Do you ever go to a restaurant and say to the person you are dining with, ” I’ll share with you, if you share with me?”

If this is the case , we have a surprise in store for you. If you come to dine with us in the next 12 days you won’t have to share to get a little bit of everything. That’s right, you can be as greedy as you want and keep all your food to yourself!

We are very excited to be participating in the 5th Annual PEI Dine Around and also really excited about offering our Seafood Platter again this year. Our platter includes a 1/2 of a 1lb lobster, pan seared haddock and scallops served up with seasonal vegetables with your choice of potato or rice. PLUS you get our all you can eat appetizers and dessert too! All this for $35 (plus tax and gratuities)

So like I said – no sharing needed. You can eat it all and have your cake too!

(piece of advice: the cake is yummy so try to save room)

Our Seafood Platter will be on our menu for a limited time ( June 17-June 28) so come by today and beat the summer traffic.

We can’t wait to serve you!

For the 2nd year in a row we are thrilled to be recognized by you our customers with a 2013 Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor. This prestigious award, places us in the top-performing 10% of all businesses worldwide on TripAdvisor. It is given to businesses that consistently earn high ratings from TripAdvisor travellers.

The success of our business depends on you our customers. During your visit we would love to hear how your meal was. Good or bad. We can’t fix things unless you tell us that something is wrong. This is how we improve. By learning what we could do differently and by helping our employees learn how to become the best they can be. We encourage you to tell your server or a manager ways that we could improve, whether it be on the meal itself or the restaurant in general.

We also LOVE to hear how much you enjoyed your meal and your service . Over the last 55 years many have signed our guest book in house and many of our servers like to flip back to see if their name was mentioned. You can still do this and now you can sign our virtual guest book from anywhere in the World!

If you haven’t already, we would appreciate it if you took a minute to visit us on Trip Advisor and share your dining experience and photos with others. Nothing speaks louder then the words of our friends and valued customers.

Thanks again for your kind words and reviews – and here’s to another great year for 2013!

Now when I say spring cleaning I really mean de-cluttering. We like to hold onto things, alot of things – thinking that it may come in handy one day or another. Sometimes it does other times it just gets pushed further into the closet. Over the last 55 years – we’ve held onto ALOT. So I took it upon myself to go through a bit of this to make room for the things yet to be held onto. I had a couple of productive weeks trying to decipher what was “junk” and what was worth keeping. Amongst the pile marked keep, I found a box of Prince Edward Island posters. The poster, which was a collage of photos made me appreciate how lucky we are to still be here 55 years later. This 1970′s poster was a blast to the past featuring businesses that have since closed their doors. Such places included Idle Oare’s, Bonnie Brae, Rainbow Valley, Fairyland & Woodleigh Replica’s to name a few. I feel honoured to be part of a business that has survived the many highs and lows that the years have had. And I feel blessed to have so many patrons who have supported us , not just in the good years but the tough ones as well. You are the people that keep us in business and we are grateful to be able to carry on the tradition that began 55 years ago.

To celebrate and say thank you to all our valued customers we are offering a celebratory opening week special.

You can always tell when summer is just around the corner when it’s time for the Savour Food & Wine Show.

The PEI Restaurant Association organizes this one of a kind event that allows guests to experience Island culinary cuisine at it’s best. Celebrating their 5th year – and only getting better. This years event offers over 45 vendors including a wide variety of favourite Island restaurants (including yours truly) and locally made wine, beer and spirits. With all this how could you possibly go wrong?

It’s a great place to mingle with friends while sampling delicious creations. It also gives guests the opportunity to speak with local restaurateurs and try foods from restaurants you may never had the chance to visit before.

This year we are serving up our homemade seafood chowder loaded with baby clams, haddock and of course Island Lobster. Accompanied by steamed Island Blue Mussels and a taste of our ever addictive and delicious rolls. Our food is simple but in our eyes why dress something up that already tastes so good?

Savour celebrates and promotes the talents of our Island’s Food & Drink artisans. On Thursday May 23rd, come and support your Island by attending this year, and I promise – you won’t regret it!

For tickets and more information please visit www.pe.edining.c/savourindex.asp

If you ever find yourself struggling with the thought ” I don’t know what to get so-and-so”. Don’t waste another minute giving yourself a headache.

You can simply drop us an email or pick up the phone and we can put a smile on your face that says. “This is the perfect gift!”

Many people who currently do not live on PEI but have family and friends that do, often call to buy gift certificates for their loved ones. We can either mail these out or hold onto them until those love ones come to eat. Which is the perfect idea, as then you don’t have to be wondering if your valuable purchase will arrive in one piece or on time.

Our gift certificates are rather simple – a symbol of days gone by. No rechargeable gift cards here folks. Just a nice sized piece of card stock that you can personalize yourself(or we can). They are also one size fits all. You purchase it as a meal ticket and the gift-ee can choose if they wish to have our 1lb standard lobster meal or something else from the sea or land upon arrival. If they choose to “upsize” their meal they can also do that upon arrival. If this method is not to your liking we also have monetary value gift certificates available – you choose the amount and we’ll make it happen! All of our gift certificates are good for a year, although I do not believe we’ve ever turned down an expired one to date. But that’s just because we feel that when someone loves you ( or us) enough to buy a gift certificate for a delicious meal it should be honoured no matter what.

Smiles are free so contact us today for yours!

Recently we participated in a Job Fair. Standing in a booth for 7 hours isn’t my ideal day but it’s not only a good way to meet potential employees and get your business out there but it’s also a fun place to just people watch. You do ALOT of people watching in 7 hours even if you are not doing it on purpose. This particular event attracts people of all sorts. Students are bused in from local high schools; presumably their first job hunting experience. New immigrants studying English as a second language are there to find employment that will give them not only a pay cheque but also the opportunity to practice their English. University students searching for a summer employment and Mature workers searching for a job that they can picture themselves in for the long run.

Now, with all these different types of potential employees how would we possibly decide who would be a good fit for our business you ask? It’s like they say ” You never get a second chance to make a first impression”. With me ( an avid people watcher) your first impression starts even before we meet. I may have noticed that you dropped off a resume at every booth nearby – this to me says that you don’t really want to work with US but that you just want a job. Any job. Any where. Doing anything. I may have noticed that your teacher has been constantly reminding you to quiet down and stop horsing around. Do I want to hire someone who will behave like this in the workplace?

It was brought to my attention that I was not the only people watcher there that day when a woman approached our booth with a question for us. What do you look for in a first impression and how important is it? She was not a job searcher or a journalist just a grandmother collecting information for her grandson. She had been people watching and was curious how much we read into first impressions.

Personally first impressions mean the world of difference. I like to see people dressed for the occasion - not that I expect high school students to be dressed in a suit and tie but not in sweat pants, shirts with offensive language , and definitely not torn or dirty clothing. Clean and tidy would be nice because that’s how I would want you to appear at work. In a world that so many people are scent sensitive, it still amazes me that some people still pile on the perfume, cologne or smell of the lunch they just ate. There is nothing worse than trying to have a conversation with someone and the only thing you keep thinking about is how do I get this person to leave before I start coughing or sneezing uncontrollably? Or should I offer them a breathe mint? First impressions are memorable, I may not remember your name but if you are positive, confident and have that I can attitude – your face will be engrained in my memory. You don’t have to have alot of experience because we are willing to train. Don’t get me wrong experience makes our job easier but we look for people who are eager to learn and want to do be good at their job.

My advice to job seekers is to make that first impression so memorable that we can’t forget you but for all the right reasons.

It’s easy to say yes but you should really know what you are getting into before you answer too quickly. We are a seasonal operation, we are open for the season beginning June 1st and close near the middle of October. For many of the staff the month of June only offers part time or casual work, the shifts and hours per shift increase as the summer gets rolling. During the months of July, August and even September the work is plentiful and demanding. Although our hours of operation are only from 4-8:30 at most, the shifts are longer and during that time you are, for lack of a better phrase “working your butt off”. It is a busy operation and on average we feed 500 people a day ! That means that you have to be ready, willing and able to bring your “A” game on a daily basis. We employ upwards to 100 employees each season and believe strongly in communication and team work. If you are not busy we expect you to help your fellow colleges. One day they will repay the favour. We provide On-The-Job training to all of our new employees no matter the position. You will be teamed up with another employee that you will work along side of to learn the ropes. There is also plenty of room to climb the proverbial corporate ladder as well. Many staff ( including myself) started out working on the dishwasher and have since moved into either front end staff or remained behind the scenes preparing our delicious meals. A good number of our staff return year after year, I like to think it’s because we think of our staff as family more so then employees. But no matter the reason our track record speaks for itself. Now that you know alittle bit more and your answer is still YES, just click the link below and check out the positions we have available for the upcoming season!

We have joined forces with the members of Gulf Shore Consolidated Band and their parents to create a new fundraiser. In the past they have had a Traditional Haunted Woods in St. Anne’s. As this was a very weather dependent & sometimes too scary for all ages this year they have created a yummy alternative.

On Friday October 26th the Band students from Gulf Shore Consolidated are holding their first ever Spooktacular Spaghetti Supper fundraiser! Your Halloween themed dinner includes; Spaghetti and meatballs, Caesar salad, Garlic Bread, Dessert and Beverage and will be served to you by the Grade 9 members of the Band wearing their best Halloween costumes. In our lower dining room, the younger members of the Band will have Halloween fun and games set up for the whole family to enjoy. So why not make a night of it and come down to New Glasgow for an evening of delicious food and fun? And feel free to wear your costume too!

Doors open at 5pm Tickets are $10 for Adults, $5 for kids (12 and under) in advance or $12 and $5 at the door. Band members will be selling tickets or you can reserve them by emailing ktmaclaine@edu.pe.ca
