Brenda O Brien thought she’d gotten her family’s allotment of bad luck when her breast cancer roared back out of remission. But within a year both her younger sister Angel and her older sister Kathleen shared the same devastating news. They too had breast cancer.” As far as statistics go I thought OK, I can contend with it, I can deal with it and they won’t have to deal with it “Brenda O Brien told TODAY gesturing to her siblings. And then it was just horrific to then hear that Angel was diagnosed and then Kathy O Brien told TODAY‘s Amy Robach” That was very hard.”

Breast cancer three sisters lives changed

The women have the same breast cancer gene mutation which increases the exposure of developing the disease. And they have a family history of breast cancer .Their mother survived the disease when they were kids and it claimed the life of their maternal great grandmother. Only 5 to 7 percent of breast cancers are genetic and the actuality that all three sisters developed the disease at the same time makes their story even more extraordinary. Because most breast cancers are not indigenous it’s very uncommon for three sisters to have breast cancer at the same time.

Breast cancer and breast reconstruction

Dr. Seify is committed to helping patients understand that while a breast cancer diagnosis is a devastating experience, breast reconstruction offers hope for many patients. Breast reconstruction over the years continues to offer new techniques that are helping patients to achieve better more natural looking results. Dr Seify uses the combination of his cosmetic surgery expertise combined with the skills necessary to perform reconstructive breast surgery. This combination of skills has allowed him to use some of the latest technology which includes fat transfer and inserting dermis layers which help strengthen the pocket where the implant is placed. For many patients this allows them to not only achieve a more aesthetically pleasing result but also increases the chances that the implant will not bottom out. Dr. Seify and his staff focus on the patient experience and the fact that having survived breast cancer requires a great deal of the patient’s energy and strength. Dr Seify and his staff are committed to exceeding expectations of their patients.

Breast implants are not foreign to most adults. According to an online industry article some parents are skeptical whether an iStore app that allows users to consider what they might appear like with breast implants is acceptable for children, reports the Herald Sun. Such app is accessible to download from the iTunes store, can connect them to a plastic surgeon who specialize in breast implants, and has a qualification rating of plus- which means it is deemed acceptable for anyone over the age of 12. Albeit the actuality that you must be over 18 to have breast implants and plastic surgery exclusive of parental consent has some parents apprehensive. An Australian Family Associate spokesperson spoke out in the Herald Sun article to say that the apps highlighting breast implants were improper for children and need to be blocked from that age range.

Breast Implants Access Blamed on Apple

Breast implants on the I Phone is not something parents expected to see.The attention was on Apple’s rating system in respect to children’s accessibility and not on the intention of the application. The UK Daily Mail reports that the app was created by a US based plastic surgeon who desired to grant women a way to conceive what they would look like with breast implants. Users can upload a candid photograph of themselves and choose from different sizes of breast implants to get an idea of how they would look after undergoing breast augmentation surgery. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery , ASAPS breast augmentation with breast implants surgery was the incomparably most popular surgical procedure performed by plastic surgeons in 2010, with more than 318,000 individuals undergoing the procedure. It was the most common plastic surgery among women between the ages of 19 and 34 but is also common among those between the ages of 35 and 50, and those 18 years old and younger. Patients are advised to when considering procedures like breast augmentation with breast implants to be diligent concerning their research on the procedure as well as their choice of plastic surgeon.

Breast Implants on the I Phone are Not the Same as the Real Thing

Breast Implants were likely to show up on smartphone. With the popularity of iPhone apps it is not surprising that there are plastic surgery apps available. Patients must be sensible and remember that these are more entertainment based then medical. Dr. Seify encourages his patients to seriously consider breast implants information provided directly through his individual consultation with the patient. During the consultation, Dr. Seify has the opportunity to discuss breast lift options, both saline and silicone breast implants, and his specific recommendation for the patient. He is also able to discuss sizing with the patient based on many different factors that can only be professionally assessed in person. Dr. Seify and his staff are pleased to offer consultations with professionalism and confidentiality allowing the patients to express themselves, and make the best decisions for their specific situation. Breast augmentation with breast implants is a serious procedure with several different techniques available to achieve optimal results. An iPhone app is limited at best when it comes to providing proper medical advice and recommendations that patients can count on.

Plastic surgery in this day and age has an abundance of research available for patients who are considering plastic surgery; so, it’s hard to believe we’re still discussing the importance of choosing ASPS board-certified plastic surgeons. Experts assume this exodus to plastic surgery to appreciate another 11.2 percent . This progression is specifically noticeable at a time when a shift in health care spending declined at a near off the record rate as Americans persist to wrestle with unemployment, higher insurance bills, and absence of disposable income.

Plastic Surgery the Deal of The Day

Plastic surgery can only be performed by experienced doctors, Right? So, what exactly does it require for an ER doc to magnify his business to incorporate plastic surgery procedures like liposuction, or for a gynecologist to deal out the plastic suregery procedure, breast augmentation to patients? If you guessed years of classes’ preparation and certifications you’d be erroneous. Despite the complexities and complications parallel with these plastic surgery procedures it is shockingly affable to break into the marketplace. Today there are very few rules. This has led to a lot of doctors offering plastic surgery services they simply aren’t competent to accomplish. Inexperienced doctors are only part of the problem, it has become customary behavior in our society to consider cosmetic plastic surgery in a dangerously frivolous manner. When liposuction is offered on a daily deals site alongside a haircut and a manicure it’s easy to consider why so many take plastic surgery too casually. These misconceptions can further the gamble of serious complications. Plastic surgery has taken a whipping in the media in recent months from the European breast implant scandal to the scary number of plastic surgery gone bad stories. You don‘t have to look too hard to see a connection between untrained professionals performing cosmetic surgery to the number of botched procedures. Surveys reveal that reputable plastic surgeons across the United States are seeing an increase in redo’s for unsatisfied patients.

Plastic Surgery Revisions Go Up When Quality Goes Down

Plastic surgery revisions initially are a unpleasant experience. Dr Seify consults with patients who may be a bit embarrassed initially because of their dissatisfaction with their plastic surgery from a previous surgeon. Dr. Seify helps his patients understand that there is no need to be embarrassed. Often patients are misinformed and believed that their surgeon had the necessary plastic surgery experience and plastic surgerytraining for the procedure they were considering. Dr. Seify is uniquely qualified and has the experience to perform plastic surgery revision procedures for patients who have encountered surgical aesthetic complications from their plastic surgery procedure. Most commonly Dr. Seify performs revision procedures for breast augmentation and blepharoplasty. Patient should understand that while all secondary surgeries have slightly increased risk, it is imperative that patients keep an open mind when consulting with Dr. Seify for revision plastic surgery procedures. Plastic surgery revisions can be complicated and should only be pursued when there is a mutual understanding between Dr. Seify and the patient and realistic expectations have been set and agreed upon.

Although there are absolute confirmed exposure factors for breast cancer it appears as though the disease doesn’t play favorites. According to the online site Café Mom.com while younger diagnoses are almost unheard-of they clearly occur. Take Keisha Scott a woman from Washington D C who was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 39 and underwent a double mastectomy last month. When she was 35 her gynecologist referred her for a baseline breast cancer mammogram screening. But she had been among other things, fearful to get screened having again and again, heard that it was an achy procedure. Fast forward four years later during Breast Cancer Awareness Month , the Jennifer Aniston ,Demi Moore ,Alicia Keys, Lifetime breast cancer film Five aired and Giuliana Rancic was publicly discussing her fight with the disease. Keisha concluded she had to make her appointment to get screened.

Breast Cancer Diagnosis Requires Life Changing Decisions

Breast Cancer were the words Keisha did not want to hear. After being called back for a second screening and biopsy, her doctor cut to the chase delivering the announcement “I’ m sorry my dear you have breast cancer”. Keisha admits that since her clinical diagnosis she’s had good days ,apathetic days, angered day,s and most of all doubtful days. But one thing has remained consistent: Her thinking that had she gotten screened for breast cancer when she was 35 that her aftermath may have been changeable. As a result she is currently appealing to women to get screened for breast cancer and be in contact with their doctors about early detection options.

Breast Cancer Screening Also Recommended for Plastic Surgery Patients

Patients who have had breast augmentation with implants, breast reduction, or breast lift must also consider the importance of breast health. Dr. Seify shares with his patients that breast surgery whether with implants or not ,is a nonfactor when considering the recommendations for breast cancer screening. Although there has been some opposing debate to the recommendation of the American Cancer Society for breast cancer screening, their recommendation remains the standard. Patients are advised to perform monthly self-breast exams as well as annual mammograms beginning at age 40. For patients who have a family history of breast cancer their primary care physician may recommend beginning mammograms earlier. Patients should be mindful of informing their primary care physician that they have had breast surgery. Dr. Seify will inform patients when their breast surgery has healed and they are able to proceed with mammogram screening.

Plastic surgery, depression, and obesity the top three topics in the media on an almost daily basis. As a new weight loss drug, Qnexa awaits final FDA approval, the population is hopeful that this drug will help what many have termed an obesity epidemic. According to Psychology Today if Qnexa is approved it would precede a very short list of FDA approved diet drugs, as currently the only other approved drug in that classification is Xenical manufactured by Roche. Xenical aids weight loss by preventing fat absorption from the gastric tract .The somewhat abhorrent side effects that develop when high fat foods are not absorbed into the body have prevented the drug from being widely adapted. Moreover Xenical has no continuous influence on food intake such as removing craving or increasing satiety. Plastic surgery is often chosen by patients who have lost large amounts of weight.

Plastic surgery may follow after diet drug effectively improves moods

Plastic surgery is a likely choice for patients who have successfully lost weight. Phentermine a component of Qnexa has been used by itself as a diet aid. It is distantly parallel to the amphetamine category and suppresses hunger. Although never officially accepted by the FDA as a weight loss drug, it has been prescribed for dieters for years and the internet is brimming with advertisements promoting its influence. Topiramate the other ingredient in relation to Qnexa is used to control epileptic seizures and migraines although it has also been prescribed to help people afflicted from bipolar disorder. When used by people with personality disorders it was found to intensify satiety. Topiramate s cognitive impairment side effect was an oft noted conceivably possible problem, but combining it with the stimulant phentermine may counteract that unpleasant side effect.

Plastic Surgery Should Only be Considered After Health Has Been Accessed.

Plastic surgery with Dr. Seify will require every new patient to submit a complete medical health information form. This allows him to assess the patient’s medical history including history of depression as well as obesity concerns. Patients should be forthcoming and include any and all medications including prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Patients who have had last surgery procedures including body contouring procedures like liposuction or abdominoplasty as well as breast augmentation should be conscious of the importance of maintaining a stable and healthy weight. It should be noted that weight gain as small as 10 to 15 pounds can affect the results of a breast augmentation. Patients could find that their breasts are larger than they had originally desired if the weight gain has caused an increase in breast size. Body contouring procedures could look markedly different if the patient gains weight after the procedure. The best advice is for patients to maintain a healthy diet as well as exercise regularly for the best long-term results.

Another one of these decisions could be whether to have surgery on the opposite breast when the breast cancer is only detected in one breast. According to a recent industry article the methodology to surgery on the adverse breast may vary depending on the of breast reconstruction the patient has chosen. For patients with flap breast reconstruction the opposite breast may be operated on during the second stage of surgery when the flap is revised and the nipple areola reconstructed. For patients with expander implant breast reconstruction the opposite breast can be operated on when the expander is exchanged for the final implant or it may require a separate third surgery.

Breast Reconstruction for Better Shaping

Breast reconstruction can be critical to reshaping the breast. Because implants have a tendency to be round in figuration having an implant placed into the opposite breast may impart better proportion. The nipple areola will then be reconstructed at a later time once the final implant and the opposite breast have anchored and healed. All of these are outpatient procedures and generally do not require drains. The surgical time is moderately short and although patients will require several days to heal patients should be able to revive most normal activities within two weeks. It is important to discuss with the doctor what measures of follow up additional breast reconstruction care patients will require. After altering the balancing breast it is imperative to maintain screening for cancer.

Breast Reconstruction in Experienced Hands

Breast Reconstruction is not an exact science and years of experience, guide Dr Seify. Dr Seify is committed to helping patients understand the overall value of breast reconstruction surgery, besides just reconstructing the breast after breast cancer. Helping patients to achieve better symmetry by performing either a breast reduction, breast augmentation, breast lift, or a combination of all three on the opposite breast tissue helps to balance patients breasts and allow greater wardrobe selection. Dr. Seify and his staff help patients obtain the necessary approval through health insurance plans to address the opposite breast at the time of reconstructive surgery if the patient is a candidate. Patients are entitled to insurance coverage at any point that they decide to have additional surgery on the opposite breast. Dr. Seify welcomes patient’s questions concerning the best recommendations following breast reconstruction surgery.

A recent online industry article highlighted promise for a new device that can be utilized by surgeons to examine silicone breast implants and determine if the shell of the silicone breast implant has been compromised. According to the article a new study suggest that compact, surgeon performed high resolution ultrasound may have advantages above magnetic resonance imaging (MRI ) when screening for silicone breast implant failure.

Silicone Breast Implants and MRI Alternatives

Silicone breast implants now have other alternatives for screening. Preliminary results from the study showed that high resolution ultrasound provides advantageous visualization of current fourth, and fifth generation silicone breast implants in scanning models. In addition, in vivo surgeon-performed ultrasound accurately identified implant status and associated with radiologist performed ultrasound MRI and surgical findings. The results of the study, “Surgeon-Performed High-Resolution Ultrasound in the Detection of Silicone Gel Breast Implant Shell Failure: Background, In Vitro Studies, and Early Clinical Results,” appear in the February issue of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal. “Our preliminary findings show that portable, surgeon-performed, high-resolution ultrasound is feasible for screening silicone breast implants, matching the capabilities of MRI in detecting shell failure,” said lead author Bradley Bengtson, MD, FACS, a plastic surgeon in private practice in Grand Rapids, Michigan. “Although we are still working to define the role of this technology in the screening and diagnosis of patients with different silicone gel breast implant styles, there are several obvious benefits over MRI, including convenience, cost, availability, and dynamic, real-time visualization of the implant.”

Silicone Breast Implants Popular Choice Among Patients

Silicone breast implants are among the top sought after surgeries. Dr. Seify informs breast augmentation patients who are receiving new silicone breast implants of the FDA recommendation for MRI screening of silicone breast implants. The industry article highlighting the study of smaller, portable more cost-effective diagnostic screening devices that can screen for compromised silicone gel implants is exciting news for patients. The cost involved for MRI screening is often prohibitive for most patients, so this new device that can be operated by a single physician may prove to be a viable alternative. Many patients today have older implants that are likely to be compromised and have a ruptured shell. Breast implant exchange is offered to patients who are in good health and desire to exchange their breast implants for either new saline or new cohesive gel silicone implants which are a superior product to the original silicone breast implants offered in the past.

Who says you can’t get a new lease on life just by doing a little self-reflection? As we all know it’s often not how we look, but how we feel about ourselves that matters most in day-to-day life. If your 2012 is looking like the perfect time for new beginnings, take some of this time for yourself. Are there parts of your body where you’d love to see an improvement that you just can’t seem to get by following nature’s rules alone? Are you wondering what improvements are possible?

Small Changes, Giant Results

First, plastic surgery isn’t all about high stakes and drastic measures. It’s also not about hating the skin you’re in. Many people are perfectly happy with their appearance, but there’s that one wrinkle that plagues them every time they look in the mirror. Or perhaps you’ve slaved away since last New Year’s Day at the gym only to see that one trouble area persist. Some of the small procedures available today can yield enormous results without breaking your pocket book or forcing you to take time off work. These include:

Botox/Injectable Fillers

Cellulite/Fat Reduction

Skin Peels/Facials

Microdermabrasion

Laser Hair Removal

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser Vein Treatment

These treatments can take years off your age, improve your self-image as you step into your future, or simply get rid of something that’s been annoying you ever since your high school days.

Getting Around Genetics

Genetics also play an enormous role in the structural shape of your body. Oftentimes your trouble spots are entirely out of your control. Adjusting these areas of your body can do wonders for your self-confidence, socializing, and quality of life. As plastic surgery grows in popularity, the possibilities have exploded.

Blepharoplasty is one plastic surgery that may even be covered by your insurance. If your genetics have cursed you with baggy eyelids that obscure your field of vision, you may be eligible to shave off most of the cost to see clearly.

Otoplasty is designed to reduce the size of large ears and help them lie closer to the head.

Breast enhancements and breast lifts are some of the most popular plastic surgeries to date. These procedures can completely change a woman’s figure. If you’ve been yearning for a more feminine shape, this type of surgery can also open up an entirely new world of clothing options.

Gynecomastias can help a man pare down an ample chest and create a more masculine contour.

Aiding the Exercise Regimen

A big part of being the best version of yourself includes making sure that you practice a healthy lifestyle. Exercise and eating right are two non-surgical changes that can often make the most drastic difference. But if the exercise bike and the weights just aren’t cutting it, body sculpting can help take you that one last mile.

Liposuction can remove a stubborn chunk that just won’t budge. Maybe it’s on your thighs or your abdomen, or maybe your upper arms are feeling a little extra cushiony. Oftentimes our bodies store fat in one awkward area. Liposuction can remove fat cells from that specific area and improve your shape permanently.

Abdominoplasty is most popular with mothers. Child-bearing causes your body to undergo enormous changes. This procedure removes stretched out skin, allowing you to regain that pre-child bikini belly. An abdominoplasty is often performed in conjunction with a “Mommy Makeover” where a breast lift, liposuction, and breast augmentation can help you bounce back to your original figure.

Eliminating Insecurities

You don’t have to be shy or naturally self-conscious to be insecure about a part of your body. We all have our own standard of beauty, our own preferences, parts of our bodies that we love, and parts that could use a tweak or two. There’s nothing wrong with self-improvement. We all do it every day with how we work, how we run our lives, and how we manage our relationships. Being the best that we can be doesn’t have to stop at our personality. With today’s advancements, we can extend this to our bodies as well, and take a comprehensive approach to being the best of who we are.

Velashape is a non-invasive, non-surgical body reshaping procedure used for cellulite and circumferential reduction. While the results are similar to those of plastic surgery and other body contouring procedures, Velashape is a painless outpatient procedure requiring no recovery time.

Because of its fast results and the ease of the procedure, Velashape was voted the number one cellulite reduction procedure in 2009, in addition to currently being the most popular body reshaping procedure among celebrities. Velashape is the only FDA-approved non-invasive medical procedure used for body shaping, cellulite reduction, and circumferential reduction in body contouring clinics to date.

The most common treatment areas for Velashape include the buttocks, abdomen, and thighs. Since these areas are commonly affected by pregnancy and are sometimes difficult to isolate in postpartum weight loss, Velashape has been especially popular among moms who wish to return their bodies to pre-pregnancy state.

Velashape is approved for circumferential reduction of the thighs, reducing their size anywhere from one to seven centimeters, depending on the number of treatments. In addition, Velashape is also used to reduce cellulite on the thighs, buttocks, waist, and abdomen.

How Does Velashape Work?

Velashape uses “elos” technology, a combination of bi-polar radiofrequency and infrared light energy. Elos is then further combined with mechanical vacuum massage. The elos technology isolates the targeted area, heating this area only, while specially designed massage rollers smooth out the skin to ensure correct heat energy distribution. The metabolism of the stored energy is increased, promoting better lymphatic drainage and shrinking the size of the fat cells and chambers.

Velashape is often described as feeling similar to a deep tissue massage, so this painless procedure actually feels therapeutic. A pulsed vacuum device is used to prep the skin for treatment by massaging the skin into the prime treatment position. The bi-polar radiofrequency and infrared light energies create a warming sensation on the skin as they isolate the fat cells under the skin’s surface. Each treatment session lasts from 20 minutes to one hour, depending on the size of the area being treated.

Candidates for Velashape include patients with a body mass index under 30 and a cellulite classification level of one or two, in which cellulite appears spontaneously while standing up but not while lying down. Doctors performing the procedure will additionally asses each patient’s overall health before determining whether the procedure will be beneficial.

What is Cellulite?

Fat chambers are made up of rigid fibers. When fat cells are enlarged (when a person gains weight in an isolated area), the rigid fibers push up against the soft skin tissue, causing the rough, “cottage cheese” texture on the skin’s surface. Velashape reduces the appearance of cellulite by heating the fat cells beneath the skin while using the mechanical vacuum massage to smooth out the skin’s surface.

Cellulite is a common condition in women, caused by a combination of risk factors that include heredity, hormones, smoking, poor diet, lack of hydration, and too little exercise. Cellulite is a problem for nearly 80 percent of women today, regardless of their body type, shape, or weight.

The Benefits of Velashape

Velashape is a safe, comfortable, and effective procedure for reducing the circumference of the thighs and cellulite on the thighs, waist, buttocks, and abdomen. The procedure can produce a toned, well-shaped and contoured body in as few as four sessions. One feature that makes Velashape stand apart from other fat reduction procedures is that it is non-surgical and requires no recovery time. Patients can walk out of the clinic directly after the procedure and return to work and their other daily routines immediately.

The results of Velashape are gradual, so there is no drastic change after any one treatment session. Instead, Velashape produces a steady reduction of fat and cellulite each time the treatment in repeated. A noticeable difference is obtained after four treatment sessions, although additional treatments may be performed until the desired body shape is reached. The gradual effectiveness of the treatments can be a benefit for patients wishing to avoid an obvious overnight change that can draw too much attention to a person’s suddenly different appearance.

Additional benefits of Velashape include more confidence, better self-esteem, and an overall improved lifestyle.

Question: I had 500 grams silicone high profile implants place about 3 months ago. They feel a little too big and firm. I would like to downgrade them to maybe 425, maybe same projection but lesser diameter, since my ribcage is rather small. I am not necessarily looking for a conservative look; I just don’t want to look too big.

Answer: You can exchange breast implants now with little damage. Since your implant was inserted only 3 months ago, it is possible to change to a smaller implant with little effect on the skin and breast tissue. Hope that helps!
