Description:
Even amidst adopting informal and social learning strategies, learning management systems (LMS) continue to play an important role in employee training initiatives. These systems provide learners with access to content and provide managers with the ability to track who knows what. In industries that require certification or monitoring of training, no better way exists to ensure that individuals are qualified to do their work than by measuring their skills and knowledge using a learning management system.

Although pundits have been predicting consolidation in the learning management system market for years, the number of products available is at an all-time high. New learning management systems appear each year. How do you pick the right LMS for your organization?

Brandon Hall Research has been helping organizations make the right learning technology selection choices for more than 15 years. We’ve developed tools, technologies, and methodologies that make it easy to compare systems and select the one that best meets your requirements.

Today we’ve moved to a new business model!

Since 1992, we’ve been a publisher of research on the latest technologies, processes and practices in the field of workplace learning and talent management. We’ve produced up to 30 new publications, for many years, on topics that editors thought would be of interest to the corporate learning and talent management markets.

That approach has been hit and miss, so, we decided to do something different.

Our research reports and KnowledgeBases will now be developed for the research firm’s best customers, those who become members of the new Brandon Hall Research Center. The topics for these publications will be based on “membership-driven research,” whereby most research undertaken by the company’s senior analysts will be based primarily on the needs and requests of members. Makes a ton of sense!

We have three levels of membership in the Research Center. I certainly hope I’ll be able to undertake research specifically for you and your organization. More details here.

Description: Knowledge has been defined as a cluster of “actionable information” used to understand or act upon the world. In large organizations, knowledge is stored in the brains of individual employees and in “artifacts” such as books, manuals, files, and databases. These knowledge artifacts are often locked, are difficult to access, or are destroyed soon after they are created. The complexity of business means that knowledge often needs to flow from one person or place to another within the organization, something that is usually very difficult to achieve.

In this one-hour presentation, Dr. Gary Woodill, director of Research and Analysis at Brandon Hall Research, looks at different kinds of knowledge, why it doesn’t flow easily in large organizations, and what steps can be taken to alleviate this problem. He outlines how enterprises can move from a group of individuals working together toward true collective intelligence that will benefit a business even though individual employees may change. Leading technologies and processes for improving knowledge flow will also be reviewed.

Description: Even though it may be hard to define a game, training professionals all over the world are starting to take a hard look at the possible benefits of using learning games within their organizations. But the question still remains: Are games effective in improving learning compared with other methods of training? In this one-hour Webinar, Dr. Gary Woodill, director of Research and Analysis at Brandon Hall Research, will take you on a tour of how various organizations are using learning games in employee training. You will see over a dozen examples of where companies have implemented games as a primary learning method and will learn about what makes a good learning game. In addition, Gary will introduce some of the resources available for you to learn more about educational games. This Webinar is at the introductory level, so no previous experience with learning games is necessary for you to participate.

Some of these have been around for at least 10 years, while others are much newer. Many of the newer learning technologies are just “emerging” on the scene and are likely to be much more disruptive of the way that education and training has traditionally been provided.

In a presentation on June 17, Gary will review past learning technologies, sketch his theory of “innovation lifecycles,” and place the various emerging learning technologies that he has identified on a lifecycle curve to show which ones are now peaking, which are maturing and even declining, and what is in the pipeline that will become available in the next five years. The purpose of the talk is to help both users and vendors gain perspective on the development of learning technologies, glimpse the near future of the learning industry, and make strategic investment decisions accordingly.
