Golfers are notorious for dropping thousands of dollars on swing coaches to lower their scores, but a new camcorder claims to render those costly lessons unnecessary by making you the coach. According to DVICE, the V-Swing is a hands-free camcorder that attaches to a golf bag and records your swing as close as six feet from the tee. The $350 device has a wide-angle lens mounted on a long, adjustable neck. You can watch your swing in full-speed, slow-motion or even frame-by-frame on the V-Swing’s 3.5-inch screen. Once golfers are done at the course or range, they can review their wobbly swing mechanics with the help of the included V1 motion-analysis software, which lets users upload their videos to the Web for critique by community golf pros.

Sure, you can’t share a beer at the clubhouse with the V-Swing, but it’s cheaper than a human coach, and, best of all, it doesn’t berate you when you slice into the water hazard for the third consecutive time. [From: DVICE and V-Swing]

StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty isn’t just traditional, it’s a tradition.

If any other company but Blizzard had simply put new graphics over the same old interface, it would have resulted in an interesting novelty at best. But within moments of putting my hands on StarCraft 2 during the open beta, it was clear this was no mere novelty. It’s been more than a decade since I played the original, but the sequel feels both instantly fresh and familiar. It’s not a game that’ll be forgotten in the rush of the coming months’ releases. It feels timeless.

A glance at the T-Mobile Vairy Touch and you’ll be forgiven for thinking that it’s a HTC Touch. The good news is that this phone will only set you back about $75. While the device might physically look like a HTC Touch, the user interface is completely different. In terms of hardware, the touchscreen is reportedly quite good, albeit it takes quite a bit of pressure to activate, which is often a common problem with cheaper resistive displays. Would you pick one of these over a HTC device

U.S. Government Legalizes iPhone Jailbreaking

If you jailbreak your iPhone in a country where jailbreaking is legal, can it really be called jailbreaking That’s what American iPhone users will soon have to ask themselves, thanks to a new set of governmental rules approved by the Library of Congress. As the AP reports, the Library has just legalized code-breaking on Apple’s smartphone, meaning users can now download non-Apple approved apps with a absolutely clear conscience. The new ruling comes as an exemption to a 1988 federal law that bans consumers from working around technical barriers that companies impose to prevent unauthorized use of their products. The Library of Congress, which manages the U.S. Copyright Office, reviews its list of exemptions each three years, and, this go-round, finally decided to allow parole to the iPhone.

Apple has become notorious for the tight, puritanical approach it has taken in governing the App Store, and we’re pretty sure that the company won’t take too kindly to any government-sanctioned infringement upon that hegemony. Realistically, however, these new rules are probably more ceremonial than anything else. People have been emancipating their iPhones for years now, so it’s unlikely that any newfound legality will encourage a new wave of do-gooders to shed their phones’ digital shackles. Symbolically, though, the Library’s decision tacitly confirms what we’ve all known for a while now; the smartphone app market has become bigger than any one company, and should function freely, without the threat of legal action hanging over it. ‘EverQuest 2 Extended’ bringing free-to-play to EQ2

SOE has announced a free-to-play version of EverQuest 2, called EverQuest 2 Extended. Yes, a free-to-play version. Rather than switching its business model as some MMOs have, SOE is actually going to operate Extended in parallel with the existing, subscription-based version of EverQuest 2.

Extended uses a smaller web-based application instead of EQ2’s full download, and offers both free and optional paid membership content, as well as the option to purchase equipment. It includes access to all the game zones available in the “real” game, including those added in expansions up to “Shadow Odyssey“. In other words, everything but the stuff added in “Sentinel’s Fate.” Find all the confusing details about the membership options after the break, or check the FAQ.

EverQuest 2 Extended is expected to launch in beta form “on or around August 17, 2010.” Along with it, UI improvements will be released for the current version of EQ2.

The unfortunately titled ‘You Gotta See This!’ might be the coolest mobile photography app we’ve witnessed this year. The iPhone 4-only app uses the phone’s gyroscope to find the camera’s position and automatically snaps photos as you move the camera. The entry level messaging phone boasts GPRS/GSM/EDGE connection, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, 2.4-inch display, 2-megapixel camera, 14MB memory expandable up to 4GB via microSD, MusicID and MEdiaNet services all packed into a 4 2 0.66-inch body weighing 3.81 ounces. Pretty appealing to text-messagers for its price if lime green is their color.
