Inter Milan sack coach Claudio Ranieri after poor run

Inter Milan have sacked coach Claudio Ranieri after only one win in their last 10 league matches.

The former Chelsea boss took charge at the San Siro in September, replacing Gian Piero Gasperini, who was dismissed after only five games in charge.

Despite Inter's poor run, president Massimo Moratti said earlier on Monday: "I think that Claudio Ranieri will remain until the end of the season."

Youth team coach Andrea Stramaccioni will take charge of the Nerazzurri.
Stramaccioni led Inter's youth side to a win over Ajax in the NextGen Series final on Sunday.
Following Sunday's defeat by Juventus, Inter sit eighth in Serie A, 22 points behind their local rivals, who top the table.

They were also knocked out of the Champions League in the last 16 by Marseille earlier this month.
A statement on the club's website said: "President Massimo Moratti and everyone at Inter Milan would like to thank Claudio Ranieri and his staff for their professionalism, dedication and honesty during their time in charge of the team.

Tuesday's multi-state Mega Millions lottery drawing saw the following winning numbers unveiled: 9-19-34-44-51 and 24 for the Mega number!!!!!!

Alas, nobody won across 40+ states.

The jackpot has now been raised to a record $476 million for the next drawing, to be held Friday. The previous record for largest jackpot was $390M in 2007.

The odds of winning are roughly 1 in 176 million, but somehow we're guessing that isn't about to stop an absurd number of people from giving it a shot.

I’m giving you two cell-phone clips from the flight itself. The audio, alas, is poor, with someone clearly shouting in the distance but unintelligibly (at least to me). According to Fox News, though, he was ranting about Iran and Iraq and someone heard something about bombs. When he tried to get back in the cockpit, two stewardesses stopped him and then a bunch of male passengers, including a member of the NYPD, brought him down.

Sound suspicious? That’s where the third clip below comes in, and that’s the one you should absolutely watch. Former Fox News anchor Laurie Dhue was on the plane and phoned in afterward to FNC to give Shep the scoop. From what she’s heard from the cops, the pilot is a vet and may have had an episode triggered by PTSD. JetBlue released a statement after the flight saying that he had suffered a “medical situation.” I’m curious to know if he’s suffered a breakdown before, how severe it was, and what JB’s policy is on clearing pilots with psychological conditions for flight.

They managed to bring this bird in safely — as luck would have it, another pilot was flying as a passenger and was brought up to the cockpit to help land it(!) — but needless to say, things could have gotten very bad. In fact, according to Fox, at one point before he was restrained he “appeared to want to open the plane’s side door.” Gulp.

Open mic catches Obama asking Russian president for space on missile defense

In a private conversation about the planned U.S.-led NATO missile defense system in Europe, President Obama asked outgoing Russian President Dmitri Medvedev for space on the issue.

“On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved but it's important for him to give me space,” Obama told Medvedev.

“Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space,” Medvedev replied.
"This is my last election," Obama said. "After my election I have more flexibility."
"I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir," Medvedev said, referring to incoming President Vladimir Putin.

The two leaders talked Monday during a formal one-on-one meeting ahead of the Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul, South Korea. In video they are seen seated, almost huddled, facing each other, each man with his elbows on his knees, leaning in closely over a small table, as they speak intently. Part of the exchange was caught on camera at the end of the 90-minute meeting as reporters and cameras entered the room for a quick photo opportunity of Obama and Medvedev.

It's a prickly issue between the two countries. NATO and U.S. leaders insist the project is designed to protect against a potential Iranian strike and would not be used against Russia. But Russia bristles at having a missile defense system so close to its border, arguing it violates Russian sovereignty.

“The United States is committed to implementing our missile defense system, which we’ve repeatedly said is not aimed at Russia," said Ben Rhodes, deputy national security adviser for strategic communications, in a statement. "However, given the longstanding difference between the U.S. and Russia on this issue, it will take time and technical work before we can try to reach an agreement."

Rhodes acknowledged the difficulty of finding a solution when politics are at play. "Since 2012 is an election year in both countries, with an election and leadership transition in Russia and an election in the United States, it is clearly not a year in which we are going to achieve a breakthrough. Therefore, President Obama and President Medvedev agreed that it was best to instruct our technical experts to do the work of better understanding our respective positions, providing space for continued discussions on missile defense cooperation going forward.”

Director James Cameron is now the record holder for deepest solo dive after his submarine, "Deepsea Challenger" made it to the bottom of the Mariana Trench a couple hours ago. The sponsors of the expedition are James Cameron, Rolex, and National Geographic making me think this will turn into a film someday.

Another fact which makes it seem like I'm making this all up, which I'm not, is Paul Allen is live-Tweeting the entire thing.

I've been holding on to this really amazing interactive infographic of the Mariana Trench for a long time, and now is the perfect time to share it. The deepest part of the Trench is called Challenger Deep, a name Tolkien certainly would have created if he'd ever finished his pirate adventure.

Ryan Madson to Have Tommy John Surgery

The hits just keep on coming. Per Ken Rosenthal, Ryan Madson is the latest pitcher to need Tommy John surgery, and will be lost for the 2012 season. The falling dominos will push Sean Marshall into the closer’s role with the Reds, and Aroldis Chapman will move back to the bullpen to replace Marshall in the vacated lefty setup role.

Obviously, this is lousy news for both Madson and the Reds, and you can’t help but wonder how this might have changed the face of the National League race had things turned out differently this winter. Depending on who you believe, the Phillies were either considering or had already agreed to a four year, $44 million deal with Madson, but ended up going after Jonathan Papelbon instead. Had the Phillies finalized that deal with Madson instead of Papelbon, we might be talking about the Marlins or Braves as frontrunners for the NL East today.

Instead, this deals a significant blow to the Reds chances of taking the NL Central, and perhaps evens out yesterday’s news that the Cardinals have lost Chris Carpenter “indefinitely”. The Reds have enough talent to contend this year, but without Madson, their bullpen takes a significant hit. Cincinnati desperately needs Chapman to get back to his dominating 2010 form, rather than the inconsistent hurler he was last year.

I also wonder how this news will affect players willingness to bet on themselves by taking Scott Boras’ advice and going for a one year “pillow contract”. Madson took a one year deal to attempt to cash in big next winter, but this news is going to crush his potential for future earnings, and in reality, he may have missed his only chance to land a long term contract. It will be interesting to see whether players begin to decide that they’re better off taking the security of a multi-year deal when they have the chance, rather than deciding that they can do better in 12 months and betting on a one year deal.

At the Midwest Region press conferences today in St. Louis, North Carolina coach Roy Williams said he has a “strong inclination” that injured point guard Kendall Marshall will not play Friday night against Ohio.

“If he comes in to my room tomorrow and says, ‘My wrist feels great,’ and he drops down to the floor and does 10 right handed pushups on his right hand, then I’ll say I’ll probably play his rear end,” Williams said during his press conference. “But I don’t expect that to happen. I mean, the guy can’t brush his teeth right now.”

Marshall broke a bone in his right wrist in the Heels’ win over Creighton last Sunday. He underwent surgery to have a screw placed in the wrist on Monday. His cast has been replaced with a removable splint.

The New York Jets are seriously considering trading for Tim Tebow, according to multiple reports this morning.
The New York Times described the team's interest as "sincere and legitimate," and the Post reports that the team has held "serious internal discussions."

So why would they do it?
The Jets think Tebow could revive the wildcat offense that bloomed in Miami under current offensive coordinator Tony Sparano.

Plus he'd sell a billion jerseys, and the Jets would usurp the Super Bowl champion Giants as the No. 1 most talked about team in New York City.

The move wouldn't be without its risks. Mark Sanchez struggled mightily last year. If he gets off to a slow start with Tebow looking over his shoulder next season, things could get ugly.

Trayvon Martin Case: Civil Rights Leaders Call For George Zimmerman Arrest

The controversial and tragic case of Trayvon Martin, the unarmed black teenager shot to death by a neighborhood watch captain in Sanford, Fla., last month, continues to make headlines, with leaders calling for the arrest of the shooter, George Zimmerman.
At a town hall meeting Tuesday in Sanford, Fla., where the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Martin took place on February 26, officials from the NAACP, the American Civil Liberties Union and the Nation of Islam urged residents to remain calm.
At the same time, they demanded that George Zimmerman, be arrested.

Zimmerman (above, right) has not been charged with a crime in the shooting of Martin. He admitted that he shot Martin (above, left), who was returning to a gated community in the city after buying candy at a convenience store.

He says it was all in self-defense after Martin attacked him, however.
Police have said Zimmerman is white; his family says he is Hispanic.
The case has ignited a furor against the police department of this Orlando suburb of 53,500 people, prompting rallies and a protest in Gov. Rick Scott's office.

Social media has played a huge role in catapulting the incident to national prominence and prompting debate over gun laws, race relations and so much more.
"I stand here as a son, a father, and an uncle who is tired of being scared for our boys," said Benjamin Jealous, president of the NAACP. "I'm tired of telling our young men how they can't dress, where they can't go and how they can't behave."

The Justice Department's Civil Rights Division said it is sending its community relations service this week to Sanford to "address tension in the community."
Earlier in the week, the federal agency opened a civil rights probe into the shooting, and in Florida, Seminole County State Attorney Norm Wolfinger said a grand jury will meet April 10 to consider evidence in the case.
When The Associated Press tried to reach the police department Tuesday evening for comment, a dispatcher told a reporter to call back in the morning.

Earlier Tuesday, an attorney for Martin's family revealed the teenager told his girlfriend just moments before he was killed that he was being followed.

"'Oh he's right behind me, he's right behind me again,'" 17-year-old Trayvon Martin told his girlfriend on his cellphone, attorney Benjamin Crump said.
The girl later heard Martin say, "Why are you following me?" Another man asked, "What are you doing around here?'" Crump recalled to reporters.

Crump said Martin cried out when a man bearing a 9mm handgun came at him.
Police said Zimmerman, who was found bleeding from his nose and the back of his head, told authorities he yelled out for help before shooting Martin.
"She absolutely blows Zimmerman's absurd self-defense claim out of the water," Crump said of Trayvon Martin's girlfriend, whose name was withheld.
Martin, in town from Miami to visit his father in Sanford, called his 16-year-old girlfriend in Miami several times, including just before the shooting.
The discovery of the lengthy conversations, including one moments before the shooting, was made by Martin's father, who checked his cell phone log.

The teenager told the girl on his way back from the store he'd taken shelter from the rain briefly at an apartment building in his father's gated community.
Martin then told her he was being followed. "She says: 'Run.' He says, 'I'm not going to run, I'm just going to walk fast,'" Crump said, quoting the girl.
After Martin encountered Zimmerman, the girl thought she heard a scuffle "because his voice changes like something interrupted his speech," Crump said.

The phone call ended before the girl heard gunshots.
The last call was at 7:12 p.m. Police arrived at 7:17 p.m. to find Martin lying face down on the ground. Zimmerman was handcuffed by police.
He was then taken into custody for questioning, but was released by police without being charged. Police have interviewed Zimmerman twice since.

Crump called the treatment patently unfair and asked if Trayvon Martin would have received the same treatment if he had been the shooter.
"We will not rest until he is arrested. The more time that passes, the more likely this is going to be swept under the rug," Crump said.

Rather than forcing one to retreat if one feels that one’s life is in immediate danger, she explained, the Florida law allows individuals to “stand their ground” and defend themselves using deadly force “if necessary.”

O’Reilly played a portion of neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman‘s call to 911 before he pursued — and eventually shot — the teen. Zimmerman told the dispatcher that Martin “looks like he’s up to no good or he’s on drugs or something,” later adding that he had “something in his hand.”

Then, he played another 911 call from a neighbor, on which screaming and a gunshot can be heard.
Fellow panelist Lis Wiehl seemed visibly upset over the story, emphasizing that Martin had merely been carrying candy and an ice-tea at the time he’d been shot

“What you have,” Guilfoyle explained, “is just people saying what they heard at the time, but there’s key evidence that could come into both this criminal investigation and a civil wrongful death lawsuit if it is brought. Keep in mind there are two joint investigations.”

Muamba 'stable but critical'

London - Bolton Wanderers player Fabrice Muamba was in a stable but critical condition on Monday, two days after he suffered a cardiac arrest during a match, a statement from the hospital treating him said.

Muamba, 23, slumped onto the turf towards the end of the first half of an FA Cup quarter-final at Tottenham's White Hart Lane stadium in London on Saturday.

Millions of TV viewers saw medical staff attempting to resuscitate him as players, who were visibly shaken, looked on.

A statement issued on behalf of Bolton and the London Chest Hospital said: "Fabrice Muamba's heart condition is stable, but he remains critically ill in intensive care at The London Chest Hospital."

On Sunday night, the hospital had said Muamba was in a "critical condition".

His manager at Premier League club Bolton, Owen Coyle, spoke of the midfielder's "brave fight" after visiting Muamba at hospital on Monday.

Coyle said the player's family had been inundated with messages of support.

"They have been inundated as we all have, both in the football community globally and family and friends. People are taking a genuine interest and a real concern in how Fabrice is doing."

The plight of the player born in what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo sparked a wave of support from his fellow Premier League players and football fans worldwide.

Teams led fans in a minute's applause before matches on Sunday while his former Bolton team-mate, Gary Cahill, unveiled a t-shirt reading "Pray 4 Muamba" after he scored for his new club Chelsea.

Muamba's fiancee, Shauna Muamba, the mother to their three-year-old son Joshua, thanked fans on Twitter for their support.

"God is in control. Please keep afmuamba in ur prayers xx"

She later added: "Please keep praying for afmuamba its really helping I can feel it xx".

Following Muamba's on-field collapse, referee Howard Webb took the players off the field and then, with the agreement of both clubs, abandoned a tie where the score had stood at 1-1.

The incident has led Bolton to postpone their next match, a Premier League game away to Aston Villa due to take place on Tuesday.

But Bolton captain Kevin Davies said the prospect of fixture congestion was of no concern to him or his team-mates.

"Any of those questions are irrelevant at the minute," he said.

"The club will take a stance on it in the next couple of days. But at the minute we want to just try and help Fabrice."

Muamba was born in Kinshasa but came to England aged 11 to join up with his father, who had fled the country.

He started his football career as a schoolboy at Arsenal, whose manager Arsene Wenger said: "As a man, Fabrice has a positive attitude towards life, he is full of determination and has a great desire.

"When he was younger, he had massive players in front of him at Arsenal, but I felt he had reached the level to play in the Premier League, so we let him go and he has proved his quality.

"A football player always remains attached to where he was educated. Fabrice had his friends from childhood here and they remain your friends forever.

"We are all thinking of Fabrice, his family and everyone close to him."

As Muamba continued to fight for his life, experts said any recovery would depend on to what extent his brain had been starved of oxygen.

Amanda Varnava, a consultant cardiologist at St Mary's Hospital in London, called on Britain to follow Italy's example and screen all young athletes for genetic heart problems.

"The Italians have dropped the incidence by 90 percent," she told The Times. "It would be a good idea here.

"It's got to the point where 12 young people under the age of 35 (in the UK) die each week, which is an appalling tragedy."

The fact that seemingly fit young men could suffer cardiac problems while playing was brought home to the football world by the death of Cameroon's Marc-Vivien Foe during a Confederations Cup semi-final against Colombia in 2003.

And in 2004, another Bolton player, Senegal international Khalilou Fadiga, collapsed before a League Cup tie against Tottenham at the Reebok with a heart problem but subsequently recovered.

Sanjay Sharma, professor of cardiology at St George's Hospital, London, told The Times that players were screened at the age of 16 in England but that not all clubs carried out regular checks.

Keselowski wins Sprint Cup race at Bristol again

BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Brad Keselowski placed a priority on proving his first Bristol Motor Speedway victory hadn't been a fluke.

Nothing quiets detractors like two victories in a row.

Keselowski's victory at the .533-mile bullring in August 2011 was accomplished amid claims that an advantageous pit-road slot provided Keselowski with an edge in track position. NASCAR considered the situation serious enough that it changed the number and location of transponders designed to monitor pit road. The changes supposedly solved the problem.

Keselowski won again anyway on Sunday, outdueling Matt Kenseth for most of the final 100 laps.

Four races into the Sprint Cup season, each manufacturer has visited victory lane. Kenseth won the Daytona 500 in a Ford. Denny Hamlin won Phoenix in a Toyota. Tony Stewart drove a Chevy into victory lane at Las Vegas, and Keselowski gave Dodge a victory.

The key at the end was tires, but having new ones was not the important thing. When the final caution period ended with 17 laps remaining, four drivers opted not to pit for tires. All four - Keselowski, Kenseth, third-place Martin Truex Jr. and fifth-place Brian Vickers - finished in the top five, the lone exception being fourth-place Clint Bowyer.

Kenseth said he had noticed while watching Saturday's Nationwide Series race, won by Elliott Sadler, that fresh tires weren't much of an advantage.

“It was obvious,” Kenseth said. “New tires didn't make you much faster.”

Positions 3 through 5 at the end were occupied by Toyotas representing Michael Waltrip Racing. Vickers managed to finish fifth in his first Sprint Cup race of the season. He drove the Toyota Mark Martin had driven in the season's first three races.

A crash on the 24th lap had a profound effect on the conduct of the Food City 500. Kasey Kahne's Chevy brushed Regan Smith's Chevy on the front straight. Keselowski's Dodge narrowly avoided major involvement in the resulting melee, which eliminated from contention the winner of four of the four previous races at Bristol, Kyle Busch, as well as Marcos Ambrose, Kevin Harvick and Carl Edwards.

However, Keselowski's fifth career victory was no fluke. He led a career-high 232 of the 500 laps. Vickers led 125 and Kenseth 45. The driver who wound up finishing 17th, Keselowski's Penske Racing teammate A.J. Allmendinger, led 54 of the first 100 laps.

Keselowski led 89 laps in his first Bristol victory.

Pole winner Greg Biffle finished a disappointing 13th, though he led the race's first 41 laps. A late spin led to a 14th-place finish for Las Vegas victor Tony Stewart, and Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s pit-road speeding penalty cost him a finish in the top five. He wound up 15th.

Biffle maintained the Sprint Cup point lead. Kevin Harvick is nine points back, followed by Kenseth (-12), Truex (-18), Hamlin (-20) and Earnhardt (-20).

Late former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's intelligence chief has been arrested in Mauritania, one of Africa's newest oil producers countries, the Al Jazeera reported Saturday.

The 63-year-old Abdullah al-Senussi has been described as a hardliner and one of Gaddafi's closest aides. He fled Libya after Gaddafi was deposed and then killed in an uprising last year.

According to Mauritanian security officials, Al-Senussi who is also Gaddafi's brother-in-law, was detained at Nouakchott airport as he arrived from the Moroccan city of Casablanca on a false Malian passport.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) has indicted Senussi on two counts of crimes against humanity.

Kansas had an outside shot at a no. 1 seed heading into selection Sunday but the loss to Baylor in the Big 12 semifinals proved too much to overcome. The good news for the Jayhawks is that they will be staying in the Midwest.

The path to the Final Four for Kansas will go through Omaha and St. Louis which means the Jayhawks won't have to travel far from home and the overall the draw is challenging but still manageable.

First round opponent Detroit has an athletic team with some high level talent. A potential rematch with Georgetown, the no. 3, looms down the line. Kansas also has several bubble teams and mid majors on the list of potential stumbling blocks. Of course if everyone plays to seed heading into the Elite Eight, top seed North Carolina has a little bit of a connection the Jayhawks sitting on the sidelines.

All in all March Madness is unpredictable, exciting, frustrating and a roller coaster of emotions. To make it to the Final Four and to win a title, you have to beat good teams. The debate will continue, but this was a year where Kansas overcame a lot, won a Big 12 championship, secured a two seed and has a very real shot at a Final Four. As a fan, that seems like a pretty fortunate storyline in a 'down year'.

The changing of clocks tomorrow (March 11) for daylight savings time is as good a time as any to take stock of one’s personal or family survival kit. And local health officials are taking the time change as an opportunity to drill disaster preparedness to the public.

The switch to daylight savings time coincides with earthquake and tsunami awareness month in Oregon, whose Pacific Northwest location puts it on the map for earthquake risk.

‘We recommend having at least a three-day supply of food and water stored at home, with at least one gallon of water per person per day,’ said Oregon Health Authority emergency operations head Mike Harryman.

Those living in straitened circumstances can try to do their stockpiling slowly, picking up one or two items during every grocery store visit. ‘Stock up on canned vegetables or batteries when they’re on sale,’ he adds.

Super Tuesday

The grueling Republican primary season continues with more of the same. Romney won the biggest races and the most delegates, but given his crushing advantage in money, organization, endorsements, and conservative media help, his performance was underwhelming.

Mitt did win his home state of Massachussetts, Virginia (where only Romney and Paul were on the ballot), Idaho, Vermont, Ohio, and he’s projected to win Alaska. Newt, on the other hand, only won his home state of Georgia while Santorum won Oklahoma, North Dakota, and Tennessee.

Yet, Mitt barely managed to win Ohio, where he outspent Santorum 6-to-1, he only beat Ron Paul (!!!) 59-41 in a two man Virginia race, and his loss in Tennessee underscores his weakness in the South that would put North Carolina and Virginia in play in the general election.

Still, we’re at the point where it has become obvious that neither Newt or Santorum has any chance of overtaking Mitt in delegates before the convention unless one of them drops out. The thing is, although Santorum is ahead of Newt in delegates and nationally, his campaign appears to be running out of money while it seems extremely unlikely that Sheldon Adelson would have agreed to give Newt’s Super PAC so much money unless he promised to stay in the race long-term (Adelson reportedly doesn’t like Santorum and wants Mitt as the nominee if Newt can’t come out on top).

So, what happens from here? It’s hard to say for sure. Newt or Santorum could drop out and suddenly things could get a lot more interesting. Alternately, if both stay in, voters may tire of the primary, conclude only Mitt can pull in enough delegates, and may start to coalesce around him. On the other hand, this could go all the way to the convention and if Mitt STILL doesn’t have enough delegates, it would be such a sign of weakness that all bets would be off. A brokered convention isn’t the most likely outcome at this point, given Mitt’s weakness, it’s far from an impossibility if Santorum and Newt stay in until the end.

Unfortunately, the longer this race goes on without either Newt or Santorum showing they can seriously challenge Mitt, the more likely it is that he will capture the nomination. So, underwhelming performance or not, last night’s performance still moves Mitt that much closer to capturing the nomination.

Even after re-signing Stevie Johnson to a five-year, $36.25 million contract on Monday, the Buffalo Bills are reportedly interested in impending free agent wide receiver Vincent Jackson, per The San Diego Union-Tribune.

Jackson, as most of you are aware, has a direct tie to Bills GM Buddy Nix; Nix was the Chargers' Assistant GM when Jackson was made a second-round pick in 2005. Since then, Jackson has blossomed into one of the better wide receivers in the league, including a Pro Bowl appearance in 2009. For his career, he has 272 receptions, 4,754 yards and 37 touchdowns.

The report, however, also claims that Jackson would like to return to San Diego, and would be willing to accept slightly less than what he's offered on the open market to do so. The Chargers, it's believed, are set to offer him nearly $11 million in annual compensation - a figure that Jackson could eclipse on the open market. Jackson, who turned 29 in January, is more than three years Johnson's senior, and has never had more than 68 receptions or nine scores in a season. Johnson has surpassed the first figure in each of the past two seasons, and had 10 touchdowns in 2010.

Our question for you, Bills fans: is signing a 29-year-old player that, at his peak, has put up similar production to Johnson worth an additional $4-5 million in annual compensation over the deal Johnson signed yesterday?

San Francisco Shaken by Two Small Earthquakes

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Two small, back-to-back earthquakes shook San Francisco Bay area residents awake Monday morning but appeared to leave no serious damage or injury.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a magnitude-3.5 quake struck at 5:33 a.m. about eight miles northeast of San Francisco in the city of El Cerrito. It was followed eight seconds later by a magnitude-4.0 temblor, said geophysicist Paul Caruso. The USGS originally reported that the first quake had a magnitude of 2.9.

The shaking was felt within a 60-mile radius, from Santa Rosa in the north to Santa Cruz in the south.
The California Highway Patrol, San Francisco police and El Cerrito police said they didn't receive any immediate reports of injury or damage.

Bay Area commuter trains were briefly delayed after the quake to inspect the tracks.
Seismologists said the quake appeared to occur on the Hayward Fault, a seismically active fault that runs along the eastern San Francisco Bay. A 2003 USGS report said the Hayward Fault had the highest chance — 27 percent — of producing a large earthquake of magnitude-6.7 or higher in the Bay Area within 30 years.

"We know that the Hayward Fault is the really important fault in the Bay Area," USGS seismologist David Schwartz told KGO-TV on Monday. "These earthquakes, these 4's, are just an indication of ongoing activity, ongoing stress on the fault. They do nothing to relieve the likelihood of something larger happening."
Overall, there was a 62 percent probability that the Bay Area would see a large quake by 2032, according to the report.

Andre Villas-Boas has parted company with Chelsea Football Club today.
The board would like to record our gratitude for his work and express our disappointment that the relationship has ended so early.

Unfortunately the results and performances of the team have not been good enough and were showing no signs of improving at a key time in the season.
The club is still competing in the latter stages of the Uefa Champions League and the FA Cup, as well as challenging for a top-four spot in the Premier League, and we aim to remain as competitive as possible on all fronts.

With that in mind we felt our only option was to make a change at this time.
With immediate effect Roberto Di Matteo has been appointed first team coach on an interim basis until the end of the season.

Valley Fever

The Mets said they believed first baseman Ike Davis has valley fever, a fungal infection of the lungs. Davis has not been showing any outward symptoms, is not contagious and is not taking medication, the team said in a statement. The team said the infection was expected to resolve on its own over time.

Abnormalities were first noticed in Davis’s chest X-rays conducted as a part of the team’s routine physicals. He flew to New York recently to be examined by specialists, who made the diagnosis.
Davis was instructed to avoid extreme fatigue. Otherwise, he has continued with his usual spring training work. He had two hits in an intrasquad game Saturday afternoon.

Valley fever is most commonly seen in the desert regions of the Southwest. People become infected by breathing in fungal particles from soil. Most infected people never see symptoms. The most common symptoms resemble those of the flu.

Davis, who lives in Arizona in the off-season, will have a follow-up exam when the team returns to New York in April.
