Jorge Lorenzo took his first win of the 2009 season today at Motegi .

It was unusual fast start for Valentino Rossi who started leading the pack at turn 1 ahead of Chris Vemeulen and an excellent Dani Pedrosa who started 11th on the grid and Casey Stoner who dropped from second to fourth and Jorge Lorenzo from third to fifth.

On the first turn, Scot Honda rider Yuki Takahashi took out Nicky Hayden, fortunately for both riders there were no serious injuries, even if Hayden took another bruising to his back, but Dr. Claudio Costa has said that Hayden will be back at Jerez.

By the end of the first lap the Spaniard was back to third, first overtaking Vemeulen and then Pedrosa and then started stalking Valentino Rossi who was already two seconds ahead of him.

Lorenzo started turning the gas on and closing the gap on and by the 8th lap Lorenzo was just 0,2 from his Italian team mate and putting on the pressure, after a first unsuccessful out braking attempt but then tried again and this time made it stick putting himself in the lead.

Rossi seemed to suffer from lack of pace and was then Dani Pedrosa, who in the meantime came up behind him, exchanging places ensued, but ultimately Rossi got the best of Pedrosa at turn five heading into the tunnel and the Italian pulled away from Pedrosa, but Lorenzo was long gone, winning the race with a 1.3 second lead and his 2nd MotoGP victory.

Casey Stoner ran most of the race in 5th, but began matching the pace of the front racers and caught Andrea Dovizioso with 3 laps to go and finished 4th and Dovizioso 5th.

Sixth place went to a very suprising Marco Melandri with his Hayate. Loris Capirossi seventh after a bad start and falling back to 11th.

Mikka Kallio 8th and second best Ducati after a highside on Friday that left him with a sore ankle and 17th on the starting grid.

James Toseland went from 10th to seventh then back down to eighth to finish in 9th position. Vermeulen rounded out the top 10. Randy DePuniet 11th. Colin Edwards dropped from fifth to last and finished 12th. DeAngelis 13th and Canapa 14th.

Both Sete Gibernau and Toni Elias crashed out and both were able to get back in the race, but Sete had to retire and Elias finished 15th.

Valentino Rossi made debut in 125ccm class in Italian sport production championship on Cagiva, and next year, 1994, he takes the title. His talent vas recognized by Aprilia, so he became their official rider in European 125ccm championship, finishing this season as third. In same year he once again got Italian championship title. Year 1996 was the first year for Valentino Rossi in world championship, where he rode Aprilia for Team Scuderia AGV, and finished first season in 11th place, also taking his first victory in Czech Republic. This year was only preparation for Valentino Rossi, who took the 125ccm title in his second world championship season, with team Nastro Azzurro Aprilia. This way Rossi became youngest ever 125ccm world champion, taking impressive 11 wins.

Valentino Rossi moved to 250ccm category of world championship in year 1998, and finished this season in second place, with 5 wins under his belt. Once again, one season was enough for Rossi to adopt for new class, and second season was the one where Rossi takes the title. This time, he conquered 250ccm class with 9 wins and total score of 309 points, once again becoming youngest ever 250ccm champion. Both his seasons in 250ccm, Valentino Rossi rode for Nastro Azzurro Aprilia team.

In year 2000 Valentino Rossi moves to Royal class to 500ccm. This season he moved to Honda, with Nastro Azzurro team. The rule season to adopt, season to win, once more proved to be correct. In his first year in premier class of motorcycle racing, he finished second in championship, with two wins and 209 championship points. Second year (2001) saw Valentino Rossi taking 500ccm title, with impressive 11 wins and 325 championship points. At this point of his career was obvious that he will become one of greatest MotoGP riders of all times.

Year 2002 introduces revolution in premier class of world motorcycle racing: MotoGP class now includes 990ccm machines, alongside existing 500ccm. Valentino Rossi storms 2002 MotoGP championship with 11 wins, becoming first world champion in MotoGP class on new Honda RC211V machine. In year 2003 Rossi repeated seam success, taking second MotoGP crown, and shocked everyone in world of MotoGP racing with decision to move from superior Honda to Yamaha. Many other riders saw their chance in this move from Valentino Rossi, but time shown that they were not right.

Rossi continued his impressive performance on Yamaha in 2004, taking victory on his first race on Yamaha, becoming this way second rider in history of the MotoGP that made back-to-back victories on two different machines. Once again, Valentino Rossi shocked motorcycle world: he took 2004 MotoGP championship title by taking 9 wins in the season, equaling his number of wins on Honda in previous season. This way he also became Yamaha rider with biggest number of wins in season, breaking record of the 7 wins in the season held by Eddie Lawson and Wayne Rainey.
Figures are clearly speaking about talent of Valentino Rossi: In season 2004 he scored more points than all other Yamaha riders together.

Casey Stoner, first race was when he was four years old, in an under nine years old race at the Mike Hatcher's dirt racing track on the Gold Coast of Australia. Between his very first race win at the age of nine and the age of fourteen, young Casey Stoner won 41 dirt and long track titles and 70 state titles. One feat he achieved that illustrates his passion and "need" for racing was done at age twelve. Over one weekend he raced in 5 different categories in all 7 rounds of each capacity. A weekend consisting of 35 different races... Not only did he compete in all these categories and different engine capacities, the young Casey Stoner went on to win 32 out of the 35 races. There were five Australian titles to be won that weekend, Casey Stoner won all 5.

Stoner began competing at age four and won his first race at age nine. At age 14, Stoner and his parents moved to England, where he later won the English 125cc Aprilia Championship in 2000.

From 2000 to 2002, he contested the national 125cc GP championships in Britain and Spain, winning the English 125cc Aprilia Championship in 2000, before moving fulltime to the 250cc GP World Championships in 2002. His season on an Aprilia under the guidance of Lucio Cecchinello was turbulent, with no podium places from 15 race starts.

125cc
In 2003 Stoner moved to the 125cc GP category. Here, working again with Cecchinello and Aprilia, he met with considerable success, scoring his first GP race win and three second places, finishing 8th overall at the season's end.

In 2004 Stoner joined the Red Bull KTM factory team in 125cc class and continued to improve, with another race win, two second places, three thirds, and a final championship position of fifth.

250cc

In 2005 he rejoined the 250cc world championship class, racing once again for Lucio Cecchinello on an Aprilia. Onboard a factory Aprilia, Stoner emerged toward the season's end as a serious threat to championship leader Dani Pedrosa; a threat that only dissipated with a crash at Stoner's home Grand Prix of Phillip Island, allowing Pedrosa to establish an insurmountable points lead. Stoner went on to claim a solid second place in the overall championship standings, with an impressive five race victories for the season.

MotoGP

Stoner during the MotoGP pre-season test session at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia in January 2007.Stoner was in advanced negotiations with Yamaha, but after they dropped them he settled on an alliance once more with team manager Lucio Cecchinello on a Honda RC211V, on a one-bike team new to the series for the 2006 Season. He took pole for only his second race, but crashed several times. He finished his debut season in 8th position with his best result being a 2nd place at the Turkish GP, where he was overtaken on the final corner by Marco Melandri.

Stoner secured a ride with the factory Ducati team for the 2007 season, joining Loris Capirossi on the new 800cc Ducati Desmosedici GP7. 6 poles and 10 race wins took him to his first GP title.

He recently signed a contract extension with Ducati that will see him remain with the team for the 2008 and 2009 seasons (in which he will partner Italian Marco Melandri), with a further option for a 4th season in 2010.

Career : Dani Pedrosa

Having won three titles in a row (125, 250 and then 250cc) Pedrosa remained with Honda and moved into MotoGP for 2006. He started the season strongly, taking second place in his first race and his first win at Shanghai. A low came from Pedrosa when, with an outside chance of the title, he crashed into his team mate, Nicky Hayden, at Estoril. Hayden had been leading the Championship and the crash meant that he was overtaken by Rossi, on the Yamaha, with one round remaining. Under intense scrutiny, Pedrosa vowed to help Hayden win the Championship. As it transpired Rossi crashed during the final race and Hayden was able to comfortably take the title, relieving the pressure on the Spaniard.

For 2007 Pedrosa was again teamed with Nicky Hayden in the Repsol Honda garage on the new capacity 800cc MotoGP machines. On the smaller machines Pedrosa was deemed one of the favourites before the start of the season but, in truth, the Honda never really delivered. The Spaniard was able to snatch second position from Rossi at the final round by taking the win but, along with everyone else, he played second fiddle to an utterly dominant Casey Stoner on the Ducati.

2008 would again see Pedrosa lining up on the Honda together with deposed Champion, and team mate, Nicky Hayden. It was a season of ups and downs. By Assen, round nine of the Championship, he had been on the podium in all but one of the races and he lead the title race by four points from Rossi. The next round, at the Sachsenring, was a turning point. On a wet track Pedrosa flew into the lead from the start and by the end of the first lap had amassed a stunning two second lead. Rather than hold the position he continued to pull away at the front and within six laps he had a seven second lead. Unfortunately for the tiny Spaniard he was obviously pushing too hard and he lost the front of his Honda, crashing heavily into the gravel. The subsequent injuries meant that he scored no meaningful points until Misano, three races later. By that time he had dropped to third in the title race and with Rossi starting a run of six victories in seven races the Championship was out of sight.

Eyebrows were raised when Pedrosa switched from Michelin to Bridgestone tyres mid-season but he was able to adapt to the change very well.

2009 sees Pedrosa remain at Repsol Honda and be joined by Dovizioso, replacing the departed Nicky Hayden.
