Wow, what an eventful past few months! We've had some big changes here at Jacy Cakes-- the biggest being the sad departure of Cathy to the mystical far-away land of Texas! Cathy's incredible talent, humor, and amazing work-ethic will be missed more than she will ever know! I know that whatever she does and wherever her path takes her, she'll be a tremendous success!!

Speaking of moving-- the Home Base of Jacy Cakes has moved from the beautiful Upper West Side of Manhattan to the even more beautiful borough of Brooklyn! With more available real estate and clientele, expect to see a Jacy Cakes storefront coming soon!!

Because of the move, we haven't been able to upload pictures from the beautiful cakes we've been creating for the past few months, but if you're a fan of Jacy Cakes on Facebook, you've seen a lot of what we've been up to. And if you're not a fan, what are you waiting for?? Join the coolest group of cake fans on the web!

Mini Yankee Stadium Cake

This gluten free cake was a very small representation of the new yankee stadium that was requested for a bride to have at her wedding alongside their traditional wedding cake at the Tides Estate in North Haledon, NJ. Inside was gluten free carrot cake with vanilla buttercream filling.

TV Lover's Birthday Cake

This was a birthday cake for a woman who loves watching the food network in bed with her partner. We made the couple holding hands in bed under a quilt painted to look like the one on their actual bed. On the fondant TV is the food network logo & on the 4 sides of the cake were the logos of her 4 favorite food network shows.

Orchids & Swirls Wedding Cake

This is a 3 tiered wedding cake that featured piped swirls all over the sides, shiny black fondant bands at the base of each tier & orchids to match the decor of the reception. The top tier was vegan madagascar vanilla with raspberry buttercream filling, & the bottom 2 tiers were non vegan madagascar vanilla cake with alternating layers of mocha & vanilla buttercream filling. This was our second time working with Naturally Delicious Caterers at the Galapagos Art Space in Brooklyn, NY.

Zoo Animal Smash Cakes

These were 6 smash cakes for a boy's 1st birthday, all with fondant cutouts of animals that matched the party's decor. The flavors included chocolate cake with cookies n' cream icing,

cardamom-cinnamon spice cake with vanilla buttercream icing,

chocolate cake with chai buttercream icing

and tropical coconut cake with vanilla buttercream icing with toasted coconut on the sides.

This was a gluten free vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream filling or a 40th birthday. It was decorated to look like a racetrack & featured a Q shaped track for the recipient's first initial, the writing on the party invitation & his dream car, a Porsche Cayman.

Fashion Mannequin

This crazy fun cake was for a young lady's 13th birthday & she, being an artist almost from birth, designed this entire cake down to it's last detail! It incorporates her favorite doodles on the corset, her favorite bands on patches around the board & her love of neon colors. The checkered belt had her name spelled out in fondant studs & the diamond outline pendant was lined in Swarovski crystals. Inside, the cake was madagascar vanilla with cookies n' cream buttercream filling AND a layer of chocolate crunchies on top of that!

Jailhouse Rock Wedding

The decoration for this unconventional 3 tiered wedding cake was centered around the couple's 50's/jive style reception held at Little Skips in Brooklyn, NY. It also showed the couple's great sense of humor to incorporate a "jail" theme as a nod to what happened when he proposed in central park- they were held up immediately afterwards!! Thankfully they were Ok & went on to get married this summer :o)

Indian Lace Cake

Last week we created this 3 tier wedding cake with peach colored decorations on the sides of each tier that emulated the Indian lace on the couple's wedding invitation. It also featured some light yellow orchids that the couple requested to go along with the decoration of the event location, Kitti Chai restaurant in NY, NY. Inside the top tier was vegan lemon cake with vegan raspberry buttercream filling. The bottom 2 tiers were red velvet with raspberry buttercream filling.

NY Street Pretzel

We had a request to make a birthday cake to look like a "real street pretzel" & this was the result! Inside was vegan chocolate cake with vegan chocolate buttercream. We added some flair we thought would be fitting in an I love NY pin & mustard packets-with one opened & writing out the birthday message on a fondant napkin.

Super Mario Bro.s Cake!

This 5th birthday cake was for a Super Mario Bro.s fan turning 5! His mother provided us with the plastic action figures & we set the scene with fondant bricks, clouds & a canon. Inside the cake there were alternating layers of madagascar vanilla & chocolate cake, & in between those were alternating layer of vanilla & chocolate buttercream filling.

Cranium 30th Birthday Cake

This was the cake for a surprise 30th birthday dinner at a Mexican restaurant last week. It was for a big fan of board games, especially Cranium, so to sit on top of this die cake we made a customized Cranium Wow game piece. Its wearing a logo t-shirt to represent her love of Weezer & it's sporting a sombrero instead of a party hat because it was a Mexican fiesta! The birthday girl is also a notorious fan of sweets & desserts, so we wanted to make something really different for her. We came up with a cake with alternating layers of chocolate brownie & chocolate chip cookie cake & the filling was madagascar vanilla buttercream with chocolate chip cookie dough pieces. You better believe we sampled the scraps, & we definitely have stumbled upon a new Jacy Cakes favorite!

Swirly Dot Wedding Cake

We made this wedding cake this past weekend for a couple that wanted something simple, but elegant. It had dots piped onto the sides in a swirly pattern with royal blue highlights to incorporate the wedding's main color more than just at the bands. The cake inside was chocolate brownie with cookies n' cream buttercream filling, one of the best combos ever!

Armadillo Cake

This "bleedin' red velvet" armadillo cake with raspberry buttercream filling was a surprise for a rehearsal dinner that took place recently in NY at the Golden Unicorn. This was our first International client, as she came from Canada with her wife to have a second ceremony in NY. All the best ladies!!

Tulip Wedding Cake

The inspiration for this tulip wedding cake was the couple's wedding invitation, which featured loose tulips arranged much like these sugar tulips are going around the center tier of the cake. The top and bottom tiers are decorated with a tulip damask pattern piped on with vegan icing. The flavor of the cake was vegan red velvet with vegan raspberry buttercream filling and it was delivered to the Galapagos Art Space in Brooklyn, NY.

We were so excited to be asked recently to create a cake in a birdhouse theme for their June 2010 issue. We've been waiting until the issue came out to put up pictures, and here they are!

Baby Shower Duck Cake

This baby shower cake was designed after the party plates & napkins which became the theme of the client's whole party. On top there is a stitched baby duck, and inside the cake had alternating layers of chocolate and madagascar vanilla cake with raspberry buttercream filling throughout.

Twin Bar Mitzvahs!

This cake was created to celebrate the Bar Mitzvahs of twin boys, Zach & Jacob. It featured their replicated tennis rackets along with several tennis balls that went around the cake decorated to look like a tennis court. The chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream filled cake was delivered to Slate in NYC.

Sushi Cake

We were asked to recreate a sushi cake the client had gotten previously, except with different sushi pieces on top, to celebrate a 40th birthday. The inside of the cake was red velvet with raspberry buttercream filling. Here are the results including chopsticks, orange caviar sushi & spicy tuna rolls made of sugar :o)

Alice in Wonderland Inspired Cake!

This cake was inspired by Tim Burton's recent interpretation of Alice in Wonderland. It features Absolem, the caterpillar sitting atop a mushroom with his hookah. Underneath that are some shorter mushrooms, "talking" roses, fiddlehead ferns and the mad hatter's hat- all replicated from the movie.

This was Cathy's entry for the sculpted cakes category at the Atlantic Baking Expo this past weekend and there was alot of stiff competition that had us worried! She ended up not placing in this category, but we were completely excited when they announced that she had won Best in Show instead!

In the story of the movie, Alice returns to Wonderland years after her first visit and everything and everyone is older and somewhat tattered by what has happened since Alice left. This accounts for why the faces of the caterpillar and roses look so worn and aged. All of the decorations were modeled out of fondant and gumpaste.

We at Jacy Cakes are huge Tim Burton fans so we

are always happy to get to create something as an homage to his work. Once we saw this movie, there was no doubt that it would be a huge source of inspiration for future cake art projects!

Marriage Equality Wedding Cake

We at Jacy Cakes are avid supporters of equal rights, and we were thrilled to have the opportunity to provide a fantasy wedding cake to be on display at a recent NGLCC NY Shining Stars event for Marriage Equality that took place at Slate in NYC.

We were asked to create an all white traditional wedding cake with a modern twist, along with a double sided topper that had two brides on one side and two grooms on the other.

This topsy turvy cake had piping of the marriage equality logo, highlighted in silver, with swirls & tiny dots on either side of it on alternating tiers. The other tiers were covered in very thin fondant strings. In between the main tiers were separators covered in different sized white roses and rose buds.

The topper featured two beautiful brides, whose dresses were loosely based on what the fabulous Ellen & Portia wore on their wedding day. On the other side of the topper were two grooms wearing tuxedos, one with tails and one without. Between the grooms and brides was a fondant swirl wall which mimicked the swirls on the cake. The fun factor to this cake came into play when we turned on the spinning top tier, giving both couples a chance to be showcased with the front of the cake.

To accompany this cake, we provided 300 vanilla, chocolate and red velvet cupcakes with assorted flavored buttercreams of raspberry, cream cheese, chocolate and peanut butter. These were in the theme of the "Shining Stars" aspect of the event, so they were topped with fondant decorations of champagne bottles, stars, sunglasses, bow ties, pearl necklaces & Wisp Toothbrushes, which were provided in everyones swag bags by Colgate, an event sponsor.

Gluten Free Dahlia Wedding Cake

We recently created this Gluten Free wedding cake for a couple that had their reception at Harvest on Hudson in NY. They asked us to recreate their "Q&M" logo, in addition to a double happiness symbol & wedding birds to go on the cake along with some dahlias. The whole cake has a red & gold color scheme to match the colors of the wedding. We just received their review of this cake & a gluten free cake we delivered to them the week before their wedding & were so happy to read what they had to say!

"Jacy Cakes provided two gluten free cakes for us and they were not only delicious but beautiful. The first was a gluten free chocolate cake with vanilla butter cream and it was for our siblings’ anniversary. The cake was moist which is very hard to do with gluten free flours and the butter cream was so good – nice and fluffy. The decorations:, one dog in a top hat and another in a veil holding a sign; was very detailed. Our siblings loved the cake. The second cake was our wedding cake and we were worried they may not be able to replicate our ‘logo’ in the wedding invitation style, or the wedding birds or the double happiness. BUT, they did and it looked beautiful. The cake was also delicious. This time it was a gluten free vanilla cake with chocolate filling and fondant. Overall we were very happy; they delivered on time to our apt and to the restaurant. We would definitely use them again.

Baptism Cross Cake

This client asked for a very simple cake so that she wouldn't feel guilty cutting into it, but her 1 request was that we replicate the cross party favor she would be giving out at the party to have on the cake. The cross on the cake was made with fondant to look as exact as possible, and it was highlighted with swarovski crystals to mimic those found in the real cross. Here are close up pics of the real cross (on the left) & the fondant replicated cross (on the right).

We heard from the client a few days afterwards & she said the cake was not only delicious, but she was very happy with the overall reaction of her guests, which was that of disbelief that the cross on the cake was not actually a favor that was placed on the cake. We are happy we were able to able to successfully carry out her request!

Beverly's Bake Off!

Beverly's Bake off was a silent bake goods auction and benefit for the National LGBT Cancer Network. It was held at Comix in NYC last week & we were happy to provide a display cake to greet the guests as they came in, along with mini cupcakes & a gift certificate that was up for auction!

The cake was mainly based on the theme of the night & the logo with a 50's baker twist. On top of this topsy turvy cake was an open 50's style oven with some fresh pies inside, and "spilling out" all over the cake were some more baked goods. In the middle of the topsy tiers was a 50's style table top with signature ridged edge. Standing in front of the cake & presenting it is our interpretation of Beverly in her 50's dress, apron, oven mitts and of course, no lady baker is complete without her pearls & high heels!

Strong supporters of LGBT rights & causes ourselves, we were happy to be able to help raise funds for this group. The LGBT National Cancer Network is an organization that works to improve the lives of LGBT cancer survivors and those who are at risk.
