On Wednesday, March 25, John is reading at The Community Library in Ketchum, where he started his teaching career and published his first stories in the Idaho Mountain Express. Books will be available for purchase and signing. For in-person attendance, registration is required here. The reading will also be livestreamed and the recording available afterward.

John will be reading at the McCall Public Library on Tuesday, January 20, starting at 6:00 p.m. Books will be available for purchase and signing. And on Friday, January 23, John will be welcomed back to the College of Idaho for a talk and reading hosted by the C of I Alumni office, starting at 6:30 p.m. Students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members are invited to attend this engaging evening celebrating writing, resilience, and the enduring power of story. Jocele from Caldwell’s fabulous Shared Stories Books (another C of I alum!) will be selling books.

From the first entry: “I’ve begun to think that we’re no longer waiting for the end of the world. It already ended on or near March 15, 2020. What we’re experiencing now is aftermath. I never thought there wouldn’t be ruins left after the end of the world, or confused survivors wandering among them.…I’ll bear witness to a world three years gone, and to the fragments of that world that still lie in heaps about us.”

John will discuss “Journaling the Plague Years” and will read from his blogs, End Notes and Ghost Dance, at Town Center West (just west of the Hailey Public Library) on Thursday, March 16 at 5:30 p.m.

John’s essay “Retirement Gifts” appeared in Issue 21 of Dark Mountain, an anthology of non-fiction, fiction, poetry, and artwork that revolves around the theme of confluence. The essay was originally published in October 2021 in John’s Ghost Dance blog.
