Since the release of their excellent sophomore album, Shots, in 2008, Vancouver, BC's Ladyhawk have done a bunch of touring and then slowed things down a little, with members breaking off into various side-projects. One such project are Sports, the math-y indie rock band fronted by Ladyhawk drummer Ryan Johnson, featuring fellow Hawk-mate Darcy Hancock, along with former Jaws guitarist Ryan Marshall on drums.

Last year, we reported that Winnipeg, MB power pop dudes the Paperbacks were planning a double LP. While letting time pass often gives artists the ability to pare their work, over a year has passed, and the band's upcoming album is still a double-disc effort, one that boasts 32 tracks.

From Sub Pop to HoZac, a number of record labels have figured out that a great way to showcase a range of artists is by setting up a once-a-month record service through subscriptions. But while those labels showcase dozens of artists, the people at Stones Throw are lucky enough to have one man capable of generating enough content for his own monthly release series: masterful hip-hop producer Madlib.

The self-referential geekery present in the lyrics of Eddie Argos is usually pretty hit or miss in his day job fronting Art Brut. When he's on, he can incite some pretty sweet chuckles, but when he misses the mark, he can come off as a bit of an annoying pest. Now, his merit as a lyricist will really be put to the test with his goofiest project yet, fronting the duo Everybody Was in the French Resistance... Now, with Dyan Valdes of L.A.’s the Blood Arm.

A while back, there was a noticeable dearth of new material from DOOM, the once-prolific rapper. Thankfully, he ended the dry spell with the release of Born Like This earlier this year, and now has the whole world waiting while he works on the second Madvillain record with Madlib. Things get even better with the announcement that DOOM will drop an EP for the Born song “Gazillion Ear” this December. (More after the jump.)

Nine Inch Nails Fans Demand Public Apology After Right-Wing Group Calls Trent Reznor’s Guantanamo Bay Efforts “Pathetic”

Last month, a group of big-name musicians banded together in an effort to raise awareness about the Guantanamo Bay Prison and to urge officials to close the U.S.-run facility. Bands like Pearl Jam, R.E.M., Rage Against the Machine, Billy Bragg and Nine Inch Nails joined the National Campaign to Close Guantanamo, all expressing their disgust with use of the music for torture. Now, a political lobbyist on the other side of the debate has responded, calling the bands’ efforts “pathetic,” and some fans aren’t too happy about it.

In January of this year, producer/composer Jon Brion leant his talents to Of Montreal for An Eluardian Instance AKA the Jon Brion EP. The disc featured Brion's reinterpretations of two songs from full-length Skeletal Lamping, "An Eluardian Instance" and "Gallery Piece," both of which were remixed and overlayed with additional instrumentation. Well, according to a post on Of Montreal's Twitter, the band are planning to work with Brion once again, this time on their upcoming full-length album. Slowly making progress, there's a chance his long and storied musical career may have come to an end.
