On Friday, Year 3 went to the stunning Kew Botanic Gardens. It was so exciting to go on our first trip outside of school since COVID began! The children managed to epxlore Palm and Temperate House, The Hive, The Pagoda and much more! Although The Treetop Walk was shut, we still had lots of fun exploring the beautiful gardens! During our workshop on pollination and fertilisation, the children searched for different types of bees. Some of us even found the rare red-tailed bee. The teachers running these workshops commented on how impeccable the children's behaviour was. We are ever so proud of our Year 3's! Here are a few photos to show some of the fun we had on the day:

This afternoon, Year 3 had such an amazing time exploring different types of puppets including, sock, hand, finger, marionnette and much more. Tony, the puppeteer, gave children some background information about the history of puppets, especially focussing on Punch and Judy. We then finished with a spectacular show which I am sure you have heard a great deal about already. Take a look at just some of the photos to show how much fun we had! What an amazing year it has been! Although it has been cut short, you have been nothing but inspirational year 3! From our tea party, to swimming, to the puppet show, to Iron Age Day and Butser Farm, we have had nothing but fun from the very beginning. We have achieved so much along the way so well done! The work you have been sending in has been spectacular and of such high quality. It really has made every single one of us unbelievably proud of everything you have done.

It looks like summer is returning with the hot weather once more. Enjoy a well deserved break and I am sure we will see you at some point in September. Have a lovely break!

Summer Holiday Challenge - Trek to Tokyo

Hello everyone,

To commemorate the Tokyo 2020 Olympics which are no longer taking place this Summer, the Hampshire School Games Organisers (SGOs) are challenging you to Trek to Tokyo!

This is a 6-week challenge for the summer holidays, asking you to complete daily physical activities and creative challenges throughout each week. Earn miles for each activity you take part in and record your daily miles on the chart as you trek your way across the globe to Tokyo.

Every week there’ll be a new booklet for you to download from the Energise Me website - https://www.energiseme.org/schools/hampshire-school-games/hampshire-school-games-trek-to-tokyo/ containing different challenges for you to try and have a go at – you can even get your family and friends involved too.

So, how far is it to Tokyo? It’s 5,991 miles from Hampshire to Tokyo! That means you need to travel 1,000 miles a week to reach Tokyo by the end of the summer.

I cannot believe we only have 1 week left. However, I think we all deserve the summer holidays! Fingers crossed the sunshine stays so we can enjoy the rays.

With only 2 more weeks to go, we have been blown away by the amount of amazing work that has been sent in once again. Your mystery stories in particular have been a pleasure to read so well done! A special mention this week goes out to Abhinav for his amazing recreation of Paul Gaugin's art work. The key worker children were so inspired by his use of colour, that they then produced their own masterpieces!

We hope everyone is keeping safe and you are looking forward to new beginnings in Year 4. Hopefully everyone has found out their new teachers now. If not, then look on the website and check parent mail. You will have a familiar face with Mrs Jones moving up with you! Hello again,

This week, the weather has been very changeable! We hope you have managed to get outside and have not been caught in the downpours! It has been lovely talking to some of you on the telephone and hearing about your activities and learning at home. Only two more weeks till the holidays!

Thank you to the children who sent in their pictures this week. Here are a selection of them. We have been very impressed with your creativity and crafting!

You will now know who your teacher will be in year 6. We are sure you are all feeling very excited – and a little nervous maybe! Today, you will receive a message that will allow you to access a recorded message from your new teacher via the school website. We hope you enjoy watching them.

We come to the end of another amazing week. Not only have we had some superb work being sent in, we have had other photos showing the wonderful things you are doing at home! From horse riding, to making cakes and constructing revolting sandwiches, it looks like you have been having fun on top of the home learning you have been doing. Leighton, in 3J, has been busy learning about different countries from around the world. This week, he has been learning all about Japan and even making origami which isn't an easy thing to do. Well done Leighton!

We hope you have all had a lovely week and managed to enjoy the beautiful sunshine. We have been trying to keep cool in school despite the scorching temperatures.

Hello everyone,

Another week has passed and there are only three more weeks of term left. It has been a week of beautiful weather and we hope you have been able to get outside to enjoy it.

The children attending the key worker provision in school have been working hard as you can see below.

At home, you have also been busy. We have really enjoyed seeing the results of your creativity and hard work. There have been some wonderful art works created using natural resources.

We have also received some fabulous newspaper reports and topic work. Well done and thank you to Anouk, Liam, Chloe, Sebby, Megan, Etrat, Lilith, Dominic and William for sending in their photographs.

This has been our last week of Treasure Island. We hope you have enjoyed the story. We are really looking forward to reading your alternate endings to the story and seeing what else you have been up to. Hello everybody,

Well, we are now only 4 weeks away from the end of the school year. It’s hard to believe! We hope you and your families are well. It has been lovely to speak to some of you this week and to hear what you have been doing during the lockdown. If we have not yet been in contact, we will be in the next week or so.

We are getting a little bored of not competing in PE, so this week we will be taking on some local schools at some daily challenges. The senior school PE department would like to invite all families and pupil to get involved from both the junior and senior sites.

Year 6 Class Photo Collage

We Need Your Photos!

Since your journey through year 6 has ended up taking a slightly different path to previous year groups, we realise that the end of your junior school experience will not quite be the same. However, we won’t be letting you go without making a fuss!

At school, we have been planning ways that we can celebrate the end of your primary schooling whether you are at home or in school! The first of these is going to be a class photo collage!

As we are not able to have our usual end of year class photos, we would like each of you to send in a photo of yourselves that us teachers will then use to create a class photo collage. These will then be printed out on photo paper and handed out at the end of the school year. For those children who are learning at home, you will be told nearer the time of a slot where you are able to come and collect this along with any other items you have left behind.

Your photo can be either horizontal or vertical but we would prefer it to just be a head shot (it could even be a selfie!).

Underneath each photo we would like to include each child’s name. If you would prefer your child’s name not to be included on the collage please state this in the email when you send your photo in.

So whether you are home learning or at school, get snapping away and send us in your best shot! Anyone who wishes to contribute a photo, they must be emailed in to year6@Alderwood.hants.sch.uk by Friday the 26^th June. Please make sure the subject of your email is year 6 class photo so we do not miss any in our inbox!

I cannot believe we are nearly half way through June already! As always, you have been amazing this week and we have had some amazing work entries from both key worker provision in school as well as the home learning everyone else has been doing. Remember, you can now access a range of books on Scholastic so don't forget to check this out!

Mr Adolphe, who is head of P.E at the Senior School, is setting daily challenges if you would like to have a go. You can upload your scores but more details will follow on Monday so keep checking out our school Twitter page. You do not need an account for this and we post our updates on our school website.

Hello everyone

Well, the summer term is passing quickly but it remains a very strange time for us all. We hope that you are all keeping well.

We have received some lovely examples of work in from you this week. Thank you Liam, Dominic, Freya, Lilith, William, Anouk, Etrat and Caleb for sending them in.

The children in school for our key-worker provision have also been very busy.

We have heard about some activities that any of you who are sci-fi fans might enjoy! If you have access to Twinkl, they have teamed up with the BBC’s Dr Who team to produce lots of activities related to the show. There are different ones based on Nikola Tesla, Rosa Parks, spiders and more. They look like great fun!

Year 4 Wow Wall Display

What another week it has been of superb home learning! The Year 4 team has received so many photographs and videos of amazing home learning - Thank you! Keep it up Year 4- you are all doing an amazing job and we are all so proud of you all.

Take a look at some of the work created at home this week. We even have a fantastic piano performance of Hakuna Matata!

Those of you in school have been keeping busy and having fun too. We have been thinking about the rules we need to follow to keep safe and happy. Mr Edmunds has also set us the task of naming 60 rainforest animals! So far we have 30. Can you think of any more?

Welcome back Year 3! We hope everyone had a lovely half term and you managed to enjoy the amazing sunshine.
