New Sermons from December & January

Several new sermons have been posted to the Media & Messages section of the church website, including the Bishop's sermon from December 2011, Bob Slade's sermon from the January All Age Service, and Anderson Marsh's sermon from the first Parish Communion of the year. To make finding a sermon easier, you can now select a sermon by Speaker, Topic or Year.

Farewell to the Dowdeswells

Sunday the 16th of October is Dave and Jean Dowdeswell's last Sunday with us. They have been such an integral part of the life, work and the community at St Mary Magdalen, and we will mis them very much. At 10:45 after the Young Family Service there will be a little 'celebration' to say 'thank you' and 'farewell' to this very special couple.

We are now 90p away from raising £200 pounds through upcycling. We are now enrolled in the School's in Session competition at Terracycle, and the more parcels we send Terracycle the more chance we have of winning an extra £30 for St Mary's. Also take a look in this weeks Petersfield Post as our upcycling efforts have been rewarded with an article and photo on the bottom of page 4.

Congratulations to all who help with Upcycling - St Mary Magdalen came 7th in the recent Danone Rubbish to Riches competition, and we have been highly commended by Terracycle.In addition to yogurt pots, Baby Wipe packaging etc. we are now able to upcycle empty toothpaste tubes (except for the aerosol kiind) and tooth-brushes. Please leave all products for upcycling in the basket at the back of the church.

PACT Prayer

The new PACT prayer group, which will be focusing on praying for the community, and to which all are welcome, will next meet on 11 August at 2pm at the home of Captain Linda Read from the Salvation Army. It will then be held on the first Thursday of each month.

Once we have 100 MusicMagpie will come and collect them, and send us a cheque within 7 days for what we have sent them. Lent Lunches

During Lent we will be having three lunches in the SVH: on13 & 27 March & 10 April. These will be at 12.30pm. At each lunch there will be a guest speaker for about 25 minutes, followed by soup, cheese, bread and fruit.

The first lunch will be next Sunday (13th) and our speaker will be Hannah Turner the Operations Manager at the King?s Arms. All are welcome and even if you can?t stay for lunch do come and hear Hannah and support the King?s Arms.

This month one of the organisations is the Petersfield Counselling Service, which is supported by PACT. So please do make sure you get a token on each visit to the store and put it in the right box. We will be having our first lunch at the end of January. If you would like to come please sign the sheet at the back of the church as this really does help the caterers. These lunches are for everyone.

Bishop's Foundation Course

A number of us have begun to feel that we are not sufficiently good at listening to God for his direction for us as a church. Recognising the gift that Tony and Thelma Berry have for this we have asked them to facilitate some opportunities for those who would like to to spend some time listening to God. If you are interested in being a part of this please contact Tony and Thelma.

Last week we launched a small library at StMM. The aim is not to have a huge number of books, but to have a small selection which have been recommended and reviewed by others in the church. Please see the display and consider taking a book to read and be challenged or encouraged by it. If you have read a book, which you would like to recommend, please speak to Ken Tottle, write a review consider whether you could donate a copy to the library.br

Unity Bookshop

Once again the financial figures for the year show that the bookshop has just broken even but each year the margin has become slimmer. Please support the bookshop otherwise we could loose it.

A very big thank you for the food donations so far - they are very much appreciated - a lifeline for many, but now the cupboard is almost bare, and people still need to eat etc. So please continue to put your spare dried or tinned goods into the black basket at the back of church. Many thanks!

Pew Bibles

The PCC has agreed to place more Bibles in the pews in Church. If you would like to purchase one, perhaps in memory of a loved one, please see Charlie Meader. Each Bible costs L9. brA big thank you to all who have paid for one of the new pew Bibles in memory of a loved one. To-date, 22 Bibles have been paid for in this way. Labels have now been placed in the Bibles.
