MPH — the producer sitting at the intersection of UK garage and the global bassline revival — is gearing up for the forthcoming release of his new album, Here, Forever (out October 20 via DisOrder / Capitol Records), and has now announced an accompanying sprawl of tour dates spanning North America, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, the UK and Europe.
MPH will make a pair of Canadian stops on his travels, which kick off tomorrow (October 2) in Portland, OR, and will have him on the road through the end of January. He'll make his first venture to Canada at the end of the month to perform at the Vancouver Convention Centre (October 31), returning to Canadian soil just shy of a month later for an appearance at Toronto's 131 McCormack Street (November 27).

The Shins' career is still defined by that scene from 2004's Garden State where Natalie Portman tells Zach Braff that the song "New Slang" will "change your life." Now, 22 years later, Shins frontman James Mercer has admitted that he was "embarrassed" by the scene.
"I just kept getting people saying that they had seen Garden State and that I had to watch it," he said on the podcast 2004: The Year Indie Rock Broke, hosted by Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino. "'Natalie Portman is in it, and she actually mentions the band and they play your song.' While it was still in the theatres, my wife and I went and saw it."
Unfortunately, he didn't enjoy it quite as much as Natalie Portman's character enjoyed "New Slang." Mercer admitted, "I just felt so conspicuous when they refer to the Shins. It was too much. It made me feel a little embarrassed."
The scene was prophetic, however — it did change Mercer's life! Revisit the scene below.
Back in 2006, no one had heard Jack White's songwriting outside of the White Stripes. That changed with the Raconteurs and their debut album Broken Boy Soldiers, which is getting an expanded companion album for Third Man Records' latest Vault package.
Broken Boy Soldiers XX includes three LPs: two of them are a live album of the band's first-ever show (in Liverpool on March 20, 2006), and the other is a collection of nine demos and outtakes. Note that this package doesn't include the original Broken Boy Soldiers album. These LPs are "Metallic Copper, Grand Green" and "Coke Bottle Clear" coloured.
The live album contains versions of all 13 songs from Broken Boy Soldiers, plus "Five on the Five" (which later appeared on 2008's Consolers of the Lonely) and two covers: Love's "A House Is Not a Motel" and the Flamin' Groovies' "Headin' for the Texas Border."
The outtakes album includes various alternate takes and demos, plus the rare B-side "The Bane Rendition" and the previously unreleased "Mech Royal."
The package also comes with a 35 mm film strip from the Jim Jarmusch-directed video for "Steady, as She Goes," plus cards for each band member from Third Man's own Tripppl trading cards imprint.

Conrad Lant — the founding vocalist and bassist of English black metal band Venom, better known as Cronos — has died. He was 63.
The outfit confirmed the musician's passing on social media, writing, "It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we share the news that Conrad 'Cronos' Lant has passed away." No cause of death has been reported at this time.
"I want to thank all of the Legions for all of the support you have given my dad over the years," Lant's son, Nathan, added to Venom's statement. "I know he really appreciated you all. He has laid down his soul, and his music will live on. The legend of Cronos will never die."
In Newcastle upon Tyne, Lant took up the stage name Cronos as he transitioned from a band called Dwarfstar to one called Guillotine, taking up the post as the latter's guitarist in 1978. It was through that project that he met Jeffrey Dunn (a.k.a. Mantas) — and when the group's original bassist quit one week prior to a church hall gig, Lant picked up the bass. In 1979, they changed the band name to Venom upon a roadie's suggestion.
The original vocalist, Clive Archer (a.k.a. Jesus Christ), departed shortly thereafter, leaving Lant to handle bass and vocals, with Dunn as the guitarist and Anthony "Abaddon" Bray on drums. After initially performing Motörhead and Judas Priest covers, Lant and Dunn began writing their own compositions, the former eventually persuading the label he worked for, Neat Records, to give them some free studio time to record a three-song demo.
Neat Records released Venom's first single, "In League with Satan / Live Like an Angel" in 1981, and their debut album, Welcome to Hell, later that same year. That LP became influential in the thrash genre, with Venom presenting a faster, harsher take than most of their heavy metal contemporaries, and making the genre's flirtation with Satanism more prominent than it perhaps had ever been before.
The band's sophomore record, 1982's Black Metal, is considered an even more important artifact in the development of black metal, thrash, death metal and other related extreme styles. Venom continued to release albums until Dunn left in 1986 to put out solo material; although two guitarists (Mike Hickey and Jim Clare) were hired to replace him and the group's fifth album, Calm Before the Storm, came out in 1987, things fell apart quickly.
Alongside Hickey, Clare and drummer Chris Patterson, Lant formed his eponymous solo band Cronos in 1988. The project released three albums: 1990's Dancing in the Fire, 1991's Rock n' Roll Disease and 1995's confusingly titled Venom. That same year, the classic Venom lineup reunited, prompting a permanent hiatus from Cronos (the band).
Venom were forced to take another break when Lant was injured in a 2002 climbing accident, which left him unable to sing or play for almost two years. They reformed, although Mantas declined to rejoin amidst pursuing his new project Zero Tolerance. The following year, Lant appeared on Dave Grohl's metal side project Probot's self-titled album.
Since reuniting, Venom have released seven additional records, for a grand total of 16 LPs — the most recent being this year's Into Oblivion, their first in eight years.

American singer, songwriter and producer Chelsea Cutler released her latest album IS THIS THE END? in September, and now she's announced a 2027 headlining trek in support of the project.
The outing will kick off in Florida at the end of January. She'll play several US dates March, as well as a lone Canadian gig at Toronto's History on February 16.
Presales begin October 6 at 10 a.m. local time, followed by general on-sale on October 9 at 1 a.m. local time.

Canadian princess of pop and fellow member of Carly nation Carly Rae Jepsen has announced a headlining Canadian/US tour in support of this year's double album Day and Night.
The tour will begin next spring with three Canadian dates in Edmonton (April 15), Calgary (April 16) and Vancouver (April 18). After multiple US shows, she'll bookend the trek with three more gigs in her home country: Toronto (May 25), Ottawa (May 28) and Montreal (May 29).

The sexual assault charge against Trailer Park Boys actor Mike Smith has now been dismissed.
As Global News reports, the trial concluded in Dartmouth, NS, today, where the Crown told the judge that it wouldn't submit any evidence in the matter. The defence moved for the charge to be dismissed, and the judge granted it.
Last October, Smith was charged in relation to an alleged assault dating back to December 2017. Back in February of this year, he pleaded not guilty. Smith had stepped away from his role at Trailer Park Boys Incorporated, which handles the business operations related to the TV franchise, in light of the allegations.
"The court has dismissed the charge against Michael Smith, concluding the legal proceedings that began in October 2025 regarding an allegation dating to December 2017," the company said in a statement sent to Exclaim! via email. "Now that he is cleared of this matter, Mike is resuming his responsibilities with Trailer Park Boys Incorporated. The company will provide no further comment regarding the concluded proceedings."

Fontaines D.C. are releasing their album Dopamine Chamber on October 16 via XL Recordings, and the day before that, they will host listening parties at Canadian record stores.
Fontaines have confirmed 13 participating stores who will host listening parties on October 15. In addition to hearing the album early, a press release notes that "attendees will have the chance to receive a Dopamine Chamber tote bag containing a poster, die-cut sticker, postcard set, and zine." There are a limited number of totes, which will be handed out that the discretion of the retailers.

As Billboard Canada reports, Universal Music Canada (UMC) staff members are facing layoffs across multiple departments.
The cuts — more than 12 positions held by the company's approximately 205 employees (according to its 2025 annual report), accounting for 6–7 percent of the workforce — were reportedly announced at a town hall for the major record label yesterday (September 29).
Headquartered in Toronto, UMC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Universal Music Group (UMG), with additional offices in Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary that are also impacted by the layoffs. According to Billboard Canada, positions in communications, A&R, marketing, label partnerships and admin were cut — and senior roles weren't spared, with at least one employee with a vice president title and one with a senior manager title being affected.
The layoffs are said to have been made for cost-cutting and restructuring purposes.

Calling all dads! While you might already be aware that U2 are releasing Carnaval de Luz on November 13, midlife worlds will be colliding when Third Man Records releases its own vinyl variant.
The opaque yellow variant will be available across independent record stores, and can also be pre-ordered online, along with other vinyl issues and digital formats.
The packaging for Third Man's version features the album art sketched in black and white over the record company's signature yellow.
Carnaval de Luz will be U2's 16th album and will be released to celebrate the band's 50th anniversary, as they formed in 1976. It will include the previously released single "Street of Dreams," which both my dad and my friend's dad called me out for writing a haterade piece on.

Friends of Jack White and enemies of Charley Crockett, Satanic doo-wop duo Twin Temple are gearing up to release their new album, Doomed Lovers (out October 9 via Pentagrammaton Records), and have now announced the expansion of their existing North American headlining gigs into early next year — when they'll make a new Canadian stop in Toronto.
In addition to an upcoming Vancouver performance at the Vogue Theatre early next week (October 5), the pair will return to Canadian soil at the beginning of March after kicking off the new leg of the Doomed Lovers: Resurrection Tour on February 19 in Salt Lake City, UT. Twin Temple will take the stage at Toronto's Opera House on March 2 before completing the remainder of the trek stateside, with things currently scheduled to wrap up on March 20 in Los Angeles, CA.

UK art rockers Tara Clerkin Trio are headed stateside this winter.
The trek across the US and Canada starts January 8 at Washington, D.C.'s Songbyrd. From there, the band will hit much of the US South and Pacific Northwest, before hitting up Fox Cabaret in Vancouver on January 23.
Following a brief stint back under the border, the trio will head back to Canada to play Toronto's Longboat Hall and Montreal's La Sala Rossa on January 31 and February 2, respectively. After a few East Coast dates, the tour will terminate in Brooklyn at Pioneer Works on February 6.

Outkast haven't released an album since 2006, and they've been inactive since their reunion tour wrapped up in 2016. But now they're teasing something with US breakfast chain Waffle House.
Outkast and Waffle House posted an image on Instagram, showing a sign reading "Gator Belts and Patty Melts" — a lyric from their Stankonia hit "So Fresh, So Clean."
It's captioned with the date October 2 (this Friday) and emojis of a waffle and an alien.
It's worth noting that Outkast's André 3000 has said he doesn't want to rap anymore. "Sometimes it feels inauthentic for me to rap, because I don't have anything to talk about in that way," he said back in 2023. "I'm 48 years old. Not to say that age is a thing that dictates what you rap about, but in a way, it does." Now that he's a new-age flautist, we probably shouldn't expect Outkast to drop an entire breakfast-themed album or anything like that.

With their forthcoming new album Squirm set to arrive via TODO Records on Friday (October 2), Austin, TX-based masked menaces TEAR DUNGEON have announced a sprawl of North American tour dates through October and November supporting the project — including a pair of Canadian stops in Toronto and Montreal.
The punk quintet will be out for blood on the road starting with a hometown show on October 9. From there, TEAR DUNGEON will be making their way across a predominantly American landscape, making a lone venture across the border into Canada in early November to perform at Toronto's Dance Cave (November 4) and Montreal's Toscadura (November 5) before they return stateside, with the Squirm tour slated to wrap on November 22 in Houston, TX.

Boyhood's Caylie Runciman's new album, I'll Dream InStead, is arriving next month (out October 23 via Hand Drawn Dracula), and now she's mapped out a handful of new US and Canadian dates taking place this November in celebration of its release.
The I'll Dream Instead Tour will begin in Ottawa on November 5 at FONO HiFi Lounge. A day later (November 6), she'll play Montreal's Casa del Popolo before heading to the US for a run of shows. She'll return to Canada toward the end of the month to play Windsor's Meteor on November 17 and Toronto's Dina's Tavern on November 18.

Blending genres like jazz, bossa nova, samba and grungy rock with bilingual lyrics, Brooklyn, NY-based singer-songwriter Mei Semones has been growing a captivated audience with her idiosyncratic sound. Now, she's announced her forthcoming sophomore album Howl (out January 15 via Verve Records / Interscope Records), as well as an accompanying North American tour, which will bring her to Canada for gigs in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.
The stint on the road kicks off on February 24 in Boston, MA. Before the end of the month, Semones will venture across the border into Canada for performances at Montreal's Fairmount Theatre (February 26) and Toronto's Concert Hall (February 27), with aron! on deck for support.
After weaving her way across the US for much of the following months, the musician will return to Canadian soil near the end of April to play Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom (April 27) ahead of finishing the run stateside, with things slated to wrap up on May 8 in Pittsburgh, PA.
Tickets go on general sale tomorrow (October 1) in some markets, while others will be in presales until Friday (October 2) at 10 a.m. local time. Check out the full routing below, and Concert Central for more upcoming Canadian shows.

Evan Redsky has shared a new single named after the Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School in Kenora, ON, in observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. He's also mapped out a run of fall tour dates across Ontario and Quebec, with detours to Tennessee and Alberta later in the season.
Redsky shared of "Cecillia Jeffery" in a statement:
Three generations of my paternal family attended the Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School in Kenora, ON. The same residential school that Chanie Wenjack attended and was written about in the late Gord Downie's Secret Path. I started writing this song quite a few years ago and never quite found the strength to record or share it until now. It's a tough one to sing about from a deeply personal place. Having recently spent the last year in sobriety has truly given me the space I needed to share this one. Embracing all the scars and learning how to love myself one day at a time, as they say. I just hope it resonates with anyone in need of a bit of medicine. That's all this is to me now: a channel, or portal for the spirit to reside.

Indie rockers feeble little horse were set to start the North American leg of their tour in support of bitknot in early October, but the outing has now been postponed until January.
As per a post on the band's socials, guitarist Sebastian Kinsler broke his elbow after falling off his bike, and needs the next month to recover before their European leg begins in November.
The affected Canadian dates are Toronto and Montreal, which will move from October 11 and 12 to January 30 and February 1, respectively.
All original tickets will be honoured, but refunds are available at the point of purchase. A new support act has not yet been announced.

London, UK-based siblings Will Gao and Olivia Hardy have announced that they'll be embarking on a North American tour next March supporting Nocturne — their debut album as the classically informed pop duo Wasia Project. They'll make two Canadian stops in Toronto and Montreal.
The North American leg of the Nocturne tour kicks off on March 2 in San Francisco, CA. During the latter half of the trek, Wasia Project will cross the border into Canada to perform at Toronto's Danforth Music Hall (March 16) and Montreal's Fairmount Theatre (March 17) prior to wrapping up stateside on March 24 in Brooklyn, NY.

Omar Souleyman was due to play Montreal and Toronto next month, but he's now delayed both shows to April 2027 due to "unforeseen visa delays."
The Syrian singer had been scheduled to play Montreal's S.A.T. on October 2, followed by Toronto's Concert Hall on October 5.
The Montreal gig has been postponed to April 10 at the same venue, while the Toronto one has been moved to Lee's Palace on April 9.
Tickets for the original event will be honoured at the new dates. Refunds are available up until October 13.
These are the artist's only North American shows currently booked, since the US has a travel ban on certain Middle Eastern countries, including Syria.

Actor Michael Shannon and his indie musician pal Jason Narducy have become rather notorious for holding a torch for R.E.M. — in fact, it's become an almost-annual thing for them to go on tour together and perform a classic IRS Records-era instalment of the band's catalogue.
Next year will be no different: Shannon, Narducy and friends will be making the rounds in North America to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Document, including a lone venture to Canada early on in the trek to play Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom on February 9. The remainder will take place in the US, slated to wrap up on May 15 in Richmond, VA. Who knows — members of R.E.M. have been known to make the odd appearance!

St. Patrick's Day is coming early, as Dropkick Murphys have announced a North American tour across the US and Canada early next year, with friends Home Front and Spiritual Cramp joining them at every show.
The St. Patrick's Day Tour will begin in Albuquerque, NM, on February 5. Throughout the two-month trek, the band will play multiple Canadian shows, beginning at Vancouver's PNE Forum (February 12).
Their Canadian dates will expand to include Penticton's Trade and Convention Centre (February 13), Calgary's Grey Eagle (February 14), Edmonton's Convention Centre, (February 16), Saskatoon's SaskTel Centre (February 17,) two nights at Winnipeg's Burton Cummings Theatre (February 18 and 19), London's Music Hall (February 27), Toronto's Rebel (March 1), Ottawa's History (March 2), two gigs at Quebec City's Capitole Theatre (March 3 and 4) and Montreal's L'Olympia (March 5).
Presale begins tomorrow (September 30) at 10 a.m. local time using the code STPD2027. General on-sale will follow on Friday (October 2) at 10 a.m. local time.

Toronto's municipal election is coming up, and Rush's Geddy Lee has now endorsed Brad Bradford, the former urban planner who has represented Ward 19 Beaches–East York on the Toronto City Council since 2018.
Lee shared his support for Bradford on Instagram yesterday (September 28), writing, "I was born in Toronto and have built a life with my family here. It was always a place I've been proud to call home. But it's changing, and not for the better."
The musician continued, "I'm not one to make public statements about politicians, but I truly fear for the future of Toronto with its current leadership, and believe that Brad has energy, fresh ideas and really cares about ALL of this city's communities."
This caption accompanies a photo gallery of Lee and Bradford — seemingly in matching outfits — chatting amid lush greenery, with the Rush frontman holding tight to his Norwich Terrier, Dottie Wasserman.
Bradford seeks to overtake Olivia Chow as mayor through the aforementioned upcoming election on October 26, having previously contested the 2023 mayoral by-election, where he placed eighth.
Bradford is running as a non-partisan candidate — perhaps fitting, since he's been scrutinized for flip-flopping on his stances over the years, including voting to cut the police budget by $120 million in 2020, but recently pledging to hire 1,000 new police officers in the city without sharing how he'd pay for the measure, estimated to cost tens of millions.
