You don't have to schlep to the beach or Central Park to hang out with the boys and catch some rays....downtown is always hopping at the Hudson River Park- a magnificent rehabilitation of the Piers. Hudson River Park is the largest open space project to undergo construction in Manhattan since the completion of Central Park. The 550 acre park extends from 59th Street south to Battery Park.

Pier 45 / Christopher Street Pier is of course, the gayest. Lots of hotties sunning themselves when the weather is nice!

There is so much to do at the park....

free concerts, free movies, dance events, fishing, batting cages, golf lessons, sailing, swimming, kayaking, heck, you can even take trapeze lessons and end up working for Cirque du Soleil!

Most areas of the park, including the piers, close at 1 AM. The bike path is open 24 hours-a-day, and several areas (such as playgrounds) close at dusk. Some special areas of the park may close earlier. Park bathrooms close at dusk.

Gay Pride Amsterdam is the yearly highlight for gay Amsterdam. This year the main Amsterdam Pride weekend will be from August 1 till 3, 2008. Don't miss this thrilling weekend, as Amsterdam Pride is one of the biggest and most special gay prides around the globe! With street parties all weekend long, the best club circuit parties and of course the famous Canal Parade on Saturday.

For the thirteenth time the extravagant Canal Parade will be held during Amsterdam Pride 2008. With 250.000 spectators this event is the third largest in Amsterdam.

If you want to be a spectator of the Canal Parade we suggest you find a spot somewhere along the Prinsengracht or Amstel in the old city of Amsterdam. Also at the Stopera a lot of people are watching the boats come by. Many enjoy the parade standing on a bridge over the Prinsengracht.

The parade happens Saturday August 2nd, between 14:00 and 18:00.

A unique aspect this year is that the minister for the emancipation of homosexuals, Mr. Plasterk, will join the Canal Parade.

Last year Amsterdam Gay Pride drew in a record amount of visitors. Some 500,000 people watched the Canal Parade, where a record 72 boats took part.

For the first time there were also boats with heterosexuals, gay youths under 16, city boats and the mentally handicapped.

EuroPride 2008 - Swedish Sin, Breaking Borders

EuroPride 2008, presented by Stockholm Pride, will be a ten-day celebration featuring a unique combination of politics and partying. This year’s theme is “Swedish Sin, Breaking Borders”, focusing on international LGBT issues.

The two festival areas – Pride House and Pride Park – will offer visitors a wide range of experiences, including music, entertainment, cuisine, debates, seminars, talks, workshops, theater and, last but not least, the opportunity for mingling, networking, friendship and romance.

Throughout the festival, EuroPride will have a high profile across the city in association with museums, galleries, cinemas, clubs and shops. The Pride Parade, which has grown over the years to become something of a street party, will make its way through Stockholm on Sunday August 2. Last year’s parade featured 50,000 participants and half a million spectators.

The theme of this year’s festival represents a shift in focus beyond Sweden’s borders. The 1960s was the age of soft-core Swedish pornography – a glorious combination of nature, politics and nudity. 2008 sees the birth of a new concept: Swedish Sin.

“Here in Sweden, we’ve come a long way when it comes to LGBT rights,” says Sofia Sjöö, spokesperson for Stockholm Pride. “But in many countries, our rights are seen as sins. Attention needs to be brought to attacks on lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people around the world, and action needs to be taken. The Pride movement is an important part of the process.”

The official EuroPride song comes courtesy of the internationally-acclaimed group BWO. “The Bells of Freedom” is three and a half minutes of pure pop pleasure, advocating the rights of every individual to make the choices and live the life they want to.

“The wedding bells in the song aren’t just there because they sound good – they also send out a political message,” explains band member and producer Alexander Bard. “This is a creative, inclusive way of promoting the rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people from across Europe.”

Stockholm EuroPride will begin on July 25 and end on August 3, 2008. Stockholm Pride, which broke the record for spectator numbers in 2007, is the biggest Pride festival in the Nordic region. EuroPride was first held in Stockholm in 1998, and Stockholm Pride has since decked the city out in the colors of the rainbow each year, both literally and figuratively.

Gay Brazil - More Welcoming Than Ever Before - HOMOPHOBIA is to be Outlawed

Brazilian chief Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, has held the First National Conference of Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, Transvestites and Transsexuals to condemn the biblical belief that homosexuality is wrong!

Brazil Without Homophobia is a national program run by the Lula administration that teaches that homosexual orientation is unchangeable, and seeks to construct a culture in Brazil that is "affirming" towards homosexuality.

The president of Brazil says “opposing” homosexuality makes you a sick person, and he believes such thoughts need to be criminalized.

Calling for “the criminalization of homophobia,” Lulu said opposition to homosexuality is “perhaps the most perverse disease impregnated in the human head.”

If the bill was to pass, violators will face up to five years in prison!

Brazil is very much a country of contrasts. When someone hears the word Brazil, one thinks of the great Amazon forest, fantastic beaches, great soccer players, Carnival time - and that's all.

Brazil, the most important country in South America, certainly has MUCH more to offer - warm people, great cities with everything from slums to high technology, a wide range of weather patterns, an awesome mixture of cultures and races - and much more!

Gay Italy! Gay Italian Wins Discrimination Case !

Big news this week in Italy!

The Italian government was ordered to pay $160,000 to a gay man who received a driver's license for the disabled after he volunteered information on his sexual orientation to military authorities!

Danilo Giuffrida, 27, said he told officials about his homosexuality when he took a physical after being called up in 2000 for Italy's mandatory year of military service, which has since been abolished.

Giuffrida told The Associated Press in a telephone interview from his hometown, Catania, that he had hoped to avoid service and keep working to help support his family. Giuffrida was disqualified for psychological reasons.

"It's the old assumption that if one is homosexual then he is also psychologically disturbed," said Aurelio Mancuso, president the main Italian gay rights group, Arcigay.

Italy military officials sent paperwork to motor-vehicle officials in Catania, who changed his standard driver's license to one for the disabled!

Giuffrida said the disabled license must be renewed every year instead of every 10 years, as is the case for standard licenses! - A judge in Catania, Sicily, ordered the Transport and Defense Ministries to pay damages to Giuffrida in a ruling handed down this past week. - Danilo said he wants to use some of the money to buy a new car....since he was deemed disabled, does that mean he will get a "handicap sticker" for better parking???

Gay Cowboys on Big Brother and Lance Bass Dances With The Stars

CBS has announced the cast of Big Brother 10 which premiers this Sunday at 8 pm and among the housemates is 35-year-old gay rodeo competitor Steven Daigle from Texas.

Steven sees himself as being extremely good at reading people and then manipulating them into doing what he wants them to do. He feels he is unique and random and claims that everyone who meets him likes him.

Former 'N Sync star Lance Bass has allegedly signed up for the next season of ABC's dance show Dancing With The Stars and rumors has it that producers may be planning a gay twist on the show for the out and proud singer.

According to the New York Daily News, Bass may be paired with a male pro: "... we hear network execs are already fretting over whether or not to pair the openly gay pop star with a male or female dance partner. A gay ballroom dancer? Color us surprised!"

ABC is making no immediate comments. Maybe Lance can sqaure dance with Steven?

Not So Gay Dubai - Just Say NO - To Sex, Drugs and Rock n' Roll

Today the city of Dubai is one of the wealthiest and most modern anywhere, boasting the highest skyline in the Middle East including the two of the tallest hotels in the world, and soon, the tallest building in the world! We did a story a while back on DUBAI and the amazing (and beautiful) growth they are experiencing there.

Even though I would love to see it - as a gay person, it would be difficult to travel there I would think. There were some stories online recently that spoke about the  fifth Dubai Desert Rock Festival and all the issues with sex and drugs.

"We are here to celebrate rock music in all its hedonistic, sex-and-drugs-and-rock'n'roll glory," wrote John Clarke in The Times.

"But this is also a Muslim state. There are breaks between sets for prayers. The audience and bands are advised not to remove their T-shirts or engage in 'any public demonstrations of affection'. No 'offensive hand gestures' are permitted and crowdsurfers face immediate ejection. So not quite Iggy Pop country then."

Apart from the hotels, there is only one public bar - inevitably, an Irish one - where visitors can drink. The rapidly growing number of expatriates have to apply for a licence to drink at home. Many don't, and rely on contacts with The Heineken Man, as the importers are known.

But it doesn't matter - as long as you don't get caught or openly disrespect the laws! Prostitution is rife but purveyed in hotel bars, not on the street.

Homosexuality is also illegal. Rob Harkavy, of gay travel company Respect Holidays says that he would refuse to take a booking to Dubai on principle.   If you know the "right" people and the right places in Dubai, there is plenty of gay life. Some of the gay spots in Dubai you can even read about in the Spartacus Directory. However, you can't compare the gay life here in Dubai with that of Western Europe. Here, it's almost all "underground" and there are risks involved. - Do we really want to vacation that way??

Many gay people do live in Dubai and, as long as you're quiet and don't draw attention to yourselves, you should be fine. Finding other gay people is, however, a big challenge. It can be a problem to find hotel allowing gay people to order one bedroom with one bad, or to rent some other Dubai property for their vacation. However there are many gay men & women there, and as long as they don't flaunt it publicly everywhere you go, there is no problem whatsoever. - In other words, keep the closet door closed tightly.

Drugs ARE NOT tolerated.  A Swiss man imprisoned for 'possession’ of three poppy seeds on his clothing after he ate a bread roll at Heathrow. Among substances banned by Dubai are foods containing poppy seeds; melatonin, which is taken to ease the effects of jetlag; codeine, a common ingredient in pain relief medication, and any trace of drugs such as cannabis, however small.

I have always wanted to go to Prague!

I thought it was very beautiful and heard it was very gay and gay friendly. WOW! What a great trip! My partner and I were just there last month and we were worried 6 days might be too long. NOT AT ALL. We could have stayed 10 days easily! There is so much to see and do.

Prague is a city of unique and awesome beauty. A wealth of incredible buildings, structures and monuments that span several eras. Architectural forms, ranging from Romanesque and Gothic through Renaissance and Baroque to Art Nouveau, Cubism and Deconstructionist - amazing beauty!

Seeing the city in all its glory requires several FULL days. Awesome structures and locations such as Prague Castle, Old Town Square, Charles Bridge, Lesser Town Square and Petrin Hill are must-sees. But quarters outside the centre, such as Zizkov and Vinohrady, also have plenty to offer to those interested in sightseeing, dining, and of course there is the amazing beer and a good selection of wines.

The travel group PRAGUE SAINTS arranged our visit. They are a British owned gay-run travel company providing accommodation and tour services for gay visitors to the Czech Republic. And they own a popular local neighborhood bar called THE SAINTS. Prague Saints has been featured in Lonely Planet, Time Out, Fodors, Let’s go Europe, Prague in your pocket, Out North West, DNA magazine Australia, Guide Mag USA and Sapphic Central!

The gay scene is very big here, with lots of cafes, bars, nightclubs, and several saunas. And the American dollar exchange is great at most places. Most clubs have no cover and drinks are reasonable.
By Western standards the Czech Republic remains a fairly cheap country. Locally produced food and drink (especially beer) are very good value. Some tourist-orientated restaurants and bars have sharply increased their prices in the last couple of years but they still remain reasonable when compared to those in more Western capitals. The one aspect of a visit that can be considered expensive is accommodation. Hotels in the centre, especially in high season, often charge well over 100 euros per night. However, there are deals to be had - and Prague Saints can help you.

Despite its membership of the EU, the Czechs have not yet joined the Euro (although plan to do so sometime in the next few years...) and the currency is the crown which hovers around 30 to the pound, 24 to the euro and 22 to the US dollar. (as of July 2008)

The Czech Republic has become a much more liberal and gay-friendly destination in recent years and the Prague gay scene, mainly centred around the Vinohrady area (close to the city centre), is particularly vibrant and accessible. More than half a dozen new bars or clubs have opened up in the last year alone and there are around 25 gay bars, discos and saunas in the city as a whole.

Homosexuality in the Czech Republic is legal and the minimum age of consent is 15. There are no laws concerning tourists with HIV/AIDS. The number of HIV/AIDS sufferers in the country is low. In keeping with the mood of increasing tolerance the Czech parliament recently approved a law allowing gay partnerships.

Our Prague trip was amazing fun!

I had expected it to be a laid back, relaxing trip....let me just tell you, I saw sunrise on 3 mornings! These boys know how to drink and have a good time!

Wednesdays everyone goes to TERMIX. Popular with both gay men and lesbians, Termix is a newer club with a pop interior. Free admission, comfy seating, and an intimate dance floor make this a great place to pop in and enjoy a social cocktail before or after dinner. Thursdays (and weekends) are especially good at The TEMPLE. Completely redesigned, renamed and revamped, the former Pinocchio's appears to have risen a notch in the sophistication stakes. Temple is inhabited almost exclusively by rent boys and their fans and customers. Lots of fun, and very friendly crowd. - - We previously did a story about legal male prostitution in Prague. - - Owner Joe Brewster has done a great job with the place and upstairs are beautiful rooms and apartments for rent. manager Alexander (the Great!) will take care of all of your wants a needs. Saturday nights, VALENTINO is the place to be and be seen! Since opening its doors in late 2005 and swallowing its next door neighbor just a couple of months later, Valentino has risen quickly to become the leading gay venue in the city. Ideally located on Vinohradska street, the main thoroughfare in gay town, it is also comfortably the biggest place on the scene with three floors, four bars, two dance floors and two darkrooms. You can easily get lost in here. Packed and extremely hot and sweaty at the weekend, everyone seems to come here after midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.  There are also tables outside in the summer. Feeling sexy? ALCATRAZ was big fun! It is listed as a leather-levi-uniform club. Alcatraz is actually two venues: a typical Czech pub (but with a gay clientèle) and underneath a gay sex club, particularly popular with the more masculine crowd - but a wide variety of people come here for sex and fun. Although to some eyes the place can seem a bit rough, it is well liked due to its lack of attitude and overall friendliness. The sex club is well equipped with dark rooms, video cabins and various other specialty rooms. They have naked parties every Sunday. There is a modest entrance fee.The pub is open Monday to Saturday from 7pm to 2am. The sex club opens daily from 10pm to 5am. 24 hour fun can be had at DRAKES. Bar, boyz, cabins, private dancers, movies - it's all here! Slings, cages, glory holes....Europe's biggest dungeon! A bit out of the way location in Smichov on the other side of the river. But lots of fun. - Zborovska 50, Prague 5 Smichov.

Food was hit and miss in Prague for us. However, a regular staple on our trip was CELEBRITY CAFE. This ultra gay friendly split level cafe sits in the heart of the Prague gay quarter and has a large gay following. Great for a drink during the afternoon when most of the other bars are closed. And for the view, not the food, you should check out the famous TV TOWER. At least go inside for a cocktail and the amazing sweeping views of the city. Over 200 meters soaring into the clouds, the Tower is a dominant landmark in the city skyline. The architecture is accentuated with a bizaree yet thought provoking series of huge black infants that adorn the facia of the tower! Kind of strange.....

Sex is really everywhere in this town - as most European cites - But if you feel the need for a hot tub and a little more sex, there are  serveral saunas around town.

Babylonia is a very nice sauna situated on two floors right in the centre of the city. It is the biggest sauna in Prague and also the most popular. They get very busy on Fridays and Saturdays between 5pm and 10pm, however, you can meet people here any time during opening hours. Sauna Marco is a nice quiet sauna visited mainly by Czechs. very small, they have a sauna, steam-room, video cabins, solarium, a small whirlpool and a cozy little bar with a big aquarium. Karel, their cute bartender, is very chatty and you’re likely to get drawn into a conversation with the locals. Marco gets busy on Fridays and Saturdays after 5pm but you’ll meet people there in any late afternoon. We did spot 2 porn stars here! Had lots of fun and the staff was great! The transgender man who made national news earlier this year when he revealed he was pregnant has given birth to a healthy baby girl.

Thomas Beatie, 34, became pregnant through artificial insemination. The Oregon man is resting and healthy. The birth was natural.

He was registered under a fictitious name and separated from other birthing mothers. - He actually gave birth Sunday, but news hit the Internet just hours ago.

Beatie, who was born a woman, kept his female sex organs.

"I actually opted not to do anything to my reproductive organs because I wanted to have a child one day," he told Oprah Winfrey earlier this year. "I see pregnancy as a process and it doesn't define who I am."

Police Ready For Possible Attacks For Budapest Gay Pride

Budapest police are preparing for organised attacks by Hungary's far right during the upcoming gay pride parade. Far-right leaders Gyorgy Budahazy and Laszlo Toroczkai have published a statement on the internet, inviting "Hungarian patriots" to travel to Budapest on July 5 to "protect Hungary's honour" from the international gay community.

    Police are reluctant to say how many far-right protesters they are expecting to disrupt the event and decline to give any details of police preparations for security reasons.

    But police are expecting harsher and more frequent attacks than during last year's gay pride march when a dozen people, including a German citizen, were beaten in various parts of the city by skinheads and eight attackers were arrested, said the paper.

    Only one anti-gay demonstration has been officially registered. Rendszervalto Forum, a far-right group, will follow up the gay pride parade by marching the same route after the event.

    On June 11, the Budapest police chief published an online statement banning this year's gay pride event, claiming that it would obstruct main traffic arteries in central Budapest. Following protests by numerous civil organisations, the Budapest mayor and liberal politicians, he withdrew the ban the following day.

Top Israeli Court Refuses to Ban Gay Pride Parade Event

Israel’s Supreme Court has rejected a petition to ban this year’s Jerusalem Gay Pride parade, an annual event that has been the focus of violent controversy in the Holy City in the past.

The petition, submitted by a group of hardline Jewish activists, called the parade scheduled for Thursday a “provocation.”

Jerusalem municipality had also objected to the event, with city spokesman Gidi Schmerling warning that it “harms social relations.”

But the court said in its ruling that the organizers of the event declared that they did not intend the parade to be provocative.

In 2005 an ultra-orthodox Jew stabbed three participants and was subsequently sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The following year the venue was switched to a sports stadium following violent protests by ultra-orthodox Jews and rightwing opponents who consider the event “a profanity” of the Holy City.

Last year about 2,500 gays and activists marched down King David Street despite protests by thousands of people.

Jerusalem Open House, the gay rights group organizing the event, said the parade would put Jerusalem and Israel “to the true test of democracy and civil rights.”

“Though we expect the struggle to be tough, we will not let the threats of violence silence us or challenge Israeli democracy,” the group said in a statement.
