out post is two!

out post sound has reached the ripe old age of two! In our brief history we have ridden with kings on mighty steeds across the devil's plain, we've walked with Jesus and his cross - He did not die in vain - No! We've run with wolves, we've climbed K2, even stopped a moving train, we've traveled through space and time my friends to rock this house again……

No, hang on that 's Tenacious D!

However, we have gone from strength to strength, and worked with some amazing clients and are excited that the end of 2009 and beginning of 2010 has many great projects in the pipeline.

So, for now, we are off to have a party and we will be back and ready for more audio loveliness tomorrow...

out post sound attended the Brighton and Hove Business Awards at the Hilton Metropole Hotel on Friday and won the coveted Best New Business in Brighton award, beating off stiff competition from three other finalists. The category was also the most popular, attracting over 60 entries from a range of diverse companies. out post were commended on their high profile client list, including Twentieth Century Fox, Gold Circle Films, BBC Television and Radio and Channel Five as well as their ability to attract international clients to Brighton.

The event, attended by over 400 people, was hosted by well known stand-up comedian, Steven Grant, and MD Rob Speight was there to collect the award on behalf of out post.

Brighton, a hub for digital media and production, was recently named by HSBC as a Super City in a commissioned report entitled, “The Changing Face of Business in 21st Century Britain,” stated: “Our super cities promise to change the traditional national and regional power bases in the UK because of their proximity to the one thing that does not depend on natural resources: knowledge.”

It is amazing to have all our work validated by such an experienced panel of judges. We would like to thank all of our clients, old and new, in helping to make out post such a success and the best place for film, television and radio post and production audio in the city,” said a very happy Rob Speight.

out post plays the game

out post has been very busy over the last few months completing audio for two major video games. The first, “The Blue Toad Murder Files” from Relentless Software, which is due to appear exclusively on the Sony Playstation 3 and consists of six intriguing episodes. Set in the sleepy village of Little Riddle, the main aim of the game is to follow clues to find the murderer. Along the way players also encounter a variety of different and challenging puzzles which help them move through the peaceful world of Little Riddle. Here at out post, we have recorded all of the audio for all of the characters in the games voiced by the amazing Tom Dussek, who plays both male and female characters. Under the watchful eye of Producer Jade Tidy from Relentless, we have chuckled our way through amazing plot lines and fantastically written dialogue for the last three months.

In a different arm of gaming, that of Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games, out post has had the exciting challenge of designing sound effects for the new online game, Dust 514. The game, from the producers of EVE Online — CCP Games , is the largest online game in the world and earlier in 2009 clocked up a massive 53,850 simultaneous players. out post has created character effects such as running, jumping, footsteps etc as well as many of the games atmospheres and a swathe of explosions. All of the effects have been custom created by out post for the game and we are excited to see them integrated into this massive extension of the Eve Universe in the near future.

out post sound shortlisted for business awards

out post sound has been shortlisted in the Best New Business (or New Kids on The Block) category in the Brighton and Hove Business Awards 2009. out post saw off stiff competition to get into the final four and we are looking forward to the awards ceremony on the 9th of October at the Brighton Hilton Metropole Hotel.

The BAHBA’s website states: “The award for “New Kids on the Block”, sponsored by Royal Mail, remains the most popular category of all and shows that, despite the recession, Brighton is still home to a number of successful start-ups.” With any luck, or at least our wit, charm and good looks we can clinch the award on the night - if only so we can practice our acceptance speech for when we go and collect a BAFTA.

We shall wait to see if we have the right stuff to win the award — and as the New Kids on the Block said themselves, in their timeless classic, ‘The Right Stuff’: “Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. The right stuff.” Pure Class!

out post goes to Hollywood

out post sound has completed work on Kevin Costner’s new feature film, The New Daughter. out post was approached by Gold Circle Films in Los Angeles (producers of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Slither, White Noise) and post production house Sharpe Sound in Vancouver to record ADR for Brighton based actor Noah Taylor (Pirates of The Caribbean, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Tomb Raider), who plays Professor White in the film.

Utilising Pro Tools 8 and Source Connect out post connected to Sharpe Sound and carried out the session under the watchful eye of Director Luis Berdejo. The session was then run in Transport Lock Mode enabling Berdejo to hear every take in sync with the temp tracks on Sharpe Sound’s Pro Tools System.

“This was without doubt our biggest movie to date and it will certainly help to place out post firmly on the map while adding to my continued belief that film post production service providers can exist and thrive in Brighton,” explained ADR recording engineer and Managing Director Rob Speight.

out post sound completes post production on new British feature film.

out post sound has recently completed full post production on a new British feature film: “Too Close To The Truth: 31 North 62 East”. The production, starring John Rhys Davies (Indiana Jones, Lord Of The Rings), Marina Sirtis (Star Trek Next Generation, Crash), Craig Fairbrass (Cliffhanger, EastEnders) and Heather Peace (London’s Burning, The Chase) is a contemporary political thriller and will make it’s debut at the forthcoming Cannes Film Festival.

out post sound provided a full post production service for the film including dialogue editing, ADR, sound effect design and editing and premixing in 5.1 surround. Rob Speight, Managing Director at out post commented: “This has been by far our biggest project to date and the three months of work on the film were quite frantic. However, out post has proved once again that we can tackle large projects and provide a quality finished product. We are currently gearing up for an even bigger feature project later in the year, for which we have assembled a team drawn from some of the larger post houses that have closed in London over the last year or so. Our physical expansion in the next few months will also see us being able to continue to bring post production work out of London and into Brighton saving clients pockets and drawing on the huge amount of talent in the city and surrounding areas.”

The Voice of Christmas - out post sound completes work on BBC One Christmas special.

out post sound has just completed work on a 90 minute Christmas special for BBC One. ‘Dustbin Baby’, written by best-selling author Jacqueline Wilson, stars Juliet Stevenson (Truly, Madly, Deeply, Bend it Like Beckham, Pierrepoint), Dakota Blue Richards (The Golden Compass) and David Haig.

out post sound was visited by Dakota Blue Richards, Producer Julia Ouston, BAFTA award-winning director Juliet May and Dialogue Editor Matthew Skelding to record Richards voice over in addition to various pieces of ADR (automatic dialogue replacement) for the production.

The session, which was engineered for out post by Rob Speight using a Pro Tools HD system, was the most high profile job yet for the barely year old company.

“We are very happy to have worked on ‘Dustbin Baby’ and it is very exciting to be working alongside Clarity Post Production for Kindle Entertainment. This particular job, along with others we have recently completed for CNBC Europe and Channel Five, re-affirms my belief that Brighton can develop into a television and film production hub, similar to Manchester and Cardiff,” said Speight.

‘Dustbin Baby’ is due to air on BBC One between Christmas and New Year.
