Our Annual Tournament is coming on May 17!

This is a chance for students of all ages and skill levels to train hard, sharpen their skills and compete!

We offer many divisions, including self-defense techniques, hand form, weapon form, sparring and push hands. We have competition for Kung Fu students, Tai Chi students and Lion Dancers!

Annual Awards Banquet March 28

We will hold our Annual Awards Banquet on Friday, March 28 starting at 7pm at the King Palace Restaurant.

This banquet is our chance to say 'Thank you!' to students, for all their hard work over the year, as well as bring our 3 locations and all of our family members together for a night of celebration.

Events include:

Keikie (kids) Group demonstrations;
Awards including Outstanding Student, Most Improved, Spirit and Tai Chi;
Lion Dancing;
Year in Review video;
Raffle and silent auction;
and good food!

Annual End of Summer Picnic August 17!

We will have our annual End of Summer Picnic on August 17 at Rancho Seco Park!

This is always a fun event for the whole family!
Expect:

Picnic games
Potluck food (lots)
Water balloons and squirt guns
A nice sunny day in a beautiful park

This is for all Eastern Ways students and family, so come join us. Try to carpool if you can (or pack the whole family in the car), because there is a $10 parking fee per vehicle.

Eastern Ways Commercial Filming on July 20!

We will be filming for new Eastern Ways commercials on Saturday, July 20 at the Folsom school! There will be a professional video production company coming to the school to film, and we need your assistance!

This filming session is open to all students. We will be filming the following:

Leopards/Tigers group class
Dragons/Phoenix group class
Private lesson scenes
Kung Fu adult class
Tai Chi adult class

We will start filming at 10am. All participants should be prepared to arrive at 10 and stay as long as needed. You are welcome to bring snacks or drinks to be sure you are prepared.

To participate, you should bring:
A clean, unwrinkled uniform: white Kung Fu or Tai Chi top as appropriate, uniform pants with blue stripe, sash and mat shoes.
Patience, as there are many variables in the filming process (lighting, retakes, etc)
Lots of positive energy!

You may bring:
Sparring gear
Weapons you are trained in
Rash guards or fight shorts
Water, snacks, etc

Eastern Ways Martial Arts is made up of a diverse group of students. We want our commercial to reflect this, so all 3 schools are welcome and encouraged to participate!

Red White and Blue Parade this Saturday!

Come see Eastern Ways' Lion Dance Team perform at the Red White and Blue Parade in Citrus Heights this Saturday. The parade is on Sunrise Blvd from Uplands Way to just south of Greenback and starts at 9am.

Chinese New Year is coming!

February 10 is the first day of the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Snake! Our Eastern Ways Lion and Dragon Dance Team will be very busy this year; there are already about 20 performances planned for Chinese New Year! Tai Sifu Seminars June 23

Tai Sifu Hubbard, Chief Instructor of Eastern Ways, will hold his annual seminars at the Folsom school this Saturday, June 23.

Students of all ranks are eligible to attend. Black Sash Club members attend 1 seminar for free and can attend the second for half price!

10am-12noon Push Hands: An advanced Tai Chi and Kung Fu skill, Push Hands teaches about sensitivity and redirecting a partner's force.

1-3pm CLF Double Axes: A rare double weapon form that few know, the Double Axes are also called the "Hurricane" Double Axes because they clear everything out of their path! Don't miss the chance to learn it from one of the few Sifus to know this rare form!

Our annual tournament gives a chance for students of all ages and skill levels to participate and compete positively! Awards are given in every division. Divisions this year include:

Choy Li Fut hand forms, weapon forms, 2 person forms, self-defense techniques, point sparring, weapon sparring - and this year, continuous sparring!

Tai Chi hand forms, saber, gim, broadsword, fan, cane forms, push hands - for beginning, intermediate and advanced students!

Lion dancing for beginning and advanced teams!

Don't miss out on a great full day of competition and exhibition being held for the first time at the Capital Christian Center school gymnasium!

Tai Sifu Hubbard will be teaching his annual Black Sash Seminars!
This year his seminar topics will be:

Plum Blossom Tai Chi Flute 10:00 - 11:30am
A rare Tai Chi form created by Grandmaster Doc-Fai Wong! This form uses a traditional Chinese bamboo flute.

Choy Li Fut 3-Sectional Staff 12:30 - 2:00pm
The 3-Sectional Staff is a common Northern Shaolin weapon, but rare and unique in Southern Shaolin, found only in Choy Li Fut. This is a difficult weapon to learn and will truly test a Kung Fu practicioner's skill. Not to be missed!

Black Sash Club members can attend 1 seminar for free! Seminars will also be open to non-Black Sash Club students of Eastern Ways on a limited basis!

This tournament is an excellent chance for all Eastern Ways students to compete with people of similar rank and age in a fun, controlled environment. This will be a full day of competition, with divisions for Kung Fu and Tai Chi as well as Lion Dancing!

Grandmaster Doc-Fai Wong coming to Eastern Ways!

Grandmaster Doc-Fai Wong returns to Eastern Ways for a weekend of special training, April 10 and 11!

We are always proud and pleased to be able to host Grandmaster Doc-Fai Wong, since his training schedule has become so busy! This will be a closed-door event, and the only chance for students of Eastern Ways to work with Grandmaster this year!

Grandmaster will be teaching the following:
Saturday, April 10
10am-12noon - Chin Na/Joint Locking:
Effective self-defense techniques used to disable an opponent through the secrets of leverage and pressure point contact! A very practical seminar taught by a joint locking expert!

1:30-4:20pm - Choy Li Fut Wind and Fire Wheels:
This rare weapon form is a great performance form for tournaments or exhibitions, but is rarely seen and seldom taught! This is the opportunity to learn the form directly from Grandmaster Doc-Fai Wong!

Sunday, April 11
10am-12noon - Sanbao Ruyi Qigong:
This is the Three Treasures Wishful Qigong, which will help to increase and preserve health, and should be practiced daily for a wide spectrum of benefits.

1:30-4:30pm - Five Elements Tai Chi Broadsword:
A flashy and unique form that uses the classic Chinese broadsword. Those who learn five element theory will learn the concepts of how each technique defeats and can be defeated.

Eastern Ways performs at Raiders Halftime!

Eastern Ways joined the Doc-Fai Wong Martial Arts Center to perform for the Oakland Raiders' Asian Heritage Day halftime show! This show was a tribute to Bruce Lee. Eastern Ways' Lion and Dragon Dance team danced in both end zones and center field, while many Eastern Ways instructors performed kung fu sets in the end zones as well!
