Throughout October, HBRSC is relocating to a larger Simulation Center at 804 3rd Street, Old Town Eureka at the corner of I St. and 3rd St. There is 2-hour street parking as well as metered parking nearby so please plan ahead. The new Center will equipped with three simulation suites, including a trauma room, medical-surgical suite and maternal/child simulation room.

Code Blue at Mad River Community Hospital

HBRSC staff brought iStan, a high fidelity manikin, to Mad River Community Hospital (MRCH) to perform mock Code Blue drills for Day and Night shift nursing, medical and ancillary staff.

iStan fights H1N1 at the Health Fair

Nursing students representing College of the Redwoods will be using iStan, our adult male high-fidelity mannequin, to educate the community about H1N1 influenza and best practices in prevention. Please join us interact with "Stan" and students at the Bayshore Mall Saturday, February 6, 2010, from 10am - 3pm.

Eureka Simulation Training an Earth Moving Experience

Minutes before Eureka experienced a 6.5 magnitude earthquake on January 6, 2010, local nursing faculty, paramedic instructors, hospital managers and educators successfully completed the CINHC Level I Simulation Training at Northern California’s newest grant-funded simulation site, the Humboldt Bay Regional Simulation Center (HBRSC).

Strategically located in Eureka’s Bayshore Mall, HBRSC provides a neutral training ground for the region’s multiple healthcare organizations. Following four years of planning and fundraising, HBRSC opened their doors in August, 2009, to service nursing and paramedic school programs for College of the Redwoods and Humboldt State University. Now entering into Phase II of the business plan, simulation training opportunities are expanding to regional hospitals, emergency medical services, and the local public health department.

With California Simulation Alliance (CSA) experts onsite, participants sharpened debriefing skills, designed scenarios, and expanded their understanding of integrating simulation training and technology for multiple educational goals. Many thanks go to CSA trainers KT Waxman, Becky Damazo, Colleen O’Leary-Kelly and Michael Tijerina for their insight and dedication to simulation education. Their commitment to expanding simulation expertise in healthcare has inspired a pilot research project between Humboldt State University and HBRSC to compare student outcomes using pediatric simulation in BSN nursing education.

Summertime Simulation in Regional Hospials

Following a year of successful integration of simulated clinical experiences into College of the Redwoods and Humboldt State University Nursing curriculum, HBRSC took the simulators on the road to Mad River Community Hospital (MRCH) and St. Joseph Hospital to train and test nursing and medical staff.
