So
what will 2013 bring the technology world? 2012 was known as. 2012 is
likely to be known as the year that we all got tablets and touchscreen
smart phones. 2013 is already set to be a great year of technology with
Sony and Microsoft setting up to release new games consoles that are
intended to last well into the 2020s. We expect to see lots of progress
with Google's Project “Glass” which we imagine will bring a whole new
world of web browsing to the masses. The rest of the companies such as
Apple, Amazon and the like will be continuing to cross boundaries with
their devices. So what is to be expected in 2013?

2012
saw Apple facing fairly stiff competition from nearly all of the
technology companies. We expect to see this continue into 2013 as
Microsoft releases their surface which has attracted a lot of attention
in the first few months. Could this be the year we see the death of the
PC and laptop? Laptops are becoming like tablets where you are able to
turn the screen upside down and in on itself allowing you to have a
laptop and a tablet in one, I can see the vast majority of companies
doing away with physical keyboard altogether quite soon. Voice
recognition is becoming more and more accurate every day and with the
advent of Syri on the iPhone Apple has put voice recognition in the
palms of millions of people's hands.

I
for one am particularly looking forward to the release of Google's
glass lab research which is set to make browsing the web as simple as
taking a stroll down the road. Google seems to have solved the problem
of people walking down the street and whacking into each other whilst
busy looking at their devices by developing Google glass. Google glass
is a brand-new way to view the Internet, your smart devices, text
messages, maps and more. Google glass utilises brand-new technology that
they have built into an ordinary looking pair of glasses. With Google
glass you can navigate, search the web, look up contacts, read and more
whilst looking in a straight line in front of you, this should stop
people bumping into each other. I for one cannot wait for the day that
all I have to do is look at a product and I can instantly know all of
the information about the product.... by just looking at it, that would
be extremely useful.

Gaming

Perhaps
in 2013 we will see the launch of the PlayStation 4 however this is
unlikely to happen before 2014 but the Xbox 720 we will surely see in
2013, it is due this summer and is expected to be a touchscreen style
tablet controller with built-in Blu-ray . I can see all of the gaming
technologies becoming cloud-based very soon perhaps 2013 will be the
year that this happens.

Camera 2.0.

In
2012 we saw the beginning of camera 2.0 but most of the models released
by the major manufacturers were aimed at amateurs and semi
professionals. This year in 2013 we expect to see high-end camera
companies such as Nikon and Cannon converting their camera technology to
android and following suit.

Television

TV
sizes in 2013 are set to exponentially increase we are likely to see 35
inch screens and 39 inch screen is becoming a common the lowest screen
size you can buy.

Hi there, I had a G300 for Xmas this year and it was locked to Vodafone.
I read that I could get it unlocked on ebay for around 5 dollars but
cant be bothered to wait for 2 days to get the code. I took it into the
vodapone shop where the woman said that she would have a look at it. I
came back after an hour and she said that she can give me the network
NUK code for the g300 but it was going to cost me 20 UK pounds. I then
asked her if she could do it for free and she replied "we only unlock
phones fr free if they are over 12 months old". So I left with the phone
still locked. I walked to the nearest street vendor that proclaims to
unlock mobile phones. He said he would do it but it would take an hour
longer than the Vodafone shop ( which was instant by the way ) and that
he would charge the same.
I figured that the easiest way to unlock a G300 is to get it done by the
network. Just go in and ask, they will charge you more than likely but
at least its done and there's no messing about. Believe me, I trawled
the internet for days trying to find a way to unlock the Huawei G300 and
it turns out that the net is just full of scams.

This is a very good acceleration score for an SUV. The maximum speed is 130 mph.

You can expect excellent "behavior" on the road from the latest Range Rover. It has perfect stability and balance. You will enjoy perfect handling. Thanks to the Command Shift technology your car will follow each one of your commands instantly offering excellent maneuverability and perfect control.

This SUV offers smooth cruising on the road no matter what the weather is due to the four-wheel drive. The 2012 Range Rover comes with cruising control for extra convenience and better handling. At the same time, the car can overcome literally any challenge on any rugged off-road terrain thanks to the technologically advanced suspension with Terrain Response. One impressive feature is the hill descent control with gradient release control.

The 2012 Range Rover meets the highest safety standards with its anti lock brakes, stability and traction control and front side and curtain side airbags. Impressive features that every driver will appreciate include 19-inch 7-spoke alloy wheels, xenon headlamps with headlamp wash, LCD virtual instrument panel and heated leather wheel with multi function switches. Parking will not be an issue even for impatient, novice and easily distracted drivers. The SUV is equipped with front and rear parking sensors. The rear camera gives you a large view of the area behind your car so you will certainly get things right.

The luxury features of the 2012 Range Rover are endless, but you will get an idea of what to expect just by reading about the most impressive ones. The SUV has heated seats upholstered with luxury Blenheim Leather. The front ones are powered and come with easy positioning function and memory settings. The genuine wood veneer trip adds an extra touch of opulence to the vehicle. You will love the exclusive entertainment system.

By now, techno geeks are raving about this thing called OLED TV (Organic Light Emitting Diode) in the same vein as rabid religious fanatics are frothing in the mouth at the Second Coming and the end of the world at 2012. What exactly is OLED?

Picture a simple LED bulb, the kind you may have as a handy little flashlight attached to your keychain. Now, shrink that in size and spread them over a flat rectangular pattern. Organic Light Emitting Diodes will flash a variety of colors in a very wide spectrum, and with this, comes a new medium of placing pictures, images and video on screen. What is the basic advantage of OLED over LCD?

First of all, OLEDs do not require a backlight as compared to LCD TVs and monitors. A regular LED flashlight has a much longer life compared to a tiny light bulb. The same can be exactly said about OLEDs, which are very similar to LED. Do the math and you will see that OLED will have a much longer life span than LCD TVs. An LCDs lifespan is often dictated by the lifespan of its back light. Hence a dead backlight means good bye LCD TV. In connection with this, an OLED TV is much skinnier than an LCD TV. No backlight means less space and a much thinner profile, and also less energy consumption. All those advantages accrued from the simple fact that an OLED TV has no backlight. Amazing.

Second is the viewing angle. You can view an OLED from a much wider angle compared to an LCD TV or Plasma TV. OLEDs produce color and pictures similar to the way a plasma TV does, so you can now visualize the difference between viewing a movie on an OLED TV and an LCD TV. You don't have to sit right smack in the middle to enjoy the action. You can practically view it from any angle in the room. This is useful when you have a dozen or so people viewing a boxing match in front of the TV. You won't have to punch each other out to get the best seat in the house.

Third is the picture. It is simply beyond words and you have to see it to believe it. It all boils down to the process by which an LCD TV produces colors. In extremely very simple terms, color is produced by elimination in LCD. In OLED, it is by a combination of colors in the spectrum. Hence, more vibrant colors, sharper blacks and whites. In fact, there is even a possibility of 3-D OLED TV.

But don't just let go of your beloved LCD TV just yet. OLED is still in it's every early stages, and still has a long way to go before toppling the LCD TV king out of the hill. Just as the LCD TV smashed the CRT TVs into oblivion, OLED may someday do the same but not just yet.

We have all witnessed the fast development of digital signage, from the humble digital LCD posters that display basic digital advertising, to the more sophisticated full blown digital signage network.

When we go to the airports, train stations and ferry terminals, we are bombarded with digital advertising campaigns, with some company trying to get their brand awareness increased.

Now we all know that soccer is a cash cow and every manufacturer of soccer equipment and football strips wants the public to buy their product. With the UK merchandising market worth an estimated £3 billion per year, I'm sure in the next 6 months, you will see DOOH (Digital Out Of Home) advertising springing up at football grounds.

Now look to next year, in 2010, when the FIFA World Cup commences, if you are lucky enough to visit the host nation, you will see lots of digital signage, some used for brand awareness as well as integrating it with visitor information.

This is also true for the 2012 London Olympics, with most public transport sectors investing heavily into dynamic signage, however due to the nature of the remoteness of the train stations and un-manned areas, the digital signs need to be protected with digital signage enclosures.

Now the Galway races in Ireland are running with a unique system that is user fed, making the content truly unique. During the racing week, people are encouraged to use their mobiles and to submit video and images to the digital signage network for that day and then later in early evening, the outdoor digital signs will then play the
content created by the visitors.

Where ever there is an opportunity to market a product, there will be a digital sign, as this is the most efficient type of marketing medium available.

Dave is an expert technical author in the field of NTP servers, he is also the owner of Europe's leading manufacturer of LCD enclosures, that will be supplying the Galway Races and the 2012 Olympics with protective outdoor signage enclosures.

LCD or liquid crystal TVs are found in flat screen televisions that use LCD technology. They are lighter and normally thinner than CRT's (cathode ray tube) and plasma screens. LCD screens can be found in much larger sizes than most other TVs. It is also one of the most widely produced and sold on the market due to its lower manufacturing costs. However there are both disadvantages and advantages with this technology.

On a simple level, LCD produces its image by filtering white light. These white lights are managed via a "shutter" like system that allows only a certain amount in at a given time. You're probably wondering how on earth the white lights can produce color of any kind? Well the design is quite genius. The white lights pass through red, blue, and green filters. The color produced depends on how much light and where the light passes through. Now this isn't a one for one trade-off as far as pixels are concerned. What I mean is that each "pixel" consists of multiple shutters that produce the individual pixel. The process is so advanced that you can be right up on the screen and not see the individual colors passing through a given shutter.

With LCD screens, it's all about the angle at which the light passes through. The shutters consist of two polarizer plates at 45 degree angles, which normally don't allow light to pass though. This is what displays your black color on-screen. Polarizers hold the roadmap for how light passes through them, which allows for some light to naturally twist through the liquid crystal at just the right angle. As you can imagine, this has to happen really fast. To do so, the shutters are under constant pressure.

One good thing about LCD's is that they are very light. When browsing for TV wall mount reviews, this gives you a much broader range of options.

LCD's aren't the most efficient system on the market for sure. This is due to the complexity of the light being produced at the rear of the screen. At any given time, you might only see 9% to 10% of the light being produced at the rear of the screen. That leads to lots of wasted power and therefor lack of efficiency.

Image ghosting is always a concern when using an LCD, but manufactures have come a long way in this department and most screens either won't have it, or it won't be seen by the untrained eye. With that said, they are valid options for most anyone.

Here is a corker of a conundrum: the latest MacBook models, like the Air, is a revolutionary laptop and unique for both its weight and size. And yet the Macbook Air is just like the original MacBook and the MacBook Pro. Well, for the most part. Even so, they share many similarities and a few of very striking differences between those three laptops models in the MacBook line. If you are considering purchasing a Macbook, I will help you decide whether you would like to stick with the contemporary laptop crowd or go ultra-thin.

One thing is for sure - For many years, Apple never does things mundane! Perhaps, you remember when Apple released those iMacs? Although iMacs shared the same general components as any computers - a keyboard, ports, monitor, cables, and speakers, - iMacs were revolutionary because it was entirely self-contained. And they came in colors. And it did not have a floppy drive. As a matter of fact, Apple had redesigned the ordinary computer with the focus on ease-of-use and style, and had scrapped the floppy drive (and rightly so, after we see how floppies were unreliable to boot and had become practically useless). Some people consider the MacBook Air is an extension in the iMac revolution. With the new design, Apple has focused its efforts on weight and physical dimensions, and has tossed many things that aren't absolutely necessary for most Macbook owners. However, you should be happy to note that Macbook Air is no toy, nor an underpowered subnotebook. You'll find the Macbook Air as fast as the regular MacBook and the Macbook Air even shares a few of the MacBook Pro features.

Consider the following similarities between the regular Macbooks and the Air:

Widescreen LCD screen: The Air has similar display size as other MacBook units. Same gorgeous graphics, same display resolution, (In fact, early MacBook Air and MacBook have similar internal video card)

Intel Core2Duo processor: The Air is run by the same kind of processor as its siblings.

Trackpad and keyboard: The Air has a full size keyboard, and it is even backlit, just like other MacBook models. The Air's trackpad supports the Multi-Touch control, too.

Leopard: All Macbook models have the latest Mac OS X version
Microphone and iSight: Every MacBook Air is video ready, with the same iSight webcam. You can record audio files with the integrated microphone as well.
Wireless support: All Macbook models have both integrated AirPort Extreme hardware (802.11n) and integrated Bluetooth adapter.
Most Apple laptop owners should agree that no MacBook model is underpowered pushover.

Here is the checklist of obvious differences of each Macbook models:

Physical dimension: Apple does not call this laptop the Air for nothing! The latest Air laptop measures a mere 0.76"/1.94 cm in height (at the tallest point) when closed, 12.8"/32.5 cm in width, and 8.94"/22.7 cm in depth. Macbook measures 2.75cm /1.08" in height, 32.5 cm/12.8" in width and 22.7cm / 8.94" in depth. While Macbook Pro 17 in measures 2.5cm/ .98" in depth, 39.2cm /15.4" in width and 26.5cm/10.4" in depth. Well, hold on to the chair for this one: Our champ the Air weighs in at a lightweight 3 pounds, (that's a few pounds Air owners won't be carrying around everyday during their daily activities. With lighter laptop, you will feel an enjoyable difference in just a few hours.), while the biggest loser is Macbook Pro 17 in at 6.6 pounds!
Cost: There are a few variants for each Macbook model. An entry-level MacBook Pro will set you back $1,000, and the top-of-the-line Macbook Air is a whopping $3,000. The more expensive Macbook model comes with a very expensive, solid-state drive and a more powerful processor. If performance is your least concern, get the original Macbook for about $900.
Ports: The Air offers only 3 ports: one USB 2.0 port, a standard audio output jack, and also a Micro-DVI that supports an external video device or monitor. Notice I did not mention a FireWire port, which will be a big problem for most Apple old-timers. In other hand, other Macbook models may have up to 3 USB ports and also Firewire 800 port. Even so, Air owners can buy a USB hub to increase the number of available USB ports.
Battery design: Air owners can't swap the battery because it is sealed inside the laptop. While, owners of other Macbook models can replace the battery easily at home. (Think iPod.)
Case design: Air owners can't replace or add RAM modules. Even so, a MacBook Air has 2GB RAM, enough for common uses. Comparatively, the MacBook Pro and MacBook models come with or can be upgraded to 4GB RAM.
Speaker: The MacBook Air has only a speaker.
Solid-state drive: Now we are talkin', Buck Rogers! Only the latest Air model has a 128GB Solid-State drive.
Optical drive: Whoa! This is certainly a big one. Apple thought that a typical Air user is likely to use wireless connections for transferring media and files. But what if you need to reinstall Leopard or latest applications? If you have to burn or read discs, an external USB SuperDrive is sold for about $100, or you may use the Remote Disc feature to share the files on another computer.
You can see that, these striking differences make the decision to buy a MacBook Air, a MacBook and a MacBook Pro is very easy indeed. The Air is intended for the travelers who appreciate minimum size and weight, but who does not want to sacrifice the performance, full-size keyboard, and full-size screen of a typical MacBook. You can see a MacBook Air as a racing car: nimble, with lower weight and no unneeded frills. (Think about a typical NASCAR car: Who needs a costly air conditioning or stereo?) If you prefer the extra versatility of a MacBook Pro or MacBook -including the regular set of ports, the ability to upgrade RAM and swap batteries, faster graphic card, and also a built-in optical drive - it is highly recommended that you stick with the contemporary MacBook Pro or original MacBook models.

Just when you think you've got the latest cell phone another one comes on the market! Keeping up with the latest technology means deciding exactly what you want your cell phone to do, although the term "cell phone" is rapidly becoming so yesterday, I guess we should now be calling them mobile devices.

If you're confused then don't be. What do you actually need your cell phone to do? If you rarely text, send emails or access the internet then don't buy something that has too many bells and whistles because whether you use these capabilities or not your cell phone bill may become so high that your all-singing and all-dancing phone becomes totally cost ineffective.

What I like about the latest mobile devices is that they do away with many of the other devices I've been dragging around. I no longer need GPS, I use my cell phone as an alarm clock and a diary and my laptop rarely gets taken out of its case. I have no idea where my MP3 player is either, because all my music is now on my phone and my digital camera rarely gets used.

I also need fast internet access and the phone I chose, the Samsung Galaxy SII is definitely going to be my BFF for the next 12 months. Two years ago I purchased a phone with internet access that was so slow it drove me insane, I have to admit I was wary of buying another but the Galaxy has exceeded my expectations. It and the iPhone are about the most popular phones on the market today and I am sure they will continue to be so during 2012 but your choice should be based around the phone's operating system.

A Windows-based operating system will allow you to use "Pocket Word" and "Pocket Excel" to edit office documents if that's what you need. RIM's Blackberry is probably the best device for sending, creating and receiving emails and it's great for working on Facebook if that's your thing.

Symbian is Nokia's OS and it is now open-sourced. Both Ericsson and Nokia phones with the Symbian operating system are good for fast phone dialing, photography and voice control and with 100,000+ downloadable apps makes a good choice for 2012.

A similar number of apps is available on the iPhone4S and is reported to be the best mobile browser available.

Whichever cell phone you choose, you'll end up with a pile of electronics that you'll no longer need. Please recycle them all responsibly by taking them to an electronics store that offers free recycling - just don't throw them in the trash.

If you're thinking of upgrading your headphones there are many various types of models to choose from. Just like the styles of headphones vary so does the quality and price. The two types of over the ear headphones consist of open back and closed back styles.

Originally headphones were only available in the over the ear style. Currently headphones come in several different styles shapes and sizes. Earbuds are quickly becoming one of the most popular styles of headphones. Besides excellent sound quality that your pods offer in many cases they are almost invisible when wearing. When it comes the earbuds besides sound quality a comfortable fit is an absolute necessity. You will find that the higher quality earbuds are also designed for maximum comfort.

If you intend to use your headphones for listening at home then the over the ear models would be the best choice. As mentioned with the earbuds comfort is also a primary reason when choosing on the ear model headphones.

Any type of headphone model that will be used with a iPod or an MP3 player needs to have a jack that is compatible with the device. Over the ear model headphones in some cases can be quite heavy so it's important to physically try a set on before making a purchase. The weight of the headphones does not equate to their sound quality.

One of the hottest areas today in the headphone market is noise cancellation. Noise cancellation works by either passive or active sound canceling techniques. Some noise cancellation models can cut outside noise up to 44 dB.

Noise cancellation headphones are preferred for those who do a lot of air travel. Quality sound reproduction is paramount when it comes to headphones of any style or design. So it is very important that what ever your plug-in into is of equal or greater quality than the headset you choose to use.

Another popular feature when it comes to headphones is surround sound. Surround sound headphones are also important to those who listen to their home theater through either wired or wireless headphones. 5.1 headphones work by having the sound separated into different channels. The better model surround sound headphones make the sound appeared to originate inside your head and not in your ears.

Another great feature that's available in today's headphones is Bluetooth. Bluetooth models are very popular because they allow you to various things while listening to music. Wireless headphones are very popular item.

Wireless headphones operate by the use of transmitters such as infrared or radio frequency technology. People in the know feel that radio frequency is the most reliable signal transfer method for cordless headphones.

There are so many aspects that are available in headphones today that it's easy to get overwhelmed when you start your shopping. The best way to decide on a model that's right for you is to choose a model that will best suit your listening needs.

It's important to also keep in mind your budget because prices on headphones 2012 very anywhere from $10-$1000 for some high-end models. Always consider how you will be using the headphones before you buy them. Take your time when deciding on your next set of headphones in order to get the right pair.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of the Sprint wireless internet and other Sprint wireless broadband services? What about the coverage and the quality of their network? Find out all these and even more in this article.

Sprint network is becoming bigger and it already covers the most of the USA. With use of the most advanced technologies, their users enjoy the phone calls and the high speed internet access from the cellular wireless network, and from the residential internet access. Sprint wireless internet users, which live in the urban areas, have the download speed of at least 700 Kbps. Most of the bandwidth is between 3 Mbps and 12 Mbps for the download and half of it for the upload.

If you are planning to use some of the Sprint wireless broadband services plans, please check the coverage in your area. You can do this on their web site, where you can check availability of their services by entering your address or by checking their coverage map.

Along with 3G networks, Sprint wireless internet is also using the 4G technologies. Mobile WiMAX also called XOHM, is providing the speeds up to 8 Mbps. Sprint has launched its first 4G WiMAX network in Baltimore in 2008.

The other, even better and more advanced 4G technology is LTE. LTE is working on the frequency spectrum of 1.9GHz. Roll out of LTE will start by middle of 2012, while the whole network capable of serving 250 million of users will be completed by the end of 2013.

The Sprint plans start from 44.99$ per month for new users, with the limitation of 3 GB of data. With both plans, you can get a free USB Modem which you can use for connecting your notebook, iMac or PC to the internet. Cheaper plan uses old 3G technology, while higher cost plan uses the 4G technology, if it is available.

On the last survey for Wireless network Quality study made by JD D. Power and Associates, Sprint has poor rates for the Southeast, West and Mid Atlantic and North Central. Above average rates are for the Southwest and Northeast regions. The biggest reason for the poor rates is the coverage.

At the end, we can bring out the conclusion that Sprint wireless internet performance, speed and coverage are more than acceptable, but there are the problems with the coverage. If you decide to buy one of the different Sprint Mobile Broadband plans, please first check their national coverage map.

The Pros of Sprint wireless network are:

- High Bandwidth

- Covers most of big cities

Only few of us remember the excitement of browsing the web on a 28 kbit/s speed fax-modem or accessing the first dodgy WAP pages from our cell phones in the 90-s. It all seemed to be the maximum limit of the technology achievements. Today all that "top-notch gadgetry" would make a nice addition to museum treasure chest.

The word broadband came to use on or about year of 2000, when using a modem was gradually coming out of fashion. It was not cool any more. However, a question still remains: how to define broadband speed. Initially anything faster than a dial-up modem, i.e. 56 kbit/s, was regarded as high speed internet access. So is 64 kbit/s a decent rate? No, various companies and administrative bodies name different figures but a common rule is to regard speeds of 256 kbit/s and up as broadband.

Mobile broadband is accessible through a HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access), which is a technology available to 3G cell phones and gadgets. It is a very convenient type of connection that allows to hook up with the web on a laptop or desktop that has no capabilities to access a wired network (such as a landline or cable). A computer can be connected to mobile internet via a data card, USB modem and cell phones. Modern laptops frequently come with built-in wireless networking capabilities.

What does Mobile Broadband Speed Hold for the Future?

Despite the recession and overall murky conditions out there, wireless technologies and IT are going strong. In comparison with 2007 the number of mobile internet subscribers has increased by whole 125% within 2008 and now stands at staggering 210 million worldwide. Experts predict that in just five years time the number of subscribers would quadruple and reach a billion. Overall to date there are 400 million people having an access to the full glory of 3G capabilities but only a fraction of them uses it to a maximum potential. The number of 3G phones in use by 2013 is estimated to reach 1.8 billion still this is questionable because chances are we're all going to be on G4 in 5 years.

Currently many networks, even in Western Europe and USA, are on the sub-standard 1.8 Mbit/s mobile broadband speed. This might be enough for checking e-mails and browsing internet. Still, for that feeling of freedom you need more. 3.6 and 7.2 Mbit/s is what is regarded an industry standard for mobile broadband speed. It is not a surprise any more to see 14.4 Mbit/s advertised by some top-drawer telecommunications companies, but what about really fast internet?

Since the advance of HSPA plus technology, theoretically it is possible to achieve mobile broadband speed of 42 Mbit/s for downloading and 22 for uploading. Is this a part of science fiction? Not any more - the fastest wireless internet is offered in Australia. You can get the aforementioned rate at Telstra Next G network. They launched the network in mid 2008 and soon other companies followed. Now similar services are available to people of Singapore, Hong Kong and New Zealand. It is being tested in Europe but we'll have to wait for it to hit our favourite gadgets.

How Many Bits around the World?

So we have just found out that the fastest mobile internet is available in Australia. What about the good old conventional wired web? As surprising as it may sound, according to estimation, the fastest internet connection is recorded in Republic of Korea. They're enjoying speeds of more than 17 Mbit/s. Japan and Sweden follows closely. The republics of former Soviet Union are doing brilliantly. Countries like Russia and Moldova look really quick on 7 to 10 Mbit/s. Many Western European countries are really not up to scratch, for example United Kingdom - still on average 4.6 Mbit/s which is even slower than a normal wireless internet connection.

However, there is no need to worry. Technologies advance at a very quick pace and in just couple of years we are all probably going to have a democratic access to a really fast connection to the web.

There are certainly many iPhone cases out there, but many of these iPhone enclosures are similar looking. iPhone cases that are available in large numbers on the market today make it hard to pick one case from the others. An you want to pick a unique iPhone case among all the iPhone bags out there.

Among the different types of iPhone cases you will find for your baby there are bags and enclosures made from leather, fabric and also some rubber and you should see some case that really turn your iPhone into something really special. And to find this special iPhone case you will have to look at each of these cases in detail.

Among the better case makes for such bags include the names of Belkin, Contour Designs and maybe also Power Support whose iPhone cases will generally cost you about thirty dollars. Other makes worth considering when looking for a perfect iPhone case includes NLU Products that has its very own BodyGuardz that is a comprehensive enclosure for your iPhone's body which will prevent it from being scratched.

When looking among many iPhone cases before you make your decision on which to purchase, there are some things you need to keep in mind. One of these things are that better iPhone cases have in common that they do not take the appeal of your iPhone away and these cases can even improve on the iPhone's look through some strategic handling of the plastic that is used in them.

Perhaps, in my opinion, the best iPhone cases that are available today are of the Belkin Acrylic Case type for your iPhone. This company has spent considerable time and effort in mastering the skill necessary to design a great iPhone case and these cases will outline the camera, buttons, ports and also the switches very tightly and it gives the user just the right access to each iPhone part. It also have a belt clip that can be detached and the case can also be used as a stand for viewing videos on your iPhone.

But of course all things have a back side. And when it comes to the Belkin Acrylic Case for your iPhone, there are some issues that might detract from its high appeal and this includes having a greater open face that can put your iPhone at risk of becoming damaged in its case. There is also a notable absence of screen film and I would also like to have a full-face that detracts from this otherwise excellent iPhone case.

Now, you might also want to look at Contour Design cases who has their iSee collection that is another excellent example of iPhone cases. These are quite like the Belkin case in its concept and the iPhone bag is certainly a lot different when it comes to its execution. Among the notable differences you can include thick plastic and also more plastic on the face of your iPhone. You will certainly appreciate the solidity of this iPhone case. There are also a couple of side grips on this iPhone case that have been sculpted so that it becomes much easier to take your iPhone with you wherever you go. This makes it another good choice for your next iPhone case purchase.

Are you interested in developing apps for the iPhone? Do you want to know where to learn about iPhone software development? If you do read this article to find out more.

The iPhone has revolutionized the world of communication and entertainment, and also brought with it an overall access to knowledge that is unparalleled in human history. One of the main reasons for this technological renaissance is the invention of iPhone applications, or more simply apps. The landscape of iPhone apps is constantly growing with thousands of new apps created daily. People are not only interested in acquiring apps for their phones, they are also more and more interested in developing their own apps as it can be a great way to explore your creativity while also earning some good money on the side. In this article, I have listed some  iPhone books where anyone who is interested in exploring iPhone software development can find the information they need to put their creativity into practice, and begin to share their application inventions with the universe. In my opinion, purchasing a book to gain knowledge on iPhone software development is an essential investment when it comes to getting into the business of creating iPhone apps.

The first of the iPhone books that I believe to be useful is 'iPhone and iPad Apps for Absolute Beginners' by Rory Lewis. Obviously, this book is what its title implies; it is a good guide for people who have never developed software for the iPhone, and it can give you a step by step approach on how to learn this ability. This particular book thoroughly explains in plain English the basics to iPhone software development and how to create apps for the iPhone. 'iPhone and iPad Apps for Absolute Beginners' is great for the amateur app developer, but if you have more experience in this field, there are other iPhone books that can be beneficial.

One of these iPhone books is 'iPhone Advanced Projects' by Ben Smith, Dylan Bruzenak, Joachim Bondo, Owen Goss, Peter Honeder, Ray Kiddy, Steve Finkelstein, Tom Harrington, Jonathan Saggau, Noel Llopis, Joe Pezzillo, Florian Pflug, and David Mark. With this many authors, it is logical to assume this book has an extensive compilation of information for advanced iPhone software development. 'iPhone Advanced Projects' is for the iPhone software developer who wants to take their application building abilities to the next level. It includes ways to optimize the performance of your apps, how to debug errors in iPhone code, environment mapping and much more.

These are only a couple of the hundreds of iPhone books that are available to people who are interested in iPhone software development. As I mentioned before, there is a broad scope of iPhone books that people can purchase, ranging from beginner iPhone app development, to advanced, to game development and much more.

All three of the iPhone books mentioned in this article, as well as hundreds of others, can be found at hotphoneaccessories.com. This is a great site not only for a great selection of iPhone books, but also great iPhone accessories including iPhone cases, batteries, docking stations, chargers and much more. I recommend this site to anyone looking for a good deal on iPhone accessories.

With 2012 fast approaching along with it comes new mobile marketing opportunities that your business should follow as you consider efforts to spread the word about your brand and products and services through mobile. As mobile technology improves and the masses catch up with the advances, businesses should follow suit closely and observe their customers' interests and behaviors regarding mobile phone trends and use. 2011 featured a steep rise in text messaging, smartphone purchases and mobile advertising.

So what's in store for mobile marketing in 2012?

Here are our top trends to watch:

Mobile Trend # 1

Of course, more and more users will become initiated into mobile handsets. Not only will their number of users increase sharply; more types of new smartphones with more user-friendly capabilities will emerge. Internet marketers, therefore, should do their best to keep these customers, mostly young people, on their radar. The same goes for tablets.

Mobile Trend # 2

Text messaging will rise to a projected 8 trillion SMS in 2012. This is a rise of about a billion from the 6.9 billion SMS sent in 2011. This indicates that as long as there are mobile phones, SMS will always be in demand, along with MMS and instant messaging through the mobile phone. That means more fertile ground for marketers to experiment with catchy text messages and enticing graphics.

Mobile Trend # 3

Social networking sites will get more exposure on mobile phones. Social networking reaches far beyond the conventional computer: because our mobile devices are always with us, it is expected that more than half of social networking will be done on mobile phones - at any time and any place we want. That means more opportunities for marketers to reach audiences on the social networking sites when they are using them.

Mobile Trend # 4

More social games in mobile devices will be developed. They can be played anytime, anywhere, as long as you have a mobile device with you. Which means that companies smart enough to market with mobile games can achieve prominence in the mobile community.

Mobile Trend # 5

Location-based marketing will develop - that is, dishing out content based on where the recipients precisely are. Think of entering a restaurant and then receiving a SMS offering you some freebies once you order something from them. Sounds surprising, right? That novel technology can be achieved by Wi-Fi, RFID, and mobile phone tracking.

Mobile Trend # 6

There will be a large increase in spending by SMBs on mobile advertising. The $1.6 billion figure garnered last 2010 more than doubled to $3.3 billion in 2011, and 2012 is predicted to double that enormous figure again.

Mobile Trend # 7

Videos will become a greater trend in mobile marketing. With so many smartphones already capable of capturing video, it is time for Businesses to look at the bounds of video marketing beyond YouTube or similar. Videos can now be viewed anywhere, anytime, at convenience, and companies should poise themselves for it in the following years.

Mobile Trend # 8

More currency will exchange through mobile phones. 2 011 saw $86.1 billion move around the world in about 141 million exchanges. Thus, it is expected that companies who offer mobile payment will enhance its capabilities. Mobile banking will also be rising in developing countries where banks are scarce.

To sum up, the prosperity of 2011 for mobile marketing will carry over to 2012, with possibly more frontiers to open up.

To best answer the question regarding the influences of mobile technology on election processes and outcomes, it is important to look back upon the influence it had on the presidential election of 2008. Then candidate Barack Obama utilized technology in ways that were unprecedented in campaign politics, setting new standards for ad placement and saturation. There were advertisements placed within video games and supporters could receive text message updates informing them of actions needed to help the campaign effort. At the time, the techniques of the Obama campaign were somewhat revolutionary. Just four years later the same techniques are less engaging and less effective as potential voters are more tech-savvy and have higher expectations in regard to mobile user experience. We have all been bombarded by increasingly engaging and interactive advertising methods, and as a result, we are less impressed by the methods used last time around. The teams behind each candidate's mobile communication strategy will have to be cutting edge and thoughtful when preparing for the upcoming election, which is right around the corner.

Take, as an example of the changing face of mobile tech consumers, the increase in tablet owners. Surveys have indicated that 83% of smartphone and tablet users are registered voters, making communication through those devices absolutely mandatory for any serious candidate for a public office. Campaign leaders will have to be flexible to succeed in connecting with the population armed with tablets and other mobile devices which they all interact with in their own unique ways. Trying to connect with the vast number of the growing percentage of voters who get news and information through mobile applications with only one strategy will almost certainly fall short.

While President Obama set the bar for campaign utilization of mobile communication technology back in 2008, his challengers coming from the Republican Party who are trying to unseat the incumbent are forced to step up their mobile strategies accordingly. Republicans made strides in matching Democratic use of mobile communication during the 2010 mid-term elections. Mitt Romney and Michele Bachman are using Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube extensively to get the word out about their policy ideas and their criticisms of the current administrations' policies. Romney introduced his candidacy via his Facebook page and the introduction of the Twitter hashtag #mitt2012. Bachman made a great deal of news when she live streamed online her Tea Party response to the State of the Union Address. While it occurred before she declared her candidacy, it displayed an increase in usage of mobile and Internet-based communication.

No one can predict which candidate will best use Twitter or Facebook (among others) to communicate with the voters before we head to the polls in November. The nature of the medium lends itself toward unpredictability. What is for certain is that with traditional methods of mass communication, such as TV, radio, and print are becoming less relevant. Whoever takes most advantage of new media, mobile chief among them, might well see themselves at the top of the political heap when the votes are counted less than one year from today.

4G mobile technology is how people refer to the next generation of mobile services like the cell phones. It was just made available by at least one provider in a number of places in the US in 2009. Because it is still fresh, there is no established industry standard yet as to what constitutes 4G mobile. Thus, it is simply a marketing term in the mean time.

The letter G, used to shorten the word generation, in the mobile technology world covers the noticeable advances of the past 20-20 years. 1 G technology covered the first widely available mobile phones. Its successor, the 2G technology, began in the early 1990s - switching to a digital format and introduced the concept of text messaging. 3G technology made its mark by improving the way how data is carried, making it possible to have enhanced information services like websites in their original format. The famous iPhone is the best known example of this technology.

4G mobile technology is not yet established to have an agreed set of standards and protocols. This implies that its current features are simply goals and are not yet the full requirements. 4G mobile technology is still in the phase of developing enhanced security measures, since data transfer schemes are drastically increasing. Another 4G mobile technology goal is to overcome and minimize the blips in transmission when one device moves from one area to another covered by different networks. Another thing that 4G mobile technology is still working on is to figure out a way to use a network based on the IP address system used for the internet.

In the United States alone, there are two major systems using the 4G mobile technology. The first one is known as WiMax and is backed by Clearwire - a firm whose primary owner is Sprint Nextel. It began its testing phase of the system in Baltimore in 2008 and was set to expand overwhelmingly into major markets in 2009. The rival system is Long Term Evolution or LTE, which is backed by Verizon. It is expected to be ready for testing in 2010 but will not be available for use until 2012. LTE is hoping to overcome this disadvantage by providing faster speeds and producing cheaper equipment.

Unlike the previous generations of mobile technology, 4G mobile will be mainly used for internet access on computers and carrying cell phone communications. Customers in areas which have a strong 4G coverage can use it for a home broadband connection without needing any cables to be mounted in their household. It can also be used for accessing the internet outside the home without having to be stuck in a wireless hotspot like those that are offered by some coffee shops, airports and libraries.

In a recently conducted survey, it was revealed that most people switch their cellular phone providers not because of high priced call plans or poor customer services but because of poor network coverage inside their homes where 27% to 47% of all wireless minutes are spent. New technologies like Wi-Fi to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) have been introduced to tackle poor network coverage inside homes. The most effective technology for improvement of cell coverage is "FEMTOCELL". The word "femto" denotes something one-quadrillionth the size of a given unit, and is derived from Danish or Norwegian word "femtenFemtocells are small cellular phone base stations designed to be located inside offices or homes. They act as in-home wireless access points and use high speed internet connection rather than wireless network to route a call from a headset to the carrier's switching station from where it is directed to its destination. In simple language, Femtocell is a handy device, which looks like a -router or modem capable of sidestepping nearby towers and the weak coverage they sometimes provide. They use a DSL/Cable connection to backhaul traffic or in simple words they connect cellular networks through broadband lines such as digital subscriber line (DSL) or fiber to the home (FTTH). Therefore, the purpose of FEMTOCELL is to provide mobile phone users a good and effective network in areas away from existing base stations. Carriers are busy looking for new methods to find a solution to the ever increasing demands of the users for greater and extended coverages.

In comparison to better-established technologies like Wi-Fi and WiMax which deliver high speed internet access. Ray Smets, Vice-President marketing in the broadband solution group at Motorola said that femtocells were getting an equal amount of energy in terms of importance and they were being considered just as significant as other wireless technologies that were being developed. Search giant Google, invested $20 million on Britain based femtocell startup Ubiquisys. Thomson, world's largest producer of DSL modems, collaborated with infrastructure maker Nokia Siemens Networks to develop femtocell gear. Netgear which makes Wi- Fi routers, co-founded Femto Forum primarily to promote femtocell standards and applications. World leaders in technology, Motorola and world web search leader Google are the first companies to sincerely work on the improvement of mobile coverage inside houses/buildings. They are investing tremendous resources for speedy development of femtocells. Recently, Motorola bought Startup Netopia to add to its femtocell efforts. The main question is why there is a sudden flurry of interest on wireless technology like femtocell? According to a consultancy ABI Research, by 2012, there will be more than 150 million users of femtocell products on 70 million access points worldwide. That's a huge advancement of a technology which is in trails now. Femtocell technology can give newcomers such as Google, a big launch in the wireless market while offering competition to existing telecom providers such as AT&T and Vonage.

Augmented reality (AR) is defined as a live, direct view of the physical environment augmented by computer-assisted sensory input including sound, video, graphics or GPS information. As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one's current perception of reality. When AR is combined with mobile commerce or mCommerce, large retailers poise themselves in the front of the pack by deciding and planning their marketing strategies in using this system. Augmented reality marketing is now being coined as the new and hottest marketing techniques out there.

"The biggest story is that people are becoming more attached to their PDA's and using them more in their daily lives", said Al Ferrera, national director of retail and consumer product practice at BDO USA, Chicago. A recent survey of the chief financial officers from the top 100 largest retailers found that 100 percent of ten of the largest retailers and 54 percent of the rest studied said that they planned to increase their mobile investments in 2012.

By implementing AR with the mobile apps, large retailers are able to touch their customers more closely while creating a more intriguing experience for the consumer when presenting their products and services. Augmented reality marketing entirely enhances the shopping experience by artfully attracting the consumer's attention and allowing them to virtually participate in their shopping experience.

A good example of this is a company that created an AR mobile app for the iPhone where the app gets frames from an eyeglass company and allows consumers to virtually try on various frames and styles. This interesting app also allows the consumers to send photos of themselves through the various social networks in order to glean the opinion of friends, who might be able to give good advice. This web-based AR mobile app generated a 50 percent month to month increase in revenue for this particular company while 30 percent of the visitors participated in what AR had to offer. Large retailers are also experimenting with AR and mCommerce apps that allow consumers the ability to virtually try on jewelry or even apply make-up.

Our entire shopping experience is currently being completely transformed by augmented reality marketing. Not only will shopping become easier and faster, it appears that it's going to become much more interesting as well. As of now, we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg of a new and exciting approach to cutting edge marketing.

In 2012 there is a huge new market of people who are now using iPad, Kindle fire, iPhone and many types of tablets and internet connection devices. You must figure out how to reach these new techies and you need to do it before your competition does.

Tip 1: Can you put together 20-30 pages of information on your favorite Avon products and put them into a kindle Ebook? Sit some where quite and well lit and write a list of your favorite Avon products. Think about how you use them. Think about why you use them. Why do you think other people should use them? Put all your ideas on paper. Now put all your information together and put them into a PDF file and put it on kindle or give it away at free eBook websites. Make sure you put your web site address and all your contact information in your Ebook. If you take the time to write your Avon eBook it will bring more traffic to your web site. You should also put your eBook on your website as a free gift for people who join your online newsletter or your website. Your eBook could also be about why you think people should start their own Avon business. You could use this eBook to sign up new reps for your down line.

Tip 2: Get an I phone QR Code that directs people to go to your Avon web site. What is a QR code? A QR code is a bar code that can be scanned with a modern cell phone. The code is an interactive link. For example you see an ad in the newspaper and you scan the QR code icon and you will instantly get more information and a link to the product website. You can make one online for free go to google.com and type in "make a free QR Code". Once you get your own QR code you should put it on all of your advertising media outlets.

Tip 3: Make your own I phone App. You can make an app online for free that you can resell or give it away for free. What kind of app can you make that pertains to your Avon business? Now go back to Tip 1 and see what eBook ideas you came up with. You could make an app about your favorite Avon products or you could make an app about moms that stay at home and work for themselves because of their Avon representative business. You are only limited by your own imagination. One of my favorite interactive app creation tools is Ibuildapp you can make a full app online for free with no coding skills needed. I love this program because honestly I am code illiterate. It is as simple as 1,2,3. Go to Google and type in "Ibuildapp".

Tip 4: Build a new website to sign up new reps. You can get a blog online for free. If you do not have your own blog then you need to stop what you are doing right now and go get one! Blogs are mandatory for all businesses now. You should have two blogs one to up sell your Avon business and two for signing up new representatives. Your blog should be interactive and should have huge amounts of information about your company. Your second blog should offer great ideas that you use everyday for your Avon product sales. You must help your down line. Get them involved, help them sell more products. Our team meets once a week to discuss previous sales and new sales ideas. We do all kind of fundraisers and sales venues. I do a contest every month for the reps who sell the most products. And let me tell you they work hard for a pamper day and a 200 dollar gift card for Avon products. But this is how I show them I appreciate all their work and you should do something for your stellar reps as well.

Tip 5: This will be your most important tip. Don't just think about new sales or rep sign ups. Get out there and make new sales happen. Sign up new reps and enjoy your wonderful Avon business. Teach others to sell Avon. Make your own team. Make more money and spend more time with your family. It is easy to day dream about making your business a complete success. It is harder to work at it but the reward is making your day dream into a reality and not just a day dream anymore. Do you want a new house? Do you want a new car? Do you want your family and friends to respect you as a business owner? Unfortunately no one is going to come to you tomorrow and just give you what you want. But you should be proud of yourself right now! You took the first step by starting your Avon business. And now you are responsible to make it a success. Get out there and make 2012 the year your dreams came true!

Video cameras are being installed in many new applications. Nanny-cams, police and home security networks, traffic jam monitors, and small-business webcams are just a few of the video monitoring devices employed by and for the average American.

A report from "Research and Markets" says that the global closed circuit television (CCTV) market grew at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 24.3% in 2007 and is forecast to grow at a CAGR of approximately 23% from 2008 to 2012.

Systems are available for the "do-it-yourself" type. Systems that can be installed with wireless transmission of the video signal helps in this regard. More sophisticated systems may require the utilization of a professional installation.

There are three types of CCTV technologies. The oldest technology units are analog systems. These systems have the lowest cost for the hardware, and are useful for some services.

The second type of CCTV is called hybrid technology. These systems capture the image with analog cameras, and convert the signals to digital format, which can be more economical if it is necessary to retain long periods of video. By digitizing the data, software manipulation of the image becomes possible.

The newest player in security cameras is the IP camera. This camera technology can be implemented anywhere where a computer network is available. Because the interface cables may be avoided, this solution can result in the lowest cost and quickest installation. This type of interface is also best when the distance between camera and host is significant.

Night vision cameras are becoming more common. There are two types of night vision cameras: those that can capture an image with little light, and those that have infrared lamps (most often IR LEDs). The distance that can be seen by an IR camera is proportionate to the output of IR light. While in infrared mode, an infrared camera will record only in black and white, but there are cameras available that can monitor with color during daylight hours. Sensors on the camera automatically switch from color recording to black and white according to the light level. Avoid using an infrared camera that is contained in a glass or acrylic front outdoor housing. Infrared light will reflect off the housing, creating glare that obscures the image.

Data storage is always a significant problem with CCTV. Video surveillance systems can be memory hogs (For example, video with resolution of 640 x 480 at 30 frames per second and I420 pixel format requires 640 x 480 x 30 x 1.5 = 13 MB data per second). For this reason, most systems include signal compression to reduce the required capacity. Even with signal compression, it will be necessary to decide on the period of data retention, and sample rate.

Video analytics is the technology of applying software techniques to the interpretation of the video image, so that a computer can filter the data, and call attention to a human operator if necessary. It is important to understand the current limitations of this technology. One should not expect that a CCTV system incorporating video analytics will replicate human perception. Video images of busy environments can be very difficult to interpret for a computer, but images that are more static can be more successfully measured. What video analytics can do is act as a "force multiplier", allowing a single human to effectively monitor many cameras.

Security cameras provide us with an additional layer of security, and as the technology improves, this layer will continue to grow in popularity and importance.

As an extension of their DISTRONIC PLUS adaptive cruise control system, Mercedes-Benz vehicles will start to feature PRE-SAFE braking. PRE-SAFE gives the car the ability to apply full braking measures in emergencies to reduce the severity of accidents.

PRE-SAFE works by sounding three warning tones when it senses an impending collision. Approximately 1.6 seconds before an accident is likely, partial braking automatically occurs. If the driver still does not react to the warnings, the car will activate full-braking measures about 0.6 seconds before impact, reducing the impact and "effectively acting as an electronic crumple zone," according to Mercedes-Benz.

These new innovations on the PRE-SAFE system build on the already proven PRE-SAFE braking system that was originally released in 2002. In its initial debut PRE-SAFE automatically tightened the seatbelts, moved the power seats to a position that could provide better protection for the passengers, and rolled up the windows to provide better support for the side curtain airbags.

DISTRONIC PLUS Lessen the Pain of Stop-and-Go Traffic

Able to operate at nearly all speeds up to 124 mph, DISTRONIC PLUS can be especially helpful in stop and go traffic. The system is a much more advanced form of adaptive cruise control, which forces the car to maintain a set distance from vehicles in front of it. The system will even bring the car to a complete stop if necessary.

DISTRONIC PLUS uses multiple short range radar beams. The first, 24 gigahertz beam, sweeps the first 33 yards in a fan shaped pattern with an 80-degree rang. The second beam, a longer range 77 gigahertz version, sweeps a 9-degree range. Putting data from the two together, the system is able to monitor more than 160 yards in front of the vehicle. The system was so effective in testing that during the approval process for the use of 24 gigahertz radar in automobiles, government agencies cited the potential to improve traffic safety, reduce injuries and ultimately save lives.

Blind Spot Assist and Park Assist

The DISTRONIC PLUS system is now also available with blind spot assist. This feature will alert a driver with visual and audible warnings if the turn signal is activated with another vehicle in your blind spot.

The Park Assist feature utilizes six ultrasonic sensors mounted at the front and rear of the car. At low, parking lot speeds, the system can scan available parking spaces to determine if your car will fit. Once an acceptable size spot is found a "P" is displayed in the dash. When the car is put into reverse with Park Assist on the system will display a top-view picture of the car and the parking space.

Advanced Park Assist, offered in vehicles with electro-hydraulic power steering, will make parallel parking much easier. The system will still scan to make sure the vehicle will fit into the space, but this time when the reverse gear is engaged and the driver confirms they wish us the Advance Park Assist the car will control the steering of the car while the driver controls the acceleration and braking, at speeds below 7 mph.

These new safety features will be available on the 2012 S-Class Sedan, CL and CLS coupe and E-Class line models. Mercedes will likely make these options available on more models in the next year or so, or as the market demands.

The old saying is Curiosity killed the Cat, which makes NASA's name for its new Mars rover 'Curiosity' an interesting choice! The Mars rover named Curiosity was launched at the end of November 2011, and is the fourth generation Mars rover. This new Mars rover is the size of a Mini car, and is currently hurtling through space in a flying saucer shaped shell. The new ingenious design is the most elaborate and expensive vehicle ever sent to Mars. The Mars rover is housed on six castors wheels, each of these wheels are over 50 centimetres in diameter. Each wheel has its own drive motor and the rover can achieve speeds of 4 centimetres per second. This doesn't sound like a land speed record, but Curiosity is armed with laser beams, magnifying cameras and navigation cameras with the intention of analysing soil and ice samples looking for evidence of life.

At an astounding cost of £1.6 billion pounds this mission will reach Mars by August 2012. The three meter long rover on motorised castors is twice as long and five times as heavy as the last two rovers Spirit and Opportunity that launched in 2003. Curiosity will spend one Martian year, or 98 Earth weeks exploring the planet, travelling up to two hundred meters a day on the rubber wheels and castors. This two year mission on Mars will see the rover drive on rubber castors along canyons and up mountain within the enormous Gale crater. But just getting the rover to Mars is a monumental and formidable challenge. So far two out of three rovers on motorised castors missions have failed. The most recent failure being the Russian probe called Phobos-Grunt which was headed for a Martian moon, but got stuck in orbit and is falling back to Earth. In 1999 Nasa's polar lander crash landed on mars because scientists mixed up their imperial and metric calculations. Who can forget the twin Spirit and Opportunity rovers on castors, who bounced onto the Martian surface in giant airbags.

The Curiosity rover on huge rubber castors and wheels, is much larger and heavier than its predecessors. It will enter Martian atmosphere protected by a saucer shaped aero shell travelling at 21,000km per hour. Four minutes after entry a supersonic parachute opens to slow the capsule and the heat shield protecting the rover and the castors and wheels is jettisoned. Fifty seconds from landing the newly invented sky crane and rover drop away from the backshell and eight huge thrusters ignite to control the descent and hover the rover over the Martian surface. At this point the six huge rover castors and wheels deploy and the rover touches down just six minutes after atmospheric entry. The rover will then spend two years, travel fifteen miles analysing soil and ice looking for life. Nasa is wary of describing the mission on wheels as a bug hunt, for fear of disappointing the American taxpayers. But for many scientists and astronomers Curiosity is an exciting adventure into the unknown and by next August we may be seeing our world and universe differently, thanks to the help of castors and wheels, and the several American Billion dollars!
