AC's Revel exits bankruptcy court

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Just over a year after it opened, Atlantic City's newest casino has gone into bankruptcy and gotten out of it, ready to start again.

Revel formally completed a Chapter 11 restructuring Tuesday that saw it wipe away $1.2 billion of its $1.5 billion in debt, in return for granting lenders an 82 percent ownership stake.

The struggling-yet-sleek $2.4 billion casino-hotel, whose glass exterior topped by a white ball has become an indelible image at the northern end of Atlantic City's Boardwalk, opened in April 2012 with hopes as high as its 47-story pinnacle.

Universal Orlando raises ticket prices

The price increase, up from $89, went into effect this past weekend.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Utah Gov. Gary Herbert says his state does a better job than federal managers and has a bigger stake than the bureaucrats in protecting the natural resources and rugged beauty that drives Utah's outdoor recreation and tourism industry.

Herbert, the chairman of the Western Governors' Association, was the lone witness to testify in Washington on Tuesday before a congressional subcommittee examining the role of state and federal governments in managing national parks, forests and public rangelands.

The Republican governor says no one understands state challenges and demographics better than the people who reside and govern there.

Pope expresses solidarity with Oklahoma tornado survivors

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis has expressed his “closeness to the families of all who died in the Oklahoma tornado,” with special concern for “those who lost young children.”

The pope posted a Twitter message to the survivors Tuesday, and followed up with a telegram to the archbishop of Oklahoma City, Paul S. Coakley.

The deadly tornado struck a suburb of Oklahoma City on Monday, destroying homes and an elementary school, and many of the victims were children.

In the telegram, Francis said he remains “conscious of the tragic loss of life and the immensity of the work of rebuilding that lies ahead.” The pontiff conveyed to the community “assurance of his solidarity and closeness in prayer.”

Appeals court won't block Yellowstone bison hazing

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — A federal appeals court denied a request to block the use of a helicopter to haze wild bison as officials in southwestern Montana wrapped up the annual drive of the animals back into Yellowstone National Park.

A three-judge panel from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday denied the injunction request by the Alliance for the Wild Rockies.

Riverboats to resume 7-night cruises in Northwest

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The company that resumed riverboat cruises on the Mississippi River a year ago said Tuesday that it will offer seven-night trips starting next year on the Columbia and Snake rivers in Oregon and Washington.

It will be the first time the cruises have been offered since 2008, when the previous operator, Majestic America, ceased operations.

Pa. board OKs charges to use new resort casino

FARMINGTON, Pa. (AP) — The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has approved charges that non-resort guests must pay to gamble at a soon-to-open casino at a southwestern Pennsylvania resort.

Under the plan approved Monday, customers must spend $10 at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort to gain one-time entry into the Lady Luck Casino, scheduled to open in July.

NH officials predict visitor and spending increase

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire tourism officials are predicting an increase in visitors and spending this Memorial Day weekend, though the outlook is not as optimistic as it was last year.

Citing a report by the Institute for New Hampshire Studies, tourism officials say they expect more than a half million visitors from out of state during the holiday weekend — a 1 percent increase over last year.

2 downtown museums lowering rates for LR Riverfest

The Clinton Presidential Center and the Museum of Discovery are offering $5 admission during operating hours for the festival over the Memorial Day weekend.

The Clinton Center is to be open Friday through May 27, which is Memorial Day.

Family reunites at Moore church, prepares to search for missing relatives

MOORE — The hugs and the tears conveyed a message all too familiar for the Lambert family Monday.

Cecilia Lambert, with tears in her eyes, hopped out of her husband's pickup and rushed to hug her son, Joseph Lambert, as the family reunited in the parking lot of First Baptist Church of Moore.

Lambert family members said they live in several Moore housing additions and experienced the tornado outbreak of May 3, 1999, and another on May 8, 2003.

Cecilia Lambert said she couldn't believe their city had been struck yet a third time by a deadly tornado, wreaking havoc through the city.

“I think I'm ready to move,” she said.

Joseph Lambert, 23, said he left his Oklahoma City job when he found out the tornado was headed for the Moore area.

Oklahoma Baptists prepare mobile kitchen site in Moore; other houses of worship respond to disaster

MOORE — Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief teams were headed to Moore late Monday as search and rescue efforts continued in the neighborhoods affected by a deadly tornado.

Sam Porter, disaster relief director for the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma, stood in the parking lot of First Baptist Church of Moore, 301 NE 27, coordinating relief efforts that will include a mobile kitchen and feeding unit set up at the church.

Porter said volunteers would begin preparing meals for the Salvation Army and Red Cross to distribute Tuesday, but he was unsure how many people they would feed.

“We may need 20,000 meals a day.

Montana man dies in Yosemite climbing accident

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a Montana man has died in a rock climbing accident as he tried to climb to the top of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park.

A Yosemite park spokeswoman says 38-year-old Mason Robison was killed after a rock dislodged and severed his rope as he and a partner were about 2,300 feet above the Yosemite Valley floor.

Spokeswoman Kari Cobb says the two climbers were about 600 feet from the summit around 9:15 a.m.

Artist INC Live to offer business skills to artists

Calling all artists. An organization established to give artists business skills to succeed will be coming to Oklahoma in the fall.

Artist INC Live Oklahoma City is giving 25 Oklahoma artists the opportunity to hone their business skills and turn their passion for art into a successful business.

“Artist INC is designed for artists of all disciplines, including visual art, dance, music, theater, writing, performance and more,” said Kelsey Karper, associate director of the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition.

According to its website, Artist INC was founded in Kansas City in 2009 to connect artists with resources, tools and opportunities necessary to develop their entrepreneurial skills.

“Artist INC Live helps artists to establish strategic plans, connect with resources for their careers, build peer networks and have financially sustainable careers,” Karper said.

The Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition is collaborating with the Norman Arts Council, the City of Oklahoma City Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs, Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center and Oklahoma Film and Music Office.

“Partnerships like these make Oklahoma arts really strong,” said Erinn Gavaghan the executive director of the Norman Arts Council.

Oklahoma City Ultimate Frisbee seeks summer players

It may seem impossible to combine three sports into one and play them at the same time, but one organization is giving players that opportunity this summer.

Oklahoma City Ultimate, an organization founded in part from OU's Ultimate Frisbee team, is starting its third annual Ultimate Summer League from June 6 to July 25 placing Ultimate Frisbee front and center.

“Ultimate Frisbee is similar to football, basketball and soccer is how I explain it to people,” said Taylor Stamps, an Oklahoma City Ultimate board member.

“Anyone can show up and anyone can play,” Stamps said.

Just bring cleats and bring water, he advised.

There is a lot worth celebrating as Youth Services of Oklahoma County commemorates its 40th anniversary this year.

The nonprofit organization led by Debbie Forshee, president and CEO of Youth Services for Oklahoma County, has more than 50 employees, five separate programs and a number of youth who receive services at any given time throughout the week.

Forshee started this job after working for a number of years in politics.
