Following the play there, I checked out James’ MySpace and found his EP available for free.

James’ music is definitely folk through and through… just a voice, guitar and meaningful lyrics.

The first thing you’ll notice is.. it’s a shop. You can buy A LOT of concert recordings here.  “What’s it doing on New Musical Order?” we hear you cry! Well, Wolfgang and his chums are actually giving away a good number of free recordings on the site, too.

You’ll find all sorts here…. I’m currently listening to a free stream of a Fleetwood Mac gig from 1970 (it appears all concerts are streamable for free), but you can download so much too… from Aimee Mann and Al Kooper through British Sea Power and The Mountain Goats.

So, where does it all come from?

 In 2003, Wolfgang’s Vault acquired master recordings from the archives of Bill Graham Presents. These live concerts were recorded at legendary venues like the Fillmore East and Winterland between 1965 and the late 1980s.

Then, in early 2006, they augmented the Graham archives by acquiring the archives of the King Biscuit Flower Hour, the nationally famous syndicated rock radio broadcasts of live concerts from the 1970s and ‘80s. That year they also added the Silver Eagle Cross Country archive of country music concerts. In 2007 the Record Plant and Dawson Sound catalogs were added, and in 2008 they added the Daytrotter and Noise Pop catalogs.

And they’re not stopping there, with more Concert Vaults in the works!

Sadly, it does seem that most of the free downloads are from the last 2 or 3 years, but as mentioned above every concert appears to be available for free streaming via the site.

So if you love classic gigs, you’re gonna LOVE Wolfgang’s Vault.

I can tell you that the EP is available for free from Optrimus Discos (their record label?), and contains 5 tracks of what I would describe as “mellow punk”. Think White Stripes, with a bit more punk.

Interestingly, all the vocals are in English, which helps.

Despite the difficulty in obtaining it, and it’s punky nature… I quite like it. You might too, so why not download it from here?

Hosted by American, Tony Reno, the show is a half-hour in length and features music from all over Asia.  The only format restriction is that all the songs played on Dragon Radio are sung in the native language of origin.

Dragon Radio tries not to repeat playing the same bands over and over, but on occasion will play new tracks from bands we have featured in the past.

If you don’t know copyright, it lasts for about 75 years (depending on the region). After that, the work becomes the property of everyone, and we can use or repurpose it as we wish.

To that end, this resource is quite cool. There’s at least 50 tracks available for download - mostly blues, but I must admit I haven’t been through them all.

Chris Trout is someone I’d NEVER heard of. Ever. That is until I got talking to Chris Ovenden over at Banjolin. He’s been developing Chris Trout’s website, and finally launched it to the world this week.

Chris Trout is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and journalist born in 1966. His websites is becoming the definite archive of his work, collecting - it appears - everything he’s ever been involved in, including his music.

When I say music, I mean 21 albums of the stuff! All available to stream absolutely free. No downloads as far as I can see, but still…!
