Almost all women have a penchant for wearing make-up.

While it may compliment their looks and even make them feel good about themselves, some varieties of make-up that are known to exist are a sure shot turn off for men. In most cases, women seek the advice of their peers of the same sex and end up making blunders with their faces. While it is perfectly acceptable to tone up your face a bit to attract the opposite sex, it is not the best option to treat your face like a painting canvas. We look at some of the biggest make-up mistakes made by women.

1. Heaps of Foundation

‘The more, the better’ certainly does not applies to foundations, powders and concealers. Make-up that is too conspicuous and blatantly caked upon the face tops the list of make-up that men hate. The caked up look not only looks artificial and bland, but also reflects an insecure personality.

2. Uneven Make-Up

No matter how good you are in toning up your face with clever tricks and a plethora of creams etc., it all counts for naught if you don’t even it out with your neck. The whole effort that is invested becomes apparent and only inspires sordid humour and pity.

3. Rosy Cheeks

They might have looked fabulous and chic in the 1960’s or 70’s but the world has moved on and today rosy cheeks just look childish and immature. However, women trying to go futuristic with neons and other striking shades seem no different either.

4. Skinny Eyebrows and Overdone Eyelashes

Over plucked eyebrows is something that looks plain weird and unnatural. Overdone or spidery eyelashes are also not a hit with men and may even scare the bejesus out of some.

5. Overt Eye-Shadow

Many women copy those overt and vivid tones they see on actresses to their eyes without much thought. An eye-shadow colour that doesn’t really go with the skin tone mars the beauty of the most striking feature women have.

6. Botched Lipstick

It is incomprehensible what women are actually trying to achieve when they put on a flaming bright red lipstick on their lips. Surely they get all the attention in the room, but to no apparent avail.

7. The Prostitute Look

When you wear a combination of nearly all the things listed above you get the famous ‘Prostitute Look’. But it is not really something men hate but rather find profoundly funny.

The whole purpose of make-up is nullified if it is too apparent. The art of make-up is keeping it subtle and not letting it be known that it is even there. Make-up that accentuates the features of the face and compliments the skin tone is generally appealing to men. However, going natural is also a look that is adored by many men.

This sets a record-high of a 34.4 percent unemployment rate.

SWS revealed that the unemployment rate as of March this year increased by 10 points from 24 percent, or about 9.7 million adult Filipinos, in December last year and even exceeded the previous record of 34.2 percent in February 2009.

Of the 34.4 percent unemployed, which included those who are 18 years old and above who are not working and are looking for work, 15 percent voluntarily left while 10 percent are laborers whose contracts were not renewed.

Moreover, six percent of the unemployed were comprised of Filipino adults who never worked before, two percent whose employers closed, and one percent who were laid off.

Jobless rate was relatively high among women and the youth, the survey revealed.

SWS showed that 43 percent of the female respondents were unemployed as compared to 27.6 percent male.

Also, 55.9 percent of respondents aged 18 to 24 said they are not working and are looking for work while only 45.4 percent of those aged 25 to 34, 21.7 percent of those aged 35 to 44 and 30.8 percent of those aged 45 and above said so.

Majority of the respondents expressed pessimism in their work status as 33 percent said they think there would be no change in job availability in the next 12 months, 25 percent said there would even be fewer jobs while 26 percent said there will be more jobs available.

Responding to results of the SWS survey, Presidential Communications and Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma told BusinessWorld, where the survey was first published, that the government will proceed with its labor programs.

"We continue to exert greater efforts to generate more employment opportunities," Coloma said.

Hangover food

Urgh. You might be thinking; food is the last thing on my mind. However, it is better to eat something than to leave your vodka-induced stomach screaming out in hunger and pain. Read these following food tips to increase your energy, improve your concentration and to provide, if not complete soberness, a facade of complete health.

Banana

Why not take the most natural hangover cure in the form of a banana. A banana is not only easy to peel but it contains natural sugars, called fructose, which help your body with energy. It also has good amounts of potassium, which is a mineral that gets depleted when you drink excessively. Bananas contain antacids which can help your nausea and stomach pains – so if you’re planning a big boozy night out stock up that fruit bowl!

Ginger tea

If you really feel you can’t stomach food and you’re feeling really nauseous, grate some fresh ginger into a mug of boiling water. Ginger has been proven to settle the stomach and soothes the symptoms of drinking alcohol, so after a seriously heavy night out on the town get out a sprig.

Extra strong mints

This is a must. After brushing your teeth the minty fresh taste only lasts so long and, while a smell of alcohol might be a friendly reminder of the night, it’s a big no for working time, so banish that beer breath.

A woman with a hangover

Hangover medication

Herbal remedies can be just as effective as painkillers. Try not to pump your system full of unnecessary products; you did enough of that last night. Herbal remedies can help soothe your aches and pains.

Herbal remedies

Evening primrose oil can help reduce stomach and liver discomfort. Another option is that of the thyme hot drink; pop a couple of thyme leaves in hot water with a drop of honey, as thyme helps soothe tense and tired muscles and will help you say goodbye to any stomach problems you might be having too.

Ibuprofen

If that headache is determined to give you grief, Ibuprofen painkillers kick in soon after you take them. Also, keep topped up with your water in between doses. The simple explanation for alcohol-related headaches is that you are dehydrated; ethanol, a toxic component in alcohol, triggers frequent urination, which results in dehydration.

Masking the appearance of a hangover

Let’s be honest, you could have eaten and drank the right stuff all day but if you still look dodgy on the outside everyone in the office is sure to catch on, so keep them in the dark with these next tips.

Remove the evidence

When you get home, no matter the time, get rid of that makeup and apply a thin layer of moisturiser. The moisturiser will help hydrate your face while you sleep, and taking your makeup off the same night will leave you one less job to do in the morning when you can barely open your eyes.

Splash of cold water

Before you do anything in the morning, splash your face with cold water as this temporarily tightens pores and is a great way to wake up quickly, especially after an hour’s sleep. This will help you get ready with a clear mind for the day ahead.

Dry shampoo

Dry shampoo can be a little lifesaver in moments of dire panic. No one wants to be caught sporting the grease monkey look so spray on some dry shampoo. A warning, though: do not go mad with the spray. If you’re not careful – especially brunettes – your roots will turn a fetching white colour, so rub it in well!

Puffy eyes

To disguise your puffy eyes use the good old cold tea bag trick to reduce the swelling; this will minimise the whispering in work and make you feel fresh and ready for your gruelling day at the office.

Don’t go too heavy with the makeup

It will be a bit odd if you heavily paint on your makeup in a Kate Winslet Oscar style. Your skin might be dry so avoid the powdery foundation because it might cling to the dry skin on your face. Instead, just apply a layer of moisturiser; keeping your skin and body hydrated is a must.

Oetzi, the 5,300-year-old "Iceman" mummy of the Alps, lived for some time after being shot in the back by an arrow, scientists said on Tuesday after using forensic technology to analyse his preserved blood.
Contrary to a leading theory, Oetzi did not expire immediately from his wounds, they reported in the Journal of the Royal Society Interface, published by Britain's academy of sciences.
Scientists led by Albert Zink of the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, southern Germany used nano-scale methods to probe the oldest blood known to modern science, preserved by thousands of years of alpine chill.
Using a so-called atomic force microscope able to resolve images just a few nanometers (billionths of a metre) across, they identified corpuscles with the classic doughtnut shape of healthy blood cells.

Apple is investigating claims the new iPad is prone to overheating when it is held a certain way.

Online forums have been hit by complaints that Apple's latest big release becomes too warm when it is held in the bottom left hand corner while the iPad is in portrait mode.

Users are now questioning if the iPad is prone to major overheating.

Users on Apple's forums, as well as popular tech website like Cnet and Mashable say they're concerned it may become a serious problem.

"Just got my new iPad. I'm loving the screen and speed but there's something weird about it. It gets rather warm/hot after 30minutes of usage. It has never happened on my iPad 2. Do you think it's harmless or .... ?", one user said.

Another concerned user said his sons couldn’t use the iPad.

"My little boy says its too hot to hold - (Great !) but seriously its not comfortable and I will be returning to the store".

If the problem becomes widespread, we could be seeing a repeat of the infamous 'antennagate' saga that affected users of the new iPhone 4.

Upon its release in 2010, users found the phone's signal would drop out when the phone was held a certain way.

The problem was eventually traced to the metal casing on the phone, and Apple was forced into an embarrassing apology.

Apple eventually agreed to provide angry users with a special case which fixed the problem.

If Apple faces a similar situation with its newest product, it will be the first major crisis for the company under new CEO Tim Cook.

"I've hated jobs too for different reasons. But when I felt like crying at the thought of going into the office and had that Sunday night feeling every night, when I stopped sleeping and started losing weight. I knew I had to do something," she adds.
Ruth, an HR consultant, has 20 years' experience and knows how having a job you loathe can eat you up, both from her own bitter experience and from that of her clients.

"We should all expect to have elements of any job that we don't enjoy, find boring, even dread doing a bit. But realistically that should not be more than 30% of our job," Ruth explains.
From poor working conditions, to plain old boredom, irritating or demanding colleagues, lack of job security, a shattering daily commute, uncompetitive pay and a total lack of interest in what you do, day in, day out, it can all have a negative impact on your work-life happiness - or rather unhappiness.

The fact is that being stuck in a job you hate with a vengeance is detrimental not only to your job satisfaction levels, career progression and general happiness, but ultimately your health and your wealth.
Workplace stress-related symptoms are very real and can affect all aspects of your physical being, from emotional to mental and behavioural problems.

Over-drinking, over-eating and over-spending can all be symptoms of living with a job you loathe, as you seek ways to reward yourself and make yourself feel better.
And left unchecked these symptoms can lead to serious health and wealth problems, from alcoholism to debt-related problems and even the breakdown of relationships with family and friends. In the worst case scenario it can lead people to seek help for mental illness.
And it is a real problem. Private healthcare group BUPA, says workplace stress affects one in five working people, making it the biggest cause of sickness in the UK.

It estimates that more than 105 million working days are lost each year because of work-related stress, and it says that nearly half a million people in the UK alone genuinely lay the blame for their illness or ailments on work-related stress.
As Ruth says: "It can become detrimental to our health - both physically and mentally - to our relationships, and worst of all to our confidence.

Doing something we hate will mean we are not doing it well, and if this continues for too long our performance will suffer and we will become defined by it.
"This can lead to a poor career prognosis and may even blight the rest of your career so just like a health issue, you do need to give it serious consideration."
It's a well known fact among the medical profession that extreme and prolonged periods of stress have very real, physical side-effects.

These can range from stomach ulcers and crippling back pain to, at the even more serious end of the spectrum, an increased risk of heart attacks, nervous disorders, and psychological problems.
So what can you do if you find yourself in this sort of rut? The first step is to work out exactly what is causing you the most unhappiness and dissatisfaction. Ruth says: "Try to understand why you hate your job so much. Speak to friends or colleagues or even your boss.
"Is it because of the type of work, the culture, the hours, and your colleagues or perhaps it is because you find it difficult? Often there is an easy solution right under your nose.

"Look for solutions in the workplace to make things feel better. If you don't get on with your boss, ask someone you respect to mentor you and act as a sounding board."
And talk to other people at work. Ruth says you could find they're in the same position as you. "Make friends and socialise with work colleagues. Often others can feel the same and a problem shared is a problem halved," she says.
Then make sure that your hatred of work doesn't start eating into your personal life.

This means taking time to consciously 'switch off' from work. During the working day, take regular breaks and get away from the workplace, even for 10 minutes. Go for a walk round the block or read a good book. Do something you love in your spare time and give your mind and body a complete break from the daily grind.
As well as your mental well-being, it's also important to take care of your body and general health. Stress can adversely affect our immune systems, making us more prone to illness, so eating well and trying to get as much normal sleep as possible is important.

A definite no-no is turning to drink as a form of escape. Ruth says avoid self-medicating with alcohol, cigarettes or drugs.
And as she also says, try to keep it in perspective. "Remember that a job is a job. No matter how important it is to be earning, staying in a job we hate longer term can have such a detrimental effect on our whole life it is never worth it.

"Think of it as a bad marriage. It's something that will get worse the more you avoid dealing with it."
If that's you, then it could be time to dust off your CV and start looking at other opportunities. "Look for another job and take control of your future.

But take care to choose the right job in the right organisation. Ask lots of questions about the culture - before you sign on the dotted line," advises Ruth.

It may come as something of a surprise, but food allergies may not be as common as you think. The term food allergy is often used to describe any adverse reaction that happens after eating a particular food.

But just one to three per cent of adults and up to eight per cent of children are estimated to have food allergies in the UK.

Food intolerances though, are much more common. Some surveys have suggested that between 20 to 30 per cent of people have suffered from a food intolerance, but this figure may be as high as 46 per cent, according to health charity Allergy UK.

During Food Allergy and Intolerance Week (23 - 29 January), here's a guide to how food allergies and food intolerances differ.

Food Allergy

A true food allergy occurs when the body makes a specific immune response against a particular food protein. The culprit protein, or allergen, triggers an immune response which involves the production of IgE antibodies and the release of histamine from mast cells.

This reaction occurs within minutes to a few hours of coming into contact with just tiny amounts of the offending food, causing symptoms such as a red, itchy rash, shortness of breath or wheezing, runny eyes and nose, swelling lips and throat, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhoea and vomiting.

In some cases, the allergen can trigger an extreme reaction, known as anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening, nuts being a typical examples of this.

Although you can be allergic to any kind of food, around ninety per cent of food allergies are caused by allergens found in milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts (e.g. walnuts, hazelnuts and brazil nuts), fish, shellfish, soya and wheat.

Children often outgrow allergies to milk, eggs and soya, but allergies to peanuts, shellfish and fish are more likely to persist later in life.

Developing allergic symptoms within a short time of eating one food means that people quickly suspect they might have an allergy, but sometimes it's not so easy to pinpoint what's causing the allergic reaction.

A single allergen can cause a person to be allergic to a number of foods within a food group; for example, someone with a peanut allergy may also be allergic to other legumes such as beans or lentils.

And you can be allergic to more than one food allergen, which is why it's important to see your GP if you think you have a food allergy. They can refer you to an allergy clinic where they carry out skin and blood tests which can help to identify the allergens.

The clinic may conduct a double blind placebo controlled food challenge, regarded as the gold standard method for diagnosing allergies, where the person is given a number of foods, including the suspect one. Because of the risk of anaphylaxis, this must only be carried out in clinics with experienced staff.

Food Intolerance

Unlike a food allergy, the symptoms of a food intolerance - which can include nausea, bloating, abdominal pain and diarrhoea - are not linked to an immune reaction.

The symptoms of a food intolerance are usually more variable than those of a food allergy, are rarely life-threatening and take longer to develop after eating the food involved. However, it can still make your life miserable.

With a food allergy, coming into contact with trace amounts of the offending food can trigger a reaction, but with food intolerance, this may be dose-related, so a person can eat small amounts of a food without consequence, but greater amounts may cause problems.

Unlike a food allergy, food intolerances have multiple causes, which are often - but not always linked to the digestive system.

Milk, lactose, gluten, wheat, food additives and some naturally occurring compounds in foods are common causes of food intolerance.

Lactose intolerance, which affects around five per cent of people in the UK, is caused by the body not producing enough of the enzyme lactase, needed to break down the sugar lactose which is found in cow's milk. This prevents the sugar being absorbed into the bloodstream.

Caffeine, cheese, and chocolate are also known migraine triggers for some people.

Others are affected by food preservatives and additives such as the artificial colourant tartrazine, aspartame, sulphites, metabisulphites, benzoates, salicylates and monosodium glutamate.

Coeliac disease, often mistakenly referred to as gluten intolerance, is triggered by food containing gluten, which can trigger the immune system to attack the intestine. This condition can also have symptoms similar to those of a food intolerance. According to charity Coeliac UK, as many as half a million people in the UK may have the condition, but remain undiagnosed.

The range of symptoms, their similarity with other health conditions, their multiple causes and lack of proven and reliable diagnostic tests, makes most food intolerances difficult to diagnose.

The only way to identify the suspect food is through a process of elimination, where various foods are excluded from the person's diet, then individually introduced to pinpoint the cause of the symptoms.

This should not be undertaken without the help of your GP and/or registered dietician. It can be complicated as the culprit food substance may be present in other, unexpected foods.

Excluding entire food groups can lead to a nutrient deficiency which may leave you feeling worse than before.

There's something strangely romantic about the idea of sleeping in an igloo. Yes, even though it's bound to be a trifle nippy, the thought of curling up for the night in an ice hotel has most of us hooked. I was lucky enough to visit Montreal's brand-new Snow Village and slept soundly in an icy room with snow on the floor and flowers frozen into the walls. Most ice hotels tend to close around the end of March/April, so take a look at these six beauties and start planning a super-cool stay now.

Launched this year, this new kid on the icy block is a little different from most other ice hotels as it's the only place in North America to get your urban igloo cool on. The Montreal Snow village is in the heart of the city in Jean Drapeau park, just a few minutes brisk walk away from the metro. Check out the hockey-themed room with its ice statue of a player at the end of the bed, and stadium seats.

The death toll from the cyclone disaster that swept the southern Philippines has jumped above 900, a senior government official said Tuesday, as cities prepared mass burials for the victims.

Authorities in the port cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan, on the island of Mindanao, where sleeping families were swept to sea from coastal slums, said unclaimed corpses piling up in mortuaries were posing health risks and had to be interred.

The head of the government disaster monitoring council said 927 people were now known to have been killed by tropical storm Washi, which brought heavy rains, flash floods and overflowing rivers to Mindanao.
The death toll is expected to rise even further as more floating bodies are recovered after sunrise, said Benito Ramos, head of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

Ramos's latest toll was a sharp increase from the council's previous figures of 662 dead and 82 missing issued just hours earlier. The Philippine Red Cross, which is doing its own tally, reported 713 dead and 563 missing.

"They (the dead bodies) were washed out to sea. They were underwater for the first three days but now, in their state of decomposition, they are bloated and floating to the surface," Ramos told AFP.
"The death toll will rise again (in the morning) when more bodies surface."

The huge death toll came as government relief workers recovered more bodies from Mindanao, particularly Cagayan de Oro and Iligan, which have borne most of the deaths from Washi.

A British national was among those killed by the storm, Britain's Foreign Office said on Monday.
Whole villages perched on sandbars or on the shores of rivers were washed away when Washi struck Mindanao and nearby areas over the weekend, bringing a month's worth of rain in a 24-hour period.

The disaster area, located about 800 kilometres (500 miles) from the capital Manila, is normally bypassed by typhoons that ravage other parts of the far-flung Philippine archipelago every year.

As a result, many residents were caught by surprise when floods suddenly hit their homes in the dead of night, before dawn on Saturday.

More than 88,000 people have been displaced by the storm with over half of them huddled in crowded, makeshift government evacuation centres, the disaster management council said.

Teresita Badiang, an engineer at Iligan mayor's office, said the city had begun constructing two concrete communal tombs where cadavers would be placed side by side "so that their burial will be dignified."

In Cagayan de Oro, where the disaster council placed the death toll at 336, Mayor Vicente Emano said a mass burial would be held within the week.

Dr Jaime Bernadas, the department of health's director for the region, said cadavers were still being processed prior to "temporary burial" in the city.

Health officials were taking DNA samples and photographs of victims.
Dr Eric Tayag, head of the national epidemiology centre in Manila, said the government was taking steps to prevent outbreaks of cholera, dysentery, dengue and respiratory problems particularly in congested evacuation centres.

"Around 10 days after this flooding there might be an epidemic of water-borne diseases," Tayag warned on television.
President Benigno Aquino is set to visit the stricken zone on Tuesday after ordering a review of the country's disaster defences.

Getting a full accounting of the dead and missing is difficult as most of the victims were "informal settlers" -- a term typically used for slum squatters and internal migrants who are often unregistered by authorities.

Authorities likened the impact of tropical storm Washi to Ketsana, one of the country's most devastating storms which dumped huge amounts of rain on Manila and other parts of the country in 2009, killing more than 460 people.

We women are our own worst enemies. We beat ourselves up over things that we think make us losers in the game of life, particularly in the bit of it that involves catching and keeping men. Most of the time though, we may be wasting our energy. While we're busy worrying about the three pounds we gained last month, he's wondering whether you'll let him finish the prawn crackers. Not because he's an oaf, but because he likes you a lot more than you like yourself sometimes.

1. You've gained weight since you met

If the average man had a pound (£) for every pound (lb) that his girlfriend had gained in the last year, he'd have… well, no idea whatsoever. Even if he had noticed that she'd put on a bit of weight, the chances of him actually minding are as slim as a clothes hanger.

The media may have its ideal of long, toned limbs, but in real life men like all sorts of shapes - and different men have different tastes. You don't have to look far to find boyfriends moaning about how their girlfriends are less sexy when they go on diets.

Men love women's bodies, and your man loves yours. He also loves seeing it naked, and he'd much rather sleep with a confident curvy girl than with anyone who loathes her body, whatever shape it's in. He'd also much rather have the curvy girl round for dinner – standing in the supermarket queue with a selection of macrobiotic food for his date won’t make him feel good about you.

2. You slept together on your first date

Most women will tell you that they’re scared of seeming “easy” if they have sex on a first date, and that no man ever respects a woman he sleeps with on the first night. But speak to most men and they'll tell you that their thoughts are far less sinister than that. They either like a girl or they don't, and having sex on a first date or a fifth date is not necessarily going to change that.

Make up your own mind about sex on a first date, rather than trying to read his mind. Don't do it if it makes you uncomfortable and you’re likely to regret it the next day. Certainly don't do it out of some insecure need to hang onto him. Sex should be about you both enjoying yourselves, not about guilt and emotional guesswork.

3. You talk too much

Some of us hate the way that we turn into babbling lunatics when we're talking to men we fancy. The more we talk, the more embarrassed we get, and the more we talk to try and compensate. It's incredible that the poor men ever hang around to let us finish a sentence, let alone 50 sentences before we take a breath.

The truth is that many men hang around because they don't mind our babble. Some even quite like it. They find it interesting and endearing - or at the very least, they're grateful for the chance to shut up and drink their beer while we do all the conversational hard work. A smart single man will also know that babbling is a sure sign that a woman fancies him.

4. You’ve got spots

Fresh, clean skin is sexy. Fresh, clean skin often has a few spots, no matter what age you are. Your man likes your skin in the buff - all of it, including the skin on your face - because it's the “you” that only he gets to see.

Some girls have more spots than other girls, and most girls have more spots at certain times of the month, but in truth, men really don't seem to mind all that much. They'd much rather see your bare skin in the morning than a face dotted with concealer that you nipped out to apply at 6am. (He WILL notice.)

5. What happened with your ex

You think that you need to explain why you broke up, why you're still friends with him, how long ago it happened and why you won't make the same mistakes again, right? He doesn't care. Your past is your past. He may not be too keen if your ex boyfriend still has a key to your front door and comes round every day for a chat, but otherwise he's not going to lose much sleep over it. To him, your ex is that guy who doesn't get to sleep with you any more.
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - About 1,000 asteroids big enough to cause catastrophic damage if they hit Earth are orbiting relatively nearby, a NASA survey shows.

In a project known as Spaceguard, the U.S. space agency was ordered by Congress in 1998 to find 90 percent of objects near Earth that are 1 km (0.62 of a mile) in diameter or larger.

The survey is now complete, with 93 percent of the objects accounted for, astronomer Amy Mainzer of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, said at the American Geophysical Union conference in San Francisco on Tuesday.

Using NASA's recently retired Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) telescope, scientists also found about 20,500 smaller asteroids near Earth.

Previous studies estimated there were 36,000 to 100,000 of these objects, which have a diameter of about 100 meters (110 yards).

"They could still pack quite a punch," Mainzer told Reuters, adding that "any impact is not a very likely event."
But a major asteroid strike could and has happened.

An asteroid or comet between 5 and 10 km (3.1 and 6.2 miles) in diameter is believed to have smashed into Earth some 65 million years ago, triggering global climate changes that led to the extinction of dinosaurs and other animals.

"We know something that big could wipe out mostly all life on Earth," Mainzer said.
Scientists are now using archived WISE observations to home in on potentially hazardous objects whose orbits come within about 4.6 million miles (7.4 million km) of Earth.

So far, there is no plan about what to do if an asteroid was discovered to be on a collision course with Earth.

A number of Mark Zuckerberg’s private photos have been leaked by a web expert who exposed a flaw in Facebook’s security settings.

Zuckerberg, founder of the social networking site, had his personal profile ‘hacked’ after it was revealed that new settings intended to prevent inappropriate pictures could be exploited.

By reporting images that contained “nudity or pornography”, users could access private photos which could then be seen full size and downloaded.

The technique was used to obtain previously unseen pictures of Facebook CEO Zuckerberg, who is seen holding aloft a chicken, as well as several with partner Priscilla Chan. He is also seen with US president Barack Obama and a number of friends at various engagements.

"The bug was a result of one of our most recent code pushes and was live for a limited period of time,” said a Facebook spokesman. “Upon discovering the bug, we immediately disabled the system, and will only return functionality once we can confirm the bug has been fixed.”

“The privacy of our user's data is a top priority for us, and we invest lots of resources in protecting our site and the people who use it,” he added.

The error is a blow for the social network which has come under fire for the information it collects from its users. Facebook has 800 million active users across the globe and is expected to float on the stock exchange next year with an estimated $100 billion (£64 billion) value. Mark Zuckerberg has amassed a personal fortune of $17.5 billion (11.2 billion) after setting up the site in 2004.

Mayweather hints at May showdown with Pacquiao

(CNN) -- Floyd Mayweather has hinted that his long-awaited showdown with Manny Pacquiao could take place in May next year.
In a video message linked from his official Twitter page Mayweather, a five-division world champion and the current WBO welterweight champion, called on the Filipino to make the fight happen.

Pacquiao, who has won titles at eight divisions, recently registered a controversial defeat of Juan Manuel Marquez, stating afterward he was keen to take on Mayweather.

The pair had agreed to fight in March 2010 but it was called off due to a dispute about pre-bout blood tests. Now, Mayweather has called on his rival to sign a contract.

"I've been told May 5 is open," he said. "Losing is in Pacquiao's mind because he lost just last week. He lost to Marquez three times. May 5 is the date, sign the contract, I'm waiting.

"I can't be sitting waiting all day, you want to fight let's make it happen.

I'm here, I'm waiting, what's going on? I can sign today. If I sign today you better sign tomorrow.

"You said you're a clean athlete and you said you'd take the test so let's do it."

The pair have impressive records, Mayweather having won all 42 of his fights while Pacquiao has been victorious in 54 of his 59 bouts.

Sometimes, it’s not the thought that counts – some gifts are just plain awful and should not be given even as a last resort. Christmas provides many opportunities for less than perfect gifts to be shared, such as Secret Santas and restricting price limits. But don’t let this be an excuse to wrap up any old thing; what you give reflects on you, and no one wants to be remembered for their bad taste. Follow these tips for gift-giving glory.

Socks, socks and more socks
Yes, we all need socks – just as much as we need toilet tissue and teabags. But surely, we can manage to buy them ourselves when we need them? Unless there is going to be a sock shortage in 2012 then there really is no need to adorn your friends and family with toe warmers every Christmas. Be a bit more creative and treat your sock suffering friends with foot friendly treats instead. Give the gift of fabulous feet (much needed after the Christmas shopping and parties) with a foot spa. Or for a more purse-friendly option try a Feet Kit from Marks & Spencer for £5, including foot scrub, lotion and feet fizzers for the perfect festive feet.

Cheap isn’t always cheerful
Christmas is a time for giving and, despite being short of cash, you can still make your shopping funds stretch to bag some really great gifts. Being a Scrooge can sometimes leave friends feeling a little unloved so going for the cheapest option isn’t always a good idea at Christmas, especially if they’ve forked out on a lavish gift for you. So instead of heading for the cheap and tacky discount retailers, opt instead for bidding sites or vintage shops – that way you’re getting quality without having to splurge. You can find some real gems in these places, such as jewellery, picture frames, books and antiques. You’ll get that quirky vintage feel, or even a genuine bargain if you find a brand new item. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.

When it comes to cigarettes, alcohol, and junk food,
the focus is often on the impact on health, but not necessarily how it
will affect appearance in the long term. Besides staining your teeth
from red wine or smoke, or putting on a few pounds from excess carbs,
how bad can it possibly make us look?

Pretty bad, according to 42-year-old freelance journalist Anna Magee. She was guest-editing a magazine called Expert Beauty when a surgeon named Charles Nduka commissioned a piece on smoking. He put Magee in touch with Auriole Prince,
a forensic artist who creates digital images of what people will look
like over time based on their lifestyles. While Magee herself has
noticed small signs of aging and has received cheek fillers and Botox
injections, she wondered what she’d look like 10 years from now given
different lifestyle factors.

Prince created three projected images of Magee showing her face one
decade from now after smoking a pack a day, drinking two glasses of wine
a day, and indulging in sugar, cakes, junk food and refined carbs.
Magee posted them on her blog. The results are jarring, but she insists
her project was not merely a scare tactic.

“My hope is simply that
people will see what a huge difference lifestyle can make to the way
you look,’ Magee told us. “Warnings about lung cancer and heart disease,
though real, are not as confronting and immediate as such images, and
if anyone out there is as vain as I am, something like this, I imagine,
would be more powerful at prompting a bit of a lifestyle rethink than
any stats or docs' warnings. I am a health writer and really loathe
wrist-slapping stories so am always looking for surprising and novel
angles and ways of reporting health.”

Stay fit at home
If expensive gym memberships are out of your price range, luckily there are many other ways to get fit for free. Try incorporating exercise into your regular routine through everyday activities such as gardening and housework, and take up a free activity such as walking, running or cycling to stay in shape. For those who fancy taking up an exercise such as yoga or Pilates, it may be helpful to take a few classes to master the basics then you can continue to practice the poses at home for free.

Create a healthy recipe archive
Want to get started in healthy cooking but can’t afford to invest in a good cook book? Thanks to the wonders of the internet you don’t need to shell out any money to build up a collection of recipes. With many websites catering to healthy eating recipes on a budget, you are guaranteed to find something to suit your tastes and price range without having to spend a penny.

Practice deep breathing
It’s free, it’s unavoidable and we do it every day, but did you know that the simple act of breathing could help to boost your health? Research has suggested that yogic deep-breathing techniques can help people more effectively handle depression, anxiety and stress as well as stimulating the lymphatic system to more effectively deal with toxins. Try learning and practicing deep breathing techniques on a regular basis to improve your physical and mental health for free.

Spend time with friends
Spending time with your friends is great for your health, with research suggesting that having a strong social network can help you live longer and reduce feelings of depression and stress. If you think that you can’t afford a social life, there are many ways you can spend time with friends on the cheap. Rather than eating out a restaurant, try taking turns to cook each other a cheap and healthy meal. Alternatively, plan a movie night instead of a trip to the cinema, and stock up on comedy films to boost your endorphins.

Drink lots of water
One of the cheapest and simplest ways to improve your health is by upping your intake of fluids. While there is no definitive guideline for how much you should drink a day, it is important not to wait until you are thirsty to drink as by this time you are already dehydrated. Some of the benefits of drinking more water include increased energy levels, improved digestion, less water retention and a better complexion. Replacing sugary drinks with water will also benefit your waistline and wallet.

Opt for home-grown produce
Getting your recommended daily portions of fruit and veg can sometimes work out expensive, so why not take the cheaper and healthier option and grow your own fresh produce? If you haven’t got green fingers, try to at least buy seasonal produce where possible to cut down the costs, or visit your local farmers’ market to stock up on fresh, cheap and healthy fruit and vegetables and support your local farmers too.

Have a bath
If you fancy a little pampering on the cheap, you can’t do much better than a nice, relaxing bath. While many of us think of bathing as a purely functional activity, soaking in the tub actually has many benefits outside of getting you clean. Taking time out to soak in a hot bath has many psychological benefits for a start, helping to induce relaxation and calm the mind. However, it can also help stimulate circulation and relax sore or tired muscles.

Get more sleep
If you regularly get less than eight hours sleep a night, getting more shut-eye could be one of the best (and cheapest) steps to improving your health. Not only can sufficient sleep help you live longer, boost memory and improve heart health, but lack of sleep has been proven to increase appetite, leading to weight gain, increased junk food consumption and more expensive shopping bills.

Cut back on your vices
Whether you like to indulge in a few too many glasses of wine, are addicted to takeaways, or have a smoking habit, ditching these unhealthy and expensive habits could drastically improve both your health and finances. Cigarettes and alcohol are notoriously expensive, as well as being leading causes of stroke, cancer and premature ageing, so try cutting down as much as you can or, better still, cutting out these vices entirely.

Practice portion control
With restaurant portions getting increasingly bigger, many of us have grown used to eating larger portions than we actually need. This not only puts us at risk of obesity and health problems but it can also add significantly to our shopping bills. Rather than eating until you’re fit to burst, try to stop eating at the very first signs of fullness and freeze any leftovers for another day. If you’re worried that smaller portions won’t keep you going all day, try loading up on low-GI foods such as oats, beans and yoghurt which will help you feel fuller for longer.
Here are five traits that men simply cannot resist.

1. A positive attitude
It’s amazing what looking on the bright side can achieve. In 1937 Author Napolean Hill deemed the effect of positive thinking to be so powerful that he structured his bestseller around the concept and coined the term Positive Mental Attitude, or PMA. Nowadays we’re all too familiar with the notion of PMA and its influence in our achievements, but who knew that having a positive attitude can actually make women appear better looking to men? Psychologist Viren Swami found that pictures of women which came with a list of optimistic personality traits would be rated as more attractive as the same picture with negative attitude traits. Excellent!

2. Confidence
Think of your friend who’s the biggest hit with the boys. Is she the prettiest girl you know? Not always. But she probably knows how to carry herself, smiles a lot, holds eye contact and appears comfortable in all kinds of social situations. The bottom line is if you appear to be happy with yourself then the world, and in this case, men, will usually agree with you. As psychologist Berenecea Johnson-Eanes puts it, confident women are "intriguing and more interesting because they tend not to be burdened by the fear of low self-esteem." And this effect can extend into relationships too: "A confident woman will come to the relationship whole and not in need of confirmation of value from his or her mate. This is one of the most powerful and special characteristics one can offer to a relationship."

3. Curves
“Women with curvy hips and smaller waists are to men as beer is to an alcoholic,” according to Steven Platek of Georgia Gwinnett College, who believes that the modern woman has been “duped into thinking men like very skinny, waify, Kate Moss-type girls,". That’s right, women are meant to have large bottoms, full breasts and grabbable thighs. According to Platek, wider hips are “generally indicative of better overall physical health” and this is recognised by men on a primal level. So, where’s the cake?

4. Her voice
There is a reason why Paris Hilton puts on that artificially high voice; apparently men go weak at the knees at women with a high-pitched voice. Research by David Feinberg found that men perceive attractiveness to increase with the pitch of the woman’s voice, but interestingly, it didn’t matter whether the woman was artificially increasing her voice’s pitch or whether it was natural. Scientists speculate that this is because the pitch of a woman’s voice reflects her size and therefore health. Can that really be it? We say just whisper if you have any doubt about where you fall on the scale.

5. A good sense of humour
This would be one way of putting it, or another might be a woman who laughs at her partner’s jokes. As Psychologist Eric Bressler of McMaster University tactfully puts it “the importance of humour is different for men and women”. In his 1995 study of the role of humour in relationships, Bressler found that men will choose a woman based on her capacity to laugh at his jokes while women tend to go for ‘humour producers’. Goes some way to explaining the womanising charms of Steve Coogan and James Corden then. Anyway, it’s good to know that if all else fails she can just nod and laugh and she’s halfway there.

Source Article:
http://uk.match.yahoo.net/edito/index.php?mtcmk...
Top 10 worst female health habits

From workouts to healthy diets, many of us make an effort to look after ourselves. However, we could be compromising our health on a daily basis without even knowing it. From carrying heavy handbags to wearing crippling heels, here are the top 10 female habits you should try to break.

Wearing heels
More and more of us are opting to wear heels on a daily basis, and this could be bad news for our health. High heels affect our posture, put pressure on joints, and can lead to a range of conditions including arthritis, hammer toes, back pain and tendon injuries – and that’s before you take into account any heel-related accidents! To minimize damage, limit your heels to 1.5 inches for daily wear, and wear insoles to help reduce the pressure on joints.

Carrying a heavy handbag
With the rising number of gadgets and accessories the majority of women haul around, many of us are carrying around several pounds of weight on our shoulders every day. As a result, lots of us are also putting our long term health at risk. While you may not feel the effects right now, lugging around a heavy handbag can lead to serious back problems and neck pain as well as poor posture. Don’t wait until the damage is done – do your health a favour and try clearing out all non-essential items and switching to a smaller bag.

Sleeping in makeup
Most of us have succumbed to the temptation to sleep in our post-party makeup at some point. However, leaving makeup on overnight – along with the dirt and oil that naturally accumulates on skin throughout the day –is a quick route to clogged pores, congested skin and spots. Sleeping with mascara and eye makeup on can also affect your health by causing eye irritation, bloodshot eyes or even infection.

Matching men drink for drink
From networking drinks to first dates and social events, there are many instances when women may feel compelled to keep up with the drinking habits of the opposite sex. However, women not only tend to weigh less than men but they have less body water to dilute the alcohol, which means they tend to get more drunk more quickly. To minimize the risks of alcohol on your health, try to keep within the recommended guidelines for alcohol consumption and alternate alcohol with soft drinks.

Wearing the wrong bra size
It is thought that more than 70 per cent of women are wearing the wrong bra size. However, wearing a badly fitted bra can not only affect the look of your clothes, but research suggests it can cause a range of health problems including back, neck and breast pain, breathing difficulties, poor posture, skin irritation, circulation problems and even irritable bowel syndrome. Rather than guessing your size, make sure you get measured to ensure you are getting the support you need.

Worrying and harboring regrets
Stress is damaging to both our physical and mental health, and women are twice as likely as men to suffer from stress-related disorders, as well as having higher rates of depression and anxiety. While it is thought there may be biological reasons for this, worrying about the future and dwelling on regrets can also add to our problems, with research suggesting that women are more than twice as likely as men to harbor regrets over lost loves and broken relationships.
[See also: 5 symptoms women should never ignore]

Obsessing over appearance
While both genders suffer from body insecurity, many women tend to overly obsess over their idea of the “perfect” body. Research findings published in the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology found that 16 per cent of the normal or underweight women studied believed themselves to be overweight, while a study commissioned by Dove found that 90 per of women wanted to change at least one aspect of their appearance. Body insecurity not only affects our mental health, but it can also lead to physical damage caused by extreme diets, yo-yo dieting, eating disorders and cosmetic surgery.

Emotional eating
While comfort eating affects both genders, research has suggested that men are more likely to reinforce positive emotions with food, while women comfort eat when they’re sad. Women are also more likely to satisfy their cravings with sweet, high calorie foods. Rather than letting your waistline suffer next time you’re feeling blue, try distracting yourself from cravings by doing something you enjoy, or boost your endorphins and health with an uplifting workout.

Not getting enough sleep
Not only can lack of sleep make us look and feel at our worst, but insufficient shut-eye can also lead to increased accidents, calorie consumption and heart disease risk. Unluckily for women, statistics suggest that sleep problems affect more women than men, while a study by the University of Michigan found that women are more than twice as likely to give up sleep to care for others. Unfortunately, sleep has been found to affect women’s blood pressure and mood more than men’s, making it imperative that you do your best to get a good night’s sleep.

Putting themselves last
Not only are women more likely to compromise their sleeping habits to care for children and others, they are also prone to putting their own wants and needs at the bottom of a hectic to-do list of chores and obligations. To avoid running yourself into the ground, learn to sometimes say no to those requests and commitments that are less than essential, and make sure you set aside some “me” time each week to do something enjoyable just for you.

Source Article:
<a href="http://uk.lifestyle.yahoo.com/10-worst-female-health-habits-095153398.html" Women who were dissatisfied with their relationship were more than twice as likely to cheat, and those who felt they were sexually incompatible with their partners were nearly three times as likely.

“All kinds of things predict infidelity,” Dr Milhausen said. “What this study says is that when you put all of those things together, for men, personality characteristics are so strong, they bounce everything else out of the model.

“Taken at face value, this research might seem to just support sexual stereotypes: Women are just concerned about the relationship, and, for men, once a cheater, always a cheater, regardless of their relationship.

"But the caveat is that there are a lot of variants and factors that are not explained here that might impact whether someone cheats,” she added.

Source Article:
http://uk.health.lifestyle.yahoo.net/men-and-women...
