive smartwatches like the Samsung brands. Then again the lack of inbuilt GPS is somehow a bummer that has affected its popularity.

With the Versa, you can keep tabs on a wide variety of activities, including running, swimming and cycling, and its menstrual cycle tracking is another hugely intriguing feature about the Fitbit Versa. Unlike many other smartwatches, it’s also well compact making it look good on users with slim wrists.

The Fitbit Versa just like all the other smartwatches is packaged with the Fitbit Versa, a USB charger/data cable, and a user’s manual.

Design

For the Versa, Fitbit hasn’t only updated the design of one of its prior or existing wearables; but it has a whole new look and maybe one that seems more Apple Watch-like than none of the company’s previous devices.

It boasts of the `Squircle’ watch face design, that is, a square face with rounded edges – in case you need to know what this means.

Despite its awkward design name, the Versa is a much more attractive and friendly-looking watch than most of the Fitbit`s previous devices, especially the Ionic, which you are going to admit that it has very few fans.

In comparison, to other watches the Versa is harmless-looking, making sure that you are left to only concentrate more on what’s happening on display.

The Versa isn’t only eye-catching but could be one of the most comfortable smartwatches Fitbit has made credit to its featherweight.

On the left-hand side of the Versa sports, there is one main wake-up/back button, while on the right you will notice two smaller pause and `done` workout buttons. These are very simple to press and have proved to work very well while using the Versa for both focused exercise and day-to-day wear.

As for the Versa’s display, it’s a vibrant, colorful touchscreen with a brightness up to 1,000 nits. The display feature ensures that even in direct sunlight or underwater it’s easily visible, even when not turned up to the maximum brightness capacity.

Touch commands also seem to be much improved over the Ionic, which seemed to suffer a little from latency. Now commands seem to be fluid and uninterrupted.

Battery life

The Versa’s ability to stay for long minus charge puts other smartwatches in the shade.  With this watch you can expect to last for at least four days off a single charge, this according to real-life results show it to be a conservative estimate.

When I tested it, the Versa comfortably kept on for up to four days. Connecting it to my phone via Bluetooth, it lasted for almost five days; when it was untethered, it managed six days.

Over and above this, if you want to extend that even further, you have to set the screen’s brightness to dim rather than automatic.

These are super-impressive figures, which pretty much put the Versa at the same level as the Fitbit Ionic. However, the other smartwatches don’t come any closer. The Apple Watch, for example, needs to be charged every night.

The Versa also comes with a clip-in charger, into which you place the watch by squeezing it open. From flat, you’ll be back up to 100% in around two hours.

Unlike the Ionic, you will realize that the Versa doesn’t have GPS built-in. What this means is that, if you want to track your running route, you’ll need to take your phone out with you too. That’s a big deal, and it’s one of the main reasons the Versa costs so much less than the Ionic.

However, what the Versa does have is enough onboard storage for around 300 of your favorite tracks of music, which you can play through a pair of Bluetooth headphones. This ability will allow you to go phone-free in the gym, which is great. For running, however, it makes more sense to play music through your handset, as you’ll probably have it with you anyway because of its GPS capabilities.

The Versa is water-resistant to 50 meters so that you can wear it even in the pool, and it does most of its tracking with the use of a 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis gyroscope, optical heart rate monitor and altimeter.

Exercise and activity tracking

Those sensors enable the Versa to track a wide range of activities including running, swimming and cycling. It also tracks your walks and general workouts, such as weight-lifting and interval training, and monitors your steps, distance covered, floors climbed, calories burned, heart rate and sleep.

For someone who may be new to smartwatches, this may seem like an annoying lot – but what’s important here is how easy the Versa is to use. It runs Fitbit OS 2.0, which is intuitive, simple to navigate and lets you access the watch’s key features with just a few swipes and taps.

To track a run, for instance, swipe left on the main screen, tap the exercise icon and select Run. For other types of exercise, you swipe through the tabs until you land on the right option. To begin tracking, hit the Play button, which you can tap again to pause GPS tracking. You can bring an end to your workout by hitting the chequered flag icon.

To quickly view your stats for the day, including details of any workouts you’ve completed and your progress, just swipe up on the main screen.

Apple Watch 3: The Apple Watch 3 is a true smartwatch that even offers LTE so that you can use most of its features without a phone.

It’s more stylish than the Fitbit Versa too, and while it’s a real smartwatch its fitness features aren’t lacking – it has GPS, which the Versa doesn’t. But of course, the Apple Watch 3 is also a lot more expensive.

Fitbit Ionic: If you’re a little bit more into your fitness, especially running, the more expensive Fitbit Ionic might be a good alternative to consider as it offers more dedicated fitness features such as in-built GPS tracking – meaning you don’t need to take your phone out with you when you go for a jog.

However, it’s not quite as pretty as the Versa, so its design might not be one for you if you plan to use it even when not working out.

Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro: Samsung has a lot of experience making smartwatches now, and the Gear Fit 2 Pro is arguably a decent alternative wearable device for dedicated fitness tracking, especially if you’re not looking to break the bank.

Because it’s a fitness band and not a smartwatch, it now retails at a much lower price than the Versa. We love its intuitive interface, great AMOLED display and good activity tracking features as the key highlights.

There are some issues such as a lack of apps – something the Versa suffers from too – but that’s something that’s improving all of the time. Plus it’s waterproof so you can take it into the pool too.

Why buy the Fitbit Versa?

If you loved the Ionic, you would love the Versa. In many ways, the Fitbit Versa is an improvement on the Ionic. It’s far better-looking, more lifestyle-friendly and has a similar feature-set – and all of this comes wrapped up in a device that costs significantly less money.

You can use it to monitor a huge range of activities too, including swimming, and it’s easy to use. Battery life is another feather in its cap; most other smartwatches on the market don’t come close.

However, as an actual smartwatch, it’s limited right now. This will hopefully change shortly when Fitbit rolls out planned updates, but it might be worth waiting until those are released before buying the Versa. Currently, it feels like a work in progress. Some users will find the lack of apps frustrating, and it’s disappointing that we still have to wait for features that we expect from a smartwatch, such as quick replies to messages.

The lack of built-in GPS is also a big miss and means you’ll be tethered to your phone when you’re out running. Although not the worst thing in the world, we’d prefer it not to be necessary.

The Versa is undoubtedly a step up from the Blaze, but right now it feels like a smartwatch for casual users who are looking to make small improvements to their lifestyle and try a smartwatch for the first time. With that in mind, serious runners would be better to consider the Ionic, or the slightly more expensive – but more attractive – Apple Watch Series 3 GPS.

If you love minimalist designs, then the Garmin Vivofit 4 is a device you have to check out. The Vivofit 4 is plain and simple. Both its design and features reflect a show of simplicity and elegance. In a sense, the designers of the fitness wearable were very economical in adding features to the strap. The device offers what you need rather than what you want. It takes away what your phone can do, and gives you all that remains. It is a perfect complement to people who love minimalist designs.

First, you will notice that it takes away the GPS and the heart-rate monitor. It then deducts the various notifications channeled to your wrist from your phone unlike what most modern wearable devices do.

To compensate for the features it got rid of, the fourth version of Garmin Vivofit boasts of an 11mm by 11mm color-screen with improved visuals and a longer lasting battery life that lasts over a year (according to the producer). It also adds a few other software capabilities to track your regular activities with a bit of improved accuracy.

Fitness tracker for everyday use.

Gulp. Primarily, the fitness wearable does not offer much, but it offers enough features to track your fitness. As for me, that is the only reason I love the Vivofit 4. If you love great designs, I am afraid this fitness tracker might disappoint you; but if you care about something utilitarian, this gadget should be somewhere at the top of your favorite listing.

When compared to other fitness wearable devices by Garmin (itself), Fitbit or Moov, Vivofit 4 is not as complicated; but it seems better when viewed under the lenses of “little is much.” In this edition, we took down this fitness wearable and explored the finest details of the Vivofit 4. We also tried as much to remain neutral as we presented our thoughts about the device. Let’s begin with:

Build Specifications

Just like any fitness wearable, the Garmin Vivofit 4 is packaged with the Vivofit 4 wearable (with an already mounted battery) and a user’s manual.

Design

As I had indicated in the beginning, the Vivofit 4 is not so good looking (in my opinion). This device’s shape takes after any conventional fitness devices with rectangular-shaped outlooks. The only noticeable divergence is the large shiny button placed at the base of the device to ease control and tilting of screens. Also as I had mentioned in the introduction, this wearable took an evident minimalist design.

It measures about 19mm wide and 9mm thick. This measure is a lot thinner than its predecessors (and by extension most other fitness wearable devices). The thinness makes the device take up a very small space on your wrist, which is positive.

The device is released in two main releases: the smaller release and the medium release. Of the two, the smaller release seems quite popular (perhaps due to its small size). But in case, you would love to have one that looks ordinary, well, you can go for the medium-sized. It doesn’t look too bad either.

Garmin Vivofit 4’s default straps are made of plastic. The company doesn’t offer options for leather or metallic straps. The plastic straps are light and easy to clean after a sweaty exercise. The straps were also rigid and made the device to have some fairly rigid oval-like shape that ensures that your Vivofit doesn’t fly off carelessly should the handle get loose.

Garmin backed up their device with four main colors: pure black, white, blue and purple colors. In essence, the pure white and the pure black options seem to be the market’s favorite. However, in case you would love to stand out, you can check out the purple option with some speckled effects to look classy.

But then, there is a tradeoff in its simple design and the rigid plastic straps; for “Mr. /Mrs. My-watch-is-better-than-yours“, there is nothing much to show off. Also, because of its small screen, the activity tracker performs in a manner that is just as economical as its design. It has a simple menu, less screen resolution and can at times get nagging when you want to snoop at it to check the time while working out.

Battery

The device uses a single CR2 battery. This battery is included during purchase. According to Garmin, the battery can last over a year without being recharged. Now, I admit that we were not too patient to wait for a whole year so that we can confirm this fact.

Even so, the underlying truth is that the battery does take a very long time before it demands to be replaced. This fact is also backed up by the absence of features that are popular for draining the battery like the GPS and the heart rate monitor. So, if you are tired of devices that require to be recharged every single day, you can let this device top your listing; it won’t disappoint.

• Color: The fitness tracker was released in black, white, blue and purple (spectacle)
• Compatibility: It is compatible with iOS (for iPhones) and Android.
• The device has an alarm, a stopwatch and a feature for finding your phone.
• Move IQ technology: this feature learns about your activities and your training trends. It then develops goals to improve your training based on the trends and improvements.
• Toe-to-toe feature: This feature allows you to connect and compete with a friend or child when training.
• True Up: This feature enables the device to detect (much like predict) the activity you are engaging in and then switches the screen to display your progress in the activity.
• Water Resistance: the device is also able to sustain submersion to some degree. At the moment, the Vivofit lacks IP-ratings. Thus the degree of resistance to water cannot be estimated even though other reviewers call it “Waterproof.”
• Connectivity: The fitness gadget connect to smartphones and other similar wearables through the use of a Bluetooth.

Top 3 Main Competitors Of The Garmin Vivofit 4

Garmin Vivofit 3: Vivofit 3 is the immediate predecessor of Garmin Vivofit 4. When considering the design of the two devices, the Vivofit 3 seems to be a lot simpler than the Vivofit 4. However, the Vivofit 4 throws in the elegance of design with its shiny single button for navigation and customization. On performance, there seems to be no much difference besides the fact that the Vivofit 4 has a colored screen and the additional feature of Toe-to-toe challenge that allows users to compete.

Fitbit Alta HR: The Fitbit Alta HR is perhaps the most formidable competitor to the Garmin Vivofit 4. It has a thin and sleek design that is coupled with features that rival Vivofit 4. Besides the ordinary activity tracking features of the Vivofit, the Fitbit adds the feature of a heart-rate counter and more responsive design. Generally, Fitbit Alta HR is a better performer when compared to the Vivofit 4. But then, there is a tradeoff in their pricing as the Fitbit Alta is higher priced than the Garmin Vivofit 4.

Moov Now: When it comes to simplicity and accuracy, Moov Now is perhaps the world’s simplest looking and so far most accurate fitness wearable (I have ever used). It too lacks a GPS and a heart rate counter just like the Vivofit 4. But it doesn’t end it there; it does away with the screen too! So, the device rests as a disc and can only communicate via the phone. It performs much like the Garmin Vivofit 4, but it has a higher accuracy, longer battery life and it is more responsive. The only challenge with the Moov is its lack of a display or a better way to communicate.

The Garmin Vivofit 4 In A Nutshell

Garmin Vivofit 4 has attracted a lot of hype among fitness wearable device sellers. At this point, we would love to cut through the hype and the sales-promotion language and present some genuine facts about the Vivofit 4. Below is a summary of our review.

Vivofit 4 was a “hit” on:

• Longer battery life: if a battery that lasts a week (like the one offered by smart watches) thrills you, then the one that lasts a year will throw you out of the water.
• Awesome color display: the Vivofit 4 features an 88px X 88px color screen that measures 11mmon each side. The screen is simple and clearer than any fitness wearable device produced before the Vivofit 4.
• Water resistant: The Garmin Vivofit 4 is water resistant, and it can tolerate rain/shower water and even swim in shallow depths. But it should not be submerged for long periods in water or any other liquid. At this point, I would also love to clarify that “water resistance” is not “waterproof” as posed by most reviewers. The device is water resistant, but it isn’t waterproof. If you submerge it deeply or for long periods, it can spoil.
• It is cheaper: This wearable costs less than a hundred dollars and has features that are hardly available in devices that are priced so cheaply.
• Durable: the device’s stripes are made from a combination of silicon and TPU that is hard to tear.
• It is simple and slim: this device is also simple to operate and is very thin and won’t add much weight to your wrist while training.

Vivofit 4 Was A Miss On:

• Lacks most features: this device lacked most of the modern features like the GPS and the heart rate monitor.
• Has a poor interface: the Vivofit 4’s interface is fairly “sketchy” and hard to use.
• It does not show most of the phone’s notifications like other devices.

Conclusion

Garmin Vivofit 4 introduces us to a view of the minimalist design. It has taken away most of the features that smartwatches and fitness wearable devices had dared to scoop from smartphones and instead presented only the remaining features that phones cannot match. I was personally attracted to the way in which Vivofit 4 has enhanced an intelligent way of predicting and tracking activities.

Of course, there is no such a thing as absolute accuracy in fitness wearable devices; there is always room for error. In the case of the Vivofit, the error seemed very small and honestly; tolerable. I too must admit that the lack of a GPS and a heart rate counter is a great drawback. But then, at its small price, I think it is tolerable to have it so. If you can find a way to move around the lack of features and tolerate the few notifications, you are likely to enjoy this device. As at the moment, the Garmin Vivofit 4 is honestly recommendable.

SmartSleep is a wearable device that looks like a grey headband with a power button with a light. The system consists of two sensors used for measuring when you are sleeping, and when you reach the so-called slow-wave sleep state. One sensor is placed behind the ear, and the other sensor is placed in the forehead on the fabric headband itself. There are two speakers covering the ears.

Slow-wave sleep is the same as deep sleep and is the third phase of the non-REM sleep. Here the heartbeat and breathing slow down significantly and the muscles relax. This is a goldmine to dig further into.

The brain works in mysterious ways, but we know that the brain records lots of information during the day from all the senses. All these inputs result in millions of new connections between the cells in the brain. It sounds overwhelming, and without some sort of clean up the mental hard drive would fill up quite quickly.

I think the best way to prove that this concept and gadget work is yo try it yourself. This is not a tool for helping you fall to sleep, or stay asleep which you will have to manage on your own. It can’t help you with sleep conditions such as insomnia, restless legs or sleep apnea. Talk to your doctor if you are in doubt about this product.

It is perhaps popularly known for the Shine 2. At CES 2017, Misfit broke the tradition by throwing in their Misfit Vapor. This happens to be the brand’s first touchscreen smartwatch, which was set to go on sale on October 31^st last year after months of delay. It is set to retail at $199.99.

Misfit Vapor smartwatch is simply irresistible. It has a sleek and modern touchscreen that puts everything one needs to stay active, connected and inspired right on one’s wrist. The vapor still feels much like any other Misfit product though with the incorporation of fitness goals at the heart of ones wrist-wear. It also offers more than has been seen before from misfit including apps for weather, messaging among others.

So, guess who it is best suited for…

Misfit Vapor activity watch is best suited for those people who are fitness conscious: people that want a tracker which is able to do a little bit more than just flash when one has reached their set step count. Of course, by using the phrase “best suited”, I mean it can also be used by other people besides just the fitness fans though not very advisable.

Design, Looks & Materials

The sleek watch features a 1.39- inch round AMOLED display that reaches 326 per inch. It is a round watch face. You will certainly love it if you have only used something like the Moto 360, which continues to have a flat tire look.

Misfits borrowed the accessibility concept from Samsung gear 2. It has a glass bezel that acts as a way to interact with the wearable. One can move fingers around the glass bezel much like a wheel to be able to select their apps of choice on the gadget. There’s a button on the vapor which is a click button to boot up the app selection menu.

Misfit Vapor is made of solid stainless steel with a satin finish that is 44mm in size. In addition, it just happens to be a “one- size fits all” deal which to some people may be a little too large for their wrists.

Now, to Mr. and Mrs. Beautiful, I must mention that the color choices are very limited. Gulp. …They include jet black or rose gold but the straps can be swiped easily to change the look. One strap is included in the box but one can buy other straps as desired from the misfit. There is a ton to chose from.

Then again, if you are just as color-blind as I, then don’t mind, that isn’t a big deal.

Some of the main features of the Misfit Vapor smartwatch are; a large round and bright display, GPS, Bluetooth for music and a heart rate tracker. Thinking about software, Android-wear was not considered contrary to many manufacturers. This was obviously done with an intention of creating its own software that will enable other useful features to be brought from competitors into vapor.

On the home screen, one can tap the clock so as to see the goal of the day. On accomplishing the set goal; some animated congratulation is displayed and on failure to complete it will share one’s stats for that day. There is also a shortcut for the weather, fitness and heart rate trackers.

The Vapor watch runs Android wear 2.0. It has a 1.39 inch AMOLED touchscreen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 2100 microprocessor that is coupled with a 4GB of internal storage. It uses both Bluetooth and WI-FI connectivity and water-resistant to a depth of up to 50 meters. It also has a virtual Touch Bezel for seamless scrolling and navigating.

In terms of functionality, the Vapor does everything a normal fitness tracker does and many more.

There are sleep and sports tracking as well as the heart rate monitor. One has to take their phone along so as to be able to track their runs since the vapor doesn’t have an inbuilt GPS but rather a connected one is used. It views and displays run and activity routes, metrics, and stats.

On display email, call, text and app notifications plus vibration alerts and alarms are accessible to users. One can connect a pair of headphones to the Vapor via Bluetooth and use 4GB of internal storage to store music for their exercise routine. The heart rate monitor isn’t on at all times but one can boost it from the home screen. It’ll also automatically take a reading in the morning and evening.

Comparison with Similar Activity Trackers

The Misfit Vapor has some qualities which are both similar to those of other brands of the same nature while others are different from them.

For instance, the Vapor is similar with others like the Tichwatch 2 Active in terms of connectivity in the sense that they are both compatible with Android phones. Another similarity with other brands is in terms of water-proof properties. The misfit Vapor smartwatch is waterproof up to 50 meters just like the Withings Go.

The Vapor is however different from other smartwatches in a variety of ways which are as follows:

The activity watch is different from other brands in the sense that most other brands have in-built GPS such as the Fitbit Iconic smartwatch while the Vapor smartwatch uses connected GPS whereby one has to carry their phone along so as to use the GPS.

The Misfit vapor in terms of weight is thicker as compared to others of a lighter weight such as the Tichwatch 2 Active smartwatch.

Misfit Vapor has a touch-sensitive bezel which can be used for seamless scrolling and navigating and for additional control options as compared with the LG watch sport that has a rotating bezel that scrolls menus, zoom in and so on.

With regards to the shape of the smartwatches, Misfit Vapor is round in shape as compared with its competition Fitbit Iconic smartwatch which is square in therefore the Vapor may be highly preferable to customers.

Misfit Vapor has a lower battery life of 2days as compared with other brands such as Huawei Fit (6 months), Jawbone Up 3 (7 days) and Withings Go (never needs charging).

Conclusion

Misfit Vapor smartwatch could be a great choice for fitness fanatics. Misfit’s first foray into smartwatches is an interesting step and offers up a lot of features but at quite a lower price and therefore may be quite affordable to many as compared with the more expensive brands like the LG watch sport.

With wearable fitness trackers being smarter and cheaper, Misfit could be said to be venturing into an already crowded market. Some of these competitors offer products at a more cheaper price like Huawei Fit, having a longer battery life of up to never requiring any charge like the Withings Go and having more apps as compared with the Misfit Vapor and better yet other brands are partnering with Google; it’s, therefore, unclear who may still be interested in the Misfit Vapor smartwatch. But still, one is welcome to try out the product for one never knows what good the watch might do them.

Waterproof is a huge plus.

The AYO Blue Light is capable of syncing with your biological clock to deliver what the user’s body needs at that time, be it sleep, revitalization, or a relief from jetlag.A lot of Chronobiology research has been implemented in the AYO Glasses, for example, it can send signals to the brain that will suppress the release of the sleep hormone; melatonin. • Light Sensors – This product has a sensor for ambient light. This is to ensure the right levels of light intensity during use. There are a number of lighting levels on this device, with an approximate light irradiance of 300μW/cm² and an approximate light frequency of 457nm. The AYO blue light is also free of Infrared and Ultraviolet rays which makes it clinically safe for use. Another useful safety feature is the low glare quality of the light.

• Connectivity – The connectivity of the AYO Glasses is powered by Bluetooth technology which provides easy paring with a smartphone.

How do you start up and how does it work?

1. Profile Creation – Download the AYO app from the iOS App Store or the Google Play Store depending on your smartphone. Create a profile on the app, pair your glasses with the phone, and you are ready for the next step.

2. Set Preferences – Take a few minutes to select your preferences based on lifestyle, travel, sleeping habits etc. This will allow for the algorithms on the app to carry out a robust analysis in order to provide the best solutions for the user. Based on the critical points analysis of the user’s preference settings, the app will develop the optimal sleep/wake timetable as well as activity levels for the user.

3. Select Program – Depending on the specific needs of the user, a selection of the appropriate program is made. There are numerous program modes on the app that control what the glasses will do. These modes include sleep, jet lag, energy boost etc.

AYO Light therapy glasses is the product of three years of exhaustive research and collaboration between some of the top minds in their respective field. Collectively, they had the goal to revolutionize the sleep/waking up process as well as the air travel recovery therapy with jet lag being a huge problem for may frequent air travelers. Together they have combined their expertise in engineering, design, fitness, and Chronobiology just to name a few in order to create the AYO prototype. The crowdfunding for the project is being hosted on Indiegogo and the retail price is around $299.
