Ideatec, en el 'Top 10' mundial de descargas de Apple con su nuevo juego 'Slide Soccer'

Es un videojuego gratuito de fútbol que permite múltiples jugadores 'on line'
Más de un millón de personas de 115 países se han descargado ya el juego

La firma bilbaína Ideateca, especializada en el desarrollo de videojuegos y aplicaciones para dispositivos móviles y redes sociales, acaba de ampliar su catálogo con un nuevo juego denominado 'Slide Soccer' que, en la primera semana desde su lanzamiento, en el portal de Apple se ha colocado ya en el 'Top 10' de aplicaciones más descargadas de la multinacional en todo el mundo. En total, más de un millón de personas de 115 países ya han jugado al 'Slide Soccer', que emula las partidas de 'chapas' que juegan todos los niños.
Según ha informado la empresa, el nuevo juego dispone de varios niveles de dificultad y puede ser personalizado con diferentes motivos cambiando el terreno de juego (hierba, hielo, tierra, ...), el tipo de balón utilizado (de fútbol, de rugby, de golf), o mejorando la táctica con distintos tipos de chapas (tradicionales, de metal, de madera, etc.).

El nuevo videojuego (se puede bajar de forma gratuita desde la plataforma de juegos de Ideateca, www.ludei.es) se dirige en un primer momento a dispositivos de la multinacional Apple (tanto los móviles iPhone, como las tabletas digitales iPad), aunque la firma bilbaína ya ha comenzado a trabajar para adaptarlo próximamente a la plataforma Android (sistema operativo para los dispositivos móviles de Google).

Permite jugar 'on line' con otros usuarios

"Slide Soccer se caracteriza por ser un juego muy adictivo que permite la posibilidad de jugar con otros usuarios en modo 'on line'. De esta manera se puede jugar contra tu dispositivo, con dos personas en el mismo dispositivo, o bien, en tiempo real 'on line' contra otros jugadores de todo el mundo gracias al sistema multijugador Game Center" ha explicado el consejero delegado de Ideateca, Eneko Knörr.

El nuevo juego se ha convertido ya en un éxito comercial. En el primer mes desde su lanzamiento, más de un millón de personas de 115 países de todo el mundo se han descargado ya el juego. En este corto período de tiempo, se ha colocado ya en el 'Top 5' de aplicaciones gratuitas de Apple en España.

"Lo más importante -ha señalado Eneko Knörr- es que en tan sólo una semana nos hemos colocado en el 'Top 10' de aplicaciones más descargadas de Estados Unidos, pero también en más de 50 países del mundo. Ninguna otra compañía española ha logrado este hito y menos en un plazo tan corto".

Espera repetir el éxito de 'ibasket'

El nuevo juego de Ideateca quiere repetir el éxito de su laureado juego 'iBasket' (la aplicación española para dispositivos móviles más descargada en todo el mundo). Así, desde su lanzamiento hace ahora año y medio, el juego que emula partidas de baloncesto ha sido descargado ya por más de 13 millones de usuarios de todo el mundo en la plataforma de Apple.

De hecho, este videojuego se coló, al igual que ahora ha sucedido con Slide Soccer, en el 'Top 10' de aplicaciones más descargadas de la plataforma Apple. En total, el conjunto de juegos de Ideateca superan los 15 millones de descargas en todo el mundo.

Tres años de Ideateca

Ideateca es una empresa creada hace ahora casi tres años en la capital vizcaína. Con una plantilla de cerca de 25 profesionales de elevado perfil, está especializada en el desarrollo de contenidos y juegos para múltiples dispositivos.
Desde su puesta en marcha, los socios de Ideateca ha invertido más de un millón de euros en el área de I+D+i, con el objeto de crear aplicaciones interactivas web líderes a nivel mundial, muy enfocadas a las nuevas redes sociales.

En la actualidad, Ideateca está inmersa en un ambicioso plan estratégico encaminado a consolidar su posición de liderazgo en el desarrollo de nuevos proyectos web 2.0 y videojuegos. Además, recientemente ha lanzado nuevos videojuegos para redes sociales, Sumón, y móviles, Videopuzzle. En esta ocasión nos muestran por primera vez en acción con los gráficos del juego a la recién desvelada Asuka, la prima de Jin Kazama y cuyo estilo de lucha recuerda enormemente al de la desaparecida Jun Kazama, una de las luchadoras de Tekken 2. Asuka hizo su primera aparición en Tekken 5.

Las claves del proyecto 'antipiratería' de EEUU

Las movilizaciones en la Red contra las futuras normas estadounidenses contra la llamada 'piratería' en Internet, impulsadas en el Congreso tanto por republicanos como demócratas, son la última línea de defensa contra dos versiones de un proyecto de ley que, de aprobarse, tendrá efectos no sólo en sitios estadounidenses, sino en cualquier página web en todo el mundo.

Estas son las claves de un controvertido proyecto que prevé eliminar 'de facto' el acceso a sitios web que no respeten los derechos de propiedad intelectual.

Qué es SOPA-PIPA

Se trata de las dos versiones de un proyecto ideado para tratar de detener la distribución en la Red de material protegido por 'copyright', SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act, o ley para detener la' piratería' en línea) en la Cámara de Representantes, y PIPA (Protect IP Act) en el Senado. EEUU ya cuenta con una normativa al respecto específica desde 1998, llamada 'Digital Millenium Copyright Act', que obliga a retirar de la Red cualquier material considerado ilegal. La novedad es que trasciende las fronteras, dado que prevé que se pueda actuar contra sitios web infractores de cualquier parte del mundo.

Por qué se plantea

El objetivo de esta normativa es acabar con la distribución 'online' no autorizada de películas, música u otros bienes estadounidenses, así como impedir que los ciudadanos de EEUU puedan acceder a los mismos. Para ello, de aprobarse, el Gobierno estadounidense y los afectados podrán solicitar a los jueces que actúen contra páginas infractoras, aunque sean de fuera de EEUU.

Cómo funciona

El proyecto prevé que se pueda ordenar el bloqueo de sitios web extranjeros en EEUU. Así, los proveedores podrán verse obligados a eliminar de sus servidores los sitios infractores, los buscadores tendrán que eliminar estas páginas de sus resultados de búsqueda, las compañías de publicidad se verán obligadas a interrumpir sus anuncios en dichos sitios supuestamente infractores y se podrá ordenar la interrupción de los servicios de pago, como PayPal o Visa, vinculados a esas páginas.

Uno de los puntos más controvertidos, que casi con seguridad quedará eliminado del proyecto definitivo, es la posibilidad de impedir el acceso a sitios infractores mediante el bloqueo de DNS, es decir, modificando el sistema que relaciona el nombre de un sitio web (por ejemplo, elmundo.es) con su dirección IP (193.110.128.200). Algunos críticos aseguraban que esas medidas podrían conducir a muchos usuarios a navegar por sitios de riesgo, con navegadores modificados u otros cambios que podrían ser usados por estafadores 'online'.

Por qué la llamamos 'ley Sinde (Wert)' de EEUU

El espíritu que subyace en este proyecto es similar a las polémicas medidas aprobadas hace un año en España -y que se pondrán próximamente en marcha- para controlar los intercambios no autorizados de material protegido por derechos de autor. Se trata de actuar contra los sitios web y no contra los usuarios, mediante un procedimiento rápido que impida el acceso a las páginas web que resulten sancionadas.

Quién apoya esto

La industria del entretenimiento (música, películas, videojuegos...) ha sido el principal soporte de este plan contra la 'piratería', apoyados por otras con fuertes intereses en mantener la protección de la propiedad intelectual e industrial, como el sector farmacéutico, así como la poderosa Cámara de Comercio de EEUU, informa Reuters.
Este proyecto tiene el apoyo tanto de congresistas como de senadores demócratas y republicanos, que insisten en las pérdidas económicas de la llamada 'piratería', estimadas en unos 135.000 millones de dólares (unos 100.000 millones de euros) anuales. Según informa María Ramírez, entre las excepciones del partido demócrata está Mel Watt, que se quejó de que la ley "abre la puerta a la censura gubernamental".

Quién está en contra

Las protestas contra este proyecto están siendo lideradas por los principales grupos y compañías de Internet, aglutinadas en la Netcoalition, así como por grupos de defensa de las libertades en la Red y una gran parte de usuarios, coordinados en plataformas como Stop American Censorship o Web Goes on Strike. Al afectar potencialmente a cualquier sitio, las quejas se han expandido a gran parte del planeta, tal y como explican sitios que también participan en las protestas, como Barrapunto o Alt1040.

Electronic Arts se saca de la manga una atractiva promoción para dos de sus próximos juegos, Kingdoms of Amalur y Mass Effect 3. Sendos títulos tendrán demostraciones descargables antes de sus respectivos lanzamientos y quienes se animen a jugarlas recibirán objetos para el juego opuesto.

Así, jugando la demo de Mass Effect 3 se concederán dagas Omni-blade (arma que porta Shepard en la nueva aventura intergaláctica) y una armadura adaptadas a la temática medieval de Kingdoms of Amalur.

Realizando el proceso inverso, los jugadores de Mass Effect 3 podrán acceder a una armadura diseñada por Todd McFarlane y a un arma exclusiva. La demo de Kingdoms of Amalur se lanzará la próxima semana. La de Mass Effect todavía no tiene fecha.

Now, the robots are self aware and causing all sorts of trouble. Yeah, we've certainly seen this song and dance time and time again, but I have total faith in the Yakuza team to tell a story that feels fresh and compelling. MoonMana, the developer who boasts "really stunning games" as their tagline, continues to live up to that standard with this lovely but simple pair of arcade games, Stellar Hunter and Stellar Hunter 2.

Sweep your mouse around the screen to catch all the stars you can as they zip around in different patterns to avoid you, which nets you experience points that levels up your circle's radius and magnetism. And that's... pretty much it, actually.
Both Stellar Hunter games are more or less identical, although you might say the sequel has somewhat more visually dynamic stages, but they also both belong to that particular category of games that function almost more like a virtual lava lamp than anything else; lovely, relaxing, and, like, whoa, man.

The visuals are soft and hypnotic, the music lets you pretend you're trapped inside a Mass Effect mini-game on the Normandy, and while they don't give you any real objectives, if all you want is something with no real purpose other than to bombard your eyeballs and the pleasure center of your brain with loveliness and a vague sense of accomplishment, Stellar Hunter will do just fine.

Desde que inició el CES 2012, hemos deseado jugar con los dispositivos electrónicos más modernos, desde tabletas hasta pantallas 3D. ¿Te quieres divertir?

RAZER PROJECT FIONA. La compañía Razer se presentó en el CES con este prototipo de lo que podría convertirse en la tableta más exclusiva en el mundo de los videojuegos, con el poder suficiente para correr juegos de PC.

Por ahora este aparato se encuentra en sus etapas de desarrollo, y planea llevar a los videojuegos portátiles a otro nivel con sus mandos a los lados de la tableta y su pantalla de diez pulgadas. Los títulos con movimiento también se verían beneficiados con el giroscopio interno. ¿qué les parece?

KINECT PARA WINDOWS. El gran anuncio de Microsoft durante el E3 fue dedicado a la llegada de Kinect a la PC. Aún no se conoce cuales serán los usos que planea la compañía para su cámara con sensores de movimiento, pero todo parece indicar que la imaginación es el límite.

Si ya eres dueño de Kinect, a partir del primero de febrero podrás actualizar tu PC con Windows para utilizar el accesorio. Los que no cuenten con la cámara podrán conseguirlo por $249, solo que no podrán divertirse con el Xbox 360.

LENOVO YOGA. Llega la primera Ultrabook con un novedoso diseño que promete mucho. ¿Qué el lo innovador? Se transforma en una tableta al voltear la pantalla.

SWTOR Class Roles - What's this all about anyways?

This lens talks about SWTOR Class Roles, which is very useful to know when you are deciding which class or advanced class to choose in Star Wars: The Old Republic.

So you've bought the game, all excited, and you get stuck in. You join a guild and everything is looking good...

Then you suddenly get chucked out because you don't have any healing abilities. Or perhaps you don't inflict enough damage...

If this has happened to you, or even if this makes absolutely no sense to you, then you're in the right place! :o)

I will explain what the SWTOR class roles are, and why you should bear this in mind when you choose your character's class and specialisation.

SWTOR Class Roles Explained

There are three main SWTOR class roles - Damage dealers, Tankers and Healers.

SWTOR Class Roles - Damage Dealers

These are the advanced classes that are able to deal damage. That is, they are able to launch attacks that inflict damage on their opponents.

There are two types of damage dealers:

- Ranged DPS (Damage per second) classes are able to engage in combat such that they can cause damage to opponents at long range. So generally this would be, for example, the use of guns, bow and arrows, etc;

- Melee DPS classes engage in combat such that they are only able to inflict damage to an opponent at close or medium range, which is perhaps arm's length or the length of the arm and the wielded weapon.

As you can imagine, a lot of players prefer to be able to deal damage, because not many people are particularly all about playing in groups, and this would give them the option of being able to play alone if they so wish.

SWTOR Class Roles - Tankers

These are the advanced classes that are able to take damage. So effectively they are able to withstand attacks without losing a great deal of health.

SWTOR Class Roles - Healers

These are the advanced classes with healing abilities, such that they are able to heal up any characters that sustain damage from opponents' attacks.

SWTOR Class Roles According to Advanced Classes
Each of the SWTOR class roles are particular to each advanced class. I will now go through each one and explain what their roles and abilities are:

SWTOR Class Roles - Jedi Consular
Sage and Shadow

Sage - Ranged DPS, Healing abilities; Long-ranged damage dealer with a single lightsaber and crowd control.

Shadow - Melee burst DPS, Tanking; Mid-range damage dealer that uses a dual lightsaber and stealth.

SWTOR Class Roles - Jedi Knight
Sentinel and Guardian

Sentinel - Melee DPS; Offensive primary damage dealer that uses a dual lightsaber and temporary stealth.

Guardian - Melee DPS and tanking; Defensive tanker that uses a single lightsaber, heavy armour and group/party buffs.

SWTOR Class Roles - Smuggler
Gunslinger and Scoundrel

Gunslinger - Ranged DPS (low damage with burst); Wields fast dual pistols and explosives in long range combat, and uses cover.

Scoundrel - Ranged DPS, Melee burst DPS, Healing; Hybrid advanced class that engages combat in close and medium range, and uses stealth.

SWTOR Class Roles - Trooper
Commando and Vanguard

Commando - Ranged DPS, Healing; Inflicts heavy damage, and uses grenades and heavy blaster cannon.

Vanguard - Ranged DPS, Melee burst DPS, Tanking; More defensive than Commando, and uses blaster rifles with energy shields for defence.

SWTOR Class Roles - Sith Inquisitor
Sith Sorcerer and Sith Assassin

Sith Sorcerer - Ranged DPS, Healing; Uses crowd control and force lightning to deal damage at range and to heal allies.

Sith Assassin - Melee burst DPS, Tanking; Uses a dual lightsaber and stealth.

SWTOR Class Roles - Sith Warrior
Marauder and Juggernaut

Marauder - Melee DPS; Offensive damage dealer that uses a dual lightsaber and temporary combat stealth.

Juggernaut - Melee DPS, Tanking; More defensive than Marauder, and uses a single lightsaber, heavy armour and darkside auras.

SWTOR Class Roles - Imperial Agent
Sniper and Operative

Sniper - Ranged DPS; Uses a sniper rifle, droids and probes to spy on and eliminate targets, and de-buffs opponents using poisons.

Operative - Ranged DPS, Melee burst DPS, Healing; Hybrid advanced class that is involved more in close range attacks, and uses stealth. Good combination of damage dealing and healing skills.

SWTOR Class Roles - Bounty Hunter
Mercenary and Powertech

Mercenary - Ranged DPS, Healing; Uses dual-wielding guns and missiles.

Powertech - Melee DPS, Excellent tanking ability; Mid-range damage dealing with the flamethrower as the main weapon, and shields for defence.

Which SWTOR advanced classes can heal?
This is a common question that group-oriented players have, about which SWTOR advanced classes can heal. Apparently some players have been kicked out of groups because they do not have the much needed healing ability.

Well, it should be straight forward to figure out from everything above, but the advanced classes that can heal are:

In the Republic classes: Trooper - Commando; Smuggler - Scoundrel; Jedi Consular - Sage.

In the Sith Empire classes: Bounty Hunter - Mercenary; Imperial Agent - Operative; Sith Inquisitor - Sith Sorcerer.

So, if you are interested in picking a SWTOR advanced class with healing abilities, then you may not want to look any further than these advanced classes listed above.

La dificultad "veterano" será el nivel de dificultad "normal" en esta última entrega de la trilogía

BioWare ha confirmado que el nivel de dificultad de Mass Effect 3 se ha visto incrementado respecto a las dos entregas previas, con un mayor nivel de dureza para los enemigos que nos invitará en más de una ocasión a disfrutar de la partida a través del modo cooperativo para facilitar algo las cosas.

“El nivel de dificultad Veterano de Mass Effect 1 y 2 estará a la par que la dificultad Normal en Mass Effect 3”, han declarado desde BioWare. Así, todo parece indicar que más de un usuario recurrirá al novedoso Galaxy at War (el cooperativo) para afrontar estos desafíos con mayores garantías de éxito, pudiendo así obtener una mejor puntuación al final de la partida que traerá consigo el mejor final posible para esta épica trilogía de ciencia ficción.

Además, si nos quedamos bloqueados en un punto concreto de la partida podemos disputar un par de encuentros cooperativos, obtener más nivel y mejores objetos para equipar a nuestros personajes, y seguir el juego justo por donde lo dejamos… pero mejor preparados. Aun así, BioWare recuerda que este cooperativo tiene un carácter opcional dentro de la partida, por lo que no será obligatorio recurrir a él para terminar por completo el juego.

Games of 2012: Tomb Raider

Drawing inspiration from James Bond and Batman as it treads the dark path to reinvention..

Tomb Raider is a gaming institution. First released back in 1996, this new game represents the tenth outing for Lara Croft, who returns with 35 million lifetime sales behind her.

However, Tomb Raider is also (somewhat poetically) a relic - a series in desperate need of revival. The unrealistically curvy first-lady of gaming has become something of a joke in popular culture; intrinsic to the stereotype of gamers as bedroom dwelling nerds

with unrealistic ideals for what women should be. While new developer Crystal Dynamics have made her a more relevant action heroine, even their last Tomb Raider game, 2008's Underword, feels as if it belongs to a past generation, the basic formula having changed little since 1996. And there's Uncharted...

Naughty Dog and Nathan Drake have flamboyantly stolen the Tomb Raider template for adventure. Something had to change, and with this new - simply named reboot - it has. Rather than trying to out-Uncharted Drake, Crystal are treading a darker path.

This isn't about ostentatious, Indiana Jones-style adventuring: it's a gritty origins story that batters the young Lara Croft into the action icon the world is familiar with. "We took over Tomb Raider back in 2003 and our first game - Legend - was always part of a trilogy along with Anniversary and Underworld," says Crystal Dynamics brand director, Karl Stewart, speaking exclusively to PSM3.
"About half way through we decided that we wanted to put our own stamp on the franchise, to make it relevant again."

RAIDER REVELATIONS

Lara is no longer a twinkle-toed princess, stealing priceless statues like a one-woman British Empire - she's human, vulnerable. It's this idea of the 'breakable' lead character that makes Tomb Raider so compelling, so unlike any other game of 2012.

"You never really knew Lara before: you understand that she's this beautiful looking girl with rich parents and cool pair of guns, and that she could pay to do whatever she wanted, says Stewart. "However, our research showed that the fact she could pay to do anything never felt very realistic - people couldn't relate to it - so we created a girl who isn't in that situation. She wants to be a member of the crew, she wants to be part of the team, and she's just going on her first adventure.

"It's what they did with James Bond in Casino Royale - we saw him with feelings like revenge and jealousy, and that let people see the character in a new light. And that's what we're looking to do with Tomb Raider - we want people to really feel the emotional connection."

Most action games teach us that we're unstoppable. We can hide behind cover to heal bullet-wounds, we can strap our bodies with health-packs to salve stabbings. There is no penalty for taking an axe to the shoulder - we're able to retaliate with the strength and ferocity of a fighting fit warrior, fresh as the day we were deployed. Tomb Raider turns that assumption on its head. Lara is a vulnerable hero. She whimpers while squeezing through tight corridors in unstable, claustrophobic cave-systems. She mutters to herself about staying alive as her torch is extinguished by a rush of water, or a blast of air.

When she rips an arrow or a piece of rock from her body - injuries she quite realistically sustains throughout the game - you feel her pain as the offending item tears her skin and she screams. As Stewart explains: "You're not going to take a 20ft jump off a cliff, because injury will play a big part in the game's realism. When Lara is injured you won't be able to climb as freely".

And although you're sitting in front of a screen, pad in hand, you still feel genuine concern for Lara. In the back of your mind, you know you can restart from the last save point if she's crushed by a tumbling boulder, but the threat of demise is acute when you're so closely, painfully connected with your on-screen character

LICENSE TO CROFT

That's not to say all traces of the original Tomb Raider are gone. "We took inspiration of course from the new Batman, but also from the new James Bond," explains Stewart. "Those are two stories that are new, but have very firm pillars - we know who Bruce Wayne is, we know what he's about for example. If you look at James Bond, you know he's a British agent and that he has a license to kill, but if you look at the different time periods of Bond: they always delivered something exciting, and something you look forward to going to the movies to watch. But you can't give those older Bonds to today's audiences".

In contrast, Tomb Raider 2012 is very, very relevant. "Bond used to be this guy who travelled to exotic places and saw the world - but anyone can do that now by hopping on a Rynair flight for less than £100. Just having a movie set in the Algarve just doesn't seem that exotic any more.

"So what they did was they made it more of an emotional, more visceral experience and allowed you to get close to the character. That's how we've approached Tomb Raider. It's not about how big we can make an explosion, it's about how close we can get the player to a character, and how closely they can take the journey with them".

While we've seen Lara struggling to survive during the E3 2011 demo, we've also been given a taste of how she'll navigate the mysterious island she's shipwrecked on. She moves much like Nathan Drake, and the camera tracks her dynamically as she leaps and climbs, heightening the scale of bigger scenes and emphasising the claustrophobia of tighter areas.

With the emphasis on making Lara feel like a real, believable character the animations need to be spot on - and they are. She moves like a realistic object within the world - again like the Nathan Drake of Uncharted 3 - tripping over rocks that jut out of the ground, pushing her body through tight spaces, leaning against objects as she struggles to regain her breath.

So far, we've seen her interact with elements like fire and water (she can light torches, and in turn set things on fire, but conversely water will extinguish any flames she creates), but haven't yet found out how she'll cope with things like extreme cold, or cloying vegetation and extreme darkness - all of which are prevalent on the island she's stranded on.

DREAD ISLAND

How will you explore that island? It's a balancing job for Crystal Dynamics. While the E3 demo was very scripted and QTE heavy, it isn't very representative of the action as a whole. "We wanted to be able to give the player the freedom to move around and really be the treasure hunter and explorer," says Stewart. "But at the same time we want to be able to tell players to go from point A to B and tell them a really rich story; really immerse them in the world.

"So we've built these hub areas, which are connected across the whole island. When you first arrive in an area you'll need to go from point A to B to get through the story objective, but once you've cleared the area you'll be able to fast-travel back to it and really explore it to find new things and unlock new parts of the game." Oddly, the closest comparison is Lego Harry Potter; its plastic Hogwarts - simply a series of environments linked by loading screens - are stuffed with secrets and fresh areas that are opened up as players learn new spells and hit specific objectives. So it is with Tomb Raider.

That's not to say you'll have a huge, Skyrim-like inventory. This is a survival game after all. "The idea is for us to keep Lara's tool-set fairly limited," says Stewart. "At the same time we want the player to feel as if they've got the tools for success in their hands. A great example is the climbing axe. In the early stages it helps Lara to traverse the environment, but over time she's going to have to use it in different ways; so she'll use it in combat or to prise open new areas, for example. And that's the same for most of the tools in the game - we don't want them to just do one thing, they need to do five or six."

The island isn't all gloom and doom, as screens suggest. "The island is a varied place - it's a character in itself", reveals Karl. "You're going to visit the beach, it's going to be night-time, you're going to have different experiences." Combat is also under wraps - for now. "We've moved away from the 'lock-on' targeting to something unique that fits in with the world. We're cautious about talking combat without showing it."

It's a much-needed refresh for a legendary series fast losing its relevance. If Crystal can pull it off, this'll not only be one of the best reboots of this generation, but one of the bravest, most progressive games of 2012.

This week on 'Best Of Indie Games', we take a look at some of the top independent PC Flash/downloadable titles released over this last week.

The goodies in this edition include an iOS game inspired by Nintendo's cult RPG EarthBound, a horizontally scrolling shooter in the vein of Konami's Gradius series, a puzzle game about a robot that can't think, plus the alpha release of the Mojang-published 2D action platformer Cobalt.

Here's some recent highlights from the site:

Game Pick: 'Four Winds Fantasy DX' (QUIMDUNG, commercial indie)
"Inspired in part by Nintendo's cult RPG EarthBound, Four Winds Fantasy is an adventure game in which players control a father searching for his son in a world overrun by marauding, sentient plant life."

"Originally released for iOS platforms in August of this year, Dragon Fantasy features all the familiar trappings of an 8-bit RPG. If you fondly recall the tile-based exploration and first-person battles of the Dragon Quest series, you're going to find a lot to like here."

Game Pick: 'Satazius' (Astro Port, commercial indie)
"Satazius is a solid horizontally scrolling shooter in the vein of Konami's Gradius series, featuring an array of upgradable weaponry and a number of tough boss battles."

Game Pick: 'FlirtOff' (Radstronomical, browser)
"Duplicator developer Z3lf creates another fun distraction of the puzzle platformer nature with Robots Can't Think. While the robot can't think, it can jump, climb walls and ceilings, time warp, and translocate."

Game Pick: 'Cobalt' (Oxeye Game Studio, commercial indie)
"Following the footsteps of Mojang's Minecraft, Cobalt's pre-order is cheaper than the future final release. The pre-order grants access to the current and all future builds of Cobalt up until and including the full release of the game."

Una de las sagas más populares de vídeojuegos para las consolas de sobremesa y portátiles de la gigante nipona Nintendo es sin duda alguna Mario Party, la cual nació hace más de diez años para la consola Nintendo 64, como una serie de juegos espectaculares para jugar entre amigos, enfrentándose en un tablero por ser el vencedor de la partida, siendo necesario superar cientos de retos diferentes en mini juegos.
Pues se acerca la llegada de una nueva entrega de esta serie, que sería el noveno título de la saga, y el día de

hoy Nintendo ha revelado la portada o carátula de Mario

Party 9 para Wii.

Este juego llegará al mercado europeo el día 11 de marzo próximo, al igual que para el mercado norteamericano. En esta portada podemos ver a casi todos los reconocidos personajes de juego, y comienza así la emoción de los fanáticos y ganas de hacerse con el nuevo títulos de uno de los mejores juegos para varias personas que ha existido. Algo bastante curioso es que no vemos a todos los personajes en la carátula.

Want to Play Skyrim on a Tablet? There’s an App for That

We demo remoting into your PC via a Tegra-powered tablet using Splashtop THD, for the first time. We're able to play Skyrim from a PC via the tablet.

This past week at CES, Nvidia and ASUS teamed up to show off The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim running on ASUS' latest and greatest tablet - the Transformer Prime.

How'd they do it? There's an app for that. An app called Splashtop THD. Splashtop THD is the new and improved (but not yet available) version of Splashtop, the award winning app that is already available for Android and iOS devices. What Splashtop allows you to do is stream content from your PC to your tablet. You can do this wirelessly, or via an ethernet cable.

Watch below as Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang and old school pro gamer Fatal1ty do some schtick and show off Splashtop THD and Skyrim on the new Transformer Prime.
Once the app is installed and Splashtop finds your network, your PC compresses and streams the visuals to your tablet, and your tablet then streams your inputs to your PC. I asked Nvidia exactly how that all works and I swear they said, "Automagically."

Anyhow, what you get in the end is a very lovely 720p experience on your 10 inch screen. Better yet, you will suffer no frame rate loss, and only have a minimal amount of delay. (Less than 15ms most of the time)
Nothing else is compromised, and what you get is practically a 1:1 gaming experience on your tablet. Nice.
However, there's obviously a catch. A few in fact.

Exactly what do you need in order to make this happen?

1) A high end PC with an Nvidia GPU - I asked Nvidia what would happen if I tried to re-create this demo with an AMD Radeon 6750... they laughed.

2) A high end tablet powered by Nvidia's Tegra 3 processor - I asked Nvidia what would happen if I tried to re-create this demo on a Samsung Galaxy Tab... they laughed.

3) A very fast and reliable network connection - You know, that "good" internet your friends are always talking about

So, if you meet the qualifications above, then congratulations, you're ready to experience the wonders of high end PC gaming on your tablet!

Sure, one could argue the practicality of an application like this, and Skyrim certainly isn't the most practical game to be playing on a tablet, but it's certainly hard to argue how cool this sort of technology will be once it's much more affordable.

Sigo  la trayectoria de las nuevas consolas portátiles (la Nintendo 3DS y la  Playstation Vita) con especial interés. La intuición me dice que esta  generación sufrirá un revés por el avance de la telefonía móvil, que  para muchos se está convirtiendo en el dispositivo de juego móvil  preferido.

Mi problema es que por ahora la realidad se empeña en  corregirme. Más o menos. Contra todos mis pronósticos a las portátiles  no les ha ido tan mal como yo pensaba en esta campaña navideña. Nintendo ha superado la barrera de cuatro millones de consolas 3DS en Japón gracias al lanzamiento de Mario Kart 7 y Super Mario 3D Land. En total, Nintendo podría haber vendido unos 13,5 millones de 3DS en 2011, menos de los 16 millones que pronosticaba inicialmente pero en absoluto una mala cifra.

La  situación de Sony con la Playstation Vita es más complicada de evaluar  porque por ahora sólo está a la venta en Japón y tiene poco recorrido.  Empezó con fuerza, como suele suceder en el mundo del videojuego,  durante su primera semana. Sony vendió 370.000 unidades y agotó el  stock. La segunda semana, sin embargo, sufrió un revés importante  (70.000 unidades vendidas) que han llevado a Forbes a aconsejar al fabricante una bajada de precio. Algo parecido a lo que tuvo que hacer Nintendo con la 3DS en su momento.

No  dudo que para muchos jugadores una consola portátil siga teniendo  ventajas frente al móvil, pero mi punto de vista es que el mayor mercado  que ofrece la telefonía y la dinámica de las tiendas de aplicaciones  van a cambiar el interés de los desarrolladores.

El catálogo será cada  vez más atractivo en Android e iOS y las consolas portátiles se  mantendrán sólo gracias al poyo de los grandes estudios y las grandes  sagas de videojuego (Mario, Zelda, etc..) y con un público más  especializado. Si las ventas no acompañan muchos incluso empezarán a  plantearse el móvil como una plataforma alternativa con la que  complementar los beneficios. Cuando lo hagan empezarán a desarrollar  para el móvil y realizar adaptaciones para consola, en lugar de seguir  el sistema inverso. El móvil, además, está avanzando a mayor velocidad  en potencia gráfica y de proceso. Las consoals son plataformas estables,  creadas para ciclos de vida de varios años pero los slatos en telefonía  móvil se producen cada 12 o 18 meses. Y son grandes.

No hay nada que sea brillante o único en este razonamiento, muchos han llegado antes a la misma conclusión.  Incluso nintendo y Sony están maniobrando para tratar de capturar parte  de este mercado, con tiendas de juegos propias para títulos más  casuales o contenido adicional (nuevos niveles y misiones) para  descarga. Pero la lentitud y la poca decisión que están poniendo en la  transición del viejo modelo al nuevo, creo, les va a pasar factura

Nuevo parche de ‘The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’ para PlayStation 3

Hablar de ‘The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’ es hablar de cosas como calidad, grandeza, aventura, rol y de horas interminables de juego, pero también es hablar de errores ya que el título de Bethesda, aunque haya sido coronado con el galardón de “Juego del año” si que también ha traído de cabeza a muchos usuarios debido a ciertos errores aparecidos en las plataformas donde ha salido, sucediendo algunas incidencias en la versión de PC, otras incidencias distintas en la versión de Xbox 360, y la que peor parada a salido es la versión de PlayStation 3.

El error ocurrido era un error en la gestión de la memoria interna de la consola y el autoguardado durante la partida, un error del que no se sabía nada y tampoco el modo de abordarlo por parte de los programadores, los cuales dieron unas soluciones en formas de rutinas y consejos para así evitar este problema, pero sin dar solución al problema real, hasta ahora. Bethesda ha anunciado que el parche que termina con el error de la versión de PlayStation 3 de ‘The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’ está terminado y se lanzará en este mes.

La actualización en concreto es la 1.4, con la cual se espera que el error de gestión de las partidas en PlayStation 3 quede corregido. Esto se ha sabido mediante la red social Twitter, desde la cual un usuario preguntaba sobre la solución al problema de PlayStation 3, a lo que Bethesda ha contestado con el siguiente mensaje:

“Lo solucionaremos en la actualización 1.4 planeada para este mes”.

Una buena noticia sin duda para todos los usuarios afectados, que pronto podrán disfrutar plenamente de ‘The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’ en PlayStation 3, estaremos atentos a las novedades que puedan ocurrir

Análisis: Sonic Generations (Nintendo 3DS)

Sonic ha dado muchas alegrías en la casa de Sega. Un personaje creado para disputar el trono de las plataformas a Mario y establecer una imagen de marca entre Sega/Sonic y los diferentes sistemas de la compañía. Un punto que puede verse como una obviedad en pleno 2012, pero antiguamente la masa no estaba tan informada y comprar una u otra máquina podía depender de esto (máxime cuando nuestros padres compraban sin preguntar primero).

Hace unas semanas analizábamos la versión de sobremesa de Sonic Generations, ahora le toca el turno a la pequeña de la casa para 3DS. Una alternativa diferente y compatible con la anterior. La tenencia de una no exime la compra de la otra. Si son tan amables…

Sonic se hace mayor

Apartado técnico

Los sistemas portátiles juegan en una liga diferente y por tanto deben criticarse desde un prisma modificado, en argot se debe cambiar el chip al jugar con estos equipos. Nosotros mismos somos más permisivos con algunos puntos que no pasaríamos por alto en una máquina de sobremesa.

Hablando de la parte técnica, Sonic Generations está lejos de los estandartes gráficos de la consola, pero con todo se defiende. Correcto detallado de los escenarios, texturas pobres en muchos elementos e incómodos dientes de sierra que desmerecen el acabado final. La paleta de colores utilizada guarda poco las formas por que no encaja en según que entornos y además luce muy apagada en determinados segmentos. Sospecho que la incorporación del modo 3D ha obligado a recudir la calidad gráfica para asegurar un framerate estable.

El juego se mueve con soltura en casi todas las tesituras, excepto cuando la carga es elevada, lo cual se traslada al movimiento del erizo (dentro de la velocidad esta se reduce mínimamente). No afecta a la jugabilidad. Sonic está bien animado y perfilado. Sin tacha en esa parte.

Elegante modo 3D el que nos trae Sega en este Sonic Generations. Se ha diseñado de forma inteligente al lograr cierta profundidad en los elementos principales sin abusar del mismo. Un acierto por que impide cansar en demasía la vista por la combinación de la velocidad del juego y el entorno tridimensional. Falla en la dotación de volumen en elementos de gran tamaño (jefes) y produce que pasen algo desapercibidos. Al activarlo el rendimiento del juego se reduce de forma casi inapreciable.

Jugabilidad

Sonic se encontrará consigo mismo en una aventura que nos invitará a jugar con las dos vertientes del erizo: Moderno y antiguo. En la práctica no difieren en demasía. En el modo historia tendremos que avanzar superando cada de una de las fases que nos encontramos. Cada nivel contará con dos versiones, una para tipo de Sonic. Una vez superadas se desbloqueará una misión especial ligada a esa fase en particular.
Continuaremos hasta llegar a los jefes. Enemigos de final de fase con un diseño (la forma de jugarlos y superarlos) más atinado que en la versión de sobremesa (su gran punto negro). Superarlos no os costará demasiado, pero se disfruta el intentarlo.

El desequilibrio se produce en los niveles normales debido a los errores de diseño. Sonic es velocidad y para ello deben construirse entornos que faciliten esa habilidad. Por desgracia nos encontramos con trabas en los escenarios que frenan nuestro avance. Me refiero a elementos que no logramos anticipar y que rompen la jugabilidad. Haciendo necesario a través de un método de ensayo/error aprendernos esas partes para poder continuar con garantías. Un aspecto del que se abusa en los niveles del Sonic Moderno. Sinceramente creo que este detalle repercute en la propia rejugabilidad de las fases, por que no invita a repetirlas.

En un juego con este espíritu los cortes deberían añadirse a través de elementos salvables con habilidad y que seamos capaces de intuir. Encontrarse las cosas de frente sin ofrecer posibilidad alguna de modificar nuestra trayectoria destruye la diversión. El núcleo del error se encuentra en la visión limitada que tenemos del entorno, en la versión de sobremesa observamos una mayor cantidad de mapeado, aquí por razones técnicas se nos priva de ello. Matizo que las fases del Sonic Moderno se han realizado en base a las que aparecieron en Sonic Rush.

De forma directa el juego es corto (sobre 4 horas para completar el modo historia), la gracia se encuentra en repetir los niveles para mejorar nuestra puntuación y hallar todos los secretos. Contamos con un modo contrarreloj, un versus que nos permitirá desafiar a un amigo (por red o local) y un entretenido modo misiones. En este último la finalidad será la de completar diferentes niveles bajo unos parámetros determinados. Todo ayuda a aumentar la vida útil del cartucho.

Sonido

En este aspecto Sega nunca falla si se trata de Sonic. La BSO es fantástica, con una selección de temas trabajada, variada y que ambienta con tino nuestro supersónico paso por las fases. Quizá sobre algún tema, pero esto es más una apreciación personal que una crítica al uso y más tratándose de un apartado tan personal. Doblado al español (aunque no hay mucho que doblar) y subtitulado a nuestro idioma.

Conclusión

Sega ha apostado sobre seguro con esta versión. Las fases del Sonic antiguo recuerdan a las que teníamos en Sonic 1 (aunque se han tomado ciertas libertades) y los niveles del Sonic Moderno que tan poco convencen a mucha gente se ha construido siguiendo los parámetros de Sonic Rush. El acabado técnico convence y el modo 3D merece utilizarse.

Por contra, el diseño de niveles es muy deficitario en la mayoría de entornos. Rompe el desarrollo, limita al jugador y rebaja la diversión. Un aspecto inadmisible en un plataformas portátil donde se busca entretenimiento directo y sin fisuras. Tampoco ayuda la mala implementación del auto-apuntado y ciertas mecánicas aburridas y toscas.

Recomendable para fans del erizo y para todos aquellos que odian las fases del Sonic Moderno de sobremesa. En este juego el tratamiento es diferente.

Why We Play–Sexual Intrigue in Batman: Arkham City

Admit it. You couldn’t stop staring at Talia’s ass in the latest and greatest Batman title Arkham City. I know I couldn’t. I had to pause the game to do a double take on it. And after staring at Batman’s ass most of the game, I’m glad the guys over at Rocksteady gave us short respites of high-energy estrogen action to take our minds off of the immense sausage fest that was Arkham Asylum. Without Catwoman, Harley, Talia, or Ivy, Arkham City would’ve been the largest homoerotic gang bang ever depicted in the history of gaming. I mean, it’s a cold day in hell when ole’ Brucie isn’t completely surrounded by sweaty men on all sides vying to just see what’s under all that rubber. And in a world where a large majority of the gaming community play titles completely bereft of any female characters *cough* Call of Duty, Arkham Asylum was a delicacy.

Suddenly I've lost the will to think.

Catwoman – “The Switch”

Like Two-Face, there are two sides to every coin, and Miss Kyle is no exception to that rule. She’s a multifaceted woman who can be incredibly charming in a submissive manner, and undeniably intimidating in others. Catwoman’s appeal in Arkham City not only comes from her looks alone, she’s hetero-flexible about as much as she is physically flexible. Men love her. Women want to be her. (Maybe some men will want to be her too!) Both will find her sex appeal to be mouth-watering. In a BDSM sense, Selina is just as much of a top as she is a bottom. She’s both a domme and a sub. This is why Catwoman is a “switch,” and also why we all find her so irresistible.

Star-crossed Lovers.

Talia al-Ghul – “The Femme Fatale”

While Catwoman could also be categorized under the “Femme Fatale,” in terms of Arkham City, Daddy’s girl, Talia al-Ghul really stood out as the most apparent candidate for it. Villainess in one hand, anti-heroine in the other, Talia is perhaps the most magnetic female character in AC. As a player I absolutely felt the sexual tension between Bruce and Talia, and it’s obvious that they had something going on at some point within the continuity of the Batman universe. Exactly what, however, is left up to our imaginations. What I do know is that Batman’s hormones were totally racing merely upon the sight of Talia, and Arkham City does a magnificent job in illustrating this to us. Bruce’s love for Talia is a conflict of interest. He’s a superhero. And she’s a daughter to a mass-murdering fuckhead. Like any respectable “Femme Fatale” Talia is hypnotic, deadly, sexually electric, and a lying bitch who does at least one good deed to help Bruce along the way in Arkham City.

Nobody stands between Harley and her man.

Harley Quinn-“The Crazy Bitch”

In terms of BDSM power dynamics, Harley Quinn is totally a bottom. A power bottom. But still a bottom. Totally gaga for The Joker, it’s clear that she’s the kind of lady who gets off to being told what to do, at any cost. With a misleading and whimsical exterior Harley is perhaps one of the most tragic characters in Arkham City. It’s clear that even in instances of domestic abuse, betrayal, and down right cruelty on the Joker’s part she would still come back again and again to her man because she loves him so much. He is her everything. While intelligent in her own right, Quinn’s sexual appeal comes from the fact that she’s been molded to be what her man wanted her to be. And while I don’t necessarily agree with Harley’s unconditional obedience to the Joker, there’s no denying that there are players out there who will find her character type as appealing, than both Talia and Catwoman combined. While Harley Quinn possesses some bi-curious qualities to her, she definitely has a disposition for those with outer plumbing. Especially for those kind of men who just want to see the world burn.

Yes, idiot radicals who aren’t at all familiar with the rich story line of the Batman franchise can say that the ladies of Arkham City are nothing more than vapid bimbos with perfect bodies, but I beg to differ. It’s the ladies of AC that really complete the experience for me, and give me the motivation to go back and do the whole Arkham City thing all over again.

Welcome CastleVille, Zynga’s Up and Coming Social Gaming Experience

You’ve heard of CityVille, FarmVille and FrontierVille (if you haven’t then you’re probably living under a rock), well now there’s CastleVille! Yes folks, you heard us correctly.

Zynga, the evil genius behind CityVille, will soon launch CastleVille; a fresh take on the well known social gaming experience.

Why did we call them evil geniuses?

In January, 2011 CityVille hit 100 million active users; which basically means over a 100 million people were wasting away time at work, school or home playing CityVille. More recently (August, 2011), CityVille’s active user base has dropped to approximately 75 million, and in October, 2011 the user base dropped to about 55 million – which isn’t quite as extensive, but still encompasses A LOT of people.

Zynga is a group of evil geniuses because so many people love the Ville games, and it’s likely that CastleVille will have an equal, if not higher, active user base.

Move Over CityVille, Here Comes CastleVille

CastleVille, if you couldn’t already guess, allows players to build medieval empires ripe with castles, knights and peasants. Players will also be able to craft items, create unique artistry for use in the game and trade openly with other players. This time around, Ville players will be forced to defend their custom kingdoms from invading parties.

CastleVille will incorporate features from other Ville games, while also allowing players a completely fresh and unique experience. Zynga has also expressed the use of new social media and social interaction techniques that have never been seen in a previous Ville game.

Bill Jackson, the director of Zynga Dallas has mentioned that Castle Ville will include the most extensive character creation platform out of any Ville game. Players will be able to completely customize their characters when first starting the game.

CastleVille Game Features

Players will progress by completing story quests, building their personalized castle and kingdom, interacting socially with friends, and meeting new characters that serve as a basis for the main storyline.

Which brings us directly to one of the biggest features of CastleVille, the engrossing story-line. A captivating story with a diverse and intrinsic character abundancy is entirely new to the Ville franchise. Sure, FrontierVille had its loose plot and vague story but Zynga has confirmed that Castle Ville will surpass such limits.

Players will meet and interact with all kinds of characters unique to the medieval universe of CityVille; some of those characters include Tom (a heroic dragon slayer), Duke (an allied King), Yvette (a talented and well endowed songstress), and of course Rafael (a woodcutter who dabbles in capturing lady trophies). Most of the characters are beneficial to the game’s main story and offer one of many advantages to the player such as a new quest, exclusive reward or tutorial on how the game works.

Zynga is also delivering a custom fantasy and action adventure experience right alongside the expansive story; players will be allowed free reign to choose specific paths their characters will take, places they will explore, or even which characters will become unlocked. Not only will CastleVille be a social building experience like CityVille and YoVille, it will also be a casual role-playing adventure.

The new social features implemented in CastleVille will include the option to visit friend’s kingdoms, trade and/or gift equipment, armor and custom art.

Instead of an experience meter that indicates a player’s level Zynga has implemented a “reputation system” that rewards points for being extra social with other players. The points earned from this reputation system will then be used to progress in the game world and purchase new in-game items. This reputation system will definitely drive players to be more social with one another and will obviously keep the CastleVille world alive.
CastleVille is actually more akin to an MMORPG than most folks realize. The game features heavy social

interaction, an extensive quest line, a main story plot, interesting characters, an in-game trading system and economy and of course plenty of player customization options. If those features don’t sound similar to what can be found in a modern MMORPG, well then… we probably don’t know what an MMORPG is… but we promise, we really, really do know.

CastleVille Game Release Schedule

CastleVille will be integrated with the Facebook platform like Zynga’s other titles and will be available in 17 different languages. The Castle Ville game will of course be completely free to play just like all of Zynga’s other social games, but will likely feature purchasable currency that can be used for further player customization and progression.

Zynga has identified that the CastleVille game will be released sometime between November, 2011 and April, 2012 which isn’t exactly the smallest release window ever given, but it’s a better estimate then never.

Currently Zynga is promoting CastleVille on the official Facebook page by teasing free in-game items which will be unlocked for the community as the page receives “Likes”. If the Castle Ville game page receives over 5 million Facebook “Likes”, Zynga will donate $40K, $30K and $20K respectively to the top three voted charity organizations (Water.org, Direct Relief International, Save the Children). As of the time of this writing, the official CastleVille game Facebook page currently has close to 1 million “Likes” (929,116).

Instead of sitting around waiting for Castle Ville, in the meantime eager players can jump into one of the other Frontier, City and Yo Ville games. It’s interesting to note that FrontierVille is the most recent Ville game released.
