David Crosby was right when he said that Brian Wilson's song writing was quite beyond what was in Vogue in the '60's among the Rock and Roll artists.....that he used chords no one dared to use... and i would simply agree...his harmonies and melodies are so unique and sublime!...and in this recording...one finds such a diverse set of songs that are just simply fabulous!...to me, Brian Wilson represents what a true musician should be...artistry, talent and daring individualism, always bringing something new to the fore...what a Troubadour indeed!

The Police "Synchronicity" Album Review

The Police - Put Out Their Best Album And Then Call It Quits
To my ears this is the pinnacle of The Police's recorded output. I really think every song here is great and the title track "Synchronicity II" remains my all time favorite Police composition, and some of the best lyrics Sting has ever written. Everything comes together on this disc as The Police don't stick to a formula but continue to evolve their sound into what would unfortunately become their final album. More huge, huge hits came from this one including one of their biggest "Every Breath You Take", a song that many people took for a love song, but really contains a much darker sinister plot. The Police had become a football stadium band by the time this album came out and could literally play any size venue that they wanted. They truly went out at the top of their game with their best album and most successful tour. It is good to have them back on the road again in 2007.

The Most Complete You'll See Outside of the Box Set
The song selection on these two discs span Lennon's amazing solo career and includes some rare and live gems that are worth buying the album for.

I must say, however, that this disc is probably not for hardcore Lennon fans, especially if you have already purchased the Lennon Box Set from a while back.

My only point of contention with this album is that the "hit" songs should have been interspersed between to the two albums to allow more casual listeners a chance to listen to the entirety of both discs rather than listening to disc one ad infinitum.

The Beatles - Real Love "Real Love" is a song written by John Lennon. "Real Love" was subsequently reworked by the three remaining members of The Beatles (Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr) in late 1995. The song was released as a Beatles single in 1996 in the United Kingdom, United States and many other countries; it was the opening track on The Beatles' Anthology 2 album. It is the last "new" credited Beatles song to originate and be included on an album. "Real Love" was warmly received by some critics, and the single reached #4 and #10 in the UK and US singles charts respectively and earned a gold record faster than a number of the group's other singles. The song was not included on the British Broadcasting Corporation's Radio 1 playlist, prompting criticism from fans and members of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. After the release of "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love", Starr commented, "Recording the new songs didn't feel contrived at all, it felt very natural and it was a lot of fun, but emotional too at times. But it's the end of the line, really. There's nothing more we can do as The Beatles." Early Origins: First recorded in 1977 with a handheld tape recorder on his piano at home, according to Beatles biographer John T. Marck, "Real Love" originated as part of an unfinished stage play that Lennon was working on at the time entitled "The Ballad of John and Yoko." Marck then traces "Real Love" to an eventual combination of "Real Life", a song Lennon would record at least six takes of in 1979, and then abandon, and another Lennon demo, "Baby Make Love To You". According to bootlegs, the first couple of the demo takes' lyrical structure mostly resembled the song eventually released in 1996, but the others featuring "Real Life" altered portions of the song; for example, "no need to be alone / it's real love / yes, it's real love" became "why must it be alone / it's real / well it's real life." Some takes featured an acoustic guitar, while the eventual Beatles release had Lennon on the piano. Lennon appears to have later ignored the song, which remained forgotten until 1988, when the sixth take of "Real Love" appeared on the Imagine: John Lennon film and soundtrack album. The song was also released on the Acoustic album in 2004. The demo with just Lennon on piano was released in 2005 on Working Class Hero: The Definitive Lennon. Reuniting the Beatles Again Before the Anthology project, the closest The Beatles had come to reuniting (while all four members were still alive) was during the recording of Starr's 1973 Ringo album when they all worked on tracks, though Lennon and McCartney did not work together. The idea of redoing some of Lennon's old songs apparently was inspired by former Beatles road manager Neil Aspinall and Harrison, who first requested some old demos from Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono. Then, in January 1994, McCartney came to New York City for Lennon's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. While there, he received at least four songs from Ono. According to Aspinall, it was "two cassettes" which "might have been five or six tracks." Ono said of the occasion: "It was all settled before then, I just used that occasion to hand over the tapes personally to Paul. I did not break up The Beatles, but I was there at the time, you know? Now I'm in a position where I could bring them back together and I would not want to hinder that. It was kind of a situation given to me by fate." Although "Real Love" was comparatively more complete than "Free as a Bird," which had required the addition of some lyrics by McCartney, the song also suffered from problems with Lennon's timing. Lynne said: " Well, nobody is [keeping time] when they're just writing a song. You don't think, 'I'd better use a click while I'm putting down this idea.' You just play and enjoy yourself. So it took a lot of work to get it all in time so that the others could play to it. " This complicated job was a large part of the reason why George Martin, the traditional Beatles producer, did not produce any of the new, original Beatles songs. McCartney said: Nevertheless, Lynne and the remaining Beatles did their best to make the song appear very "Beatles-y." Lynne said: " What we were trying to do was create a record that was timeless, so we steered away from using state-of the-art gear. We didn't want to make it fashionable. " The song's lyrics have been described by one reviewer as conveying the message that "love is the answer to loneliness" and "that connection is the antidote to unreality." One reviewer described the song as a, "mature, still hopeful but frightened man less concerned with screaming at life than surviving it.

Let talent be your gude
Before you read this review, you must know that I'm an 'over-40' male and have everything from Black Sabbath to Bill Monroe in my music collection. I truly think it's a shame that you have to dress a certain way or act like jerks to avoid being labeled a 'boy band.' This 'boy band' is nothing more than indescribable talent- pure, musical and completely enjoyable. These guys have the essence of the Four Seasons, Jackson 5, and any other previous 'boy band' you can bring to the table. This album is a fine piece of work, as a stand alone or mixed with anything that could be labled pop- yesterday or today. I just listened to this for the first time and have been kicking myself for not exploring it sooner. The feeling in the songs and the tight harmonies are emotive for the soul and pleasing to the ear. You may have something against boy bands, but there's no denying talent. Jealousy breeds contempt, I suppose. Bring me something that compares in the pop/rock realm today. Well done, Backstreet Boys!

I come from an old school, East Coast Hip Hop backround with intrests in Renaissance Jazz, Old school MTV 80's rock, NY House music, Acid Jazz, ect, but I've just always liked Soul in my music. This CD has a nice mix of all of the above. If you like producers like Vikter Duplaix, house music, Regge, Afro Cuban & Latin Jazz, ect, you'll like this CD.

Just. Look, At. The. Cover.
Know somebody who is so unhappy? Put this on. Make em' freak that something this joyful is coming out of their speakers. Best thing is, if you don't mind too-happy music, and have a sense of rhythm and funk, Hey Hey My My Yo Yo! (thatt is fun to ype!).

Before this album, Junior Senior released a song called Move Your Feet, from D-D-Don't Don't Stop the Beat. Even if you only own this one and don't care about that album, Move Your Feet still is a must have. Seriously, do something I normally am against: Downloading single songs! I sure don't like it, but I don't think the rest of D-D-Don't Don't Stop the Beat really is worth my time. This album was released two years ago only in other countries, why anyway? Do you think I have a passport to go to Denmark (kidding, this ain't worth the trip to Denmark or whever the _____ Junior Senior released this album)? Whatever happened, it's here, with a bonus disc that's the same length of the main album! Alright!

Don't be upset if something thinks your gay (just play some manly music if you really give a _______) while listening to this. Yet it's not ear splitting _____ like Hannah Montana, you know, tween music. It's dance, funk, pop, and the genre that the b-52s are in. And it's spread across 34 minutes of get the ________ up and dance music. It's not that inaccessible at it's core, although some of the songs didn't have the instant gratification you expect from music like this. Meaning the songs may not sound as great as they do the first time they do the third time, or fourth, or fifth. Or second. Okay, I'm done.

The first disc is where all the magic happens. The lyrics are positive, the music is positive and funky. Yes, there are a couple of very very high voices and voices I can't explain of We R The Handclaps, but it's sincere stuff. You can tell Junior Senior (the two guys on the cover) and their backing band can play and make you dance, and love what they are saying. All well and good till the last song.

However, once you put in the second disc, it will only bring you down. I was thrilled with the inclusion of another album, until I released it's total crap. Maybe that's a bit unfair, but after hearing the pop songs on the main album, I was pretty mad. The songs on it just lack something, and chances are they won't no much for you. I did like the cowbell groove of Simple Minds Do Simple Things part 2 and the phone call, but don't even hunt down for the two disc edition (ya know, in case this edition is out of print) in the future. You'll just waste your money. I can't fathom somebody spending 90 dollars for mediocre songs on a disc.

Judging on the fact that the second disc is free, there's no real loss. Besides, the main album would have been bought by me without the bonus audio, anyway. It's not going to blow your mind as a whole, and I certainly won't pop this on everyday. It's not five star material, but I think you should check it out. If you need happy music to sing along and dance to, you probabely would want to put this on your wish list. Bonus points if your a guy.

She's losing her motivation (whatever it is)
This album is good, but her previous effort "Scream If You Wanna Go Faster" was much better! There are some stand out tracks on this CD, namely "Ride It", "Desire", and "Let Me Love You More". It also features some big-band/jazz numbers at the opening and closing of the album that are a lot of fun.

And in headlines lately, Geri will be rejoining the Spice Girls as they reunite for one last work tour in December of 2007. How exciting!

The Pussycat Dolls "Pcd" Album Review

Good songs, good looking girls, but weird presentation
This album is a classic and I love the songs on it. However, why is Nichole the only person who sings regularly? When are the additional vocals and background vocals taking place? Personally I like this CD and the group, but I think it is weird that there are 6 girls and only one is supposed to be singing. Whatever. My personal favorite song on this album is "Buttons" because it reminds me of a girl I knew in college and I danced to that song with her. This album is one of those albums where you either love it or hate it and that is a personal decision for any music listener to make.

The Swedish and their electronica, yeesh.

Having not heard Jay Jay Johanson before this album, I was surprised to see his extensive discography listed on amazon.com, and that his earliest CD was realeased in 1998. Being a fan of Royksopp's quirky Swedish electronica, it would seem fitting for me to have already known of this similar Swedish electronic music, but for whatever reason this was not the case.

Anyway, giving Rush a listen, I was able to make comparisons to Royksopp, Annie, Daft Punk, Phoenix, and others of the same vein. This is a great genre to be in, and after so many albums Jay Jay should have a specific electronica/dance style of his own. Unfortunately, it's hard for me to separate him from the rest of these bands.

Not knowing much about what his earlier releases are like (except that Poison from 2000 is very Portishead-like and one of the songs, "Suffering," is on the Queer As Folk soundtrack), I can't make a true judgement about the way Jay Jay's music evolved, or say that he's copying all those artists when the case may be that he is their influence. What I'll do instead is compare Rushto all other current electronica releases. Doing that, I have to admit that I'd rather buy a Royksopp album than a Jay Jay Johanson album any day. It's true that Jay Jay's been around a bit longer, but Royksopp has accomplished much more on their 2005 release, The Understanding, than Jay Jay has on Rush.

With that said, Jay Jay's music really aint too bad. Songs like "Because of You" and "Mirror Man" are totally danceable and head bobbable. "Rock It" has a great melody and creates an unusually interesting atmosphere. But even with these glimmers of hope, I simply can't get passed the complete copy of Daft Punk's music in "Teachers."

Buy this album if you already love all those other artists mentioned above; Rush anything but terrible. But if you're a stranger to the genre (or loved that song in Lost in Translation that they danced to in the Japanese apartment before singing karaoke but never cared enough to find out who it was [Phoenix]), then buy Daft Punk, Phoenix, Annie, and Royksopp first.

Better impossible
Anggun finally reaches her perfect path with her album Luminiscence after playing around with different rythms like electropop (Chrysallis) and New Age (Snow on the Sahara). Luminiscence is the purest expression of what Anggun is and what she is made of: passion and tenderness. This album is definitely her best work ever. The most amazing tracks are the vibrant "Saviour" and hip-hop-ish "In your mind" which contains Arab sounds. "Human" makes you go back to the 70's while "Cover" made me cry several times reminding me of my homeland. There's no doubt that this album was conceived to seal Anggun's career with a golden mark, and she absolutely did it again.
But she also goes back in time to the beginnings of her career when she used to be a rock star with songs like "Devil in my Mind","Painted" and "Captivity". On the other hand, she makes us long for the lost love with songs like "Surrender" and "Breathe in Water",a powerful ballad which is perhaps the best song of the entire album.
If you're a fan of Anggun, you must have this album, if you're not, you'll become one after listening to it.

Evolution and growth
I disagree with the negative reviews. Daisy Martley's vocals fit perfectly with the trippy, psychodelic nature of the music. While the music may have more in common with the sound of Jefferson Airplane than that of early Morcheeba, that does not make it bad. To the contrary, the songs are extremely well crafted and varied. Morcheeba should be applauded for their versatility and growth.

Good for Human Ears
This is a great compilation of the Human League's tunes. A number of tunes on here I remember liking on the radio as a kid in the 80s, so it was cool to find them here in one package. The Human League are a little off-beat, but not crazy. Sort of like the B-52s in that respect, except HL is more sythesizer kind of music, not so much rock. Good stuff for your CD player. Even a die hard fan would already have these in their collection, and remastered. I love what Concrete Blonde had done over the years, but I would be hoping more for a box-set including rarities and whatever other gems they have accomplished. This is a great re-introduction set for those who knew Concrete Blonde but want to get re-acquainted with their material and artistry. For me there is so much more that could be packed into an "Esstential" collection, this doesn't even touch the surface.

Melanie C "Beautiful Intentions" Album Review

A little Alanis a little Kelly, a whole lot of amazing.
This album is very good. Mel C always stood out from the other spice girls for me, and while I personally found her freshman album to be boring, this one is moving, well written, and beautiful. The songs sound like a cross between Kelly Clarkson and Alanis Morisette but with Mel C's distinguishable voice, which of course definately isnt the best in the business. For critics who cant get over her being a Spice Girl, its your loss, this is great music, from a fantastic musician who is proving her worth as a solo artist, unlike most of the other girls. Bravo Melanie, and I hope the new CD is as good as this one.

Melanie Jayne Chisholm (born January 12, 1974 in Whiston, Merseyside) is a singer most famous as one of the five members of the British girl group the Spice Girls, where she was known as "Sporty Spice". She is also known as Melanie C or Mel C. As a solo artist she has released four albums and was nominated for a BRIT Award. Chisholm has co-written 11 UK number-one singles - second only to Madonna for a female artist. The Isle of wight festival is a music festival which takes place annually on the Isle of Wight, England. It was originally held from 1968 to 1970, the venues being Ford Farm (near Godshill), Wootton and Afton Down (near Freshwater) respectively. The 1970 event was by far the largest and most famous of these early festivals; indeed it was said at the time to be one of the largest human gatherings in the world. The most notable of over fifty performers were The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, The Doors, Ten Years After, Joni Mitchell, Melanie, Donovan, Free, Chicago, Richie Havens, John Sebastian, Leonard Cohen, Jethro Tull and Tiny Tim. The event was revived in 2002 at Seaclose Park, a recreation ground on the outskirts of Newport. It has been held annually since that year, progressively extending itself northwards beyond Seaclose Park along the fields of the eastern Medina valley. Many notable artists have performed since its revival including Ray Davies, Robert Plant, The Proclaimers, David Bowie, The Who, R.E.M., Coldplay and Bryan Adams. It was sponsored by Nokia from 2004 to 2006. The promoters of the event now are Solo Music Agency and promotions. Apart from being held somewhere on the Isle of Wight, there is no connection with the festivals of 1968--1970.

Don't buy this CD! Instead buy the DVD!
This CD is great but you should buy the DVD! There are songs included in the DVD version but not included in this CD, and believe me, they are so good that you definitely don't want to miss them at all cost! I don't quite understand why these two songs were not selected in this CD, as I found they are the best two in the DVD version!

1. The Same Sun - so beautiful a song!
2. Borderline - so touching! The original studio version can't compare with this live version! After so many years of performing career, Chris' voice has become so beautiful when he sung this song, especially in his falsetto and the transition! I am a guy but still this song almost made me cry everytime I listen to it!

So if you have this CD, please also buy the DVD!

NATURALLY FAKIN' IT!!!
De-Phazz's oxymoronically titled "Natural Fake" is a cocktail of neo-modern lounge, jazz, funk, soul and r&b. This German group has marvellously evolved the "lounge-sounds" they delivered on the classics "Death By Chocolate" and "Godsdog" with catchy hooks, quirky samples and gorgeous vocals from both male and female. There's 18 songs listed--a bit gluttonous to most--but at least the songs don't meander, and manage to keep your attention from beginning to end. True fans of De-Phazz will appreciate this new sound and not expect a repeat of their previous material. Highly Recommended!!!

So I went running out to buy this...
...after reading the reviews on this site. I have seen the video many times and I think it's fun to watch. I was very interested in hearing Made of Glass but frankly, I was a bit disappointed in it. Maybe it will grow on me. The remixes on this CD single of GYU are "okay." If you want to hear a really great mix that will get your toes tapping and make the title cut the pop song it should've been released as, buy the Mark Jason Mix. It's the best mix!

Butti 49 "Habit" Album Review

Finally a full length...
After the release of the excellent single Kalas and countless remixes for such artists as Nuspirit Helsinki, Ennio Morrricone and Viver, Snorre Seim and Oyvind Jakobsen of Butti 49 from Norway finally release a full length album filled with complementing genres such as funky soul, jazz, broken beat and electronica with an an excellent end result.

This album is a treat to listen to from start to finish with Emo providing the vocals to Flying the first track on the album as well as Action. His voice reminds me a bit of the vocalist from Zero 7 but the sound is definitely more upbeat. Incurable featuring the vocals of Mayia James has the feel good vibe of a laidback jazzy summer house anthem. It's the first single off the album and it's a strong track. Kongo Mongo and Alan Accelerates are both strong upbeat instrumental tracks Kongo Mongo utilizing the an upbeat guitar rhythms and Alan Accelerates having the more energetic jazzy sort of a Latin vibe with horns.

If you are loooking for a great electronica album with the added bonus sounds of Jazz and lounge then this album will satisfy. It's an excellent album from start to finish and I'm sure you'll be having it on repeat play for weeks on end.

A must-have for fans of 80s music
In my mind, there are certain bands or singers who define a decade, or who might be considered the best musical examples of the time. I'd probably put Tears for Fears in the top 5 as the biggest and most successful acts of the 80s. Tears for Fears, of course, is no longer making new music, but you can't get away from hearing them on the radio or in the mall or at Taco Bell or wherever. This compilation is one of the best the 80s had to offer, although I was always a little surprised at their huge popularity since their music rarely had a danceable beat. But what it did have was a great sound and commercial appeal that still exists today, even if the lyrics were strangely melancholy for pop music. I was never a die-hard fan at the time but I loved most of their hits like "Everybody Wants to Rule the World," "Shout," and "Head Over Heels." I had never heard "Woman In Chains" before buying the CD but it quickly became my favorite. "Sowing the Seeds of Love" gets a little old sometimes for me, and I'm not especially fond of "I Believe," but they're still worth listening to. Personally, I was always partial to their older and more New Wave-ish sound, like "Mad World" and "Pale Shelter," and I'm probably the only person in the world who was disappointed that "The Way You Are" wasn't included (apparently the band hated that song?!?), but I can't find a single song here that I absolutely *don't* like or would regularly skip. My only complaint is that the songs don't appear to be in chronological order which is a bit confusing, but it's not that big of a deal. Overall, a must-have for fans of 80s music.

Three CD set.....not all are great,....sorry!
I gave this Set three stars since out of three CDs included in this set, really, only one Cd is fantastic.

Basically, of the three Cds included in this Set , I still prefer the ROXY MUSIC Cd the best. Why?? Because some of Brian Ferry's songs are just plain too weird for me.

This is just my opinion: .... but if you love Roxy Music, as I do, then it's probably better to buy "The BEST of ROXY MUSIC"...period! I found that some of Brian's songs to be just plain boring, so why buy a 3 Cd set?

In my opinion, I think that Brian Ferry was at his best when he was with ROXY MUSIC (rather than as a single singer).

Mellow Like Vintage Wine
This cd which was originally recorded in the late 80's is timeless. A sure departure from Liza's stage music, this is a superb collection of songs! Subtle drama, lush arrangements, and rich vocals are only a portion of what is inside.

The opener, "I Want You Now" features Liza's voice right up front and surrounded by strings and interesting sound effects. "Losing My Mind", a Stephen Sondheim composition from Follies has a driving rhythm and a velvet vocal from Liza. Vivid visual images spring to your imagination wrapped in Liza's musical voice, narrative, and the audio effects in "If There Was Love". One of the finest ballads on the album is Liza singing "Sorry I Said". It is perfect for her voice. "Twist In My Sobriety" is a real twist and turn within the song itself. Striking yet funky, this one is unique! Liza's vocal is perfection on the sweeping ballad "Rent". "Love Pains" is a fascinating uptempo dance number with Liza singing in a new vocal genre. "I Can't Say Goodnight", the final number on the cd, has a smooth jazz arrangement and a silky vocal from Liza.

Musically, this was the best of the Pet Shop Boys collaboration cds with one of America's greatest artists of all time. Liza had reached a peak in her career and was vocally perfect. This cd represents a unique time that only gets better with age. It's one I love to play over and over.

Shaznay's Opened The Door To Let Us In
This album is one of a kind, and created in a certain way that other artists can't seem to accomplish.

Shaznay Lewis has tried her best to escape the realm of her past `All Saints' and entered successfully as an individual.
Her songs are written from her heart as the lyrics from each song are meaningful.
Her Introduction to her album `Open' explains to the listeners that this album is a ride that your about to enjoy and her journeys about to begin.

`Dance' is self-explanatory as Shaznay is testing a guy if he can keep up with her moves all night long. This song is accompanied by a rap singer called Biz Marke, personally I would have preferred if he wasn't in this. He sounds tacky.

The debut single `I Never Felt Like This Before' is a song no-one else can write as it takes brains! It's lush, melodies and feels as if cupid has attacked you with his bow and arrow. Shaznay's explaining to this guy (in her video) that she's in love with him and there is no point denying this. A unique song that will be remembered by Shaznay Lewis.

`Mr Dawg' is Shaznay singing with an attitude, she's not gonna let some guy mess her about and let him get away with it by calling her. This song is cool as Shaznay howls like a dog (Aow! Aow! So why you keep callin Mr Dawg?)
This song is a little repetitive but not boring as it'll get you hitched.

`Heart Made Me A Fool' is about a girl in a relationship with a guy and she knows that this isn't working out. All the kiss and begging won't change her mind. She's realised it's time to listen to her head speak rather than her heart as it made her a fool. This song is very funky and very meaningful.

`You' is unbelievably sublime! Shaznay is alone and waiting for her lover to return to her. Even though she is alone, she has things around her to remind her of him. In her video, the clouds and the edge of the mountain has been formed into a face. That face is Shaznay Lewis's husband, Christian Storm. This song calms you down and helps you to relax as the background music doesn't blare away. The best track of the album.

`Mr Weatherman' is basically Shaznay questioning the Weatherman why when she looks out the window, why does the sun disappear? And when she thinks of the person she loves, why does it rain? This song is different to the other songs as it uses an electric guitar and sounds like rock, but not too much. It's a nice song and very catchy.

`Butterflies' is a song about physical attraction. These feelings are overwhelming and Shaznay shivers and gets Butterflies when she looks into the guy's eyes.
This song is made to sound like it's being played from an old record, but it doesn't do it from start to finish. Only at the start and the end.

`Nasty Boy' is Shaznay having a great lust for bad boys and she wants to see what the boys can do to impress her. Even though these boys's love is dangerous, she can't help it as she's hypnotised. This song is something for the girls but nice enough to listen to.

`Radio' is about Shaznay seeing this guy on a ride and she doesn't know if this is good or bad. This guy is driving her crazy and she's doing her best to grab his attention (Feels like I'm driving this daisy, cutting my hair and changing my style)
But now this guy is gone, the pain is getting harder and it won't go away.
This song is addictive and should have been used as a single!

Last but not least, `Now Your Gone'. It was originally called `Crying' but then later changed for some reason. This song is about Shaznay in pain because her man is leaving and she can't stop crying over him. Nothing can help her as she misses him so much and she shreds so many tears on her pillow. This song is a great way to finish on this album as Shaznay hums at the end.

Overall, this is an amazing album that should be in everyone's hands. Shaznay Lewis should be proud of herself as she'll be making everyone obsessed with her music. Shaznay Lewis is a singer that should not be made out to be an embarrassment. She was great in All Saints and even greater being a solo artist. This album will not let you down. Trust me. Open x

The last two years have witnessed the staggering arrival of quite some bands with female charm. Cologne-based Klee can be rightly considered as pioneers of this exciting development. Since the mid-90s, Suzie Kerstgens, Tom Deininger and Sten Servaes have formed a close-knit team. As Klee they released the album Unverwundbar (`invulnerable') an album that marked them as being addicted to romantic ideas and in love with melodies. On their new album Jelängerjelieber we see Klee focused even stronger on songs, clarity and transparency. <P>With "Jelängerjelieber" (`verbatim, the longer, the better') Klee spent several months in their studio in Cologne to create the assembled songs that were given final treatment at Conny Plank's Studio (of Cluster fame). Klee's album has a soothing effect for all emotional characters. The strong atmospheric "corset" which on the last album held together the songs has been peeled away to reveal a band related to the European legacy of Air, The Smiths, New Order, or Coldplay. <P>Klee's pop songs are not a matter of people's age but character. Snow Patrol "Final Straw" Album Review

Dark new wave rock
It beats me why people compare this band to Travis, Coldplay and Keane. They are about as far from the classic pop sound of those bands - esp. Travis and Keane - as you could get. Instead, Snow Patrol have a driving, bass-heavy barre-chord driven sound with simple song structures. It brings out the beat, where Travis's songs bring out the strumming guitar and delicate chord changes. I guess the similarity lies with the emotional nakedness of Snow Patrol, which is what really makes them - and this cd - special. They are nowhere near as melodic as Keane, and, in fact, some songs verge on a kind of tedious blandness. But there is an obvious intelligence to the lyrics and an open anger that reminds me more of early Pub Rock or New Wave - Elvis Costello type stuff. I wouldn't mind a few more effective hooks (like the guitar riff in "Gleaming Auction"). This is driving rock - not the fairly light Britpop we've been listening to.

I just purchased this item a couple of days ago, and already I'm impressed. Not only does it contain songs from his days with the Jackson 5 all the way to the Invincible album, it also has rare and unreleased songs from albums tracing back to The Jacksons. There are four discs of music, and one DVD of the Dangerous Tour Live in Bucharest. I feel that some of the discs are missing some of his greatest singles such as In The Closet, Working Day & Night, Another Part Of Me, Liberian Girl, Leave Me Alone, Human Nature, and I Can't Help It. These are only a few to name, but here's the list:

Great band, but songs are all redone
I guess I need to learn how to burn my own greatest hits CD, because I had no idea that hardly any of these songs are the versions from the original albums. In fact, many of the songs on this CD are cut shorter. I guess people don't realize the difference, because everyone seems to give such high ratings. I think that The Living Daylights is a HOT song, but this version, which was in the movie, sucks compared to the version that's on their Stay On These Roads CD. I can't imagine why they couldn't use THAT version in the movie, and why they couldn't put the same version in this CD. When I buy a "greatest hits" CD, I usually get the original recordings, and if they're different versions, it is mentioned on the cover. I don't know if Headlines and Deadlines is the same, but I heard it is.

Tourist in Germany
I just got back from a vacation to Germany where they were playing Juli's single "Perfekta Welle" ALL THE TIME. Like a lot of the people commenting, I also know very little of the German language. However, that doesn't stop me from falling in love with the catchy hooks and the lead singer's wonderful voice. I went out to a CD store while there and bought this CD immediately (waiting til I got home would mean more money, money, money). I haven't had a lot of time to listen to it since being home, but from what I've heard so far, it is worth the buy!!!

Her new collection is bittersweet because, for each song I enjoy, I realize that I'm getting closer to the last new song I will hear from her. I have enjoyed each of the songs, and particularly love "I Can See Again" for her powerful voice and spiritual underpinnings. She was a remarkable voice that has sorely been missed. If you loved Laura's music, you will love this collection.

Bertine Zetlitz "Rollerskating" Album Review

Ice Maiden
Bertine Zetlitz is a norwegian electronica pop princess. She stems from Oslo and a part of town called Frogner. A place where people are comfortably well off, and young girls like Bertine, can grow up knowing they can follow their dreams and ambitions. Like starring in a popular pre-teen programe on Norwegian tv, going to highschool and college tailor made for her musical aspirations.

After joining a band she was quickly aproached by record company people who told her to ditch the scruffy guys and go it on her own. Thus was born an electronica pop star.

She would have been launched outside little Norway with her third album (this is her fourth) but just before that happend EMI sacked people along the board and Bertine was lucky she sold as much as she did in Norway or maybe they would have dropped her as well.

This her fourth album continues the electronic path she has been on, with cooly breezy lyrics, containing more passion than one might at first think. She can be a scary woman Bertine. She is very beautiful and well spoken, but look long enough into those ice blue husky eyes of her, and you will be taken on a ride the makers of Narnia could only dream of.

And to those who would like to experience what can go on in Norway these days, and want some well made electronic pop with a heartbeat, spend a dollar or two extra on this import. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Priceless but pricey II
Much like the first installment of singles, seeing these remixes and b-sides come out on CD in ANY form was a welcome sign.

There are so many good tracks here like "We Need You," "Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)" and several excellent live recordings that its hard to overpraise the music contained herein.

The packaging however is tough. All single CDs... I am sure I am not the only one to quickly make a compilation CD of the rare tracks and put the nostaglia sleeves away for safe keeping.

Wish they would have done that for me.....

I really enjoy this CD, it reminds me of the music I grew up. I was looking for something to just have on in the background, in my home during the day. I was disappointed that there were too many songs I didn't know, but this was the best choral music CD I could find so far that included both religious carols and non-religious carols.

The Art of Tony
As the 1980s loomed, Tony Bennett found himself stranded in the wilderness of L.A., twice divorced and nearly broke after being hounded by the IRS. After a brush with death from a cocaine overdose, Bennett reached out to his son Danny and put his career in his son's hands. "Look, I'm lost here," he told Danny. "It seems like people don't want to hear the music I make."

Son put father on tour at unlikely venues such as college campuses and introduced Bennett to a new, younger audience hungry for a universal musical message. By mid-decade Bennett had won back his recording contract with Columbia Records, and in 1986 he released his first album in over a decade, The Art of Excellence.
Fifteen albums and two decades later, Bennett's career is in high gear, and the ageless songster embodies the definition of "hip." In 1994 he appeared with Elvis Costello and k.d. lang on MTV's hugely popular show Unplugged. The recording taken from that program went platinum, selling more than a million copies to a generation many of whose members had never heard of Cole Porter or Irving Berlin, and winning the Grammy for album of the year. Most of Bennett's more recent offerings have been tributes to the artists he admires, such as Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Fred Astaire, and Irving Berlin. In 2002, with k.d. lang, he recorded an homage to Louis Armstrong, A Wonderful World.

His latest release, The Art of Romance, is another gem. Although Bennett's range and lung power have seen better days, he remains the reigning king of the standards--the man Sinatra once called "the best goddamned pop singer I've ever heard." He still knows exactly where to hold one note and where to cut off another. He handles a pair of Johnny Mercer numbers, "Little Did I Dream" and "Time to Smile," with sublime panache. On the tongue-in-cheek "The Best Man," Bennett's storytelling ability shines as he cleverly employs the turn of phrase behind the song's title. He even shows deftness as a lyricist on his adaptation of an old Django Reinhardt melody, "All for You."

But his strongest performances are to be found on Harold Arlen's "Don't Like Goodbyes" and the album's closer, "Gone with the Wind." There must be some long-lost flame in Bennett's life that he still yearns for, because I swear he's singing to her in these heartbroken elegies to lost love. But how many other male vocalists pushing eighty can convincingly present love songs meant for a younger man's voice?

Few recording artists have enjoyed a second wind as enduring and rewarding as Bennett's. By adhering to his ethic of hard work, by staying true to himself and his music, he now has more than a dozen Grammies and no regrets. Perhaps even more than Sinatra, Tony Bennett has lived and made music his way.

I'm in love with her!
I think this is such a great album! I liked "Unwritten" when it came out, it was cool and original. Then I heard the amazing "These Words" and now it's one of my favorite songs of all time! This album is good too. The songs are well written, well sung and well produced. I also can relate to her song "Single" as I'm proud to be single too! If you liked "Unwritten" from the radio then there's more to offer besides that hit. Go buy this album, you won't be sorry!

VERY GOOD BUT NOT GREAT
When I heard this album for the first time, I thought inmediately that it wasn't a masterpiece, but some tracks were very catchy. Nothing on the album is bad, that's clear. Of course that could be a better album with a memorable song, and that's what this work lacks. But that doesn't mean it's not a worthy album. "Turn the lights out when you leave" is perhaps the best song in this collection, and "They call her the cat" is another good song. Finally "Answer in the sky" is a tipically elton-ish tune. The other songs are also good, but not great.
