Whitney Houston – Super Bowl XXV (1991)

2012-02-28T22:58:00.001-08:00

One of the greatest, if not the greatest, national Anthems ever performed. And, in the moment, perhaps one of the greatest peformances of all time (even though some of the vocals had been recorded earlier). Ten days after the start of the Persian Gulf War, Whitney Houston performed this rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.

“I think it was a time when Americans needed to believe in our country.” Houston said later that year. “I remember standing there and looking at all those people, and it was like I could see in their faces the hopes and prayers and fears of the entire country.”

Whitney Houston died Saturday at a Beverly Hills hotel. She was 48.

Pauly D shows fans his dream to become #1 in the music industry as one of the leading DJ's around the world!

2012-02-17T22:32:00.000-08:00

Jersey Shore's first official spin-off is coming soon with Pauly D at the helm in "The Pauly D Project." “The Pauly D Project” will give viewers an inside look at Pauly D’s life away from Seaside Heights, NJ, as cameras document his transition from world-famous housemate to world-class DJ with his best friends from his home state of Rhode Island along for the ride.

While Pauly will retain his Jersey Shore swagger it’s not always all girls, good times and good music. Aiming to become one of the world’s most successful and recognized names in the music industry, Pauly D chases his dream as he signs a recording contract with rap icon 50 Cent’s G-Note Records, accompanies pop icon Britney Spears on her international “Femme Fatale” tour and tries to balance it all with the array of photo shoots, public appearances and media interviews that are now a part of his everyday life. Plus he continues to be an icon in Sin City Vegas where he plays a residency at the Palms Casino Resort having access to the hottest stars, parties and crazy life situations.

With the cast of Jersey Shore in the rearview mirror, Pauly will introduce us to his friends in music that have been with him through thick and thin from struggling DJ to #1 reality TV personality.

“The Pauly D Project” will air internationally on MTV channels around the world starting in June 2012.

The cast of MTV’s “The Pauly D Project” are:

Paul “Pauly D” Delvecchio
A DJ in his hometown of Johnston, Rhode Island, Pauly D shot to fame as one eighth of “Jersey Shore” – the highest rated series in MTV history. Pauly D got his start as a DJ at a local Rhode Island nightclub called ULTRA – where he forged the friendships viewers will see in his new series. Pauly D just announced a monthly music residency at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino beginning February 18, 2012. During the summer of 2011, the star helmed the turntables at Palms Casino Resort. In September, he entertained at iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas alongside some of the biggest names in the music industry including Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, The Black Eyed Peas and Alicia Keys. Following a spot on Britney Spears’ Femme Fetale Tour with Nicki Minaj, Pauly was signed to hip-hop mogul 50 Cent’s record label, G-Note records. He was also voted the “#8 Best DJ in America” in 2010 and one of VIBE Magazine’s “Top 6 DJs Who Rocked 2011.”

Michael “Biggie” Morgan
Biggie is a DJ who became best friends with Pauly D when they were DJs together at Club ULTRA in Rhode Island. Biggie now works as Pauly D’s road manager, handling all the logistics, sound checks and technical issues and even setting up the equipment for their music gigs around the world. The man behind the man with the blowout, Biggie keeps Pauly D’s day-to-day life flowing seamlessly but sometimes to the detriment of his own personal life and relationship with his girlfriend Mary Jane. As Biggie struggles to remain loyal to his hometown girl while everyone else in his crew hooks-up, can love survive the whirlwind, jetset lifestyle Biggie has adopted in order to help his best friend make it to the top of the music charts?

Gerard “Big Jerry” Gialanella
Always calm, cool and collected – don’t let the laid-back exterior fool you. Jerry is the unofficial baby brother of Pauly D’s crew – and often the butt of their group’s jokes – but he’s been throwing elbows as a bouncer since he was 18-years-old. Becoming a part of a tight knit trio with Pauly D and Biggie when he was a bouncer at Club ULTRA, he now serves as Pauly D’s personal security and a much-needed confidante, protecting him from over-exuberant fans and haters across the globe. Newly slimmed down after losing over 140 pounds, he’s still always ready to protect his best friend and the things he’s witnessed on the road with TV’s most recognizable DJ would have to have been seen to be believed.

Ryan Labbe
Here comes trouble: Ryan is the guy responsible for bringing their group together as the club manager for ULTRA, where he gave Pauly D and Biggie some of their first gigs. Ryan is off-the-cuff and off-the chain and never holds back how he feels. He serves as Pauly D’s partner in crime and as a reality check for one of the kings of reality TV. By keeping it exceedingly real, their circle of friends is better for it. Always a man with a plan, Ryan is never without a great new business idea or venture.

Jason “JROC” Craig
JROC is known in Las Vegas’ most elite circles as “Mr. Vegas,” and serves as Pauly D and Co.’s West Coast social liaison. A respected marketing executive currently working for Hyde Bellagio, JROC introduced the crew to the city’s most popular spots, parties and sights during Pauly D’s residency at The Palms Resort and has since become a close friend to all four guys. He’s always got the insights on the hottest parties, restaurants, people and as female viewers are about to find out...is hot himself.

Justin Bieber tweeted that Jepsen's single was "possibly the catchiest song I've ever heard lol."

2012-02-16T22:23:00.002-08:00

Justin Bieber has a brand new girl but it's not what you think. Mr. Bieber has put his official "tweeting" sign of approval for Carly Rae Jepsen, a Canadian singer currently No. 1 in Canada.

Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe

While visiting friends and family back in Canada, Bieber caught Jepson's latest hit "Call Me, Maybe" on the radio and was instantly love struck.

Nothing to worry about super hot and famous girlfriend, Selena Gomez because Bieber was talking about her music.

He started off tweeting that everyone should have a listen to this brand new song:

"Call me maybe by Carly Rae Jepson is possibly the catchiest song I've ever heard lol"

Then, turning to his business instincts, Bieber did some research and decided to sign her up. Carly is now the newest artist to be signed to record label “School Boy Records.” Jepsen will be working along side Justin and his manager Scooter Braun.

While Jepson announced on Canada's version of the VMAs (Much Music Awards) her new signing, Justin let the world know. There can be no doubt that the life of Carly Rae Jepson has completely changed now that she is Justin's new girl!!

Google makes it easy for indie musicians to sell tunes

2011-11-16T22:03:00.000-08:00

Along with unveiling its new Music Store, Google also announced today that indie musicians will not be left out in the cold when it comes to selling songs. No, the search giant is also launching the Artist Hub, which will allow artists to sell songs in the Google Music Store and via YouTube.

When artists visit the new Artists Hub (which doesn’t seem active yet), they can create a page for a one-time free of $25. This will be what users see when they search for bands in the music store. The presentation mentioned nothing about Google+ Pages — we hope these two pages will be integrated in the future.

The page includes bio, photos, etc, and the artist can upload their music and set prices, as well as how long song previews will be. Artists keep 70% of the revenue and they can release music as often as they like. They can also sell their music on YouTube via the video-sharing site’s new Merch Store.

We’ll have more on how the store works in the coming days.

The O Music Awards offer the best of the digital underground that is emerging to mainstream.

Last O Music Awards, we celebrated the proceedings by enlisting Chiddy of Chiddy Bang to break the Guinness World record for Longest Freestyle Rap. This time, we’re bringing fans as well as a cadre of strong-hearted dancers together to break a new record, while also supporting a worthy cause.
As you know, the awards will take place on Halloween, but up until now we’ve been mum on where they would be going down. Well, the black cat is out of the bag: We’ll be invading Los Angeles on Saturday, October 29, at which point we will kick off a massive dance extravaganza in order to break the Guinness World Record For Longest Dance Party — at The Roxy Theatre on the Sunset Strip.
The whole deal be livestreamed right here on OMusicAwards.com, and will wrap up after 55 hours when we nab the record (hopefully). The show itself will begin shortly after — 11:30pm ET/ 8:30pm PT on OMusicAwards.com — at another location in the City of Angels.
Pretty cool, right? Well, it gets better. Our troupe of brave dancers won’t be tangoing and twisting in vain: We plan to use this World Record attempt to raise awareness for LGBT youth issues (bullying in particular) by allowing fans to donate money during the stream.
Funds will be split between GLSE (the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network), It Gets Better, The Gay Straight Alliance Network (GSA), Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation). Fans will also be able to tap into social media to support the cause and root for their favorite dancers.
We’re strapping on our dancing shoes in preparation, so start exercising those typing fingers — we’re going to need your support to get through those last sweat-stained hours.

THE THING

2011-10-04T00:34:00.000-07:00

--

Everyone who thinks that The Thing is a remake and not a prequel can be forgiven. Not only does the new film share the title of John Carpenter’s 1982 classic horror flick, but they bare the same premise: don’t trust anyone because they could be aliened-up. This new clip shows that the upcoming pre-make throws at least one new element in the mix. Because the movie takes place at the Norwegian station that initially held the alien before it escaped and made its way to the American camp, there’s a language barrier between the Norwegian scientists and Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s character. Her inability to understand what they’re screaming adds an extra layer of confusion and terror to an already confusing and terrifying situation.

Hit the jump to check out the clip. The Thing opens October 14th.
Here’s the official synopsis for The Thing:

Antarctica: an extraordinary continent of awesome beauty. It is also home to an isolated outpost where a discovery full of scientific possibility becomes a mission of survival when an alien is unearthed by a crew of international scientists. The shape-shifting creature, accidentally unleashed at this marooned colony, has the ability to turn itself into a perfect replica of any living being. It can look just like you or me, but inside, it remains inhuman. In the thriller The Thing, paranoia spreads like an epidemic among a group of researchers as they’re infected, one by one, by a mystery from another planet. Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up. When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew’s pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish. The Thing serves as a prelude to John Carpenter’s classic 1982 film of the same name.

Rio Ferdinand left out of England squad for Montenegro

2011-10-03T00:42:00.001-07:00

=

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has been left out of England's squad for the Euro 2012 qualifier in Montenegro on Friday.
Liverpool's Andy Carroll, Fulham's Bobby Zamora and Manchester United's Danny Welbeck are among the forwards, with no place for Jermain Defoe.
Fit-again Steven Gerrard is not risked after a recent groin problem.
England need only a point from Friday's match to qualify for the finals in Poland and Ukraine next summer.
Ferdinand returned from a hamstring injury suffered on the opening day of the league season at West Bromwich Albion to play in his club's matches against Stoke and Basel last month.
He was a substitute against Norwich at the weekend but had hoped he had done enough to be selected by England manager Fabio Capello.
However, Gary Cahill retains his place following accomplished displays alongside skipper John Terry in the victories against Bulgaria and Wales last month, and with highly rated Manchester United defender Phil Jones also included, there is no place for 32-year-old former captain Ferdinand, who won the first of his 81 caps in 1997.
United attacker Ashley Young is selected despite being left out against Norwich to rest an ankle injury.
Zamora, who scored the sixth goal in Fulham's demolition of QPR on Sunday, has made only one previous international appearance, against Hungary in August last year.
After being sidelined for five months by a broken leg, the 30-year-old former Brighton, Tottenham and West Ham forward was picked as a substitute for the June qualifier with Switzerland but did not play.
Tottenham full-back Kyle Walker is recalled after impressing England coach Fabio Capello with a wholehearted display in Sunday's north London derby, culiminating in a 25-yard drive for the winning goal in a 2-1 victory for Spurs.
Capello has promised that his side will not set out to earn a draw in Montenegro, insisting that they will aim to take all three points.
"If you play for a draw it is a big mistake, you are defending a result and it is easy then to make silly or stupid mistakes," he told FATV.
"We need to go to win in Montenegro and not to play for a draw."
England squad: Scott Carson (Bursaspor), Joe Hart (Man City), David Stockdale (Ipswich); Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Bolton), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Phil Jones (Man Utd), Micah Richards (Man City), John Terry (captain, Chelsea), Kyle Walker (Tottenham); Gareth Barry (Man City), Stewart Downing (Liverpool), Adam Johnson (Man City), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), James Milner (Man City), Scott Parker (Tottenham), Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Ashley Young (Man Utd); Darren Bent (Aston Villa), Andy Carroll (Liverpool), Wayne Rooney (Man Utd), Danny Welbeck (Man Utd), Bobby Zamora (Fulham)

Tottenham 3 - 1 Shamrock Rovers

-
Goals & Highlights Tottenham Hotspur 3-1... by VIVAGoals
Tottenham survived a scare as they fought back from 1-0 down to run out comfortable winners against Shamrock Rovers in the Europa League.
Rovers took an unlikely lead after the break when Stephen Rice flicked in Gary Twigg's long-range strike. But their lead lasted just 10 minutes before Roman Pavlyuchenko and Jermain Defoe both headed home in the space of two minutes to wrestle back control.Giovani dos Santos smashed home a third five minutes later to wrap up the win. With the north London derby to come at the weekend, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp opted to rest many of his key players, although he brought back Aaron Lennon after a month out through injury. But with the lively Dos Santos pulling the strings behind strikers Pavlyuchenko and Defoe, Spurs controlled the first half without finding the breakthrough their dominance deserved.Rovers keeper Richard Brush diverted Defoe's 17th-minute effort on to the bar before Danny Rose smashed the woodwork with a looping strike.Former Coventry trainee Brush also made wonderful saves to deny long-range efforts from Dos Santos and Pavlyuchenko, who had a header cleared off the line by Stephen O'Donnell. And White Hart Lane was stunned when Rovers scored just five minutes after the restart in front of their away following.A curling free-kick from Gary McCabe was palmed away by Carlo Cudicini to Twigg on the edge of the box and his effort was touched home by Rice.Rovers' hopes of pulling off one of the great European shocks of all time lasted just 10 minutes before Spurs finally found their scoring touch.Dos Santos, who has often been on the fringes at Spurs since moving from Barcelona, whipped in a fantastic cross that Pavlyuchenko emphatically headed home for his first goal of the season. And the home fans breathed a huge sigh of relief barely two minutes later when Andros Townsend's cross was finished by Defoe.Mexican ace Dos Santos smashed home the third five minutes later after good work from Defoe.Former Tottenham star Rohan Ricketts came off the Rovers bench with 19 minutes to go to a warm reception from the home fans, six years after leaving the Lane.

Exclusive: GHOST RIDER 2 Director Brian Taylor Talks 3D, Running Time, Deleted Scenes, Filming in Europe, Nic Cage and a Lot More

2011-09-27T23:13:00.000-07:00

-
A few days ago, I got to sit down with director Brian Taylor for an exclusive interview on Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. With a February 17, 2012 release date fast approaching, Taylor is currently in post-production finishing up the movie. However, while the movie is still almost five months from getting released, they already have a few deleted scenes and Taylor says the sequel will be 90 minutes (the original was 114).
During the interview we talked about where they are in the editing process, the experience of post converting to 3D and his thoughts on 3D, what to expect from Idris Elba and Nicolas Cage in the film, the deleted scenes, the run time, what will be on the DVD/Blu-ray (they captured thousands of hours of footage: interviews, features, behind-the-scenes stuff), what it was like to film in Eastern Europe (he tells some crazy stories), will there be other Marvel characters in the sequel, the full trailer, and a lot more. Trust me, if you’re a fan of Neveldine/Taylor and have been looking forward to Ghost Rider 2, you’re going to like this interview. Hit the jump to watch.
Ghost Rider 2 posterFinally, if you missed the teaser trailer for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, click here. You can also check out over 30 images from the film here. And one last thing, a huge thank you to Brian Taylor for giving me so much of his time.
Since I know some of you don’t have 15 minutes to watch the interview, here’s 10 things to know about the Ghost Rider sequel:
Neveldine and Taylor’s run-and-gun shooting style does not lend itself to the traditional rules of what looks good in 3D. They ignored those “rules” and shot exactly the way they wanted to shoot.
Ghost Rider 2 will be post-converted in to 3D, but don’t fear a rush job. Taylor was focused on making the 3D “state of the art, cutting edge, the best it could possibly be.”
The runtime for the sequel is about 90 minutes. (The original was 114 minutes.)
No prior Neveldine/Taylor film has ended up with a true deleted scene. Ghost Rider 2 will end up with 2-4 on the DVD.
Alongside the deleted scenes, the DVD/Blu-ray will be packed with interviews, features, and behind-the-scenes footage. Taylor claims they captured “thousands and thousands and thousands of hours of footage.”
Cage will be unleashed in this movie. They wanted “every face of Nic.” At the end of the shoot, Cage told the directors, “Guys, I don’t think I have any other ways to be crazy. I think I’ve done all of it.”
At the same time, Taylor thinks Elba will blow people’s minds with his charisma. “That guy could kill babies on screen. He’s so likeable.”
Neveldine and Taylor came on to the project wanting to reinvent Ghost Rider on screen. They redesigned the character, made it “a lot darker, a lot weirder.” Sony embraced their take.
The teaser trailer barely showed off anything because most of the CG and “a lot of the most spectacular things” weren’t done. They saved some images for the full trailer.
Filming in eastern Europe was dangerous. To illustrate the level of guerilla filmmaking, Taylor describes a scene where both the actor (Elba) and the camera operator (Neveldine) go over a cliff. It seemed like the rig could fall over with a slight wind.
