LYNNWOOD — Being referred to years ago as the city with big-haired women who go crazy with blue eye shadow still lingers in the minds of Lynnwood residents, some of whom work at City Hall.

They remember how the Seattle TV comedy show “Almost Live” spoofed Lynnwood in the 1990s by depicting locals as big-haired buffoons.

One particular 2-minute and 42-second segment about a fictional Lynnwood hair salon gave the city’s image a black eye — or at least a dark one — referring to a certain type of eye shadow as “Lynnwood Blue.”

The traffic numbers are beginning to roll in now and it appears online news sites fared poorly in handling a flash flood of traffic following the death of singer Michael Jackson.

Keynote Systems, a company that tracks site performance, is reporting that a review of the more than 30 online news services the firm covers, shows that availability on average fell from 100 percent to 86 percent. The average time it took to access the home pages of top media sites jumped from 4.2 seconds to 8.9 seconds.

Belgrade News news

The Belgrade News has pulled its outdoor distribution racks from Belgrade’s three Town Pump convenience stores, Managing Editor Andy Malby said.

The reason? Town Pump recently signed a contract for management of freedistribution publications that renders circulation at their stores cost-prohibitive, he said.

Under the terms of the contract with The Mini Nickel, a unit of publishing giant Lee Enterprises, all free-distribution publications, including community newspapers, must pay a monthly fee to circulate their products on Town Pump property.

According to Malby, the News decided to circulate elsewhere rather than pay the fee.

“Like every other business in an economy like this, we have to watch every penny,” he said.

Slade Smiley, formerly of The Real Housewives of Orange County, has fallen way behind in his child support payments. Almost 80,000 big ones behind!

And if that wasn't bad enough, Slade's 9-year-old son, Grayson, is fighting an inoperable brain tumor and Slade has only seen him twice in the past year and a half, according to the child's mom. He didn't even send Grayson a birthday card this year!

Pathetic!

Slade recently filed a request to the L.A. County Superior Court, after receiving the letter from the Department of Child Support Services last month, to lower the child support bill because he's unemployed!

We know you have money if you're dating that "housewife" Gretchen Rossi! Get some of that cash to your kid! And maybe he's the one you should have been taking to the pumpkin patch instead of posing there with your girlfriend for the paparazzi!

Calm urged after N Korea missiles

Russia, China and the US have all called for calm after North Korea test-fired a series of missiles.

Seven Scud-type ballistic missiles with a range of about 500km (312 miles) were fired in an apparent act of defiance against the US, on 4 July.Russia and China called on Pyongyang to return to talks, while a US official urged it not to aggravate tensions.

North Korea is banned from all ballistic missile-related activities under UN sanctions.

The sanctions were strengthened after the communist nation carried out a second underground nuclear test in May.

North Korea has launched a number of missiles since the test. On Thursday it fired four short-range missiles.

Dengan sambil sesekali melihat catatan yang dibawanya, Boediono menyampaikan bahwa SBY-Boediono tidak mau memberi janji berlebihan. "Cita-cita yang tinggi tidak membuat kami menjual mimpi," ujar Boediono yang disambut tepuk tangan.

Lebih lanjut Boediono menyatakan untuk membangun kembali Indonesia perlu kerja keras dan tekun, dengan kesadaran kekuatan dan juga keterbatasan yang dimiliki rakyat. "Indonesia berhasil bila kita bekerja semangat, sesuai naskah proklamasi, dengan cara seksama dan dalam tempo sesingkat-singkatnya," kata pria bergelar profesor itu.

"Singkat, tapi harus tangkas. Selain tangka, kita juga harus seksama. Kepemimpinan efektif tidak sama dengan kepemimpinan asal terobos dan asal jadi. Malaysian Islamists urges ban on 'sexy' parkwear

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) - – Malaysia's conservative opposition Islamic party has urged a ban on skimpy outfits in public parks in a northern state it controls, a state official has confirmed.

A Chinese language daily on Wednesday published pictures of a park sign urging non-Muslim users to cover up in the PAS-ruled state of Kelantan.

"We just want to educate Muslims that they should wear clothes according to Islamic teachings and to the non-Muslims, we encourage them to respect each other in Kelantan," Takiyudin Hasan, the state cabinet minister in charge of local government, tourism and culture told AFP.

The signboard tells non-Muslim women to wear tops that have sleeves and which are long enough to cover the waist. Trousers have to be knee-length and there should be no skin-tight outfits, it says.

The local government does not have the legal power to enforce the ban, but previous recommendations it has made, including the banning of heavy make-up and high heels, have been widely obeyed.

Malaysia's 27 million population is dominated by Muslim Malays but also has large ethnic Chinese and Indian minorities who have raised concerns over the rising "Islamisation" of the country.

As a young priest in Poland during World War Two, Pope John Paul II bore witness to the Holocaust and what the Nazis had inflicted upon the Jews. Edit Cerar, a Jewish girl of that time, bears witness today.
Edit Cecar was thirteen years old and on her own in Poland. She had just been released from a German forced labor camp near the end of the war.

CINCINNATI -- More and more teenagers are getting caught "sexting," or sending racy, revealing or nude pictures of themselves on their cell phones. But when that picture gets in the wrong hands, it can be devastating. One local couple says "sexting" cost them their daughter.

Jessie Logan was 18 years old and about to graduate from Sycamore High School when a nude picture she sent to her boyfriend was sent to hundreds of students at schools around the Tri-State.

Last May, Jessie talked to News 5’s Sheree Paolello about how embarrassed and humiliated she was. She said she was being harassed and teased by other students, at home, at school and when she went out.

As she tried to explain what it was like, Jessie broke down crying. "I still get harassed and stuff,” she said. “I just want to make sure no one else will have to go through this same thing."

May 21, 2008: Nude Phone Photos Can Bring Social, Legal Issues For Teens

Jessie was trying to be strong. She wanted to warn other parents and kids. But Jessie's mom, Cynthia Logan, says the teasing turned to torture.

"She was called filthy names, things thrown at her,” said Cynthia. “Every single place she went they knew about that picture, they saw the picture. They knew about the picture! It's abuse. She was abused."

Cynthia says the moment her daughter’s private picture was sent out for everyone to see, things spiraled out of control. Jessie's grades plummeted, she started skipping school and Cynthia says when Jessie would go to school, she would hide in the bathroom to avoid being teased.

Jessie's family and friends knew how much she was struggling to move on but they had no idea how low Jessie had fallen. Two months after Jessie spoke with News 5, she went to the funeral of a boy who had committed suicide. After the funeral, she came home and killed herself.

Eight months later, that horrifying moment was almost unbearable for Cynthia to recall. “And I walked over into her room and saw her hanging. Her cell phone was in the middle of the floor."

Cynthia found her daughter hanging in the closet.

What seemed like high school bullying changed this family forever. The last memory Cynthia has of her petite, blond-haired, blue-eyed, only child is a phone conversation that happened hours before Jessie took her own life.

Cynthia could hardly utter the words. “And she said ‘I love you madre.’ And I said ‘I love you baby and I'll see you soon.’"

Cynthia and her husband, Albert, say they are heartbroken and angry. They feel like something should have been done. They question why the five teenagers who continued to spread Jessie's picture and harass her were never charged.

"Almost eight months later, my daughter is buried in the ground. Are you kidding me? Where were you?" asked Cynthia as if the authorities were right in front of her.

Since Jessie’s death, authorities have started taking action against “sexting.”

Montgomery police have charged one teenage boy who sent a racy video to other students. And Wednesday, the Warren County prosecutor filed misdemeanor charges against two 15-year-old students at Mason High School, for sending out nude pictures over their cell phones.

The school resource officer at Sycamore said he tried to do something about Jessie’s case. He said he confronted the kids who were harassing Jessie and even took Jessie's case to the prosecutor to see if he could press charges. But he said that because Jessie was 18, there were no laws to protect her. He said he'd like to work with the Logans to have the laws changed.

Cynthia says the fault doesn't only lie with the police, but also with the school.

"To have a nude photo being disseminated throughout the school of your child, how would you feel as a parent?” she asked. “Wouldn't you want other parents to know?"

Adrienne James, the superintendent for Sycamore Schools said letters were not sent out to parents, but that the district did address the cell phone problem at a parent’s night school forum.

James also said no action was taken against the students because some attended school in a different district. She also explained that because Jessie took the picture at home and not on school property, there was little the school could do.

No explanation can comfort Cynthia or her family. She believes Jessie took her life to escape the relentless teasing and feels like the people who were supposed to protect Jessie, failed her.

Facebook virus and phishing warning

Last week I got a Facebook message from a good friend of mine. It had some video to click on that was supposed to be funny.

Since it was my old pal from college, I didn't think twice. Beee baaaaa, beee baaaaaa (that is the sound of warning alarm bells going off that I should have heard), you see, the weasels fooled me! Me of all people, who makes a living warning people of scams!

It wasn't my old friend who sent me that. It came from some malicious computer crooks, who somehow hacked into his account and sent out messages with not so pleasant viruses attached. Luckily, the video wouldn't open on my home computer and an hour later I got an email from him saying watch out !

Facebook later sent him the email below. I would love to know what the phishing website designed to "look like Facebook" really looks like:

Hi, We have detected suspicious activity on your Facebook account and have reset your password as a security precaution. It is possible that malicious software was downloaded to your computer or that your password was stolen by a phishing website designed to look like Facebook. Please carefully follow the steps provided:

1. Run Anti-Virus Software: If your computer has been infected with a virus or with malware, you will need to run anti-virus software to remove these harmful programs and keep your information secure. For Microsoft. For Apple.

2. Reset Password: From the Account Settings page, you will need to create a new password. Be sure that you use a complex string of numbers, letters, and punctuation marks that is at least six characters in length. It should also be different from other passwords you use elsewhere on the internet.

3. Secure Email: Make sure that any email addresses associated with your account are secure, since anyone who can read your email can probably also access your Facebook account. If you believe someone has accessed one of your email accounts, you should change its password.

4. Never Click Suspicious Links: It is possible that your friends could unknowingly send spam, viruses, or malware through Facebook if their accounts are infected. Do not click this material and do not run any .exe files on your computer without knowing what they are. Also, be sure to use the most current version of your browser as they contain important security warnings and protection features.

5. Log in at Facebook.com: Make sure that when you access the site, you always log in from a legitimate Facebook page with the facebook.com domain. If something looks or feels suspicious, go directly to www.facebook.com to log in.

News of the second film first broke in early 2005, suggesting that it would be written by Simon McBurney, although in December 2005, Atkinson stated that the screenplay was being written by himself and long-time collaborator Richard Curtis.[2] The screenplay was finally confirmed to have been written by Robin Driscoll, Simon McBurney and Hamish McColl. Atkinson also said that Mr. Bean's Holiday will most likely be the last Mr. Bean story he appears in.[3] He was also quoted as saying "Never say never" but went on to add that it was highly unlikely he would appear as Mr. Bean again. Unlike the 1997 Mel Smith film, Mr Bean's Holiday was directed by Steve Bendelack.[5] The film began shooting on 15 May 2006.[6]
It was the official film for Red Nose Day 2007, with money from the film going towards the charity Comic Relief.[7] Prior to the film's release, a new and exclusive Mr. Bean sketch was broadcast on the Comic Relief telethon on BBC One on 16 March 2007. The movie's official premiere took place at Leicester Square's Odeon in London on Sunday, 25 March, and helped to raise money for both Comic Relief and the Oxford Children's Hospital Appeal charity.

The film opens with Mr. Beanhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Bean#Mr._Bean (Rowan Atkinson) attending raffle in June. His number is 616; the winning number is 919 - frustrated that he lost, he throws the ticket onto a toy train. Seeing the ticket upside down reading 919, he grabs the ticket and yells out that he won in his mumbling deep voice. The prize is a holiday involving a train journey to Cannes, a Sony video camera, and €200. Following a misunderstanding involving a taxi at the Gare du Nord railway station in Paris, Bean is forced to make his way unorthodoxly towards the Gare de Lyon to board his next train towards Cannes. As he misses the train and the next one won't leave for another hour, he has time to sample French seafood at Le Train Bleu restaurant. He accidentally orders oysters and langoustine, which he cannot bring himself to eat. He surreptitiously pours the oysters into a nearby lady's handbag, and eats the whole langoustine without taking off the shell in front of everybody, However in the episode Mr.Bean in room 426 he is seen eating a lot oysters.

Back on the platform, Bean asks a man, who happens to be a Cannes Film Festival jury member and Russian movie critic Emil Dachevsky (Karel Roden), to use his camcorder to film his walking onto the train. By the time they are done, the TGV is about to leave. Although Bean manages to get onto the train, the doors close before Dachevsky can get on. Dachevsky's son, Stepan (Max Baldry) is therefore left on board by himself. Bean attempts to befriend Stepan, with the result that when the boy slaps him in the face and when he gets off at the next station, Bean gets off too and accidentally misses the train, along with his bag aboard. The train that Stepan's father has boarded does not stop at the station, and he holds up a mobile number, but with the last two digits obscured. Their efforts at calling the number prove fruitless. They board the next train, but since Bean has left his ticket on the station public telephone, the duo are soon forced to leave the train.

Attempts at busking by miming to Puccini's O mio babbino caro (sung by Rita Streich) and other music prove successful, and Bean buys them a bus ticket to Cannes. Bean loses his ticket by getting the ticket stuck on a chicken's foot. Mr. Bean then steals a nearby bicycle and follows the chicken which has been placed onto a Peugeot 504 pickup and ends up at a chicken pen. On his return, he finds that the bicycle has been run over by a German WWII Sturmgeschütz III assault gun, but the camera is still intact. Mr. Bean starts walking, and falls asleep exhausted. He wakes up on what appears to be a quaint French village, but is actually a film set for a yoghurt advertisement, set during World War II (this is where the tank was heading). Bean ends up as an extra, playing the role of a German soldier in the advertisement, directed by Carson Clay (Willem Dafoe). He inadvertently blows up the set, and is seen walking down from a hillside with smoke billowing out of the villa while being passed by an ambulance heading up the hill.

Bean then tries to hitch-hike again; a yellow Mini identical to his own picks him up, driven by actress Sabine (Emma de Caunes) that Bean encountered both at the commercial filming and previously, who offers him a lift to Cannes. She is on her way to the 59th Cannes Film Festival where Carson Clay's film in which she makes her debut is going to be presented. When they stop at a service station, Bean finds Stepan in a café. Sabine agrees to take him with them.

Bean and the boy now attempt, again in vain, to call Dachevsky with Sabine's phone. When Sabine falls asleep, Bean then drives the car himself, but he keeps falling asleep. After doing dangerous and painful things to himself to stay awake, Bean and the other two finally make it to Cannes.

When Sabine goes into a petrol station to change for the premiere, she sees a newsflash, wherein the police have made up a story about Mr. Bean kidnapping Stepan and Sabine being his accomplice. However, since she does not want to miss the premiere, she is reluctant to go to the police to clear up the "misunderstanding". They therefore plan to get into Cannes without being identified. Stepan dresses up as Sabine's daughter, while Mr. Bean dresses up as Sabine's mother. They manage to get through the search and Sabine arrives at the premiere on time.

After sneaking into the premiere, Bean is disappointed to see that Sabine's role has been (rather poorly) cut from the film (Carson Clay is seen nodding at the woman beside him at this point, implying that he cut the scene as a favour to his jealous wife), and ends up plugging in his video camera to the projector, where his video diary is unexpectedly played out. However, the strange tale it tells fits director Clay's narration well (in a bizarre way), so that the director, Sabine, and Bean all receive standing ovations. Stepan is finally reunited with his father (after he accuses Bean of kidnapping his son and attempts to fight him).

After the screening, Bean leaves the building and goes to the beach, encountering there many of the other characters. The film then ends with Bean and all the other characters of the film miming a large French musical finale, singing the famous song by Charles Trenet, "La Mer" (Beyond the Sea). After the credits Bean writes with his foot Fin ("End") in the sand, using the last of his camera battery.
