Welcome to our blog we hope to use this to share some of the many wonderful happenings from Haiti. We have served as full time missionaries in Haiti for 8 years and are always happy to return after a visit stateside. Our mandate from the Lord is to “wash the island” with the Word of God. Our primary focus is to raise-up national leaders to preach the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ and shepherd His people.

I spent an hour at the site of the mass graves early this morning All I could say was, “Lord have mercy on us; forgive us for not being thankful for the sacrifice of your Son”. Estimates are 200,000 people were buried in this barren field just north of the capital. A makeshift cross draped with pieces of black string… overlooks the site. There is a compelling line in the movie Gladiator which goes something like this, “brothers what we do in life echoes in eternity”. In other words what we do affects history. Jesus said it this way, “when you have done something to the least of these you have done it unto me” (paraphrase). I believe humanity is impacted and heaven records what we do! With your great help and God’s blessing the following was accomplished in Haiti in 2009:

Ministry to Haiti in 2009
Preached to thousands in Haiti and in the USA
Hundreds of Haitians received Jesus and were baptized
Building a new church building for New Life Debout
Built a new church building for New Life Savon Gras
9 new ISOM Bible schools planted
7 ISOM Bible Schools graduated for a total of 161 students
Note: total amount of graduates from Haiti alone are 745 since 2003
Pastor Joseph Lyvinx (Coty) continues to progress on the Creole translation for the ISOM Bible school curriculum and will be finished in 2010
3 primary schools operating daily in 2009 with 130 students (50 of these kids get a hot meal)
1 church plant
Sent 5 Haitians to school for higher learning
Hosted 16 short term missions teams
Conducted 2 disaster relief missions
Facilitated the start of 3 Haitian micro businesses
Living Water Intl’l (LWI) National Team repaired 150 broken wells
LWI American Teams repaired 50 broken wells
Facilitating village makeovers
Three Thousands meals served at missions ground
Clean water provided for over 100 Haitians villages
25 Haitian staff members working with New Life Haiti

New Life Orphanage in Haiti

Dear Brothers and Sister,

God has provided 20 acres of land in Haiti for us to start an orphanage.

It is located on the new road that goes to the Dominican Republic and bypasses Trou Du Nord, but is close to Cahesse where we started our ministry in Haiti. After we complete the orphanage we desire to build a nursing home at a later date. The orphanage will be built to hold 100 kids for now. The property has a well but it is not deep enough for our needs so a well will need to be drilled also. Please look at the pictures and pray and see how God would have you help with taking care of orphans in Haiti.

The property is near a new housing development that Food for the Poor recently constructed. We are excited about answering the call from God to take care of the orphans and widows.

Just got a text message from Pastor Rick in Port Au Prince, Haiti and he said Michael W Smith was going to be there today! Cool. Last week he met Franklin Graham and the week before he met with James Robinsons staff. I am so proud of him and know you guys are too! But most f all I know God is pleased that we are taking care of his children in Haiti.

We began our relief effort in Croix de Bouquet, a suburb of Port au Prince. This is the first family I talked with, a family whose entire house and belongings were turned to rubble. I was so reluctant to talk with them as I knew I had few if any words of comfort. The despair around us was so intimidating but I smiled and said, “God bless you”. They smiled and continued to stack pieces of block and to cook breakfast on the ground. It was as if they had to do something to give life some structure and meaning. We sent them food over from our work site and told them they were in our prayers. They waved and smiled again. Our efforts seemed so small. Pastor Rick

Update From Haiti

We sent them food over from our work site and told them they were in our prayers. They waved and smiled again. Our efforts seemed so small.

Thousands of people were wandering around amidst the rubble of Port au Prince. Most had this dazed look in their eyes, traumatized by the fear and devastation. I thought of words like catastrophic and epic but nothing seemed to quite capture or express what we saw. We were just left speechless.

I kept thinking, "this is their capital city’ what if it had been Wash. D.C.? People were looking for food, water, shelter and I think some sense of reality again.

This little boy was with his mother and two brothers walking past our work site in Croix de Bouquet. I felt impressed by the Holy Spirit to talk with them. They told me how their house and fallen on them while their mother was at the local market. They had found little holes to crawl thru to get out and were so thankful to be alive. Many of their neighbors were gone but they did not know where. I asked when they had eaten. She said it had been a long time. I gave her money for food and water and put some antibiotic cream from our first aid kit on the children’s wounds.

We all prayed together and then went back to work on the broken well. I reminded myself, "that little is much when God is in it"

These men worked hard to repair the wells – they are our heroes. In the picture they are Tcholo, Jose, pastor Rick Hutchinson, Gelin, Tfonfon and Tdoudou. Herbert is absent from the photo.
