NYNY Presents at the 2013 Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Fundraising Day in New York!

New York Needs You’s VP of Strategic Partnerships Anita Fee Willis and former VP of Programs, Venessa Mendenhall, will present at the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Fundraising Day in New York on Friday, June 7th. Their presentation “Building a Robust In-Kind Gift Program: A Case Study of New York Needs You” will focus on building partnerships with corporate donors using in-kind support to create, bolster and sustain funding relationships. ’wichcraft, Riverpark & Riverpark Farm President & CEO Jeffrey Zurofsky, Goldman Sachs & Co. Chief Diversity Officer and NJNY Board Member Edith Hunt, and Macy’s Director of College Relations and NYNY Mentor Coach Lindsey Nelsen will be on the panel, representing three of NYNY’s great corporate partners.

Fundraising Day in New York is the premier east coast conference on philanthropy. This one-day event brings together the best and brightest nonprofit professionals from around the world to share their thoughts and advice.

Leverage your professional experience as a Mentor Coach and work one-on-one with a high-potential, low-income, first-generation college student to select, secure, and succeed in his or her chosen career. You will serve as a role model and resource following our structured career development curriculum along with a volunteer network of highly-accomplished and committed professionals from a variety of industries across the city.

NYNY’s Mentor Leadership Council presents the 2013 Spring Clothing Drive!

We are excited to announce that the MLC will be collecting donations at NYNY’s March 9th workshop to outfit Fellows for upcoming internships, interviews and professional careers. We are looking for professional attire, including:

Suits - Coats - Shirts - Ties - Jackets - Sweaters - Shoes - Portfolios -Briefcases
Purses - Laptops - Accessories (belts, watches, wallets, glasses, etc.)

We encourage you to donate as many items as you can, but please bring clean items in good condition. If you’re not sure if something is appropriate, ask yourself if a Fellow could wear it to an interview. All donations of professional attire are welcome, but we are especially seeking in-season (Spring/Summer) items. All donations are tax-deductible. Donation instructions below.

To donate items, please:

Bring them to our workshop on Saturday, March 9th at John Jay College (860 11th Avenue between 58th and 59th Streets). Drop-off donations will be accepted from 8:30 am to 10:30 am. We will not be able to accept any donations after 10:30 am.

If you cannot bring them to our workshop, you can donate in the following ways:

Drop them off by Wednesday, 3/6 at the NYNY office from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
Ship them to the NYNY office by Wednesday, 3/6

We encourage you to invite your friends and colleagues to donate, as well!

NYNY Presents at the 2013 National Mentoring Summit!

New York Needs You’s VP of Programs Venessa Mendenhall will be presenting at the third annual National Mentoring Summit on Thursday, Jan.24th in Washington, D.C. Her presentation “Building Strategic Corporate Partnerships” will focus on how nonprofits and corporations can work together to benefit the community. NYNY Mentor Coach and NJNY Board Member Melissa Kinckle and Kate Sweeney–representing respectively Bluewolf and the Princeton Review, two of NYNY’s great partners, will be co-presenting on the panel. We are proud to have iMentor join us on stage, as well.

The two-day Summit, organized by MENTOR, the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the Harvard School of Public Health, the U.S. Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) and United Way Worldwide will bring together more than 650 attendees from leading youth-serving organizations. The Theme of the 2013 Summit is “Mentoring Works: Inspire. Achieve. Advocate.” Government, civic, research and corporate leaders will share best program models and practices with the goal to ensure that more youth receive quality mentoring.

Team NYNY is about to go viral and we need your help! We are asking our entire volunteer network to make their own CrowdRise page to multiply the efforts of Team NYNY and help NYNY reach new supporters. NYNY Congratulates iMentor - 2012 Recipient of our BOLD Award

NYNY is proud to announce that iMentor has been awarded NYNY’s 2012 BOLD Award; an annual award given to a nonprofit that has gone above and beyond for NYNY. BOLD stands for Bridging Opportunities, Leveraging Dreams.

As a collaborative partner, iMentor has supported NYNY in numerous ways. iMentor has served as an important thought partner for NYNY in areas such as volunteer engagement, recruitment and large-scale event planning. Recently, iMentor led a brainstorming session with our volunteer engagement team and Mentor Leadership Council to help us plan our first annual Field Day. In addition to sharing their best practices gleaned from years of experience hosting Field Days for their mentors and students, they also generously donated equipment for us to use for our event. iMentor also continues to support our Fellows interested in learning more about the nonprofit industry by sharing their internship opportunities with our Fellows. They are also working to host a group of our Fellows at their office to give them an inside look at how a premiere nonprofit operates. With continued support and collaboration, we are confident we can advance the mentoring field in New York and across the country.

NYNY is proud to announce that Goldman, Sachs & Co. is the winner of its inaugural Champion of the Year Award! Since NYNY's inception, Goldman, Sachs & Co. has provided critical financial and in-kind support. To date, Goldman, Sachs & Co. has hosted 14 NYNY workshops, provided 6 Fellows with internships and through volunteering endeavors have had over 100 Goldman professionals engage with NYNY. We were delighted to highlight Goldman, Sachs & Co. as the recipient of this award at our September 12th Benefit Dinner.
