"News For Users" finally moved back "home" recently.

A few years ago we had far to many active projects and therefor ahd to restrict Tiiws.com's services to "Per Recommendation Only".

Tiiws.com finally is active again, former G*Team-Solutions have been merged into Tiiws.com's services. PC Remote and On-site Assistance were the first services re-activated for the public. Same as you experienced in this newsletter/blog ... we took care of a minimum of bureaucracy. Your desire is to have your PC repaired and not ... to fill in forms for hours, right?

How criminals make money from compromised websites

A couple weeks ago, Maxim Weinstein wrote about a trend of websites being compromised because the webmaster’s computer had a Trojan that was stealing FTP credentials for the site. The folks at Finjan recently released a report detailing the operations of a criminal enterprise, Golden Cash, that uses this approach as an integral part of its operations.

Windows 7 RC - First Impression

Windows 7 - For XP users a wonderful improvement, VISTA users will feel like after a successful surgery - simply released. Microsoft: Congratulations for this master peace!

Last night I finally installed Windows 7 RC. My first impression, already during installation - Win 7 is Microsoft's master peace.

It starts already at installation instructions - Microsoft obviously took their time and created an instruction that even a "normal" user can follow without problems. Although the first Beta Release was already in a better condition than Vista ever will be Microsoft even warns about installing the Release Candidate as main OS. RCs are more than less the final product, they are just released to the public in order to eliminate last flaws of the new product.

If you are not 100 % PC-savvy, but still like to take advantage of the opportunity to test Win 7, just follow exactly Microsoft's pre-installation and installation instructions. You will be done in a heart beat and can start enjoying the new feeling.
I created a "dual-boot" system and, already crazy to start with installing, I forgot to disconnect my USB devices. No problem with Win 7 - The "Information Center" informed me friendly about the connected USB devices and provided even links to download the correct drivers from my devices' manufacturer site. I followed the instructions and my devices started working.

The task tray received a perfect work over - no hectic coming and going of hidden task tray icons anymore. You just see the default tray icons, all others are hidden. Clicking the arrow that formerly expanded the task tray allows a small pop-up window to appear, which will show all other running applications that should be down there.
I think it won't be necessary to explain all new features, there are hundrets of reports out there already. In case you haven't read any of them yet, here is a link to one of them.

Themes - comparing to former Windows versions - have improved drastically, although they still won't win a price. But, nothing to worry about, there are these wonderful freelancers taking care of this issue, offering their arts work at locations of additional applications, necessary to install these freelance themes or, at devianART.

UAC - Vista user's nightmare, finally was eased up. Still, if you are a merging XP user, this is a feature you'll have to get used to or ... simply disable it, if you are the only user on your PC or the only one installing software. This feature is useful only for people, who are really not PC-savvy at all.

Botnets have been a fixture of the internet for many years.

Their command and control structures have evolved greatly but their methods of propagation have largely gone unchanged. The recent advent of drive-by downloads have been part of a new transformation in badware, the botweb. This web-only cycle is a result of the profliferation of cheap turn key web hosting which led to massive adoption among novice computer users. The huge population of consumer web masters, untrained in security matters, had the same effect as broadband adoption in the 1990s. Attackers are presented with a target rich environment with minimal security protection or monitoring.

IT security and data protection firm Sophos has published its report on the latest trends in spam, revealing the top twelve spam-relaying countries for the second quarter of 2009. By scanning all spam messages caught in SophosLabs' global network of spam traps, researchers have identified the top 'Dirty Dozen' spam relaying nations between April and June this year.

Finally we can start over ...

After this long silence we finally start over again.

Many things have changed in the meantime:

G*Team-Solutions (Remote Assistance) and Tiiws.com (Web Design, Hosting and Marketing) have merged since both services are "web services"; so ... why not presenting them on one and the same website?

Websites of both services have been dicontinued a while ago, and our informations and services will be offered within this blog, linked separately from our menu to be found in first position on the right vertical navigation pane. This, of course, is not a task that may be accomplished within one day, so please, continue to bear with us and watch the links of our menu.

As you can see at our new header, the first, and possibly most urgent service to be revitalized will be Remote Assistance. This should be accomplished over the weekend.Of course we will continue our non-buraeucratic style. To contact us you will find a messenger window. For security purposes there will be a password generator to be downloaded in order to create a secure connection between your and our PC. Don't get scared ... there also will be a "How to" manual; the entire procedure is extreme simple.

Steve Ballmer can't hear you, so let's turn up the volume

Last week we almost broke out the champagne. At an event in Belgium on Thursday, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said that the company might reconsider its decision to stop selling Windows XP on June 30. An Associated Press report quoted him as saying: "If customer feedback varies, we can always wake up smarter."

This news broke after we spent three months of campaigning for a stay of execution for XP, and we were elated. Microsoft was finally listening to the outcry over the unnecessarily disruptive effects of customers being pushed to upgrade to Vista. Victory was at hand.

Our joy lasted only a couple of hours. According to a subsequent report from Reuters, the second half of Ballmer's quote was: " ... but right now, we have a plan for end-of-life for new XP shipments." A Microsoft spokesperson later confirmed that (aside from already existing exceptions), the June 30 end-of-sale date was not going anywhere.
