Next month will be the fourth anniversary of the weekend in 2008 when I sat out on my patio with my laptop and began banging out what was officially launched as Talk of the Sound on September 1, 2008.

At each approaching anniversary, I like to take stock as to where the site has been and where it is going. Reader engagement is always an important part of that reflection.

Adding an up/down voting module to the site is a sort of "next step" in the evolution of reader engagement on the site where you, the reader, can vote on the quality of a particular article or comment. The criteria is intended to be the value of the contribution to the site -- the clarity of the writing, the quality of a particular insight, the tone. Articles and comments that are useful, well-written and informative get voted up, articles and comments that are self-indulgent, rambling rants get voted down. You, the reader, are recommending what you believe other readers will find interesting and worthwhile and helping them avoid drivel and dreck.

Trinity Elementary School's Children Lives Are At Risk

Yesterday morning, a 5th grader from Trinity Elementary School tried to set fire to the T2 bus, scorching three seats in the back of the bus.

This child has previously been punished at school for having a lighter and yet when principal Briceno was called to assist in the incident, he said he was too busy to go outside.

The incident was not reported to the police, the child was not punished and out on the playground for recess after his lunch period.

Trinity's children lives are at risk. How do you think the parents of the children on the T2 bus would feel if they knew about yesterday mornings events?

A quick programming note.

UPDATE: I was informed tonight by Station Manager Don Stevens that I am not allowed on the air at WVOX so I did not appear with Steve.

I have been invited to appear as a guest tonight on Steve Mayo's radio show on WVOX at 6 PM then running back to host my own show on Blog Talk Radio at 7 PM. Matthew Pryce is back co-hosting Talk of the Sound Radio. We will end at 8 pm and turn things over to friends of Talk of the Sound Bruce Negrin at 8 PM back on WVOX.

This weekend is the 10th Anniversary attacks on 9/11. On Talk of the Sound Radio tomorrow we will take a look back and look forward. I usually try to keep to myself on 9/11 because it is a very emotional day and I usually end up wanting to punch someone. At least this year we can celebrate the double-tap performed on Osama bin Ladin by our Seal Team Six. Not sure we can avoid the weather, floods and power outages. The Iona College framework is out so we can talk about that too. And there is always Notre Dame football and what was a tough week for the Irish after a terrible performance against South Florida. Up next, Michigan.

UPDATE: Whistleblower Pat Papallardi sits for his first ever interview to discuss the DPW case. In this exclusive interview with Talk of the Sound, Papallardi tells Robert Cox how about a year after Fevang was hired in 1993 he began to notice problems -- sending work to new vendors, increased costs on invoices, missing parts and more. He explains how the first investigation by the Westchester County District Attorney came about in 2001, how Fevang reacted to the investigation by harassing workers. Papallardi explains why he decided to go back to the District Attorney in 2009, the role of Council Member Lou Trangucci and process of the investigation from January 2010 until this week when Fevang was indicted on 66 counts of fraud and misconduct.

Cox asked Papallardi about calls by Council Members Lou Trangucci, Richard St. Paul, and Albert Tarantino for an independent audit and a criminal referral to the U.S. Attorney, whether he agreed with Mayor Noam Bramson that calls for an outside investigation was a "smear" against the 600 employees of the City of New Rochelle. Papallardi said "no".

Cox asked about claims by City Manager Chuck Strome, Mayor Noam Bramson and Council Member Jared Rice that Fevang acted along, that this was a case of a single individual. Papallardi said "no".

Papallardi shared his reaction to the news, after 17 years of filing complaints, to hear that Fevang was led out of a White Plains Court room in handcuffs.

Next week, Talk of the Sound Radio will air three additional cuts from the interview which will make clear that many people within the City of New Rochelle were well aware of the complaints against Fevang and took no action. Papallardi will discuss several of the vendors who Fevang did business with, how some of Fevang's scams worked and the amounts of money involved. Papallardi will explain why he did not approach City Manager Chuck Strome. Papallardi will also share a disturbing story of a last gasp effort by Fevang to intimidate him in an attempt to discourage Papallardi from testifying to the grand jury.

First up – the annual New Rochelle Sidewalk Sale is underway. It kicked off a few days ago but continues through tomorrow in the DownTown area of New Rochelle.

Then tomorrow at 10 am, the New Rochelle Public Library plays host to the NRAA as they jury in new members for 2011.

Get up early on Sunday because the Taking Steps to Rebuild Benefit 5K walk-a-thon kicks off at 8 am at Wildcliff Manor. Proceeds of the walk-a-thon will go to help rebuild the Union Baptist Church tragically destroyed in a fire in February.

From two feet to two wheels, a different variety of benefit beings at 9 at New Roc Harley Davidson. The Third Annual Hogs For Hope escorted motorcycle ride will showcase fantastic food, great bands, prizes, raffles and a bouncy house all to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charity.
