Best Buy Giving Away Free Invisible Shields For iPhone 4 Customers

Going along with Apple’s scheme of free bumpers and other approved third party cases, it seems Best Buy are now offering free Invisible shields for unhappy iPhone 4 customers.

What’s more it’s for any iPhone 4 owner, apparently you don’t even have had to purchase your iPhone 4 in Best Buy at all!

Now the Invisible Shield only covers the antenna portion of the iPhone 4, and doesn’t do much to protect your device, but it does provide a solution to the antenna issue.

Even better is Best Buy will even install the shield for you, free of charge. Normally these Invisible Shields cost $9.99, but my guess is Best Buy are doing this as a loss leader, to get you into the store in the hopes that you buy some other accessories.

White iPhone 4 Delayed Due To Light Leakages?

Many of you were disappointed when Apple delayed the white iPhone 4 until later this year, and we had a theory that the reason it was delayed is because Apple couldn’t make enough of the glass casings fast enough.

Well now there’s a new theory as to why it’s delayed.

Scott Moritz of TheStreet reports that the white iPhone 4 is delayed due to backlight leaking out from the casing.

Apparently, the back light from the iPhone display screen is leaking out around the edges of the glass and seeping through the back of the white phone, according to a person familiar with the manufacturing process.

Because White is naturally a lighter and lower opacity that black, this is the reason for the issue. The glass construction makes it even harder to simply fill in the gaps where the light is leaking, compared to regular metal and plastic cases.

Now this could be a load of rubbish, or it could be true, maybe this is the reason the white iPhone 4 is delayed? Or maybe it’s because of the manufacturing issues? Or it could be both

Free iPhone 4 Bumpers Beginning To Arrive

The free bumpers that Apple promised us are now beginning to arrive in the hands of eager customers. They begun shipping at the beginning of the week, but so far the arrivals appear to be limited to UK customers so far.

But i’m sure customers in other countries who’ve received shipping notices, can expect theres to arrive any day now.

From those that have arrived to date, it appears that they come in the standard iPhone Bumper case and packaging. Users who have ordered third party cases however are yet to receive anything, for now it just appears to be Apple’s bumpers.

There is a lengthy delay of nearly a month for most customers, but then again, this could change as many customers received shipping notices of their bumpers earlier this week, when the expected shipping date wasn’t for the next couple of weeks.

iPhone 4 CAD Drawings Are Pretty Impressive

Now this isn’t that exciting, but a while back Apple uploaded some CAD files for manufactures and designers who were interested in making cases for the iPhone 4. The drawings gave accurate dimensions and specifications for the iPhone 4 design and body.

Now they were usable, but Core77 has gone one step further and improved on these drawings and made them much more user friendly. They are now overlay-ed on actual photos of the iPhone 4 which make it much easier to make sense of all together.

Use iPhone 4 LED Flash As A Flashlight

iPhone iOS 4.1 Beta 2 Now Released

Apple has released the second beta edition of iOs 4.1 to developers yesterday. The first beta was released a couple of weeks ago and this was the first time that we saw some of the new features being introduced into the iPhone OS.

These new features include the Game Center that Steve Jobs introduced at the iOS press event, Flash/Camera buttons reposition themselves in landscape, favorites in the iPhone app can be added as a voice or facetime. You can now also turn off spell check in your settings.

Aside from these, there only seems to be some minor bug fixes coming along in this update as well.

We were told that a future software update would address the proximity sensor issues that users are reporting, but as of yet there doesn’t seem to be any sign of this fix in the latest release.

Buy iPhone 4 Unlocked In Ireland From €599

I brought you the news earlier that Canada will have the option to buy the iPhone 4 unlocked and sim-free for quite a high price.

Well now in Ireland you will also have the option to buy the iPhone 4 unlocked, however if you thought the Canadian iPhone 4 was expensive unlocked, it’s even a little bit more expensive again in Ireland.

It looks like they were looking to round off the numbers a little here

The 16GB iPhone 4 without contract will be sold for €599 and the 32GB model will cost €699 .

The iPhone 4 is going on sale here on July 30th, along with 16 other countries and you can be sure I won’t be rushing down to my local store to grab an unlocked version of this, unless someones willing to donate me 600 quid!

The thing is here in Ireland we actually have a decent choice of carriers. Out of the 4 carriers, 3 of them will be offerring the iPhone 4….. Vodafone, O2 and 3

iPhone 4 Unlocked In Canada From $659

While those in the US are still stuck with at&t for now, Canada who already have the iPhone available on multiple carriers, now get the choice to buy it unlocked as well.

However its not cheap, $659 for 16GB, $779 for 32GB, and $549 for the 8GB iPhone 3GS.

And that’s all Canadian dollars,

AT&T To Fix iPhone 4 Upload Speeds Over Next Few Weeks

A couple of weeks ago reports came in that suggested AT&T could possible be restricting upload speeds on the iPhone 4 so as not to crash it’s network. Thankfully this turned out to be wrong, and instead it was an issue with some Alcatel Software bug and AT&T said they would get onto it.

Well today Reuters reports that AT&T are planning on rolling out the software update to their networks over the next 2-3 weeks to solve the issues users have been having.

The No. 2 U.S. mobile operator said on Monday it had begun rolling out an Alcatel-Lucent software patch that would restore uplink speeds for its high-speed data services that depend on so-called HSUPA technology.

“This patch will be deployed on a phased basis over the next two to three weeks,” AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel said.

AT&T, the exclusive U.S. provider for iPhone, said the iPhone 4, the latest Apple device, was the only smartphone that runs on its HSUPA network.

So any users having issues with your upload speeds, hopefully they should be resolved within the next couple of weeks.

Proximity Sensor Issues Now Causing Trouble For The iPhone 4

We’ve just about got over all the iPhone 4 antenna issues for the moment anyway, (even if they haven’t been fixed) but now another culprit is rearing his head.

Users on Apple’s Discussion boards are getting frustrated by issues with the proximity sensor on the iPhone 4. This sensor can tell when you have the phone up against your ear and it blacks out the display to prevent unnecessary battery usage and it also prevents you from accidentally touching controls on the screen.

However, ever since the iPhone 4′s debut back in June, several users were reporting problems with them. Several users have reported that they kept accidentally ending calls with their cheek and putting people on hold etc…

This thread on the Apple discussion board is currently the most viewed one and is several pages long, it’s attracting an awful lot of attention.

A faulty proximity sensor is just about the worst thing to happen for a touchscreen device as it really screws things up when your taking calls. It’s an essential piece of kit and any issues with it are a right pain. However, more than likely this is just a software glitch, as Steve Jobs said at his recent press conference that an update was in the works to deal with this issue.

Here’s a selection of issues people are having

“3 cheek dials today. Not a happy customer,” wrote user “MacSince85.”

“Was having issues with sensor, but went beyond that. After answering and talking for 15 minutes – somehow the phone managed to drill down to the ringtone menu and started playing ringtones in my ear while I was on the phone,” reported user “wgaller.”

User “dbk9999″ wrote: “My 3rd [iPhone 4] is FAR worse with the sensor issue than my first two (which I returned for different problems). In addition, while a lot of people proclaim it is because the screen comes on when it shouldn’t, I’ve had 7 cut offs of calls and 1 activation of mute without the screen coming on.”

So hurry up Apple, get that software patch out quick, or you could have some more unhappy customers.

iPhone 4 Coming To 17 More Countries This Friday

With the White iPhone 4 delayed until the later this year, it seems Apple are wasting no time in rolling out the black iPhone 4 to a further 17 countries this Friday, as previously announced by Steve Jobs at their press conference. The iPhone 4 was originally meant to be released to 18 more countries, but it seems that South Korea will have to wait a bit longer due to delays in government approval.

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland can all expect the iPhone 4 to land on Friday 30th.
