Imagine a friend lends you their brand new car for the entire year. He only asks that you to take good care of it. Now, what if you trashed it, never changed the oil, ignored the check engine light, and returned it dented and dirty? How would your friend feel? Scripture tells us that everything belongs to God. Therefore, all we have—our time, talents, money, possessions, and even our very lives—belongs to Him. The question we must ask ourselves is: Are we managing God’s resources well, or are we careless with what He has entrusted to us?

Check out this week’s message as we explore what Scripture has to say about God’s ownership and our stewardship.

What if the things we treasure most are the things that weigh us down the most? We spend our lives chasing bigger, better, and more. We want larger bank accounts, nicer homes, and greater success—but in the end, do they really satisfy? Jesus gives us a warning in Matthew 6:19-21, that earthly treasures will fade, rust, and possibly be stolen. But He also tells us that there is a treasure that lasts forever!

There are times in life when it becomes clear to everyone looking in that we have lost our focus on what is truly important. We get so focused on what we want and what we are afraid of that all we can do is complain. We don’t care who we are complaining to or sometimes even what we are complaining about. Soon we begin to embellish everything to make it sound worse and at some point, we even believe it. When we do this, we miss the opportunity to see what God is doing and to become a part of it.

Check out this week’s message to see how this is beginning to plague (no pun intended) the Israelites in the wilderness.

The book of Exodus picks up where Genesis left off. In it, we see the greatness, the power, and the majesty of God, as well as His holiness, faithfulness, and love. The Exodus is a remarkable story of deliverance and redemption, and not just for the Jews, but for us as well, for Exodus points to a greater Savior than Moses and a greater deliverance than from Egypt – Freedom from the bondage of sin!

One of the central acts of worship is hearing the Word of God preached. John Calvin said, “Wherever we see the Word of God purely preached and heard, there a church of God exists, even if it swarms with many faults.” Of course, the opposite is true as well.
What is church, and why is it important? Who can belong? Do we need to gather physically or in a virtual world? Should I formally join a church? Why do we listen to a 45-minute monologue each week? How do we love those inside and outside the church? What is church discipline, and why should we exercise it? Who gets to lead?

We will begin exploring these questions this week as we start a new sermon series, Rediscover Church.

A person’s character is not forged in adversity, so much as it is revealed in adversity. As Alistair Begg writes in his book, Brave by Faith, “what we are in our early years, we will be in our later years. If you think you’re going to be something at 80 that you’re not now, then you’d better start playing catch up. Don’t assume that you can be half-hearted now and then somehow make a big push later on.”

God’s promise in Isaiah is that He would come to dwell with His people and rescue them. This is fulfilled in the birth of Jesus Christ, who is known as Immanuel, God with us. Jesus made a great sacrifice, giving up the splendors of heaven to come to earth. But He did more than just live among us. Because of His great love, He provided a way for us to have eternal life.
