scheme="http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#" term="Lakers move quickly to get Mike Brown"/>
Lakers move quickly to get Mike Brown

Former Cavaliers coach apparently impressed Jim Buss during a meeting in Minneapolis last week. Brown, who says he wants a 'team-first team,' hasn't spoken with Kobe Bryant, who declines to comment on the decision.

The Lakers have agreed to hire former Cleveland Cavaliers Coach Mike Brown as their new head coach..

n a surprising and quick move, the Lakers ended their search for a head coach Wednesday by agreeing to hire former Cleveland Cavaliers coach Mike Brown.

The decision to hire Brown, 41, to replace Phil Jackson was made mostly by Jim Buss, the team's executive vice president of player personnel who is the son of owner Jerry Buss, according to several NBA executives not authorized to speak publicly.

The Lakers released a statement Wednesday saying they have met with Brown and are "impressed by him," that an agreement is "in place," but he hasn't signed a contract yet.

As The Times reported Tuesday night, Brown is expected to sign a deal worth about $4.5 million a season over four years for a total of about $18 million. The last year is a team option, which means Brown would get paid $2.5 million of his salary if he is not retained.

Brown posted a 272-138 record in five seasons with the Cavaliers before he was fired after the 2010 season.

"I'm here to continue to try to help this organization carve a championship path that's already been laid," Brown said Wednesday on ESPN during halftime of the Dallas Mavericks-Oklahoma City Thunder game.

"I know I'm not going to fill [Jackson's] shoes…But I am excited to help carve my own path with this team going forward," Brown said. He worked this season as an ESPN analyst.

Derek Fisher, the Lakers' veteran point guard, in a Twitter message said: "Will miss Phil but excited to start a new chapter under Mike Brown. Looking forward to a different style and energy!!"

The decision to hire Brown caught many by surprise, even some in the Lakers' front office who anticipated a coaching change to take place near mid-June.

Brown may not sign his deal until early next week because there are still details to be worked out, possibly including how much he would earn if a lockout occurs after the league's labor contract expires June 30.

Brown could get up to 50% of his yearly salary while the lockout is in place, according to NBA executives familiar with the negotiations. However, the Lakers probably would like to negotiate that package down to $1 million, the executives said.

The Lakers' coaching search began May 17 when Jerry Buss, Jim Buss and General Manager Mitch Kupchak finally had their season-ending meeting.

Last Saturday, Brown met with Jim Buss in Minneapolis while Buss was at an NBA predraft camp, according to league executives.

Brown was very prepared and wooed Buss with his presentation about defensive schemes. Brown also talked about his experience working with a superstar in Cleveland in LeBron James, and how he would coexist with Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant.

Buss returned home Tuesday night around 7:30, and about two hours later the framework of a deal was in place, the executives said.

Brown was also in the running for the head coaching job with Golden State. However, Buss did not want to lose Brown to the Warriors.

Other likely candidates for the Lakers coaching job were Rick Adelman, Mike Dunleavy, Lakers assistant coach Brian Shaw and Jeff Van Gundy. But Adelman, Dunleavy and Van Gundy never got an interview with the Lakers, according to various NBA officials.

Adelman had some support from Jerry Buss, but Jim's decision carried the day.

"What you can expect from a Coach Brown team is a family atmosphere, a defensive-minded team," Brown said on ESPN. "I want a hard-working team, but yet still I want a team-first team."

Martin St. Louis big-time for Lightning again

he Tampa Bay Lightning pushed the Bruins [team stats] to a Game 7 last night and, as you might expect, Martin St. Louis had a big hand in the 5-4 victory.

St. Louis scored the equalizer in the second period and then scored the eventual game-winner at 10:15 of the third.

The Hart Trophy candidate said he relishes the big moments.

“I think that’s what you play for, whether it’s as a kid in the driveway and pretending to be in a Game 7,” said St. Louis, who also had an assist for a three-point night. “Those are the games you watch as a kid. Those are the games that get your fire going and those are the ones you want to play in.

“The do-or-die games, our backs against the wall, you want to leave it out there, and I was fortunate to get a couple of good bounces today. And guys made good plays. But I felt like in those games, I said I like to give myself a chance to help my team.”

St. Louis is one of the two leftovers in the lineup from the Lightning’s Stanley Cup team in 2004 along with captain Vincent Lecavalier.

But the rest of the Bolts got some valuable playoff experience when they came back from a 3-1 series deficit to beat the Penguins in Game 7 in Pittsburgh.

“We knew it was going to be a long series,” said St. Louis. “This is a good team. It comes down to one game. Luckily, all our team has been through a Game 7. Some of us have played more but we’ve had that experience. So we know what to expect.

“The fourth win is always the toughest one to get and we know both teams will battle hard to get it.”

Top line tops

The B’s first line of David Krejci, Nathan Horton and Milan Lucic carried the B’s last night, accounting for all four goals. While Krejci had the hat trick, Lucic seemed particularly determined.

“He was skating (last night). It’s as simple as that,” said B’s coach Claude Julien. “When he skates and comes at you hard, it certainly puts everybody on their heels. . . . It made a whole lot of difference. . . .

Brad Marchand was forced to miss the last couple of minutes of the game when part of the blade on his skate broke and the repair could not be done in time.

“It was pretty frustrating. It’s a tough time for that to happen. You want to be able to help the team, but it’s just bad luck,” said Marchand. . . .

Patrice Bergeron had a rare sub-.500 night in the faceoff circle as he won nine of 20 draws. . . .

The Lightning didn’t have forward Sean Bergenheim at their disposal last night. Bergenheim, who has nine power-play goals, suffered a lower body injury in Game 5 and was not able to go last night.

Young Thunder come up short in Western finals

DALLAS — The young Oklahoma City Thunder keep getting better. They just are not ready to take that next step yet.

Despite leading on the road for much of Game 5 of the Western Conference finals, they couldn't extend their season after giving Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki (FSY) a second chance.
Nowitzki hit the go-ahead three-pointer with 1:14 left, after Russell Westbrook (FSY) couldn't handle the rebound on the first missed 3, and the Mavericks went on to a 100-96 victory Wednesday night to advance to the NBA finals

"It's kind of shocking that our season is over with," Kevin Durant (FSY) said. "But we fought hard all season. I tried to keep it positive and tell the guys, 'Hey, we had a great year.' Collectively, we've got to keep working."
Until Nowitzki's second-chance three-pointer, the Thunder had been behind for only a minute of the second half and appeared poised to win in Dallas for the second time in the series.
"I just think we played hard and just couldn't come up with the win," said Westbrook, who scored 31 points.
Instead of going home for another game, the team filled with 20-something stars will go home thinking about what could have been.
The Thunder are sure to remember the disappointment of how this series ended. They blew a 15-point lead in the last 5 minutes of Game 4 at home, then couldn't hold on with a late lead when facing elimination.
But at some point they might look back at the series against the Mavericks, a veteran-filled team focused on another championship chance, as a big learning experience.
"We want to win a championship. We respect the process that it takes to win one, and our guys do the same thing, they respect the heck out of the game," coach Scott Brooks (FSY) said. "You can't skip steps. I don't know how soon we were going to get there, but I can tell you this, those guys are not going to hope to get there, they are going to work to get there."
After taking the Los Angeles Lakers to a Game 6 in the first round of last season's playoffs before a one-point loss ended their season, the Thunder won two rounds this year — knocking Denver out in five games and needing seven games to get past Memphis.
"It's a different feeling (this year). All of us expected to go far," Durant said. "We had high expectations for ourselves coming into this year. ... After a good first round, hard-fought second round, we put ourselves in good position to fight for a finals appearance and thought we had a good chance."
Oklahoma City did better against Dallas this month than the two-time defending champion Lakers. Los Angeles was swept in its second-round series by the Mavericks, including a 122-86 loss in the same building in the ending game of that series 2 weeks ago.
"I just know that we played together as a team throughout the whole series, and just couldn't come up with the wins," Westbrook said. "We're not just worried about Dallas. We've got a whole next year to come up to worry about other teams. We're going to come in and just get better."
Westbrook and Durant are 22-year-old standouts for the Thunder, whose oldest starter for Game 5 was 27-year-old guard Thabo Sefolosha (FSY).
The Mavericks' youngest starter was 28-year-old Tyson Chandler (FSY), in his 10th NBA season.
"Next year when they're 23, they're still going to be young. We're not going to use it as an excuse," Brooks said. "I know our guys, they improve all the time. They're real committed to each other. I've never been on a team other than my high school team that we had a closer group of guys and they are all the same age and they're fighting to get better."
Durant and James Harden (FSY) scored 23 points apiece. Durant, who after Game 4 apologized to Thunder fans for letting them down, was 8-of-20 shooting with a long drought in Game 5.
Oklahoma City had an 88-83 lead when Brooks called timeout with 6 minutes left. After Nick Collison (FSY) drove for a dunk, the lead was seven points.
Durant, who missed his only shot in the second quarter and missed his first five in the second half, scored on a driving one-handed fadeaway shot with 4 minutes left to make it 92-86. The Thunder couldn't hold on from there.
"It was a difficult loss for us. We played so well in that game but didn't make enough plays down the stretch," Collison said. "We learned that we're talented enough to play for a championship. But we have to play basketball better. We need to learn how to win games better, and that's difficult."

Mubarak’s wife ordered detained

CAIRO — Suzanne Mubarak, the wife of ousted Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak, suffered a heart attack Friday after learning that prosecutors had ordered her detention in a broadening criminal probe into the source of the family’s wealth, Egyptian state television reported.

The former first lady, 70, was being treated in the intensive care unit at Sharm el-Sheikh Hospital in the Sinai resort town, to which her family fled after a popular uprising led to her husband’s ouster three months ago.

A report on the Web site of the government-run Middle East News Agency (MENA) said the former first lady would be detained for 15 days as the investigation into allegations of corruption continues. Her husband and sons have been remanded in custody for a month on similar detention orders.

Suzanne Mubarak became an influential figure in Mubarak’s National Democratic Party, serving as the public face of many of the government’s social and welfare programs.

The MENA report said prosecutors ordered her detention because they suspect she obtained “illegal wealth using her husband’s position and political authority.”

The Mubaraks fled to the Red Sea resort city Feb. 11, after an 18-day popular uprising forced Hosni Mubarak to step down.

Since then, investigators acting at the direction of the country’s interim military leaders have been trying to ascertain the source of the Mubarak family’s wealth.

Rooting out the graft and cronyism for which Mubarak’s National Democratic Party became infamous was one of the demands of the leaders of the revolution.

The former president, 82, has been detained in a hospital in Sharm el-Sheikh since April 13, when prosecutors ordered his arrest. Officials have said they expect to move him to Cairo for interrogation when he is healthy enough to travel.

Hosni Mubarak has denied the allegations of corruption. He also faces charges stemming from the killing of demonstrators during the early days of the uprising.

Gaddafi says he is beyond NATO’s reach

TRIPOLI, Libya — Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi defiantly insisted Friday he would outlast NATO’s pounding of the country’s capital, and his government denied a report that he had been injured in a powerful attack.

“I tell the coward crusaders — I live in a place that you cannot reach. I live in the hearts of millions,” Gaddafi said in a brief audio recording played on Libyan state television.

Gaddafi appeared to be responding to comments by the Italian foreign minister, Franco Frattini, that the Libya leader was “probably wounded” in a major missile strike a day earlier on what was apparently an underground bunker at his compound in Tripoli. The Italian official was citing a remark by the Vatican envoy in Tripoli, Archbishop Giovanni Martinelli.

But Frattini acknowledged he had no evidence, and State Department spokesman Marc Toner said the U.S. government had “seen nothing to confirm those reports” of Gaddafi being hit. Libyan officials said Gaddafi was not injured.

NATO forces have launched strikes on Libya for two months under a U.N. resolution authorizing them to protect civilians from Gaddafi’s attacks. In recent days, the coalition has escalated strikes on the capital to degrade Gaddafi’s war machine and push him to give up.

The pressure on Gaddafi appeared likely to further escalate: The International Criminal Court said prosecutors would produce arrest warrants Monday for three people accused of crimes against humanity in connection with the Libya strife. While officials declined to revel the names, it is widely assumed one of them will be Gaddafi.

An arrest warrant would limit Gaddafi’s options if he went into exile, analysts said, since most countries are signatories to the treaty that established the court.

In Washington, the Obama administration for the first time received a senior official from the Libyan opposition at the White House for consultations. Tom Donilon, the national security adviser, discussed with Mahmoud Jibril “how the United States and the coalition can provide additional support,” a statement said. No details were provided.

The White House said it viewed the opposition’s governing board, the Transitional National Council, as “ a legitimate and credible interlocutor of the Libyan people.”

But Jibril came away without any U.S. commitment to recognize the council as the legitimate government of Libya. The cash-strapped opposition has sought such recognition so it can quickly gain access to the tens of billions of dollars in Libyan assets frozen abroad under U.N. sanctions.

The U.S. government has provided humanitarian aid to Libya and pledged items like tents, boots and body armor for the rebels. The administration also has said it will work with Congress to unfreeze about $150 million in Libyan assets for humanitarian aid. But Jibril has complained that the legislative process will take too long.

Fighting continued Friday, and doctors in the main hospital in the rebel-held city of Misurata said that 10 people died and 20 were injured in rocket attacks from Gaddafi forces. One 4-year-old girl’s leg had to be amputated after a rocket struck her house, killing her two younger siblings, a doctor said.

In Brega, which is in government-controlled territory near the front lines of the conflict, the Libyan government said that a Friday morning NATO strike killed 11 Muslim religious leaders and wounded 45 at a guesthouse. It displayed gruesome photographs that it said were of the victims. It was impossible for journalists to verify the claim.

If true, it would be the largest civilian death toll during the NATO operation. NATO said it had struck a command-and-control center.

OSAMA OPERATION

osama operation , seemed as a filmi story

as accidents are so rare ehich become the leading story of all the printing or electronic media in all over the world . the american army opertion is also a story against osama bin ladin. the american most wanted man,s death story was released himself the american president barak obama . But some people are not beleived that osama is not in this world now . Some people thinks that osama,s death was happened some where else ( most thinking in afganistan ) and american army played a dimmy operation in abbotaabad and after announced his president from weshington about osama,s death . it is also saying that the story of osama is ended a long time ago . all this stage drama is done for the succsess of obma,s up coming presidency election . Osama was not a common man . He is billioniers , trillioners son of saudi,s family , he comes in the field of war againt the russian army as the american said him . after the war ( JIHAD ) against russia the same C.I.A which was pretented the osama for russian war , also searched his residence in abbotabad where the past friend and the most wanted enemy of present is resided . cut off from all the wealth and easy life is not a simple story . Osama did it all because he is geniuse , the way in which osama lived may be not complicated . but his friends and fallowers saying that struggles as 'JIHAD ' and the others saying all that the terarisam . Its your wish what ever you say it , but its a true fact that the whole situation of the world is changed after nine eleven . thousands of people are died and nobody know who many more can died . the person who having personality like osama his death is not a nems of enoying for any one .he is a character who is always in news with out appearing in the stage of world . and after that when a news announced of his death that after a commander opration of just 40 mints , he is died , its a true facts thats unbeliving news of most of us . in the mid night of sundy and monday the americans says that the haved killed the osama and a news of certification is released from the government of pakistan . the compound of abbotabd in which the operation is down , was being in american eyes since last many months . in the meeting of 14 march it was done that the target was being caught who will be in that compoundd . But because of a big difficulty this target was not being done , and that difficulty was the RAYMOND DAVICE ehich was in the pakistani custody . In that time the most important american jasoos was in lock up in the COAT LAKHPAT JAIL . the government of obama having thinking that nothing to happen that their opration is not succseed and RAYMOND DAVIS is not lived after that . the high value target is most important , but at that time the life and being det free of raymond davis is most important for american point of view . so after just 2 days of that meeting at 15 march the surness of raymond david and get back him from PAKISTAN . now all is clear for opration , but now their is a question that why after the freeness of RAYMOND , the opration was too late . so that is the real story that the C.I.A head quarter having so much options , and he is looking after it. After the confirmation of compound in abbotabad , as the same compounds are designed in america and the rehasall of the attack was started .

TOKYO: The operator of the damaged nuclear power plant in Japan has admitted it has no detailed blueprint to end the nuclear crisis, now more than a month old.
The admission coincided with workers at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant beginning the painstaking task of pumping thousands of tonnes of highly radioactive water into nearby containers to enable the repair of crucial cooling functions.
Yesterday hundreds of police in white protective suits started searching for the first time for bodies in the rubble within 10 kilometres of the complex.
The plant's owner, Tokyo Electric Power Company, also plans to seek government approval to start a nuclear reactor shut after a 2007 earthquake to help ease power shortages caused by the loss of the Fukushima plant.
The reactor at Kashiwazaki Kariwa, the world's biggest nuclear station, was capable of supplying electricity this year, said the president of Tepco, Masataka Shimizu. ''I would like to get approval to restart the No. 3 reactor early, this year if possible.''
Japan has experienced rolling blackouts since the earthquake and tsunami five weeks ago and faces more power shortages as temperatures rise.
Three of seven reactors at the Kashiwazaki Kariwa station are closed while Tepco strengthens structures to improve their resistance to earthquakes. Work could continue at two units while unit 3 was restarted, Mr Shimizu said.
Local government approval is required for a restart. There would be no progress on starting the reactors until Tepco resolved the problems at Fukushima, Takehiko Katagiri, a spokesman for the city of Kashiwazaki, said on April 6.
Philip White, of the Citizens' Nuclear Information Centre in Tokyo, said: ''This 'operations first, safety second' approach and the failure to learn the lessons from the 2007 quake was the cause of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster. How many more disasters will it take?''
Tepco also announced plans to move backup power for the reactors at Fukushima to higher elevations further from the ocean, in case another tsunami struck.
The power units will be moved to sites 20 metres above sea level, from the current 10 metres. The Fukushima plant was hit by a tsunami surge as high as 15 metres on March 11.
Authorities said small amounts of strontium had been found for the first time in the soil near the plant. Strontium is one of the most harmful radioactive elements and has been linked with leukaemia, but the levels found at Daiichi were said not to be harmful to humans.
Mr Shimizu admitted that the company was still working on a master plan to end the crisis.
Police believe the 10-kilometre zone around the Fukushima plant may contain 1000 bodies. At least 13,400 people were killed as a result of the earthquake and the tsunami.

pan's fragile post-disaster political truce unravelled on Thursday as the head of the main opposition party called on unpopular Prime Minister Naoto Kan to quit over his handling of the country's natural calamities and a nuclear crisis.
At the stricken Fukushima Daiichi plant in the northeast of the country, engineers were struggling to find a new way to cool one of the six crippled reactors and Japan's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said it was now "highly likely" there was a hole in the suppression unit of the reactor.
Kan, whose public support stands at about 30 percent, had sought a grand coalition to help the country recover from its worst ever natural disaster and enact bills to pay for the country's biggest reconstruction project since World War Two.
Kan's Democratic Party controls parliament's lower house but needs opposition help to pass bills because it lacks a majority in the upper chamber, which can block legislation.
But the head of the main opposition Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) -- who last week ruled out joining hands -- on Thursday pressured Kan to go.
"The time has come for (the prime minister) to decide whether he stays or goes," Kyodo news agency quoted Sadakazu Tanigaki as telling a news conference.

Tanigaki's comment reflects the view of many in his conservative party that Kan must step down as a precondition for any coalition as well as a hope that criticism of Kan within his own Democratic Party will gather steam after party powerbroker Ichiro Ozawa blasted the premier over his crisis management.
Upper House speaker Takeo Nishioka, a well-known Kan critic from the Democrats, also urged Kan to resign, Kyodo said.
Kan, however, who took office as Japan's fifth leader since 2006 last June, is not likely to step down readily, while opposition parties could come under fire if they try to take disaster budgets hostage in a political battle, analysts said.
"Kan will probably ignore this," said Koichi Nakano, a Sophia University professor. "If they thought of the national interests, would they (Kan's critics) do this now?"

Officials did not estimate how many bodies may be in the area being searched. The National Police Agency placed the death toll at more than 13,400, with the number of missing at more than 14,800.
Radioactive material has been leaking from the Fukushima Daiichi plant since the magnitude 9.0 earthquake and tsunami struck the northeast coast on March 11. The tsunami wave that struck the power plant may have been as high as 50 feet, said its operator, the Tokyo Electric Power Company.
Thursday’s search is the closest the police have come to the Fukushima plant since the nuclear crisis began and is well within the 12-mile evacuation zone around the plant. Authorities have recommended that people remain indoors or avoid an area within a radius of 19 miles.
On Thursday, workers were continuing to remove radioactive water from the basements of the No. 1 and No. 3 reactor turbine buildings, as well as from underground tunnels.
Japan’s nuclear regulator, the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency, said Thursday that water levels in a part of the tunnel had increased slightly, probably because of the continuous amount of water being injected into the No. 2 reactor to keep it cool.
This week, Japan’s government raised its rating of the severity of the accident at the Daiichi plant to 7, the worst on an international scale for measuring nuclear disasters.
Meanwhile, Japan’s prime minister, Naoto Kan, asked a government panel on Thursday to develop proposals for rebuilding the areas devastated by the earthquake and tsunami. Mr. Kan, who has called the natural disaster the greatest crisis facing Japan since World War II, asked the panel to deliver proposals by the end of June.

arbed wire fences and forbidding high walls became a horrifyingly familiar sight to those who dared speak out over the past three decades; for many of the thousands who passed through Cairo's Tora prison complex and were tortured within it, this notorious jail was the ultimate symbol of Hosni Mubarak's Egypt.

On Wednesday, as it has done so many times before, Tora received two more prisoners accused of crimes against the state. Their names were Gamal and Alaa Mubarak, sons of the ousted president, and they arrived in the early hours, handcuffed and clad in standard-issue white jumpsuits.

Egypt's remarkable revolution has boasted many poignant moments, but the sight of the all-powerful Mubarak family being led into the top-security cells which once housed their political opponents will count among the most memorable. The detained ousted Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak was on Thursday asked to appear before a Cairo court along with his two sons on Tuesday, in signs that the military rulers were pushing ahead with investigations against him, in spite of his complaints of heart trouble.

The authorities, however, put off at the last moment the shifting of the ailing president, who is still reported to be in ICU in a hospital in Sharm al-Sheikh in view of his “unstable heart conditions”.

Mr. Mubarak and his two sons were ordered detained for 15 days by the Prosecutor General pending investigations into accusation of corruption and abuse of authority.

Military sources quoted by al Jazeera said Mr. Mubarak was being shifted from Sharm al Sheikh to Cairo. It remains unclear whether the deposed president will be sent to a hospital or to prison.

The Pan-Arab news agency said that army helicopters which had arrived in the Red Sea beach resort to shift him to Cairo, left empty as Mr. Mubarak’s health was reported to be unstable.

They haven't been referred to court yet because investigations are still ongoing," the source told Reuters, adding that the prosecutor has established technical committees to investigate documents and papers presented regarding their assets. He said no date had been set for any appearance

State television reported that Mubarak and his sons Alaa and Gamal would appear before a Cairo court on April 19 for questioning, with the Prosecutor General’s office saying that ongoing investigations were into allegation of corruption, squandering of public money and abuse of authority for personal gain.

The state television did not divulge further details about Mubarak’s health or about the investigations. It quoted the director of the Sharm al Sheikh hospital Mohmmad Fathallah as replying that the former president’s health was “somewhat improving”.

Despite being in precarious health conditions, the toppled president appeared to have little sympathy in the capital. Though Cairo’s famous cafes were abuzz with the news of his and his two sons arrests, there were no kind words or tears shed for him, BBC reported.

The channel said that thousands had gathered outside the hospital where he was lying, shouting slogans against him and calling that he be put on trial and they clashed with handful of pro-Mubarak people.

In the iconic Tahrir Square, the protesters have widely welcomed his detention and said the trial should be taken to conclusion.

Semi official newspaper Al Ahram reported that there was “great popular joy” at the decision to detain Mr. Mubarak and his sons.

An independent daily Al-Masri Al-Yom said that during interrogations the former strongman had denied ever giving an order for protesters to be attacked

The incarceration of the Mubarak brothers came as their father was formally placed in detention at his hospital bed in Sharm el-Sheikh, under suspicion of corruption, fraud and ordering the killing of peaceful protesters.

Egyptians have become accustomed to old realities being turned upside down, but as celebrations erupted over the arrest of this former political giant of the Middle East, questions are being raised about what comes next, and how the arrest will affect the volatile landscape of Egyptian politics as the nation shudders towards democracy.

Investigators have 15 days to question the 82-year-old and his sons, before prosecutors decide whether to bring charges and force the Mubarak family into the dock.

The arrest of Mr Mubarak has been a key demand of protesters. Many analysts believe the latest moves against the Mubarak family are a politicised bid to mollify angry demonstrators, who have recently shifted their attention to the titular head of the military, Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, a long-serving Mubarak-era minister.

''I seriously doubt that after all this the Mubaraks will be released,'' said Ragia Omran, a human rights lawyer and pro-change activist. ''There's been a lot of anger in the Egyptian street over the demands of the revolution not being met, and the ruling generals have arrested the Mubaraks in an effort to calm the people. To let them go now would be political suicide.''

The following is the full text of the document.
Sanya Declaration
(BRICS Leaders Meeting, Sanya, Hainan, China, 14 April 2011)
1. We, the Heads of State and Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Russian Federation, the Republic of India, the People's Republic of China and the Republic of South Africa, met in Sanya, Hainan, China for the BRICS Leaders Meeting on 14 April 2011.
2. The Heads of State and Government of Brazil, Russia, India and China welcome South Africa joining the BRICS and look forward to strengthening dialogue and cooperation with South Africa within the forum.
3. It is the overarching objective and strong shared desire for peace, security, development and cooperation that brought together BRICS countries with a total population of nearly 3 billion from different continents. BRICS aims at contributing significantly to the development of humanity and establishing a more equitable and fair world.
4. The 21st century should be marked by peace, harmony, cooperation and scientific development. Under the theme "Broad Vision, Shared Prosperity", we conducted candid and in-depth discussions and reached broad consensus on strengthening BRICS cooperation as well as on promoting coordination on international and regional issues of common interest.
5. We affirm that the BRICS and other emerging countries have played an important role in contributing to world peace, security and stability, boosting global economic growth, enhancing multilateralism and promoting greater democracy in international relations.

"Excessive volatility in commodity prices, particularly those for food and energy, poses new risks for the ongoing recovery of the world economy," said the joint statement released after BRICS Summit said here.

The declaration also highlighted issues concerning excessive capital flows to emerging nations. "We call for more attention to the risks of massive cross-border capital flows now faced by the emerging economies", it added.

The statement was issued after the Summit, which was attended by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh , Russian President Dmitry Medvedev , Chinese President Hu Jintao, Brazil's Dilma Rousseff and South Africa's Jacob Zuma .

BRICS which is a grouping of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa represents 3 billion people from different continents of the world and account for 18 per cent of the global GDP.

Early this week, the International Monetary Fund ( IMF )) too had warned that rising food and commodity prices pose a threat to poor households, adding to social and economic tensions, notably in the Middle East and North Africa.

"The international community should work together to increase production capacity, strengthen producer-consumer dialogue to balance supply and demand, and increase support to the developing countries in terms of funding and technologies", it added.

BRICS also called for a mechanism to address the problem of inadequate reliable and timely information on demand and supply at international, regional and national levels.

"The BRICS will carry out closer cooperation on food security," the statement added.

Noting the world economy still faces "uncertainties", the declaration, stressed that the international community needed to step up efforts to reduce distortion, further regulate financial market and promote sound banking systems.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told the Nato ministers meeting in Berlin that it was vital for Nato to maintain “resolve and unity” against Libyan leader Muammar Qadhafi but gave no hint Washington was prepared to re-engage in ground strikes.
As they met, a spokesman for the anti-Qadhafi rebels besieged in the western city of Misrata warned of an impending government “massacre” unless Nato intervened more decisively.
The rebels said 23 civilians were killed in a rocket attack on a residential zone near Misrata port on Thursday.
U.S. officials, briefing on condition of anonymity, appeared to brush aside French and British complaints about the pace of air strikes, saying Nato commanders had not sought more resources.
Spain said it had no plan to join the seven Nato states that have been involved in ground strikes, while Italy, the former colonial power in Libya, said it would need to hear convincing arguments for it to do so.
“As far as Nato is concerned, we have the forces that we need,” one US official said, as the Nato ministers discussed the air campaign with Arab countries and other states that have joined the Nato-led effort in Libya.

NATO would exert pressure for as long as necessary and until the forces of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi halted attacks on civilians and withdrew to bases, he said.
A loss of electricity from a crippled nuclear power plant and radiation leaks could weigh on the outlook for some time, the government warned on Wednesday, though it still expects the economy to recover later this year as reconstruction begins in the northeastern areas wrecked by the tsunami.

Higher input costs could also squeeze profit margins at companies struggling to secure enough parts to keep their factories running.

"The biggest risks, or uncertain factors for the economy, are when power supplies will recover, whether the nuclear situation will keep from worsening," Economics Minister Kaoru Yosano said.

Japan's Cabinet Office cut its assessment of the world's number three economy for the first time in six months, in light of the March 11 quake and tsunami that has killed more than 13,000 people and left over 15,000 missing.

Compounding the situation, Toyota said it would temporarily halt production at five European plants for several days in April and May, due to a shortage of parts.

It joins its Japanese rivals Nissan Motor and Honda Motor in cutting back output in Europe.

Analysts have expressed fears that the nuclear crisis that has already forced some shipping firms to avoid Japan's key ports could affect the global supply chain.

German container shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd has halted services to the ports of Yokohama and Tokyo -- the two major facilities on Tokyo Bay -- over fears of radiation contaminating its vessels, crew or cargo.

But Maersk said it would continue calling at Japanese ports as long as they were considered safe, and its offices in Japan remain open, although it has imposed a 140-nautical mile no-go zone around Fukushima.

ALLAH HO ALLAH HO ALLAH HOooo by Bulablay Chaminstan -E- Madina Owais Raza Qadri
