95 patrons braved the stiffling heat wave to join us for Sandi Sylver's "Wild Side of Songs and Stories" Show on Tuesday June 23, 2009. Sandi brought several friends including "Tootles" who is pictured above. Thank you for a fun program, Sandi!

Rob & Maggie Erdmann visit KPLD

We had a wonderful time on June 11th when Rob Erdmann presented his "Illinois Erdmann Read on the Wild Side" Program with help from daughter Maggie and many of his puppet friends. Rob showed us delightful magic tricks and allowed students to assist. His puppet pals were very amusing and we heard wonderful music (some fun stuff from the 80's!). What a great day! KPLD hosted The Teddy Bear Picnic on Monday February 23, 2009. We went on a Cool Bear Hunt (courtesy of Dr. Jean), Danced with our Teddy Bears, listened to The Teddy Bears' Picnic by Jimmy Kennedy, made a Paper Plate Bear craft, and ate Teddy Grahams on our picnic tablecloths.

Potato Chip Olympics February 11, 2009

Morgan Hamilton was the winner of the Potato Chip Olympics held on February 11, 2009 in the KPLD Community Room. Students earned points by correctly naming different brands and flavors of chips while blindfolded. This program was hosted by the KPLD Junior High Board.

Hallo-Wiener Book Cart

The KPLD Junior High Advisory Board designed a book cart to resemble the main character of Dav Pilkey's book The Hallo-Wiener for the "Trick My Bookcart" Contest which is sponsored by the creators of the library comic strip Unshelved. Sarah Barth hosted an afternoon of gross stories, songs, and treats for all on June 25th. We enjoyed singing "Greasy Grimey Gopher Guts", getting "scabs" and making snot! We also ate wormy apples, hand-burgers and foot-dogs, with bloody hand punch.

AHOY MATEYS! WE CELEBRATED PIRATE NIGHT ON SEPTEMBER 24, 2007! Pirates came dressed for the occasion to listen to Pirate stories, play Pirate Bean Bag Toss and make Eye Patches or Treasure Maps! They also took a prize from the Treasure Chest! Thank you to all our pirate fans who made the evening so much fun!

Our next family program is Halloween Lunch Tales on Saturday October 27th @ 11:30 am. Dress in your best costume, bring a sack lunch and hear Halloween stories, make and take a craft, and Trick or Treat in the Library! Contact the Youth Services Dept. @ 852-4505 for more details!

American Girl Doll Collection

MICHELLE JOHNSON shows her American Girl Doll Collection in the Youth Services Department of the Kewanee Public Library. Michelle is a member of the Junior High Advisory Board. The "JHAB" holds monthly meetings to help Youth Services Staff add popular books, movies, and CD's to the KPLD collection. JHAB members also help plan programming as well as serve as volunteers in the Youth Services Department. Any student entering 6th-8th Grade this fall may join the JHAB. Please contact Heather for details.

Any student with a special collection he or she would like to share in our display case is encouraged to contact the Youth Services Department @ 852-4505.

Curious George

CURIOUS GEORGE "the curious little monkey", from the famous children's series by H. A. Rey and Margret Rey, came to visit KPLD on Thursday July 26, 2007. Kerri Foley of WQPT-TV presented a Meet and Greet program which had over 100 attendees. Youth got a chance to be photographed with their pal Curious George. We would like to thank the Amy Helpenstell Foundation for being a sponsor of this event. Watch The Apartment at the library on our big screen.This 1961 Academy Award winning film stars Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine and Fred MacMurray. The Apartment is a comedy and tells the story of a man who tries an unusual method to climb the corporate ladder and runs into unexpected complications. The showing is free to the public and includes free popcorn courtesy of Kewanee’s own Wanee Theatre.

Crafts & Games SRP 2007

Albert Kelley is pictured drawing clues for his team as students played "Pictionary" on Game Day in the Youth Services Department.

Nineteen students enjoyed Crafts & Games on June 14, 2007. Heather Darding assisted students in making Scratch-Off Color Pictures and Sarah Barth led students in playing the game "Pictionary". Crafts and Games are a part of the Mission Read Summer Reading Program.
