Doug Ruhlin to Speak on Life Cycle Assessment, Environmental Product Declarations, and Sustainable Concrete

Doug Ruhlin of Resource Management Associates will be an invited speaker at the upcoming Kentucky Ready Mixed Concrete Association's Annual Meeting to be held this coming March 21 - 23 in Covington, Kentucky. Doug will be speaking on sustainable practices and a presentation entitled "PCR, LCA and EPDs for the Concrete Industry". This presentation will focus on Life Cycle Assessment and Environmental Product Declarations, and how to take advantage of the the benefits of sustainable concrete.

NRMCA Green-Star EMS Certification & RMA... AGAIN!

At RMA, we're big advocates for the NRMCA Green-Starenvironmental management system program. We're thrilled to hear more and more facilities becoming recognized for their environmental performance. We recently helped several facilities with persuing NRMCA Green-Star certifications, and we just had another opportunity to do the same! RMA has helped United Materials of Buffalo, NY obtain the NRMCA Green-Starenvironmental management system certification in early January, 2013 for three plants - Sanborn, NY, Orchard Park, NY, and Lancaster, NY. United Materials did an outstanding job on the completion of their first cycle of their environmental management system with RMA's help, and obtained the prestigious NRMCA Green-Star certification at all 3 plants. The NRMCA Green-Star certification is obtained after having developed and implemented one cycle of an environmental management system (EMS) which meets all the NRMCA Green-Star requirements.

At Resource Management Associates, we are passionate about concrete, and the concrete industry. We're big advocates for the NRMCA Green-Star environmental management system program, and we're always thrilled to hear more and more facilities becoming recognized for their environmental performance. RMA has assisted Superior Concrete Materials of Washington DC to become the first concrete producer in Washington DC to become NRMCA Green-Star certified. We assisted Superior with the development of an environmental management system (EMS), which has been fully implemented and run through one complete environmental management system cycle, a requirement for NRMCA Green-Star certification. This is Superior's first NRMCA Green-Star certification. Superior has used the environmental management system to make substantial improvements in facility operations, practices, and conditions compared to prior to use of the environmental management system.

Doug Ruhlin to NRMCA Concrete Environmental Certification Course in Orlando, Fl

Doug Ruhlin of Resource Management Associates will be once again teaching the NRMCA's Concrete Environmental Professional Certification Course, this time in Orlando Florida during the week of December 3rd - 7th, 2012. Doug Ruhlin is the primary developer and instructor of the course, which has had well over 1,000 concrete industry environmental professionals trained and certified in a wide variety of environmental and sustainable practices.

Doug Ruhlin of Resource Management Associates has prepared a guidance manual for the Tennessee Concrete Association to assist concrete producers with the newly issued State of Tennessee NPDES Stormwater Discharge Permit for Ready Mixed Concrete Producers (TNG110000). Hurricane Sandy and RMA

The employees of RMA fared well in this storm. None of our employees experienced any loss or tragedy these last few days, and we're extremely greatful for that. In addition, the offices of Resource Management Associates were not greatly affected by Hurricane Sandy, which made a direct landfall not far from our location in Forked River, New Jersey. Our business experienced power and communications outages, but fared well compared to our neighbors elsewhere in the state.

RMA to work with leading NJ computer recycling company Global Computer Pro

Resource Management Associates has entered into an agreement to work with Global Computer Pro of Phillipsburg, NJ to secure appropriate Class D recycling center approvals from the NJDEP. Global Computer Pro is a leader in consumer electronics recycling in New Jersey, and does an outstanding job of complete zero-waste recycling of a wide variety of consumer electronics at their Phillipsburg location, including computers, copiers, phones, and more.

Doug Ruhlin Teaching at NJIT's CIM Program

This past week saw Doug Ruhlin of Resource Management Associates teach two sessions at the New Jersey Institute of Technology for the Concrete Industry Management (CIM) program. On Thursday, September 20th, Doug taught a session on Environmental and Sustainable Principles for the Concrete Industry to a 300 level (junior) level class of CIM students. On Monday, September 25th, Doug led a class of nearly 25 students on a field trip to a busy northern New Jersey ready mixed concrete plant to see environmental and sustainable practices in action at a concrete plant.

Concrete Sustainability Hub Research Day at MIT

September 27th, 2012 marks the annual MIT Concrete Sustainability Research Progress update meeting, to be held on the campus of MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in Boston, MA. Doug Ruhlin and Dennis Ruhlin of Resource Management Associates will be attending. The meeting is sponsored by NRMCA and PCA (Portland Cement Association). At this meeting, the industry will be briefed by MIT researchers working on the concrete science and building technology platforms including life cycle assessment and life cycle cost analysis of pavements and buildings.

As in year's past, Doug Ruhlin of Resource Management Associates will be conducting some classes for Concrete Industry Management (CIM) students at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). Scheduled for the near future will be a comprehensive session on concrete industry environmental and sustainable practices, as well as a field visit to a concrete plant in order to see environmental and sustainable practices and principles live and in action.
